Kiki and his staff were amazing to accommodate a Celebration of Life luncheon held after my mothers interment at Riverside National Cemetery. It was held on the back patio , the bar and snack bar was available as well as the food we had purchased to be served at the venue. It was a little hot outside but there were some nice breezes and the views of the golfcourse were gorgeous! Tee time $103 for 2 at 11:00 am. Pros: nice bar area and range available. Lots of parking and drinks are affordable. Cons: Very dry grass and the whole golf coarse needs tlc. For $50+ fees per person I would assume the coarse was more taken care off. We played alot of areas that had so much dry dirt and dead grass. I was surprised how much grass was dead throughout. I loved the clubhouse and the TVs the snack bar area etc. Overall I think we need to focus on the up keep. Other then that I 4 stars for the bar tender. The employees like Doc very sweet and kind. He greeted us and highly recommended the bloody Mary's at the bar. Also no cart girls at this location. read more

This is not a fancy course by any means and the conditions, while not disappointing, are in accordance with the (low) price for a tee time. But the course itself has good bones and is long and fairly challenging. It's an old school experience through and through, with a small, slightly threadbare pro shop and facilities. It reminds me in so many ways of the municipal courses I grew up playing in the late 90s & early 2000s. Friendly people on staff, reasonable rates, characterful experiences, family friendly atmosphere and just an overall sense of a little, honest golf course where anybody can go out and spend a few hours chasing the ball. For $33 you can't go wrong, give it a try. read more

I've played here 2 times, once a friend brought us and then for their American Legion fundraiser tournament. Both times were great. The course, staff and layout did not disappoint. The greens roll good and the course overall is in good shape. Will definitely be coming back. Also the grilled ham and cheese hit the spot. read more

This was my second visit to the General Old Golf Course. During my previous visit, I was disappointed with the level of customer service we experienced, but I decided to give it another try in hopes of a better experience. As combat veterans, we find golf to be a therapeutic outlet, and your course has consistently been a welcoming and veteran-friendly environment -- something we deeply value. Unfortunately, our experience today (Friday, August 8, 2025) did not live up to the standard we've come to expect. We had two times scheduled, one for 6:00a.m. & the second for 6:08a.m. We had a group of 5 in total, due to last-minute cancellations. According to the marshal who checked us in, playing together wouldn't be a problem. However, throughout our round, we were approached multiple times by the marshal telling us we were playing too slowly. In an effort to be respectful of pace-of-play expectations, our group was split up, allowing two players to move ahead. We were also informed by the marshal that there were over 100 people waiting in the clubhouse behind us; however, we had not observed any groups directly following us on the course. We take pride in being courteous players who respect the course and other golfers, and we always aim to ensure our presence is a positive one. That's why the repeated interruptions today left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed, ultimately leading us to end our round early - with no intention on returning in the future. We hope this message serves as constructive feedback and can be used as a learning opportunity for your staff to improve how they interact with and support all guests -- especially those who have proudly served. read more

This place was horrible, and I will never ever ever ever ever go back. They need to plant some grass, most of the course is dirt, and the sand traps are mud, they need to start T times when it's light out instead of completely pitch black since they have zero lights anywhere. They scheduled six groups before the break of dawn so there's a backup to begin with and sorry to say the group in front of us was blasting music with a lot of foul language and derogatory comments, which just set the tone for a very bad session. read more

Worst golf course I've ever played. The starter was rude; they overbooked, it took 5.5 hours to get through 18 holes. The course is overpriced, the tee boxes are atrocious, the fairways are horrible, and the greens are okay. I wouldn't recommend this course to my worst enemy. I almost asked for a refund. Is General Old a five-star golf course? No, but it is five-star in terms of walkability. Why? It's mostly flat. So I didn't have to push or pull my cart up any steep grades. As an added plus, the course was in great shape on November 23. The fairways were green, and the greens were fair. The greens were hard and fairly fast. We played with a pair of brothers who were riding in a cart. On the second hole, we heard rifle shots from the nearby cemetery, which prompted one of the brothers to say, "Our parents are buried over there." The proximity to March Air Force base leads me to believe that General Old may have been part of the base at one time in the past. Many of the holes have dedication plaques honoring veterans. (See my pic.) One criticism that I have of the course is allowing groups of five. We had a group of five ahead of us and another group of five behind us. Play was therefore pretty slow. I was not accustomed to walking a full 18 hole regulation course. I walk executive courses (like Colton GC and Birch Hills GC), but never a longer course like General Old. I only agreed to walk this one because people were saying it was a fairly flat course. I recommend General Old. The practice areas are also quite spacious and useful. The grass range is long and wide. The chipping area has three well-spaced holes, enough for shots from as far back as 30-40 yards. The practice putting green has many holes and many different slopes. read more

Updated review (last one was 10mo ago): DO NOT COME HERE ON A WEEKEND The tee time management/ pace of play at this course is probably the WORST I have ever been to. You WILL have a 5 1/2 hr round MINIMUM if you come on a weekend, I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. Not to mention that this is an overpriced goat track, you'll find better grass at your local dog park than the fairways here. Greens are actually respectable right now. Runs on the slow end but they're in decent condition. If your goal for your golfing day is primarily to get piss drunk with your buddies, this is the course for you. Otherwise, save your sanity and pay the extra $10 to go to literally any other course in the IE. read more

There are other public golf courses nearby that are worth your time and money! The staff here are rude and very unprofessional. Even if they fix the greens, you would still have to deal with the staff. To be completely honest, customer service and taking care of the course are not a priority here. I am new to golf and he helped me out a lot with club selection and not just trying to sell me the most expensive thing but actually finding me clubs and balls to fit my game. To preface this review, I usually am not one to leave a bad review even if my experience is sub par. This place has killed my love for the sport. I, like most people, showed up early for my tee time. Pulling up to the tee box, there was a line of around 10-15 people. A little confused I asked the starter what the issue was, he said they were behind. 30 minutes past my booked tee time a group of 10 showed up (late for their tee time) and teed off before us. I was at this golf course for over 6 hours. And the excuse for this group was that they are "third generation" and big wigs in the "asphalt business". I didn't really understand how that warrants cutting a line of people who showed up on time. They very obviously had some friends working at this course because they drove on the tee box, left trash everywhere, and just played incredibly slow. It's even more disappointing, because when I went into the pro shop to inquire or maybe just pay the twig ight time or something. Said there was "nothing they could do". Grounds aren't too bad, going on a weekday might be okay. I would avoid the weekends. This course just about made me lose my love for the sport. read more

Great layout with the worst groundskeeper. Way too many gopher holes but more than that there is no attention to detail from the grounds crew. Examples; most players play the whites, but the groundskeeper will have sprinklers on that box during heavy play. It's just a shame the leadership at the course doesn't seem to care which is starting to reflect in the decline of players over the last 6 months. Ladies Social Group golfing on Wednesday afternoon is a wonderful program. Mark Hampton and his coaches have created a stress free environment for golfers of all skill levels to have a good time, meet people and improve your game. Tonight I golfed with my daughter and granddaughter. Last week they swung a golf club for the first time. Tonight they played their first round and had a great time. Doc, one of the coaches helped them with lessons both weeks and followed us around the course giving helpful tips to improve all of our games. I highly recommend this program for any ladies interested in learning or improving their golf game. I personally have improved and also made some wonderful friends in the process. I showed up one week, last summer, knowing no one, but wanting something positive to do. I am GLAD I made that choice and encourage you to do that too. read more

I stopped by here last Saturday around 3pm to get some practice in and fully expected the place to be packed. I pulled in to the parking lot and found it less than half full. I went to the proshop to buy a large bucket of balls for $12. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and pointed me to the driving range. The range was almost completely empty except for two others. It's nice that the range is grass but it's not in great shape but you can find decent spots here and there. The bucket of balls were 90% brand new and about 10% worn out balls. I used the worn out balls for warm up and chip shots the rest for full shots. They also have a great chipping area with bunker and putting green. Both are in very good shape. I found the patrons there to be very friendly and courteous. There was a loud, boisterous group in the bar area outside that made for some colorful commentary but they were having a good time and everyone was super chill. I would recommend this place if you're looking to get some practice in. I didn't have time to play the course so no comment on that. Maybe next time I'm in the area. read more

Came back to Gens after exploring courses with grass and to ma surprise Gens went legit! The fairways were green and the greens rolled pure! It's possible the green was due to the recent rain we got? They have never really had rough, more like a burrowing animal playground. That hasn't changed much but I can't complain as this course was in the best shape I've ever seen it in! I hesitate to post this because now every tee shirt wearing hack in the IE will flock to the course for the every 3 minute tee times offered. Ma one compliant remains is the starter encouraging clowns to tee off while the group in front is clearly in range ! He may be the author behind the tree minute tee times??? Over all five stars to the General! Kiki and the grounds crew have done a good job getting this property in shape ! read more
