I needed a new dentist and wanted a cleaning, so I chose this one. My first appointment included a complete set of x-rays and a thorough exam. But most of the time was spent walking me through the $13,000 worth of dental care they claimed I needed, with the x-rays used as 'evidence". They recommended a 3-session "Deep Cleaning" that costs over $3,000, and five crowns. I have no insurance, so when I asked which crown was most urgent, the response was that all were equally urgent. Though merely "preventative." I requested a regular cleaning instead of the "Deep Cleaning" and they REFUSED to give me one. After previously telling me that would be part of this first visit. I've always had regular dental care from qualified professionals who always assured me that care options were my choice. And they all had the philosophy, "If it's stable, don't mess with it." It's very interesting that my previous dentist saw me 6 months ago and mentioned NONE of these problems. This leads me to the" conclusion that Gentle Dental is just trying to make a lot of money by urging unneeded treatments. My son looked them up on a consumer watchdog website and the vast majority of the comments said that very thing. Our bad for investing $100 in their "smile plan" up front. But I guess that's a small price to pay to find out that we need a different dentist. Gentle Dental, you're fired! read more

You provide an expensive service (braces) that is generally for children, who are in school, yet you close at 4pm (y'all should be open till 7pm, so they don't have to miss school every month). Also generally when you are doing monthly checkups (paid for in advance) you should have an availability that isn't a month out. If you had more staff and weren't only open four days a week till 4pm (one day a week at the Woodstock location), this wouldn't be an issue. Stop being greedy and hire more folks. read more

I went in for a routine filling. 3 months later I have constant pain in my tooth. They made no effort to fix it or help me and only wanted to refer me out to their in network endodontist. I am now going to be in the hole an additional $2000 because they were unable to correctly do my filling and caused damage. read more

I had Kaiser Dental for as long as I can remember with my mom's insurance and once I turned 26, I had to get new dental insurance. Because of the pandemic, I hadn't had the urge to find a new place until the end of 2021, even though I had my own dental insurance already! LOL Anyway, I found that Gentle Dental is covered by my insurance through my job and decided to pick this place for a cleaning and x-rays. The staff was super nice throughout and I felt like I got special treatment as a new patient, but I'm not complaining! I'm curious to see how my next visit will be as I will no longer be a "new patient" to them. Overall, super clean and friendly staff. They booked my next appointment for me already at the end of my first visit which is great because I hate calling in to make an appointment. They also gave me some travel sized dental care which I really appreciated. read more

I love this place. I recommend it all the time. The people are extraordinary. You get a doctor and keep it, so no round-robin. They work with my chronic pain issues - Gentle is right. I went to this establishment because they were a network provider under my insurance. I found out after a consultation that they only do cleaning and fillings. They referred me to an orthodontist in the same network. After missing work I found out my general doctor should do extractions. The Orthodontist required an extensive procedure I could not afford. Both facilities gave me the run around and left me in pain , on codeine and no resolutions. It's no wonder people get addicted to the painkillers if the doctors make excuses not to do what the patient requests. read more

The staff and dental assistants at this location get 5 stars - but do NOT allow Dr. Grasvik to work on your teeth! He is not following CDC guidelines for Covid-19. He didn't wear a mask during most of my visit, and mocked me for not wanting to shake hands! He bragged about how quick he worked, but my mouth feels like it was in a foxhole. Again, every other person in that office was super careful and helpful! Just avoid Dr. Grasvik. read more

this rating is for one of the assistants treatment of me, Nicole. everyone else was kind, and I do recommend Kim Erickson as a surgeon. Clackamas lied to me and said the dr didnt perform a sinus closure they charged 1k for- and 5 days later I finally got a call back telling me they did do it, just "Oops said the wrong thing-make sure you're following the instructions we gave". I called and was just talked over top of by the assistant who had lied, couldn't finish my sentence before she just denied it being her fault. Like what if I was counting on that money for rent and was expecting it back like they TOLD me it would be? I didnt know for 5 days I was supposed to be doing extra precautions because I didn't know it was done-how could I have been following the precautions? Where do these people get off? Bottom line- make sure they're actually telling you factual information because it's no sweat of their back if YOU get screwed over. Theyll just be rude to you on the phone after they said you could "call with any questions ". read more

I think this was a good place for me. I have lots of fears and because of that lots of issues due to not going to the dentist. I've had the worst luck with dentist yelling and lecturing. However this place made me feel very comfortable. They explained things thoroughly and told me it could be a lot worse. They laid out a plan to get things back on track and make it all better. Loved the Doctor. She kept asking how I was doing and am I ok. It was all positive reinforcement through out today's procedure. We have a plan and the worst is over at least I hope so. read more

I gave this office one star because they actually performed the services we paid for. They didn't do anything else to show kindness or comfort. Both of my sons had their wisdom teeth out on the same day. The office staff told me 3 people were too many to wait together in the waiting room due to covid restrictions, but we could wait out in the mall. We sat out there for 3 hours total and the waiting room was empty most of the time. While we waited one of the doctors came and went from the office multiple times with no mask on at all. We saw him walk outside over and over... Drinking problem? Heavy smoker? Not sure what the deal was. I only know he was a doctor because the front desk staff called him that. That is mostly personal and low-impact. The more problematic issue was that they gave us a bunch of prescriptions at the consultation with no direction on how to use them. I only got 2 days worth of prescription pain medicine per patient with no way to refill over the weekend. And for some reason we got a prednisone taper? No idea why that would even help after surgery. It all seems like such a waste. This dentist does not care. If you go to them they will treat you like dirt. read more

i.m writing this review not for the entire Gental Dental, On the whole, they are ok. It's hard to get in to see them because they are located inside Clackamas Town Center, and I am not a mall person. sometimes it take 15 minutes just to find a parking space. Very inconvenient. I'm writing this review on the best dental assistant I have ever had. Her name is Miesha and she works along side Dr. Skorborg. Not only is she good at her job, but she is excellent at putting the patients at ease. at least for me, she hugs me when she sees me, and if I'm apprehensive, she'll hold my hand until she has to start working. My husband and I had our first visit here this week. Before we even stepped foot in the office, they called us to help us fix an insurance issue and to inform us of a cancellation that left an opening. When we got there, the ladies at the front were very helpful. It's a typical wait about 10 min, I brought a book. The techs and doctor were all very easygoing. They listened to my problem with my wisdom teeth and expected them to recommend they be removed. However the doctor said my teeth were great and gave me some cleaning tips to alleviate the pain. Each dentist I've been to (in other states) has always been quick to want to take out my wisdom teeth (that I could definitely not afford being a student without insurance) or uncomfortably push products or services on me. This dentist and staff are all very easygoing, nice, professional, helpful, and quick!! I highly recommend! read more

If you have good insurance and are looking to be ripped off, then this is the place for you. They will "sell" you, from all possible angles, what your insurance will pay for. Needless to say, if you have a credit with them, you'll be the last to know and they'll be the first to sign you up for more service so your credit can be depleted. They don't pay attention to your history and will convince you that a particular treatment is needed because it's covered by your insurance. Won't be going back to this place. read more

I moved to Portland from CA recently and had to get a new dentist. I am pretty skeptical of dentists by nature because of previous poor experiences and consider a good dentist hard to find but when you find one, you keep them. Based on a referral I visited Gentle Dental and had a great experience. Dr. Skovborg was great and everyone was incredibly friendly, professional and thorough. I really felt like they considered me someone special for my xrays, checkup and cleaning. It's looks like once upon a time this place might have been ok to receive care from. In the decades of dental care I have received I have never been treated as if I am not a 40 plus year old woman who knows when she's getting ripped off. I went in for a simple cleaning (of which I never received and best believe I will be fine combing my insurance invoice to make sure I was not charged for it) and xrays to be told I needed a deep cleaning because my numbers were high. Now if I were not someone who has been in periodontal care for the past decade, I might have believed them but the numbers did not add up. PLUS did not finish the job she started and tried to lie and say her next person had not shown up and she had time to do the deep cleaning but not a regular cleaning....? One top of it all this woman was trying to get me to pay for two deductibles for a nonemergent issue.... I felt like I was at a Jiffy lube of dental care. DO NOT GO HERE!! I scheduled an appointment here to get a dead tooth removed that was giving me sharp pains in my head and they took my X-rays and confirmed the dead tooth with me and scheduled a day to come back and get it removed. When I came back they gave me laughing gas and after I was finished I realized they pulled the WRONG tooth! They cut into my gums and pulled one of my wisdom teeth out without my knowledge. I informed the manager and she denied it all and claimed I made an appointment to get my wisdom teeth removed but fyi I didn't even know my wisdom teeth were grown in until I got my X-rays done at gentle dental so that wasn't possible. I even came close to doing a malpractice case on them but wasn't sure how to go about it so I never pulled through and had to go to another dentist and pay AGAIN to finally get my painful dead tooth removed. This experience was such a shame considering I don't have dental insurance and had to pay so much out of pocket TWICE. Completely unprofessional place and I recommend never going here read more

I had my wisdom teeth taken out today... and to say I was nervous was an understatement. The one thing I didn't like is they wouldn't let my boyfriend back with me. Which I only wanted him there until I was put under. BUT, the front office girls were great, and Valentina was so nice and helpful, and calmed my nerves. Love this office! I went to the dentist after not going for over 5 years. Needless to say I was terrified. I've been mistreated by a dentist before and was very weary to go. Every single person made the experience so easy and comfortable for me. Lindsey at the front desk is amazing. And Dr. Zeller, my dentist, is so nice! Last dentist I went to repeatedly talked down to me about my teeth the whole time because I hadn't gone in a while and my teeth weren't in the best condition. But Dr. Zeller didn't make me feel bad or guilty about my teeth at all. Highly recommend this place to everyone, but especially those with fears of the dentist. read more

I was turned off by the selling of orthodontia services when all I went in for was a cleaning. I was turned off by the excessive number of X Rays that were taken. I've never seen that many taken. It was awkward, uncomfortable and an unpleasant experience. Lastly, Gentle Dental told me I had four cavities and gave me a cost estimate. I've never had a cavity in my life (I'm older) and the dentist I just changed to reported that I still had zero cavities. read more

After reading the mixed reviews, I was skeptical, but I needed to get in quick to get a crown on a broken tooth. They were able to get me in within 2 days of my call. I also scheduled my husband (who also cracked a tooth) and my daughter who had a cavity to be filled and was behind on cleaning. I was able to get my husband in on the same day, they moved things around so he could get his prep done. My daughter goes in on Friday... so I just got back and have to say that Denise the assistant as well as the lovely lady who took me back to my cubbie, were so polite. I read review that there was high turnover so I asked Denise how long she has been there... since 2000.... The dentist had also been there 10 years, so maybe I lucked out, but i am sticking with these folks. I was so thrilled that they were able to get all my 18 films of xrays done, a complete exam and the crown prep done....that doesn't happen, I was so thrilled... Also Denise and my dentist worked like a musical symphony, it's like they new what the other person was thinking... Overall, great experience, the shot was painless, the work done fast and I go back two weeks for the final crown... I will post further reviews after my husband and daughter get treated, but they were so acomadating I know it will be a 10!!! Melissa at the front desk was also helpful and I totally like the way they work with you. My flexible spending card didn't arrive and I called to say it will be here Saturday... no problem, just call when you get it... That just doesn't happen either... Way to Go!!! I have gone to this Gentle Dental for 23 years and they have always done a great job. Some years ago I changed primary dentists to Dr. Skovborg and I couldn't have a better dentist! She is always up beat, positive, and helpful. She always try's her hardest to go above and beyond..even if it's a problematic or reoccurring problem. Last Friday I had my 3rd procedure by oral surgeon, Dr Delgado. He and his assistants Valentina and Rhonda are AWESOME. They explain everything thoroughly, are professional and caring. Watching their teamwork instills me with confidence. Sherry who schedules my appointments and handles the financial end is also very nice and helpful.
