My son was involved in a motorcycle accident on May 4th and his bike was impounded with Gene's Towing in Lakewood. During an already traumatic and stressful situation, dealing with the front office employee, Rachelle, made the experience exponentially worse. I initially called simply to verify the bike was there. Since I was not on the title, she stated she could not speak with me, which I understood. My son -- who was literally about to be rolled back for spinal surgery -- got on the phone himself to verify ownership and confirm the bike was there. Once he handed the phone back to me, I asked what would be needed for me to retrieve it on his behalf. Rachelle stated it would require either him physically being there or a notarized letter. I responded lightheartedly, saying, "Oof, he's going into spinal surgery right now, that's not going to be easy." Her response was cold and dismissive, saying hospitals, post offices, and banks have notaries and "it's not that hard." The hospital staff actually told me they rarely see notaries come in for situations like this and said a doctor's letter would normally suffice. Still, because of how discouraging and inflexible she was, I paid over $100 for a mobile notary to come to the hospital while my son was in the trauma center recovering from multiple surgeries. When I called back after obtaining the notarized letter, I unfortunately got Rachelle again. I explained that I now had the paperwork and asked whether Gene's could tow the motorcycle back to my home after I paid the storage fees, or if I would need to arrange transport separately. Before I could even finish, she snapped, "I told you I'm not talking to you." At that point, I hung up after telling her she was incredibly difficult to deal with. Today, when I arrived in person with all required paperwork, the interaction somehow became even worse. She was rude, dismissive, and spoke to both me and the independent tow driver I hired with unnecessary hostility. She demanded his registration, insurance, and license, which was fine -- but when his insurance card turned out to be expired paperwork, she again responded with attitude despite him being polite and cooperative. The most shocking part was her demeanor throughout the entire interaction. She was smirking while discussing payment and spoke in an openly snarky tone. After everything -- my child being critically injured, surgeries, hospital stress, paying for emergency notary services -- I was met with sarcasm over asking if she had change for cash payment. I fully admit I eventually lost my patience and called her miserable. I'm not proud of that. But I also work with the public every single day in hospitality and management, and I would be appalled if one of my employees treated people this way during already traumatic situations. Towing companies deal with people on some of the worst days of their lives: accidents, injuries, stolen vehicles, breakdowns, emergencies. Compassion and professionalism matter. What's important to note is that every other employee I encountered at Gene's -- the overnight employee, another office employee helping locate the bike, and the yard employee -- were all kind and professional. I've even used Gene's before without issue. This review is specifically about the conduct and treatment I received from Rachelle. Based on other reviews mentioning similar experiences, I genuinely hope ownership or HR reviews how customers are being spoken to in that office because this behavior should not be considered acceptable customer service. read more

If I could give zero stars to this place I would. They are EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. They don't want to help and are standoffish. I had a car STOLEN and it was taken here. I brought all supporting documents showing proof the car was mine and they said it wasn't enough. They want to keep the car at the tow yard just to collect the money. All the lady at the front desk does is chain smoke and text on her phone. She doesn't even acknowledge the customers coming in. I'm not sure who pooped in her cereal this morning but it shows she ate it and went about her day. read more

The lady running the office here is extremely unprofessional, doesn't return calls, and has zero accountability. Between their tow yard and the collision repair center they lost the key to my vehicle, tried telling me they never had it, then said she would talk to driver and call us back. Never heard back. Funny thing is I have a GPS on my vehicle that showed the ignition in the on position between the two locations. I'm no rocket scientist but I'm pretty sure it takes a key to turn the ignition on. Even if it was an accident, no big deal its all fixable, but take some accountability. read more

My old Silverado died in rush hour traffic today. Talked first to Tammy who was profesional and reassuring. She had a truck on site in under 15 minutes. Kea, the driver was congeniale, profesional and had the old truck safely loaded and to the dealer in under a half hour. Thieves!!! our stolen motorcycle from almost 3 years ago was recovered by PCSD and we received a phone call from SCSD that it was located at the Lakewood Genes Towing After verifying a EXACT match vin # by the lady working in the office he then travels to the other side of the state to retrieve his motorcycle when some lady told him that one of the characters in the vin was differvent and then changed her story to multiple characters were different...... not your bike she said (kind of fishy !!) sherif called and never showed up just the local police dept took one look at a motorcycle that wasn't even the same manufacturer. The VIN number was completely different and they basically told him that it wasn't his bike either well duh I mean this company is thieves their liars and scammers. I cannot believe they've been in business for as long as they have and they're still going.!!! this definitely is not over because this really doesn't make any sense that we would get a phone call from the county that we used to live in where we reported the bike stolen stating that his motorcycle was recovered and then get all the way over there and have them pull up some other bike that's not even the same manufacturer or anything and obviously this bike had the right VIN number when the sheriffs from over there recovered the bike because there's no way they would put that into a stolen motorcycle and have us get a phone call. I live in Puyallup. Today is Thanksgiving. I needed to go pick up my son at SeaTac . Genes Towing had one their drivers park his truck on my private property blocking my way out to the road . The owner called me names that I can not repeat. He said that he can have his driver's park anywhere they want to park. Arrogant! I finally got the tow truck moved so I could pick up son. They towed my buddies care I served with in the marines had all his belongings taken. Heard from past workers they'd take stuff out the vehicles and do some type of auction/facebook sales of people's belongings. I wouldn't trust them and I'm sending in a repot to the BBB in hopes that this company gets shut down or at least fined for illegal practices. read more

Quick, courteous service. They were able to tow our car in a few hours when the other tow companies said it would be days. The driver was very courteous and helpful. No complaints. Would use them again- and may have to if Tacoma can't repair their roads. read more

I haven't actually done any business with Gene's Towing and by looking at the reviews It really makes me not to. I see this truck maybe 1-2 times per week on my way to work and I always see it speeding! On a 35mph zone it's going like 45. It's always cutting lanes and try to speed it's way through. It's so unprofessional that a towing truck would speed that much when there's a lot of cars near by. It makes me think, what if there was a car on the back.. Today this car literally cut right in front of my car when there was barely any room. He force me to almost shift my car and hit the curve. AND they did not even turn on their blinker. And then they took a sharp left turn when a car was coming on the other side to go into the seven eleven,, the other car had to stop for the truck when the truck should of been the one to stop and wait... Really horrible drivers. I would NOT feel safe with using this company to tow my car. They need to realize that their towing truck is a much bigger car than others, and it can be very dangerous if they keep cutting lines so that they can get to seven eleven; and yes I have seen this many times. Would never work from this business, if my car had to be towed, then I would rather leave my car parked than to use this place. read more

My review has nothing to do with the drivers, my review is in regards to the staff within the building. Front desk lady is very rude, won't even get out of her chair to come to the counter to help you, and cuts you off over the phone like we are interrupting her day. She obviously has no people skills, and your rudeness in answering questions is uncalled for. I get it, you could possibly be dealing with rude customers, but thats the job you signed up for. But there are (like me) people that are confused and broken hearted from the circumstance that put our car/truck here in the first place. Shame on you....go find another job! read more

My car got stolen from my house and when the cops found my car I wasn't available to go get it so I went to the towing place and after reading the comments I was ready to fight with a long face but this guys help me more than I imagine. Worst towing company ever had my daughters brand new car towed by Genes towing and the driver cracked and tore her front bumper right where he would hook the chain up to haul it up on a flatbed tow truck. Driver denied it and the store Manager Mike denied his driver did it even though her car was only rear ended and didn't even have a scratch on it as it only has 10,000 miles on it. Do not do business with this company as they will not take responsibility for damages they do to your car! read more

Do not use this company. It's a racket! My friend was hit in an intersection. Totaled his car. Cops called Genes towing. Call your own! They wouldn't let him take anything from the car: bike rack, stereo, speakers, alarm system. After it was towed -Told him in 20 days they could sell it! What!?? Then they sent a letter that said he had 120 hours to move it or they would consider it abandoned and sell it (with thousands of dollars of equipment). Letter received after 96 hours in lot. Downright theft. They need to be shut down. read more

Worst towing company ever! Car was illegally towed from a business parking lot while owner was working inside place of employment. When picking up car 10 min before closing time (photos of their clock and video taken)Genes towing would not open door until 44 min after closing. Owner was told no ones here to help so it is $95 extra late pick up fee. Owner and witness observed several operators in back smoking, two tow truck operators left premises avoiding contact. Tacoma Police were called and was told "Unfortunately this is common, not a very reputable establishment record everything" Glad I have proof. read more

I was in a roll over collision on the 26th of Jan, 2020, and I did everything requested from their financial representative in Tacoma, her name starts with a "T." I paid for my vehicle to be outside of Gene's Towing on Monday, 27th, between 08-12; though I was in much pain. I get a call later from her saying that my car was never picked up. That's not Gene's towing's fault, but she didn't do anything to assist me with the problem even though I asked; such as contact someone at Pick and Pull (who's supposed to get my car, and the tow truck driver said they work with them all the time, and they are just down the street). All she said was she's going to charge me extra as long the car was there. Nothing to assist me! When I went there a second time, she was rude and acted like I was a burden to her. The workers and her are not on the same page. She told me I can't grab anything in my vehicle, while another worker said I could. She told me the Pick and Pull driver didn't have to check in the office, while a worker said that he did. She told me to go outside with my phone when I was talking to the Pick and Pull driver (it was just the two of us inside). Then she had the nerve to smoke right next to me outside when I was on the phone. The drivers at Gene's seem great. But if this lady is answering the phone and dealing with my money, I'll pass. And she had no sympathy that I survived a roll over collision. Very poor customer service. read more

The worst towing company around. Used them a few times and not by choice. They have a deal worked out with the local police department and give them kick backs. There over priced, rude and be careful . If you leave anything of value they will steal it. If I'm ever In need of a tow regardless of what the police say, I will call my AAA, these guys are awful. Hopefully someday something will happen to put them out of business. And what ever they have worked out with the local police should be looked into and done away with. Had a tire blow out on an Audi Q5 driving south bound on I5 near Tacoma Mall. Called Gene's Towing to get a flat bed tow truck to tow my car to Audi in Tacoma. Tow truck operator was clueless on how to get my car onto his flat bed truck. He got frustrated and just drove off without even saying good bye. Called highway patrol to help block my car from being hit on the highway. The patrol officer was surprised that Gene's tow truck operator was clueless on how to get my car up on his flat bed. He called Lincoln towing who came out and simply drove my car up onto his flatbed tow truck. Took maybe 1 minute. Driver was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!! The pure rudeness of the Gene's tow truck operator was surprising. No wonder they are rated so low. Suggest anyone who needs a tow to stay away. 1. Displayed a serious lack of knowledge 2. These guys have always been helpful when they dropoff cars at my shop. The drivers are polite and easy to work with, but most importantly the drivers all seem to be competent when it comes to being able to follow instructions on where to put the cars when delivering. read more

I am self employed and my service truck with all my equipment was stolen just over a month previous ,the police said they would call before calling a tow co. But that didn't happen , the truck was already in tow to the Lakewood facility and they wouldn't give any info on condition of the truck and told me to contact tow co . I called Gene's towing and was told that the tow bill was $202. I said ok 200 buck and I get the truck , he said yes but there's an after hr charge of $92 because it's a holiday , the first 24 hrs are free except if it's a holiday , I said so $300 gets my truck and again was told yes but he would have to call a driver in to be there with me and that would also be $92 , so now I'm up to $400 to get my truck that was stolen from me , so I asked if I could just come and inspect it so I know how I need to tow it and again was told yes for an additional $92 and the cops told me they would call first so I wouldn't get raped, they said the victim shouldn't be victimized by the tow also . So now the police wouldn't tell me anything except to call tow comp and the tow comp wouldn't give any info either till I paid the money.....seriously , I've been big borrowing and stealing to get the equipment to get back to work and here I am getting raped, there's no other word to describe it except rape. read more

Don't know what they're doing. I had them set up to move a trailer for me. It weighs 26,000 lbs and I have tow trucks move them all the time. They cancelled on me morning of the pick up and said their hitch was only rated at 3,000 lbs. I tried to explain to them that 3,000 lbs is tongue weight and they wouldn't be able to pull a car with 3,000 lbs tow weight, but they wouldn't even listen.. read more

Kenny in the back was a gentleman and extremely helpful. He was kind and that was appreciated because seeing our 2017 VW smashed up, and how lucky we were, was emotional for my wife. Would give 0 stars if it were an option 2 nights ago my car was stolen and then found yesterday afternoon... This is the company the cops used... It took them 3 hours to give me information on my car after the cops called after finding it... I called them 6 times and was treated poorly everytime. After finally getting there they charged me over $400 for a 15 mile tow then wouldnt let us put the tires on the car that they said I could when I got there so instead I had to have my normal tow company to get it from their lot then they dont give the spare key to the tow truck driver so I had to drive an extra hour out of my way to go get the spare key. Then the woman in the office proceeded to shh me after I tried to make a complaint. Absolutely ridiculous. Very poor service. read more

I frequently purchase vehicles from auctions such as IAAI. This was my first time dealing with this company, and it will be the last. Out of the 20 or so vehicles that I have shipped from Seattle, this company was by far the worst. Here is the story: I purchased a Vehicle during IAAI's Wednesday auction. I uploaded the load to a website I use to manage shipment of my vehicles. This is the GENERAL NOTE that got posted with my listing "* SHIPPER REQUIRES THIS MUST PICK UP BY 7/11/2017 AND MUST DROP OFF BY 7/18/2017 *" Now, I purchased the vehicle on 7/5/2017, and they had 6 days to pick it up and another week to deliver it to Vancouver, WA. Comes 7/12, I call the company and the "rude" lady everyone is talking about answers the phone. I ask her why the vehicle hasn't been picked up, she tells me it will get picked up on 7/18. I told her it was suppose to get picked up yesterday. She goes ummm no in our system it's getting picked up on 7/18. I told her the REQUIREMENT was for the vehicle to get picked up BY 7/11 and DROPPED OFF BY 7/18. She "double checked" and goes OHHH...we will get it tomorrow. So, I owe $40 late storage for 7/12, and now 7/13. On 7/13 I call again and she tells me "we picked it up yesterday", so I get excited thinking okay, only $40 for storage, I can live with that....but I feel uneasy so I decide to call the auction and verify. I call them, they go out into the yard and tell me one of the loader guys is looking at the vehicle right now, so either they lied or they picked up the wrong vehicle. I call Gene's towing back. The same lady starts giving me the run around, "I could have sworn it was picked up yesterday", "I told the driver to grab it yesterday" and so on. So I ask, when are you actually going to pick it up? She goes Friday for sure. I ask her who will be covering the late storage fees? She tells me never has a person requested they cover storage fees before and I need to talk to the manager. When I requested to talk to the manager she told me he was out and she will leave a message....still waiting for that call today 8/14. Friday comes around and I have zero trust in this company, I called them and told them they are fired and I no longer need their services. She told me sorry it didn't work out, but they had all the intent of picking it up today. There were 3 accidents on my way to Seattle and 3 accidents going back to Vancouver, the round trip took 12 hours and I had to pay the storage fees. Highly recommend finding a different company to tow or transport your vehicles. This experience makes me believe that they are also not careful with the vehicles they tow/transport. read more

I noticed one of Gene's Towing trucks outside the front of my house putting my neighbors truck on the tow truck. When I walked out there, I noticed that the tow truck was about 2 inches or so away from my mailbox and my mailbox; which was perfectly attached an hour before, was now wobbly. I said hi to the driver and said in a friendly voice 'I think you hit my mailbox'. He immediately got defensive and said, 'I didn't hit your mailbox, call my company. I didn't hit your mailbox'. So, I called the Tacoma location and the dispatcher told me he would call the driver to see what happened and for me to call the supervisor in the morning. I went outside to take a picture of how close the truck was to my mailbox and at the same time the driver came around the truck with his phone to take photos. He said, 'you can play these games all night long. If my 24 ton truck would have hit your mailbox it wouldn't be on the post.' I told him that he didn't need to be so rude and he said again, 'you can play these games all night long.' I called the dispatcher again and he told me to call the supervisor in the morning. If this is how the drivers treat people that could potentially be a customer in the future, or even the general public, then there is no way I will EVER do business or recommend this company to anyone. read more
