I've been going to GenerateShen for several months now and really appreciate how good they are. They also accept most insurance, which is totally awesome. Service: Very professional. Devin at the front desk is so on top of everything. He checks your insurance in advance, sends emails with available time for booking and confirmations. Location: The main entrance is upstairs on the back side of Main Street Wilshire and there's free parking in the lot directly across from the building. Space: The space is very zen once you get inside and the rooms are all very clean and professional. Acupuncture: I've been going to Cara Jolly for acupuncture and cupping for overall wellness. She's very professional and targets spots of tension. I got every other week for tune up. Physical Therapy: I recently had a sports injury and got RX for PT. I started going to Akemi Rico, the PT there. She's very calm and knowledgeable. She did a whole body assessment and identified certain weakness in my muscles, stiffness in a joint and biomechanics that's contributing to my recent injury and potential future injury. So we've been working on strength exercises, as well and changing/tweaking how I move. I'm athletic and pretty body aware, and was very surprised that I had these weaknesses. Once she pointed it out, it was obvious, particularly since we've been working on them. Just FYI, they don't have a lot of PT equipment here, just basic yoga mat, balls, foam rollers. So if you need pool/hydro, handrails, exercise machines (pilates, bike etc), this is not the place for you. Note: The space is on the second floor and has stairs. When I first stepped foot in GenerateShen, I was 4 months into recovery from an 8 car pileup on the 405 fwy. Unable to find relief from western modalities, I turned to GenerateShen (even tho I'm terrified of needles!) hoping for even the slightest relief from pain. I knew right away this place was different. You can feel the healing energy the moment you walk thru the door and you can see it in the care taken to decorate the space. Beautiful, calming and sacred. My intake was actually done by Cara Jolly herself, who is the owner and acupuncturist at GenerateShen. The questionnaire was thorough and took the whole mind, body, spirit into account. She actually spent an hour and a half with me, talking in depth about my background and current challenges. We spoke at length about my previous bad experience w acupuncture and my fear of needles. She reassured me at length that my boundaries would be honored. By the time I got on the table, Cara had my complete trust. Over the course of the first 3 treatments I've had so far, she not only performed acupuncture but also cupping and moxibustion (wiki it!). By the time I left, I felt more calm and relaxed than I had in months. Finally, the pain was subsiding. Of course, the treatments and the aftermath are not always easy but they are working. I've made more progress w Cara in less than 3 weeks than I have w all the doctors my lawyers sent me to combined. And here's the most amazing part. Cara accepts Liens! Cara is amazing. I cannot recommend her enough. In fact, after just one session with her, I had *the best* night's sleep I've had in years. Not to mention, I felt both energized and relaxed all day after our session. I've done acupuncture before and enjoyed it. But until you see Cara, you don't know what you're missing. Now that I've been to GenerateShen, I realize that the place I had been going before Cara was more "fast-food acupuncture" - they are treating several people at once, use only a few needles, only let you sit for 10 mins, and then rush you out the door. This is not the case at GenerateShen! This is A+ acupuncture and a really transformative experience each time. Cara takes her time to really focus on you. I had a terrible, life changing experience here several years ago years ago. I checked in at the reception desk and then the receptionist left to clean one of the rooms. I didn't think that was odd given the need to not be overstaffed. But then when the acupuncturist, Ms Jolly, came into my room, it was the receptionist/cleaner. When she placed the 3rd needle in my back, my right arm went numb from the shoulder to the fingertips. I immediately told her and she quickly dismissed it saying it would go away. She then left me with needles in my back and shoulders and went to another room, presumably either to clean it or work on another patient. When she returned 10 mins later I told her my entire arm was still numb and tingling which she again dismissed. Fast forward 5 years and the numbness has never left, I deal with it every day and night. I've tried massage, chiropractic, compression , PT etc with no relief. Why risk it here. read more

This place is a hidden sanctuary off of the bustling streets of Wilshire and La Brea. I've been seeing Paloma who specializes in women's health and fertility. I started seeing her about a month and a half into my pregnancy and that was a total game changer. I suffered from horrible pregnancy sickness and the acupuncture treatments that she gave brought me back to life. Paloma has such soft, sweet, caring energy and that really comes through in her treatments. She's also extremely knowledgeable and has offered lots of guidance and information to support me throughout my pregnancy. The place itself it tranquil and relaxing. They always have the most calming music along with a white noise machine playing in every treatment room. Along with soft color changing lights. They provide a very calming atmosphere. They take insurance which is a plus! And Hylda who runs the front desk is super on it. She's organized and super on top of everything as well as extremely helpful. I've also worked with a few of their massage therapists and gotten prenatal massage. Which has been so nice. Along with seeing there PT for tummy taping to get support for my growing belly. GenerateShen Wellness has changed my life. Until I started seeing Cara and John, I had suffered from migraines for as long as I could remember. This place is super cute. It's not the usual medical office. There's some nice succulent plants on the outside leading to the office. Inside, it's cozy and homey...a very comfortable atmosphere. It has a nice station that serves some tea after your session. Tea is great for post detox btw! There's also some nice art pieces created by local artists. Love that! They support the local people! Did I mention that the beds and blankets are heated?!!! Whhhaaaaattt?! Love that! Went there to see the acupuncturist for some shoulder and muscle issues. Dr. Cheung was very nice and friendly. He made the session seem more fun and not at all scary. He made a few corny jokes that lightened up the mood and distracted me from knowing that there was an incoming needle. He was also very caring about the issues that you have and went above and beyond what was expected. He asks lots of questions and tries to find the underlying cause of your discomfort other than the initial reason that you came in for. He really does care about the mind, body, and soul! Wow wow wow and wow. This place saved me in so many ways. My body:: I do acupuncture and cupping here. I've had chronic problems since my car accident last year. And Paloma has broken down all the toxins and lactic acid buildup in my body. I also do physical therapy here and Akemi gets right to business with exercises and hands on treatment. Celina gives a much appreciated medicinal treatment as massage therapist. And when I say massage therapy, I mean it. The therapy was right on time for my painful spots that I have neglected for years. William too! He's the other massage therapist that's there on staff. Totally different experience from Celina. I have been going to Elements Holistic going on 3 months now, consistently twice per week for accupuncture with Cara Jolly and have added massage as well, with William Leahy. From day one, I felt a really good energy there in their space. Cara's work with my musculoskeletal issues, severe pain levels, back and neck is helping me a lot. My pain levels are improving, as is my mobility. The treatments help me on other levels too. I feel my chakras in balance and meridians open up after treatments. In other words, my body's natural rhythm feels in place, giving me more energy, yet feel relaxed and calm at the same time. Cara is also working on me with TMJ points and stomach points, as I am healing, after a long battle with Colitis. All with great results. I absolutely love this place. I began coming here for acupuncture and cupping with Cara in September of last year after a series of mysterious, chronic health issues. She is without a doubt the most gentle and thoughtful acupuncturist I've ever been treated by. Her background in psychology makes working with her truly a mind and body practice, and I feel safe and understood as soon as I step in the room. I have also seen their naturopath, Dr. Guy, their reiki practitioner, Edward, their psychologist, Bonnie, and their other acupuncturist, John. I had tried acupuncture before but I stayed away for a few years because of either a lack of understanding of what I was saying, or difficulty in finding a person who didn't hurt me. I was experiencing numbness in my right hand and arm when I sleep, and I got a recommendation to try Cara so I thought I would try. She was very professional and gave a very thorough consultation, so that put me at ease instead of saying yeah yeah yeah to every question I had (my previous experience). I did feel some immediate relief, and did some follow-ups with her. I really enjoyed the cupping that she did at the end and my numbness has definitely decreased significantly to the point of almost being gone. Cara is a phenomenal woman and an equally amazing acupuncturist/healer. She is genuine, kind, nurturing, intuitive and invested in your overall health. Cara sat down with me during our first appointment and gave me an overview of what acupuncture is and how she approaches healing. She took the time to go over my information with me and to ask me what it is that I want to work on both physically and holistically. She remembered everything we talked about, and what my needs were in our second session as well, which shows how much she's present and cares. I went in for our first session with incredible knee pain and before our second session the following week my knee was back to feeling completely better. It was because of Cara's approach that I even remembered and made the effort to stretch and take care of my knee in between sessions, too. Every time I visit LA I make sure I schedule an appointment for acupuncture with Cara. After years of PT and Dr's Prescribing this and that, nothing has helped me more than acupuncture. I've been seeing Cara weekly for about 8 months and my overall wellbeing has improved drastically. Before seeing her, I'd have chronic pain from my job and would often get sick from stress as well. I've been going to the GenerateShen weekly for about a year. I've been getting acupuncture and cupping treatments from both Cara Jolly and John Cheung. I started seeing them to get help for my upper back pain, scoliosis, and injury after being in a car accident. In the past, I have been to many acupuncturists that either: 1) there was a language/communication barrier, 2) didn't explain what they were doing or didn't seem to know what they were doing (i.e. looked at a acupuncture poster the entire time they needled me!) and 3) not relaxing or clean environments. This place pretty much is the complete opposite to what I was accustomed to! Once you enter the office, there is a sense of zen, peace and serenity that they've cultivated. They have humidifiers with lemongrass essential oils in every room, relaxing nature and meditation music, and an assortment of teas offered pre/post appointment session. Everything is top-notch down to the soft sheets (they don't use disgusting laundry soup with chemicals), the (weather pending) perfectly comfortable heated or cooled rooms, to the comfortable tables that you melt into after 10 min into your session. Both Cara and John are both absolutely amazing at their skill (have been on TV for being so great!) and are genuinely caring people who are invested in your health and wellness. Cara is particularly great at cupping; the "cupping queen", as some will say...okay, actually I just say this, but it's so true! John is great too! He will use moxa sticks on the areas you are hurting the most, and leave you with acupuncture ear seeds to help you in between appointments. They have both done wonders for my recovery. I'd definitely give them both a try if you can! While you're there, pick up the Dr. Bob's Medicated Oil! It works wonders on areas where you have pain. It has peppermint oil, tea tree oil, cinnamon oil, and other Chinese herbs. Cara is amazing! I had only really tried acupuncture once and it was from a friend who was going to school for it and I didn't really feel different. I decided to give it another shot when my shoulder injury/tendonitis started to cause major discomfort, so I went to Cara. I'm one of those people who have to know the "how, why, where" of things that concern my body and health. Cara sat me down and explained her method and the science behind it which put me completely at ease. I got both needles and cupping done. I gave a response for the first few needles comparing it to what I knew but the following needles felt different (I can't explain it) which was the actual response we wanted so Cara was able to adjust the first few. Cara popped my cupping cherry and it was interesting but again, one of those things I can't explain. I felt so relaxed afterwards to the point of drowsiness and my back looked like I had been held hostage by a giant octopus, which was hilarious to me and my friends (we're kind of dorks) I slept so well that night and the next day I was so energized, my shoulder pain had dissipated some, and even my mood improved significantly. The next session was even more...transcendent is the only word I can think of to describe it. If you're seriously considering acupuncture and are nervous or scared, GenerateShen is the place to go. I've been seeing Cara for acupuncture for three months now, on a weekly basis. I've been to other acupuncturists before for a couple sessions at a time, but this is the first time I've stuck with it for longer than a few sessions and I'm so happy I did! Pros of working with Cara: - She is incredibly focused and present every single week. She listens closely. It bothers me when healthcare providers are distracted, rushed, or make light of issues their patients bring up, and Cara is so far from any of these, taking as much time as is needed to listen to me, my (many) questions, and what is going on that week in my life. I really appreciate this about her. - Practically speaking, I feel SO much better than I did 3 months ago when I began seeing her. The only thing I've changed in my life in that time is starting acupuncture so I have to attribute it to this. - Setup wise, she asks you about everything: the music, the temperature, the lighting, the needles. I love that she doesn't assume anything about my preferences even after seeing me over 12 times now and is genuinely concerned with your being comfortable. - A side note, but still nice: her office is peaceful, centrally located with free parking, and she's stocked it with teas and really awesome books. - She is a rad person! I came to Cara totally terrified of needles and unsure about acupuncture. She's helped me over the past three years on a variety of things and made a huge impact in my life and general wellness. She really listens, takes your feelings and ailments into consideration before deciding the most effective course of treatment for you.
