Well, the check came today -- I was not reimbursed in full, because DMD charges three times the allowable amount by United Concordia. I called DMD, and they told me that is what they charge and they don't know what the insurance's allowable amount is. I am out $300 from improper information given to me by DMD. I feel swindled, so that I made an appointment there. I also have a cavity (my first) of which I had an appointment with DMD to get filled. I need to start from square one and my tooth is killing me. ...The plus to DMD is that the dentist is thorough and the people are nice, but unfortunately that doesn't cut it.

I was subsequently billed $600+ for the work that was done. To add insult to injury, within a year, two of the fillings that were done have since fallen out and needed to be replaced. My money is gone and so is my time. However, I am currently a patient at a dentist office who clearly knows what types of insurance is accepted and how to correctly fill cavities.

I hadn't been to a dentist in about three years and I'm not comfortable just going any old place. Dr. Patel's office has rave reviews so I took the chance. The moment you walk in the door you experience the beautiful office and ambiance. It's beautiful, clean, and modern. They have a very welcoming waiting room with a loaded fridge of fancy drinks and a nice coffee maker on the counter. A flat screen TV sits on the wall over a fancy fireplace. I was immediately greeted by the receptionist and Judy. My new patient visit was long, but so in-depth! I've never had such an appointment. Here's the run down: Judy took me into her office and wrote down all my concerns and some history on a pad. Then she gave me a quick tour of the place, which included their great technology (a crown machine for same-day crowns and a 3D 360 scanner that can see all kinds of things in your head and neck). After a quick wait in the waiting room, I was brought to my room and Dr. Patel came in. Judy went over the list with us and then Dr. Patel ask me a few questions and took a peek in my mouth. She ordered the 3D scan and bite wings. Renee, the dental assistant, then came in and took me for my scans. We came back and she asked me some questions and explained what the exam would be like. When Dr. Patel came back, she reviewed all my scans and some notes and then dove into the exam. The exam was lengthy and consisted of feeling around my head and neck with her fingertips to look for trigger points and anything of concern, lots of measure of teeth and of jaw range, inspected my teeth and gums with her instruments, taking photos of my teeth with a small wand. She then explained her findings to me and a plan of action. I have a lot that needs work, but they somehow made it seem like no big deal and manageable. Then it was back to Judy to schedule my first set of appointments and explain the costs to me. She gave me the worksheet and was in touch the next day to follow up on what we discussed. I also briefly met the hygienist, Julia, who answered my questions and settled my fears about a deep cleaning. Overall, I LOVED my experience and am grateful to every staff member I met for being so kind and professional. You honestly rarely see such kindness and positivity in a clinical setting. I…read morehave serious issues with my teeth due to some issues out of my control and he has been able to save teeth that would otherwise ended up needing a root canal or implant. I'm also disabled and on social security so my financial situation is not great. However he always prioritizes my health and works with me so that I can get the work I need done and work out the financial situation so I'm not forced to forego care when my funds are slim. But more importantly Dr. Stover LISTENS. Several times I've had issues with my teeth that have not shown up on x-rays. Of course he warns me that if he works on a tooth that doesn't have a problem it's a waste of my time and money. However when I've said I'm willing to risk it we've discovered that I really did have tooth decay. If he hadn't been willing to listen to me I would have ended up with abscessed teeth and root canals. Dr. Stover really treats his patients as actual humans and gives them respect. He will not rush you out of the office or just pretend to listen to you which is more than I can say for many doctors and dentists. So if you want a dentist that won't treat you as a number or just a source of money I suggest choosing Dr. Stover and supporting a small and independent local practice.

When I called, Amy addressed me in a way that felt dismissive and accusatory, as if I was avoiding payment, without any acknowledgment of my situation. I understand the importance of honoring financial obligations, but the way people are treated--especially in healthcare--makes all the difference. Compassion, understanding, and sensitivity go a long way. A2Z Smile would really benefit from customer service and sensitivity training to better handle situations where patients are going through difficult times. It was done by a well known Dr, but unfortunately not correctly and started a cycle of TMJ. After several consultations with dentists and prosthodontists, I chose one to redo the replacement veneers. The temporaries were not aesthetically pleasing, and I switched to another cosmetic dentist, again well known with lots of examples of beautiful work on the website. This effort did not solve the bite issue, and a week after the new veneers, the TMJ was back and worse. By then the TMJ was affecting the musculature and visual appearance of my face. Luckily, an orthodontist friend introduced me to Dr. Kim. It was worth the five hour flights from San Francisco for treatment. Dr. Kim is extremely professional and patient. His first objective is the correct functioning of the jaw and bite. It took time to recover the natural bite and eliminate the TMJ. He patiently explained and answered lots of questions over an extended period of time, and gave me a lot of confidence that it would finally turn out right. Over the course of recovering the natural bite, we worked a lot on aesthetics. After the studying and experiences I've been through, I know what good teeth look like. He took into consideration the length, bulk, and size of teeth to make a natural smile and appearance when talking.
