Looking to remodel our powder room and came to General Plumbing soon after it opened on a Saturday morning. We were literally the only people in the store, yet the employees were so caught up with themselves that no one seemed interested to help. Seems like a business where you'd want to help consumers! Finally did get someone who came to try to help, but the suggestions we were getting just made no sense (i.e. we told him our bathroom was painted a dark navy with wainscoting and he suggested a sink with a navy blue cabinets). read more

Excellent help at the GPS counter for amateur plumbers like me. This review is only for the counter guys in back, I have never bought any of the really fancy stuff sold in the showroom out front. Over the years the counter has set me up with faucets, faucet stems and handles to keep the old house functional. I'm clearly not a pro but they've never held that against me. They've even reminded me about little items that I didn't know I needed - once it was a special grease - and generally made sure I had a fighting chance LOL. Another time my furnace went a little screwy and I took the PSEG guy's recommendations to GPS .. where they had a good laugh and sent me on my way without taking a penny. So yeah, I'm a fan. (I was considering 3 stars, but my husband became so agitated when I told him about my experience that I'm going w/ 2. This review is only for the custom cabinet side of the business.) This place has very nice bathroom cabinets, hardware, lighting, tubs and sinks, and it's very conveniently located by the train station. But I would never buy anything from them, at least in the custom cabinetry department. I went in to shop for a custom vanity. The salesguy greeted me warmly and invited me to sit down at his desk. This was lovely and unexpected, because I did not have an appointment. The salesguy asked me what I was looking for and I began to reply but his phone started ringing. He immediately picked up. And proceeded to talk on the phone for almost 10 minutes. I think everyone would agree these days how rude it is to answer your cell phone in the middle of a conversation with someone else. I would have to assume that this rule of etiquette also applies to landlines but I'm no etiquette expert. All I know is that sitting at this guy's desk unwillingly eavesdropping on his loud and lengthy telephone banter made me feel incredibly awkward and disrespected. After he hung up, the salesguy did a generally fine job helping me design a vanity that I actually liked. Which would have been great, except the entire time we were working together, I kept feeling as if I was being tested. Like every question was orchestrated to determine whether I was a real customer, a waste of time, or maybe even a competitor sent to spy on him. The whole experience was getting more and more weird and off-putting. After the salesguy drew up the vanity design on his computer, I asked if I could take his drawing with me. Maybe this is a terrible question to ask a bathroom cabinet salesguy, I wouldn't know, but he bursts out "NO" and starts laughing like I'm some kind of idiot. Then, he takes out a pencil and writes up the cost including tax and delivery and slides it across the desk at me. He says, "Will you be placing the order for this cabinet today?" I seriously felt like I'd just stepped into a scene from the movie Glengarry Glenn Ross. I wanted to tell him, "ABC, Always Be Closing!" They say that people like to shop, but they don't like to be sold. I fit so squarely into that category that even though I like the cabinet and probably would have bought it, I will simply not give this dude the satisfaction. read more

If you think going to a real plumbing store is the answer, think again. Not only was the product defective, the service was worse!! I wish I had read some of these reviews before I went into the store. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!!!! I bought what I thought was a high quality "in stock" floor drain for a bathroom renovation. When I got the part back to the plumber, the cast iron was cracked. When I tried to return the part ($117), I was told to get a formal letter from Kohler at the store. When I contacted Kohler, they told me they could not send a letter and would send a replacement part for the broken piece. I always hear from plumbing professionals to go to the specialty stores for higher quality parts. Go to Home Depot. At least they will take the product back and not WASTE YOUR TIME!!!! read more

I would consider the reviews for this location prior to visiting. I have experienced what others would describe as unfriendly and not generally helpful staff on the showroom side even after informing them I have an appointment. I dealt with Lisa and recommend not doing so. I tried to be explicitly clear about every aspect of our order, but had to keep on top of her because she would make assumptions about what she thought I wanted or would work best. I found it very difficult to communicate with her because she would reference names of items incorrectly when I was looking at the pamphlet and when I sought to clarify she was frazzled and rude with clarifications. I hope management takes my experience into consideration and can work with their staff on making this a more pleasant and productive experience for staff. I am sure its easy to dismiss customer's reviews as they may not understand such and such aspect of our business but that is truly not the case here. read more

I would highly recommend General Plumbing Supply for anyone looking to complete a small plumbing task to a large scale remodel. The staff are beyond helpful, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. My wife and I just finished renovating our master bathroom and could've have done it without the help of Melissa and all her expertise in design as well as the rest of the staff. General Plumbing Supply has the most beautiful fixtures and finishes that you won't find anywhere else and Melissa was right there the whole time helping us choose them to go with our theme .... classic, timeless and elegant. Should have read the yelp reviews first! I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon to purchase a bathroom vanity. There was only one other person in the store and he was chatting casually with one of the employees. Three women were in front and there was no greeting. I looked at the vanitys on display (small selection) and was making my way to relook at them when I was asked if I needed help. The two women who apparently help with bathroom vanities were busy (one on the phone and the other chatting). No indication of when someone would be able help or really, no interest in helping. My general contractor referred me to GPS for plumbing supplies for my bathroom renovation. I was warmly welcomed by Elisabeth who spent a great deal of time with me in selecting all of the fixtures and vanity for my bathroom. Design is not my strong point, and she met with me several times and was extremely generous with her time until I was absolutely satisfied with my choices. Elisabeth went above and beyond to listen to what I was trying to achieve, and she gave me so many helpful suggestions. She never pressured me once and helped me to make some minor changes to help me stay within my budget. In the end, I decided I had to had the more expensive choices. She asked her boss if they could offer me a discount. I was completely so pleasantly surprised that they gave me a discount that not only brought me within my budget, but also gave me all of the items I loved. Everything came in quickly and was delivered promptly and in excellent condition. I also met with and spoke on the phone with several other sales members - everyone was courteous and extremely helpful. I changed my mind on a few accessories and experienced the same courtesy and help in making returns and exchanges. I will be doing two more bathrooms and absolutely will not go anywhere else! read more

I worked with Melissa M on a master bath project. She was excellent! She was very knowledgeable about all the different products they carried and was able to answer all my questions. I went into the store not really knowing exactly what I was looking for. After a brief discussion, Melissa had an idea of what my style was and showed me products she though would suit my taste & budget. I loved everything she helped me pick out. And my plumber was happy that she included all the necessary plumbing parts I needed for the shower and tub. I also called her a couple of times during the renovation, and she was again very helpful. The store has a very good selection. All my items were available quickly, in spite of Covid. GPS was very flexible with the delivery. We purchased our bathroom sinks from them (very high end) 3 + years ago. Double sink two faucets each. I noticed that the one hot water faucet was getting harder turn on and off. Eventually I would snap it off. I went to General Plumbing Supply Morris-Plains just hoping that they would have a faucet I could purchase. I didn't know that model #. I spoke to Christine at the front desk she was able to pull the information from my old phone number. She called the manufacture hansgrohe and was able to locate a replacement faucet kit they were able to find the model number and sent me the kit with a few weeks from Georgia. There was no charge. I paid nothing. GPS exceeded my expectations. I recommend that if you are buying new plumbing and are looking for higher end quality products along with excellent customer service that you check them out. read more

First of all, I'm a firm believer in supporting the local business's versus the big box or online retailers. I must say I'm totally disappointed in the customer service that GPS provides. First if asked how long does it take to get anything the standard answer is three weeks. After that when making inquires it's always I'll get back to you and never do. My wife and I ordered all new fixtures for a bath that were re doing. It has now been over two months and I still CANNOT get a straight answer on when two pieces of Kohler bath fixtures will arrive. Really???? Yes really. What they are good at is not getting back to you with a firm answer, and passing the buck to someone else. The latest buck passing was to the purchasing department in Edison, it's their fault. Guys and Gals I hate to tell you if you are selling yourselves as a service company you have missed the mark by miles! As a final note I ended up calling Kohler and found out one of the two items was indeed in stock, the other is backordered. But the referred me right back to the dealer to get a date. As if that's going to work. Even with their really nice showroom, I can't say I can truly recommend them. read more

NO STARS. This place does not need your business. My plumber told me to go to this store to buy $1000 worth of fixtures for out kitchen and bath reno. I had pictures on my camera, measurements written down, and i was ready to buy. I walked in the back door and the man behind the counter was shooting the bull with a guy he obviously knew who was sitting on a stool. I politely stood to the side and waited in clear sight - neither acknowledged me and kept on with their conversation for another minute like i wasn't there. Then a woman comes out of a glass office opposite the counter and she moved right past me -- taking no notice of me standing there waiting to be helped. I then notice there is a showroom in the front, so i walk up there and there is one employee sitting at a desk having a very relaxed and casual conversation with a known customer about fixture ideas (NOTE: SHE IS THE ONLY CUSTOMER IN THE ENTIRE STORE). I stand there for a minute - nothing. I walk around slowly and pass the guy two times - nothing. Doesn't even look at me once. I stand still for a minute giving this guy one last time to say SOMETHING - like need help or are are you being helped or i'll be with you in a minute - nothing. It was humiliating to be in an EMPTY store, at 1:00 pm on a beautiful Wednesday and have 4 employees treat me like Im completely invisible and had me stand around like a jerk while i had at least $1000 burning a hole in my pocket. These people have contempt for their customers. You probably shouldn't shop there unless you like begging to make a purchase. read more

I just completed a bathroom remodel and am extremely happy with how all the fixtures and finishes came together. I set out wanting to achieve a spa-like, full bathroom using a gray/white color scheme. GPS in Morris Plains was great to work with and made my vision a reality. The showroom has a great selection of products on display. I was fortunate enough to work with a salesman (Glen) who was extremely knowledgeable and most helpful! I ended up selecting mostly Kohler products, including a Robern medicine cabinet which was on display in the showroom (it provides a little bit of 'glam' and tons of storage). Customer Service was very good throughout the process and was always responsive to my needs. Pricing was also competitive. I would strongly recommend visiting GPS in Morris Plains for any bath remodeling project. read more

If you are looking to make a small purchase don't go. They try to sell you the first thing you see to get you out the door or you are given a parts catalogue and ignored. If you ask a question you are insulted by your "salesperson" for being so stupid. A humiliating experience to say the least. read more
