Tons of small animals as well. Very peaceful and quite. I recommend grabbing a coffee and going early in the am.

During Autumn it's breathtakingly beautiful and if you want to experience it all during one day I'm sure biking would be doable. Now if you keep going instead of veering off to Rush, which is gorgeous during the Fall, you will end up at some kind of junction for the Lehigh Valley Trail, which basically has a mini-museum about trains. The east-west part of the trail has a number of bridges which are interesting, but mainly worth while of either you're a history buff or you're like me and enjoy having a sense of continuity with your running adventures. There is also a stretch of trail that runs from Genesee Valley Park to right before the RIT Barnes & Noble, and that one is okay. I really wish that part of the trail connected all the way to the one near Veterans Memorial Park, but what can you do.

We were sorely disappointed. At first I wasn't even sure that the trail WAS the trail. There was a sign clearly pointing it out, but the beginning was rocky, severely uneven, and overgrown. Okay! No problem. Maybe it was just a rough start? So we pushed on. But it got worse. You can tell that the land is often swampy, because they had a makeshift "boardwalk" laid out near the water. So mushy ground wasn't a problem. But the overgrowth got so bad that we opted to turn back after only about 10 minutes of walking. (See photos!) Based on our experience I would NOT recommend the trail, because it is not well maintained. But I did snap a picture of the lodge and the pavilion on the way out, and those seemed nice. So I gave it 2 stars for that!

It was about 5 miles long and had wonderful views. It has beautiful bridges and walking paths so you weren't walking in mud. Lots of nature views! Some of the trail goes behind some houses but it isn't terrible and is for a short stretch of the hike. The dogs absolutely love it. There are even sections were you can go up to the canal and the dogs can go swimming. Definitely coming back here sometime soon.

I mean, when in your life ... in the middle of a metropolitan area ... have you been able to get this up-close view of these types of towers? There is some beautiful graffiti & a mural on a nearby building -- def wishing I had taken pix of a gorgeous bird mural. We live near Highland Park, so walked to the corner of Clinton & Field Streets and followed the well-marked trail up to the peak (lots of green paint on trees, to guide you). You could also enter from the parking lot of Hillside off of Highland Ave. It is one of a range of four hills in the city -- Cobbs Hill, Pinnacle Hill, Highland Hill (in Highland Park) and Mount Hope (in Mount Hope Cemetery). Fairly easy, but some climbing and stooping (that yoga will pay off for your flexibility to scoot under a fallen tree!) toward the end .... but sooooooooo worth it! Rocks can be a little slippery, but worth it to get a little dirty, in order to be awed by nature! GPS/Locations: Waterfall: (N 42.66758 / W 77.58907) Parking: (N 42.66833 / W 77.59166) Directions: Located on the south-east end of Hemlock Lake, on the east side of Rt. 15A. Take I-390 south to Rush and follow 15A south along Hemlock Lake. After passing Johnson Hill Road, Reynold's Gully will be a mile down on your left. Parking: Park in the small dirt area near the gully. Space for a few cars.

A park inside a park! Washington Grove deserves its own review separate from the glory of Cobbs…read moreHill, though it is located adjacent to it. It is easy to miss from every entrance if you aren't careful. I've been exercising and walking the dog at Cobb's Hill for ~6 years and just this winter break finally made the walk down/up into the Grove. Accessible from Nunda Blvd OR the Reservoir, you can hike around the forest area and eventually be lead up to a gorgeous display of public water tower art. There are gorgeous murals here. Some of Rochester's top artists have left their mark and you can walk around both towers to see what pieces speak to you most. There were families exploring the day I was here, even though it was a chilly day. Don't wait many years to explore this part of the park like I did. Get over there and breathe in some fresh air!

MacKay Wildlife Preserve is a nice oasis out in the country with some trails, benches, limestone,…read moretrees and with just a little bit of an adventurous spirit, you're bound to have some good times here. We stopped here on a whim and walked around for about a half hour and found the place nice and serene. Although the start of the preserve begins with a rusty, decomposed automobile, it's cool that it's a part of the history of the park. With a fellow Yelper, we walked around some of the trails, enjoyed education via little signs and postits around the park -- and we even found an adjacent railroad track with some train cars still attached. Only wildlife witnessed was squirrels on this rainy March day, but we only explored a little bit of the trails here. Dogs are allowed as far as I know, so definitely check this place out if you're in the area!

Nice little trail tucked away in the backroads of Mumford, NY…read more We stopped off here after a very hefty lunch - a good reason for checking out a hike, after all! I thought the history behind the land was pretty cool. Once farmland, the family donated the land to be a Wildlife Preserve. Woman-driven, too. Girl power! It is really a space reclaimed by nature. There are some noticeable trails and signs, but once you dive deeper into the Preserve, the man made aspects start to seem not so preserved. Some of the signs on the trees are partially torn off, some missing altogether. There's a really cool rusted away car sitting right at the start of the trail! There were also a few birdhouses, though they were clean empty. I really enjoyed walking through here! It's dog friendly (as long as you pick up after them) - but I also saw a sign that warned about ticks, so be mindful. It's a pretty tough path once you get deeper in, too - I nearly tripped a couple of times. Definitely wear some sturdy boots.

About an hour and a half drive from Buffalo, part of it on the Thruway part of it on back roads. The drive was certainly easy. There's a large wild parking lot here, and the trail is well marked and also groomed. I happen to be here on a chillier day in May 2024, and it had recently rained, so the trail was a little slick and parts. There is a fair amount of mud here. Easy parking, this is a lovely trail for a stroll in the woods.

Went on a hike that started at Turning Point Park and we kept on following the signs all the way to…read morethe end, which turned out to be the pillar on the cement block out in the middle of Lake Ontario where the Genesee River empties out. I'm not sure how many miles it was, but I can tell you we walked about 16,000 steps from the parking lot to the end and back. It was a nice walk and we ended up walking by the waterways and passing by great places to grab a drink, as well as a carousel. Definitely check this trail out.

I am simply writing this review based on my recent experiences traversing this trail* Sigh. I am going to be blunt here...this trail could be The Shit and it is instead simply, shit. I have made it my quarantine mission to walk this whole trail and have made it most of the way at this point, just leaving the end of the trail by UofR left to do. I have felt a wide variety of emotions while traversing so far, the most prominent being frustration and disappointment. We can and WILL do better, but I do think there's some very basic things that could happen like tomorrow without millions of dollars to help keep this trail up for locals. ANYWAYS... I don't think it is possible for the signage to be less clear in the downtown portion of this trail. I walked it as though I was a tourist and found it deeply upsetting. Not only are the NUMEROUS portions of the trail that take you on an uncertain goose chase, much of it is not on the water at all. The portions that are (coming up to Main St etc) look as though they have not been touched or thought about since the trail was created. I am determined to keep trying and learn more each time I do this walk. Overall, if you are a tourist wondering if this is worth exploring: it IS! Just stick to visiting each individual park/landmark and walking portions of the trail that way. Avoid the center city portion, and you will find some beautiful views. Looking forward to see how we improve this as a city in my lifetime!
