I'm visiting my family for an extended period of time in St. Charles. I have an ear infection and went on antibiotics last Friday (that were prescribed not by my primary care doc in Evanston, but by a doc in the Glenview NM office who was able to do a telemedicine visit with me since she was the only doc available on short notice). Fast forward 6 days -- I still have lingering ear issues, and I really want to see someone in person to make sure there's not another underlying issue, and I wanted to have my ears cleaned out because my PCP told me I needed to have that done the last time I saw her, and I was lazy and never did so. I figured that might be part of why I'm not getting better. Despite that they have all my medical records because they're part of Northwestern Medicine, and that I went to FVFP for the first 26 years of my life, they won't see me because I'm not a current patient at their specific office and since I'm not planning to switch to them permanently. My entire family still goes there. The doctor I was trying to see delivered me 33 years ago. I'm in the suburbs and can't drive 2 hours to go see my PCP in Evanston right now, especially with the protests going on that make it really hard to get out there. They told me to go to immediate care instead, despite me saying I really don't want to go to a walk-in clinic in the midst of a pandemic. So, I'm now my only option is to schedule an appointment with my PCP when I'm back in Evanston. Hopefully whatever infection is still lingering doesn't become a major issue before then. Also, it was impossible to get ahold of the doc's office. If you call their main number it reroutes to NM's central answering service. The two women I spoke to there were perfectly nice and understanding, but it's not possible to call FVFP directly. And the nurse from FVFP who called me back was quite rude as I tried to explain the situation and why I couldn't go to my primary care doctor.

I woke up with unbearable back spasms and needed a prescription for muscle relaxant. I called right when the clinic opened and was told that when he gets in they will give him the message. I was in such horrible pain that I couldn't driven to get help. Every hour I called and talked to one of the nurses and at first she said he was late getting there. Then a couple hours later it changed to, "he got the message, he'll get back to you soon". After 7 hours of waiting and having to deal with the nurses being annoyed with me for my persistence my husband was able to come and take me to Urgent Care. Ironically I received a call that the prescription had been filled while I was in the waiting room of Urgent Care. Worst experience with a doctor or clinic that I have ever had.

She is very easy to talk to and work with, especially now that upcoming events in my life will make it difficult for me to come back in three months for my medicine checkup. Before I could even sit down to fill out the paperwork they were bringing me back to an exam room. So I waited like, zero minutes! The nurse doing the vitals was very friendly and very fun to work with. She took all the stress out of the appointment. Dr. Steve was awesome! Very calming, and listened to my issues. Dr. Steve and I talked about my problem and generated a solution, more like we were a team working together. I liked that. And they have the My Chart App. that was awesome because the flu shots that I've gotten an Walgreens were automatically loaded into the app. That's pretty cool. I was out of the office probably in less than a half an hour. This will sound weird, but I can't wait to get sick again to go back. AVOID Dr. Shailee Shah at Northwestern AT ALL COSTS. Dr. Shah showed zero ability to think beyond a basic checklist or connect clinical data points. I had to order and pay for critical out-of-state labs and tests (money we don't have) to identify the root cause of my husband's illness. She dismissed my questions arrogantly, insulted my concerns when I pushed her to reconsider, and repeatedly refused the specific test that ultimately revealed the source of his condition. She also refused to provide a simple financial hardship letter required by Mayo Clinic, blocking us from seeking better care despite knowing our dire situation. Dr. Shah was fully informed of our financial crisis, our family at risk of losing our home due to my husband's sudden illness. She misdiagnosed him, under-treated him, and when she learned we were consulting legal counsel, she abruptly pulled his treatment in an apparent attempt to force him back under her care and cover her negligence. Her ego drove every decision. Her incompetence clouded every solution. Northwestern's system enabled this. The neurology department manager, Caitlyn, confirmed that patient care takes a back seat: doctors have total control ("It's their license, their say"), even without objective evidence that treatment is unnecessary. Being trapped in the Northwestern network allowed Dr. Shah's errors to persist across multiple providers. Over 8 hospital stays and 10 months, the aligned neurologists doubled down on her misdiagnosis. My husband deteriorated into catatonia, seizures, and coma. Only a targeted infusion finally woke him. If I had followed their collective advice, he would likely be dead or far more damage than he is, caused under Dr. Shah and Dr. Santwani's care. This was preventable incompetence compounded by institutional protection of negligent doctors. Spare yourself and your loved ones: DO NOT TRUST Dr. Shah with care. Your quality of life depends on it.
