My experience with Gentle Dental was very disappointing. In my experience, the communication and customer service were unprofessional. I was not satisfied with the quality of the dental work I received, as it did not meet my expectations. It was also extremely difficult to get in touch with the office. I called multiple times to cancel an appointment, but my calls went to voicemail. I also sent text messages and emails, none of which received a response. Despite my attempts to cancel in advance through every contact method available to me, I was still charged a $40 missed appointment fee. When I later went to the office to request a copy of my records, I brought up the charge. Virginia offered to remove the fee but told me it would take a few weeks to process. I was also surprised to learn there was a $35 charge to obtain a copy of my dental records. Overall, my experience left me frustrated with the communication, billing, and service I received. Based on my personal experience, I would not return to this office and hope they improve their responsiveness and patient communication. read more

I came here for a cleaning a few months ago and on my first visit, the hygienist (Rey) ripped off my permanent retainers. I could feel him tugging & pulling on it & when I got home, the retainers were not glued to my 2 middle teeth anymore. I made an appointment to get them repaired. They told me that it would cost 1k to repair the retainers and if I get them glued, it would just come off anyways. Now why should I pay for something that they broke? Awful clinic for orthodontic work. Would not recommend. The orthodontist is only on-site a few times a month, which significantly slows down treatment compared to other offices. Appointments are routinely double- or triple-booked. Every visit involved extremely long waits--often an hour or more--despite having a scheduled time. Their payment handling is completely incompetent. They threatened to send me to collections even though I had consistent payments through OrthoBanc. I also made a lump-sum payment on September 4th and received confirmation that my balance was $0, yet they failed to stop automatic withdrawals afterward. To be fair, Dr. Amari herself is excellent--professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. She guided me through Invisalign successfully. The issue is entirely the office and its management, not the orthodontist. read more

Not any more. Dentists and hygienist are decent. Office staff are problematic. I was once left with no pain management after an extraction. I barely made it home. Their accounting system and record keeping also presented problems and wound up costing me more money for duplicate work. Tried to talk to Doctors but there seemed to be a barrier put up by office staff that made it difficult. This is an office that I'd been coming to for over 40 years. Then I would have given them a five star rating. Things have become a lot more problematic since many doctors and staff have retired or moved on. This is sad because I always felt safe and well served here. I guess nothing lasts forever. read more

If I have the chance to reverse all of Gentle Dental's work, I take it in a heartbeat. Years passed, and I have gone through multiple dentists as an adult. The treatment from my new dentists to this company is incomparable, and it is harrowing to think Gentle Dental took greed over my long-term benefit and health. After Gentle Dental's braces treatment, I had teeth and jaw problems that grew every year. There were unnecessary procedures for my non-impacted teeth that included removing four bicuspid teeth without a second opinion. After removing my braces, my teeth were still crooked, and I was still with an uneven bite. I trusted my dentist did the best work (defending against all criticism from my friends and family), and thought the slant was insignificant. After seeing multiple dentists and receiving better insight about my teeth, this is no longer the case. I wore my retainers consistently and showed off my new smile for the past nine years, but I am now embarrassed and disheartened. The way to correct some damage is to go through the procedure again. I requested Gentle Dental for my dental records to provide them to my new dentist. However, no records exist because they destroy them after some years. The only history that exists in their database is the dental payments. Upon reading through the payment plan, they charged my procedures to the maximum amount they could. "Your mouth is too small; we need to remove some teeth." "Your teeth are not growing properly; you need braces." They would suggest this repeatedly after every cleaning, and as a teenager, this made me very self-conscious about showing my teeth. The absurd part about this experience is that this saying is not the dentist but the hygenist. Not only was I pushed to take a crucial dental procedure but convinced to do so from a non-professional standpoint. My advice for anyone making a life-changing decision for their health or their child's health is to seek multiple recommendations from different dentists. No dental office should be treating their patients like an auto shop. read more

OUR ORTHO ORDEAL I've never written a flaming Yelp review before. But then I've never has such as bad experience with a doctor before. The doctor was an orthodontist at Gentle Dental in Milpitas. Here's a summary of the 6 pages of notes that I took: 1. NOT Gentle at all - lots of pain and discomfort 2. Dr. started treatment too early - all baby teeth 3. Dr. caused her own delays - miscalculations, poor planning & scheduling 4. Dr. and staff LIED to us 5 times - about procedures and scheduling 5. Dr. made mistakes ordering and installing the expander AND retainer -- both had to be re-ordered 6. Dr. and staff very unprofessional - lacked confidence, equipment broken 7. Terrible communications - no treatment plans, gave verbal instructions, ignored written feedback, cancelled appt with no warning The only good part of our experience was the technical staff. GREAT STAFF but BILING ISSUES and it's way too cold in there. It's important to note that EVERY staff member is so friendly! And EVERY person that worked on my teeth is knowledge and professional. Ray had such a way with his patients and I'm *truly thankful* that I had the opportunity to see him! But billing is such a critical element, and unfortunately, it's so alarming bad here, that it's enough to take a 5 star down to a zero star. Poor billing can mean you getting overcharged. What kind of business would leave you concerned about damaging your credit score over billing mess ups? EVERY visit came with billing errors that I had to address, so much confusion, and a lot of explaining, only for me to be right every time and I'm not the professional. Last time, we got a bill that appeared to be from headquarters noting that I owe $214.50 which is...coincidentally the SAME amount as my first payment...which was NOT accounted for on the bill. Seemed like an obvious resolution, but it turned out they billed the WRONG insurance (in addition to constantly noting my bill wrong every time). I've had dental insurance for over three decades and never had such issues. TEMPERATURE: Wirth noting is that it was freezing in there every single time. FREEZING. They tried explaining why, as if I've never been to a doctor or dentist before and would just accept why their office was colder than any other dentist I've ever been too in a lifetime of regular 6 month checkups. Update: I made such update as the staff from their office called me and argued with me during my working time. In my last visiting with this office, my appointment was 9 am and I waited in their office until 10 am and was noticed that my X-ray was lost. I needed to pay $75 on my own, or otherwise I needed to contact with their Hayward office to see if someone there can find my X-ray data. I got back home and checked with my insurance. Indeed I took X-ray at my first visiting and they charged my insurance. When I contacted with Hayward office, the staff said she had no access to my profile and refuse to provide my X-ray to me and hung up my phone. Later the McCarthy office said they can offer a free X-ray to stop me figuring out where my data is and who should be responsible for the patient data lost. But I deeply feel uncomfortable with gentle dental and decide to stop working with them. I feel so angry because: 1. As a patient, my data was lost and I was asked to pay for another one at the beginning; 2. I was asked to contact to another office to look for my data, which I have no idea where it is. And the staff there refused to find it for me; 3. After I planned to stop working with them and posted my last review, they still try to make me change the review and contact me with my information what I provided at the first visiting. I don't think patient information should be used in this way!!! I should say the front desk staffs are helpful and provided a few solutions. But I'm not satisfied with the way how they treat patients. *************** I was transferred from gentle dental Fremont due to Fremont was closed. I had a dental examination checkup this afternoon, Monday, June 17th, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. My dental exam was completed by Dr. Ma, who let me know that my lower left tooth was decaying. It was found to be infected, and it needs to be removed quickly before the infection spreads to my gums. I am aware that I made a wise decision to understand the condition of my teeth. Dr. Ma's honest and sound advice was a source of satisfaction for me. I visited a dental office owned by women in San Jose and was given a lot of information that I couldn't recall. I departed immediately because the women-owned dental office was not in Liberty Dental Network. I chose Gentle Dental because they were part of the Liberty Dental Network and I also checked their customer reviews on Yelp. Their assistance in making my decision with Gentle Dental was beneficial. Let me preface this by saying that the review is for an experience that happened years ago, but made so much of an impression on me that I am still incredibly angry when I think about it. My 1 year old at the time needed teeth cleaned because I had not known, as a young mom, that the sugar in breast milk can cause tooth decay if not brushed (I thought that only started with other liquids or solids), and my son had started getting teeth in at 3 months old. I felt like a horrible mother, and trusted what they told me, which was that he needed to be wrapped in something that prevented his arms from getting in the way, and held down for them to work. It was *incredibly* traumatic, and although luckily he was young enough that he doesn't remember it now, I sure as h*ll do. If he'd been just a little older I'm positive it would have left him with a lifetime phobia. I/we have now seen two other dentists (because we moved) who use the most gentle methods, one even has special flavored nitrous for the kiddos and movies above them to watch while they're being worked on. Both said they do this because it's incredibly important to allow kiddos to grow up with positive associations with dentists. I'm SO glad we switched, and will never, *ever* go to this place again. Oh, and to add insult to injury? They charged us EXTRA! For the "special handling" required, or something to that effect. If you're in a situation where that's what they're suggesting, my advice is run, and find yourself a good pediatric dentist who actually knows what they're doing with children. read more

Can I just say that I have never received better dental care in my life! I have been going to Gentle Dental McCarthy Ranch since 2007. I was driving to work and a filling fell out my mouth and onto my lap. I was new to the area and had no idea where to go. I took a chance on this operation and haven't looked back! Every visit, every cleaning, every exam has exceeded expectations. I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to tell all you Yelpers about it. Everybody at GDMR is an all-star. Shout out to Rey Carrasco, the hygienist I can always count on for a thorough cleaning and good pep talk on where I need to improve. Shout out to Dr. Ma for thorough exams and excellent care. I recently had some bad news which necessitated an extraction and an implant. Fortunately, GDMR has Dr. Hank Kashani on staff. There are no words to describe how competent and amazing this man is. Part 1 extraction: Dr. Kashani starts by emphasizing there will be no pain. Dr. Kashani's post surgical instructions and regimen prepared me for everything I needed to heal. Part 2 implant: This man has probably done thousands (tens, maybe!) of these and it shows. Never experiencing a procedure like this, I was quite nervous. The doctor and assistant were total pros and shepherded me through the procedure. No pain. I left in great shape and made it back to the office in time for my meeting! If you need an implant, you want Dr. Kashani! Finally, I want to give a special shout out to Becky who really keeps the office in order! This office is a well-oiled machine and Becky keeps on top of everything clerical. I really appreciate Becky helping me out with all paperwork and insurance stuff. I had to go in because my bite was off for new crowns done elsewhere. I was worried about numerous things and anxious about previous treatment and costs. I was treated well and every concern was addressed calmly and thoroughly and I again felt hopeful and under good care. The bite adjustment needed was recognized right away and corrected. I would stay away from this dentist. I had some work done recently and paid at the time of my appointment the agreed upon amount. Weeks later they send me a bill for about the same amount. I call several times, no one picks up. Finally I get someone and it is explained that they made a mistake in the estimate and it is actually DOUBLE what they originally quoted me. This is not an acceptable level of error when dealing with hundreds of dollars. The woman agrees to go back to my insurance company and will call me the next day. Nothing. I call back a few weeks later and someone else picks up and says that my call with be returned that afternoon. No one calls me back over a couple of days. Today I opened my mailbox and got a bill for that same amount. I would not recommend getting work done here because you can't trust their estimates and they won't answer their phones. read more

My family has been going to this office for quite some time even after leaving the Milpitas area. My 8 year old daughter was to get some routine treatment done by the pediatric dentist for a filling. My daughter has developed a fear of the dentist but the dentist and dental assistants did NOTHING to put my daughter at ease. My daughter is not a difficult child and just like any child she will cry when she feels like she is in harm. The dentists and dental assistants did nothing but constantly threaten my daughter for hours trying to get her to cooperate. Then they had the audacity to threaten my wife and I countless fees associated to the dentists feeling uneasy thinking my daughter would bite them or kick them. As parents, we tried to comfort our daughter as much as possible without interfering with the dentist and her work. Their solution to her continuous crying was to kick us (the parents) out into the waiting room so they can "get it over with". Needless to say, the dentists and her assistants eventually gave up and said my daughter was wasting her time and we had to reschedule. At the next scheduled appointment, before our name was even called in the waiting room, my daughter and I were immediately brought into the little office and asked to sign a waiver for $200 to tie my daughter down. I did not want to traumatize her even more than she was so I shot that down. They told me if she kicks and screams it will be more fees as well. Upon being seen, the dentist and assistants greeted my daughter with a snobby attitude and said "You're not going to waste my time again are you?" My 8 year old daughter started crying immediately after that. Then as they attempted to get the treatment done, they started yelling at my daughter which made her even more sad. My guess to rush through the appointment. As a self proclaimed pediatric dental office, I would think this office would be more understanding of how emotional children can be especially at a dentist. What they should have done is be more comforting and gentle to put my daughter at ease. Instead of being rude and yelling at her while she is in the chair. If you've read this entire review and have kids, do yourself a favor and don't bring them here. Save yourself the money, agony and ultimately a heartache. After this experience, I will be looking for a new dentist even for myself. BTW, Ray the hygienist is a different story. read more

Gentle Dental McCarthy Ranch is by far an incredible office all around. My family has all gone to see Dr. Ma and Rey. My son had such a great experience and my daughter. Dr. Ma is extremely patient and does outstanding work. My son and daughter needed fillings and their teeth look great. I needed a couple of crowns and I am extremely nervous and the assistant Angie was so patient and kind and the temporary's stayed on and I had no issues. I had all ceramic crown's done (I don't want metal) and I got them sooner than I expected and they looked so great and fit just like my own! Nancy (another wonderful assistant) is always so friendly and helpful with the family as well. Rey is great with all our cleanings and very thorough. I would definitely recommend this office and I have to my entire family. I just had a cap put on one of my teeth at Gentle Dental. It fit perfectly. Not only that, but the color of the cap also matched the color of my adjacent teeth exquisitely. I've been going to Gentle Dental for about 30 years (even before the practice changed its name to Gentle Dental) and have always been very satisfied with the work they do. In addition, I am somewhat of a germaphobe, so I appreciate all the things the staff and doctors do to minimize the transference of germs, like changing gloves when touching anything besides the instruments and my mouth. And, of course, all of this happens with the help of great staff --friendly, genuine, and well-trained. I highly recommend Gentle Dental for anyone's dental care and needs. read more

First and foremost the doctor and hygienist I saw were top notch. They were caring and if I had questions took the time to explain everything to me The reason I took away two stars was for a few reasons. The building is a bit older and during my cleaning I'm staring at water stains on the ceiling tiles. This is not a big deal but at a dentist when one is normally looking at the ceiling it seems these could be changed out for minimal cost. Next is I am use to having some type of glasses that is provided for the cleaning. This way one doesn't have to worry about water, etc flying up towards the eye area during the cleaning. This was not offered during my cleaning. Lastly, I did not like the fact that there is a computer screen showing al the names of the appointments and the cost of the services. I was able to find my name and see who was coming in and at what time. I would think that would be information that most would not want others to see. read more

I have been to this office since 2006. It has been almost 14 years now, nothing but gratitude. In the 14 years, Rey has been taking care my wife and me on cleaning. He is simply excellent on what he is doing, gentle and professional. In the last 14 years, both my wife and I had quite a few crowns and many filings done by Dr. Ma. He was super professional. I can not ask for a better doctor other than Dr. Ma. Every time I call the office, I always got a joyful and gentle greeting from Virginia, that always made my day. Above all, office manager Sonja is the nicest and kindest person I have ever met in my life, gentle voice, soft tone. In front of her, there is nothing that cannot melt away without filling your heart with joy and happiness. I was glad that I found a place which is close to my work I it's convenient for me. The place is nice and staffs are friendly and helpful. 2 stars for the location and their employees. The thing that pissed me off was they DO NOT know how to process paperwork and how to work with insurance. Usually they should verify my insurance before giving me an appointment. They did not! They gave me 2 appointments without verifying my insurance since they could not verify by my ssn (other places I went to I used my ssn for verification.) They needed my husband's ssn because he is the plan holder. Ok fine, went to my first appointment for check up. Everything was smooth and fast. They booked me for a cleaning and for my treatment on 2 different days. I was ok with that. So, when the lady booked me for my treatment, she said someone would call me later to explain about the benefits and co-payment. I was like urgh... You guys should have done that before you guys gave me an appointment for treatment, right? I asked for a treatment plan they said they did not have it there. When I left I called and asked for that treatment plan the lady who handled it said she could not email it to me, she could only fax it or mail it. WHAT?!? We are living in a high tech century now and you guys don't use emails? I called in again and another lady said she could email me. She was nice and quick. After reviewing my treatment paper I called back and the lady who handles it was with her customers so she couldn't talk to me. The paper showed that my insurance did not cover for my treatment and ladies there did not explain very clearly about it for me before they set me up for treatment. So my husband talked to the office manager and she was so rude, she talked to my husband as if he was stupid and did not know sh!t about insurance. When my husband asked the office manager to verify again she said it took 4 weeks for her to do that. We finally called our insurance and verified ourselves, finding out that the prices they gave us are a little bit higher than the prices we got from our insurance. And this morning I got a call at 10am from them to cancel my 1:30pm cleaning appointment for TODAY. I couldn't say how upset I am about this place. They charge you $50 if you cancel your appt in less than 48 hours. And now they cancel my appointment within 4 hours? Does that make sense at all? Gotta find another dental place now! read more

I was taking my kids to their regular dentist office ,but my children needed an extraction. They told me because of their age they needed to see a doctor that specialized in children's teeth. I called around places my insurance had coverage for "Cigna ppo" . I intially chose this office just from reviews on yelp and necessity of an appointment asap. It turned out to be a blessing. The front office is fantastic. Very polite and friendly. They helped me schedule an early appointment by squeezing us in.She heard the urgency in my voice and was very sweet in doing all she could to help my children be seen. Dr Gopal is who my children had their appointment with. She greeted me with a smile that never left her face. She was extremely patient with not only my nervous babies but with me. I am extremely over protective and a worry wort. She gave me wonderful advice and would advise me as what she would do with her children, if she was in my circumstance. She also told me she would do what I felt was right to do for my children and gave me time to make my stressful decisions without feeling rushed. She was very loving and sweet to my babies. They were in a new unfamiliar environment, but Dr. Gopal and all the staff made us all feel like we had been going there for years. Dr Gopal even sang multiple songs to soothe my babies! I was planning to send my 2nd boy here as well, but I now have doubt in regards to their billing practices so we will be switching him to my family dentistry. I've been going to a private dentist for years and never had to pay a dime for all my services, my dentist even waived deductibles. At Gentle Dental, I don't mind paying this deductible for sending my boy to a kid friendly dentistry, but I do mind when they bill me incorrectly. As a professional company, this business should know what insurance cover or not cover and not make excuses when someone do put the effort to figure out their own benefit coverage. Let say they charge you $100 for services performed because they said it's not covered by your insurance when it actually does cover. Then what happen? You won't know about it unless you call the insurance company. They pocket that money. Let say they charge you $100 for services performed because they said it's not covered by your insurance and they attempt to bill the insurance for those services? Double dip. You won't ever get your refund. I won't say they did or did not do this, but you should look at your bill carefully. I got back 50% $$ back. I recently encountered a dental emergency (at least to me) -- a very old filling came out and I was in major pain. The tooth was basically rotted under the filling, so it was nasty. I have dental insurance, but an currently unemployed, so the 10 to 50% co-pays are really difficult for me to deal with. However, I found dentist, who after looking at my tooth said I needed to have have a root canal, or more likely, have it extracted. She did neither in her office. She gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way. Sooo, back to the insurance list to try to find someone who could extract it for me and work with me on the co-pay. (Root canal was just out of the question with my current financial situation). I found a few to see me, but it would be 3-4 weeks before they could get me in. Did I mention that it hurt so bad I wanted to take a chain saw to the side of my face?? Well, Gentle Dental was on my insurance list. I called and made an appointment. They could see me right away. I then came to Yelp and read the reviews for some of the other local Gentle Dental offices. They have 1 star. Most people would give them negative stars. What on earth was I getting myself into. I called and canceled the appointment, making some lame excuse about my car. That lasted about two hours. Remember the chainsaw?? I called and set another appointment. I was surprised beyond belief. They were extremely professional. The doctor (Dr. Miller) was excellent. Both he and the staff went out of their way to make it affordable, to make sure I was comfortable and given great care. They even stayed late to treat me. At no point did I find any of the problems from the other Gentle Dentals appear. Oh, and the really good part?? I didn't need a root canal or to have it removed. They were able to clean it out and refill it!! I would recommend Dr. Miller and Milpitas Gentle Dental to anyone. Bravo! read more

Exceptional. I walked in with a broken tooth 7:30am - their day was completely booked. Doctor Elliott said that they'll do miracles here and took me in for x-rays and and they got me in to the actual repair at 11:30. Result...simply amazing.
