My wife and I had Genna (and Olga on the business and communication side) put in a new kitchen and two bathrooms in our DC condo. We had some trouble with the timeline, and they were mostly understanding, although they did require us to pay something when we delayed their schedule. I thought it was fair though as that was our fault. Their work was very good overall. They didn't give the best paint job I've ever seen, but it was certainly better than average. They were a little stubborn about some of our design requests, but I think they honestly were trying to make sure that we were within code, within budget, and importantly that we would like the finished product. They were great in that respect - always careful to try to keep costs down and explaining how any particular choice would affect the final price. When unexpected problems came up (as they always will in contracting big jobs) they laid out reasonable options for us and they time and price differences. They were honest about what they could do well and demurred when asked to do things they thought were not in our best interest rather than trying to pad the job. They made one small mistake in putting a shower wall about 2 inches in the wrong spot, but worked very hard to make it right quickly and made a point of showing us how it they would absorb the cost. They were extremely friendly and funny once we got to know them, and helped us out in unexpected ways, e.g. driving me to Home Depot (I don't have a car) to help me pick out the best materials, and helping me learn a bit of Russian and Ukranian. Their clean-up was good, but the tape they put down damaged the finish on our floor when removed. They claimed this was not their responsibility, as the finish is (really) very old and peeling already. I accepted this because the floor is quite damaged and will be replaced in the future, and because I believe they saved us enough money over the whole job that I didn't want to quibble. Overall, I was happy to find a contractor that I always trusted to be honest, who worked around our schedule, and design idiosyncrasies, and who delivered a good final product. read more

I give Genna's Construction top honors for all of the work they have done for us. It all started with a single master bath renovation. They did such a beautiful job on our master bath completely transforming it, removing a large 1980s-type jacuzzi and pink tile and replacing it with a custom shower and beautiful double vanity with a custom granite countertop. We then had them renovate the second hall bathroom, which they did under a major time crunch since we were about to have our first child and needed to have the construction done before he came! We had such a great experience that we had Genna rebuild a new deck off the back of our house. While working on that project, we discovered that the bricks under our siding were crumbling from weather damage, etc. Since this affected the overall structural integrity of our house, Genna made it a point to fit this additional project into his schedule so that we would not have to worry about it while we took care of our newborn infant. He replaced all of the crumbling bricks, resealed everything, added some beams for structural support and put up new siding on top. He did everything in a timely manner and always was extremely courteous and considerate of our space, keeping everything really clean and working around our schedules with the infant. We also have a little pug puppy who just loved Genna. We never had to crate her when he was there. He always made sure she did not escape, and would even play with her. She does not like everyone and can be a little shy, but she loved Genna. We really enjoyed working with Genna and his crew and would use them again for any project on our house in the future. read more

Definitely a team there. Organized and efficient. I had a holiday issue, tied to emergency plumbing and they came out and fixed it when I had already called some primary / BIG repair groups. He explained what was wrong, what the correct fix was, and did not charge me the insane amount that the others were all quoting. Money is time, and you should always be organized and know what you need when working with any repair group. My experience is such that I will go with them again, and forgo any main companies. If your very precise and focused on details you will do well with them. I have worked with other Eastern Europeans, and I always find they are unusually organized. After the initial fix of the plumbing, I asked him about a kitchen issue repective to a stove/oven, he explained where it had originally been put in by the Ikea people contractor incorrectly that as it was originally installed by the contractor from Ikea that under Virginia law the original Contractor can/could be required to come back and install the proper fire guards. So he is pretty familiar with the rules and regulations, tied to Kitches and Plumbing - got it fixed by the original contractor. Finally, I had him look at a pipe issue from an upstairs pipe, and he explained within a few minutes why it was failing and did the fix on the spot with parts from his vehicle. Genna had his associate Tomas put in a backsplash, shower shelves, under cabinet lighting, and medicine cabinet for me. They also patched a hole in my drywall from an accident I had. Genna was communicative by email and he was able to fit into my schedule, show up on time agreed, and finish the work within a reasonable amount of time (a few days). I was warned of the possibility of an extra charge over the estimate regarding the medicine cabinet in advance because it was possible going to be more complicated, so the bill contained no surprises and prices were reasonable. He stuck to his estimate, and for his materials charge, he will scan you copies of the receipts. I gave him a bank check deposit upon his arrival at my home. For more significant work, he will want the deposit in advance. He's very honest. Most importantly, the work looks great. I chose the components (tile, medicine cabinet, lighting) based on my own research. Genna was a referral from a friend in my building and I will use him and his subs again. A friend of mine, after seeing the results, already is interested in using him for similar work and cabinet install. I'm very happy. After a negative electrician experience, I am happy to find someone in the DC area who I can rely on and who is nice and easy to deal with. read more

Highly recommended! Olga handles the business side of things, and she's quick to return calls, send estimates, and generally answer questions. We hired them for what turned out to be a 3-day job, and she was more than helpful, even emailing me a sketch of the door we were replacing so that I could find the right size. Genna was great - did everything we asked, and even a bit more. In fact, I saw him at Home Depot while he was on another job and - once he saw what a mess I was getting ready to make of a bathroom vanity replacement - he offered to come over that day and help me with it. They both offered money-saving tips for us, which was nice. What could have been costing us $2000 in materials ended up costing us much less. Even though our job was pretty low budget, Genna did show me some photos of a nighclub renovation he did in Georgetown, and it looked amazing! So.. they can do both small and large jobs - which we're keeping in mind for the future. An added bonus is that our dog, who tends to want to eat strangers, LOVED Genna. Not having to keep killer tied to my hip the whole time Genna worked was a nice change of pace. read more

I recently engaged Genna's Construction for a major project that centered around remediation of water damage and a kitchen renovation. My experience with then taught me an awful lot about listening to professionals. When this project started I had a lot of my own ideas about how the work should be done and attempted to save money by directing how (and who) should accomplish the work. I could have shaved more than a month off the project as well as some cash by just listening to Genna and his wife Olga (Design & Paperwork) from day one. Olga had a wealth of design ideas to help improve the resale value of the home (which sold in less than 72 hours on the mkt). Genna has a common sense approach that I really appreciated throughout the project. In short they and their employees are professional, honest and quite good at what they do. Genna's Construction recently completed a renovation of the bathroom and kitchen in a rental property we own in Washington, D.C. We were extremely pleased with their work. We found their work excellent and actually hope to use them again in the future on any renovation we need in our residence. The existing kitchen was possibly fifty years old so the renovation had complications with uneven walls, difficult issues matching existing wood flooring and tile and plumbing and electrical complications. Genna's team was economical and responsible coming up with good suggestions and cost-effective options. This husband wife team is a great find for their competence and terrific good nature when things unexpectedly happen ( like cabinets from Martha Stewart arriving damaged twice and other structural building problems not of their making). We had a great experience with Genna. When we decided to have our kitchen backsplash tiled, we were very inexperienced with any kind of home improvement. Genna was very patient and explained everything we would need to do, and pointed out problems that we would need to address amid the job (namely, some odd features and electrical wiring errors that the original redeveloper of our condo had built in, and that Genna discovered as he began working). When we changed our minds about the size of tiles, he had helpful suggestions about how to make sure the end product is attractive. Genna is not a designer, but he has a good eye for style and gave us great advice on that count. He did the job efficiently, and we were very satisfied with the price vis-a-vis his initial estimate. We hired Genna's construction to fix a leak in our newly bought home that a previous contractor was unable to repair. I really wish we had worked with them from the start. After pulling up some boards, Gennadiy pointed out that the interior of the walls was rotted after years of the leak being ignored or superficially repaired (new drywall and caulking). He ended up rebuilding much of our back area, and a new deck. His workmanship was excellent. I told us it would be a month long project, but he finished in 3 weeks. He kept us informed of his progress and showed us what he was improving. Gennadiy can be very direct, which I really appreciated. Once he finished, there were a number of heavy rains in DC, but the area where the leak had been was completely dry. I highly recommend Genna's construction, and certainly hope to use them in a few years for some renovations. read more

I got my bathroom completely redone using gennas construction. They were the BEST contractor i have ever hired. They finished early and were right on budget. Genna and his crew were always on time and seemed extremely knowlegable about my entire project. He gave me helpful advice through out the entire job. His wife, who handles most of the scheduling and invoicing constantly kept in contact with me and answered any questions i had. The price was afforable and the finished product was absolutly beautiful. My tile work looked especially fantastic. Genna also helped with several smaller side projects in my kitchen. We hired Genna to do a bunch of work in our downtown Washington condo. We solicited several bids and they came out on top on both price and the work they could do. We had them redo our closet - take down drywall, put up new drywall, and reinstall shelving; paint the entire place; put in a backsplash; install under cabinet lighting; and install a linen closet. They did a great job on everything and came in on budget and on time. They're very friendly and were very easy to work with - one piece of advice is to put as much in writing as possible as their English is a little weak but they can read and understand that quite well. Recently I had to renovate bathroom in my single family home, but with my busy schedule there was no way that I could do it all by myself (I am managing large retail business and working most of the time). Walls and floor had to be replaced, as well new floor tiles had to be installed in place of old one. Genna's Construction built a gorgeous bathroom for us, from replacing rotting drywall and floor boards to tiling a walk-in shower stall. We were very hands on, selecting our own tile and ordering fixtures online, so I can't attest to their work on those tasks, but for all plumbing, tiling, construction, and painting they did fantastic work. They also recommended ways to reduce costs. We were so excited to have their help we even asked them to re-calk the tub in a second bathroom and install our new microwave oven. They were very reliable and thorough, cleaning up the mess every day after work and even befriending our dog. read more

I don't know anything about construction but I do know that he did the work much faster than anyone we've hired before and the price beat the others by a lot too. I was really impressed by Genna's work. He came to my house to renovate the basement. New floor tiling was put in plus new drywall. He also replaced our old water heater. He could have simply did his job then left, but he took the time to show me where some of the older pipes connected to the water heater had gone bad, and were leaking a bit. He replaced the old pipes and now everything is working good as new. Genna definitely impressed me with is skills as a carpenter and a plumber, and saved me the time from having to call separate contractors. read more
