Another perfect appointment in the books with Dr.Miller!! Been seeing him for 8 years now and it's always perfection!! I used to see Dr.Ralston as well and they're like twins born years apart. For those who are in the "Piedmont Hill" club, Dr. Miller dose the Donald Duck voice too!! He will dance to the music on the Radio and crack jokes the whole time. Most gentle and down to earth Dentist on planet earth. He is ONLY in ONE Friday & ONE Saturday a month, so it's almost hard to get into him ( and that's why I always make my 6mo in advance) but is WORTH THE WAIT!!!!! I : DR MILLER IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!!! He will sometimes reschedule on you due to his Naval Schedule, that's right, he servers our country as well as a Captain ‍(oh captain my captain [yes he is a cutie]) However that's the government messing with you not him. He dose have another office on Campbell but they don't take my Ins. So that's why I go here. I wish I could find a medical doctor with the chair side manners like his!!! You JUST know he is having a great time, literately having fun while he's working on you. And the assistant even say his work is perfect. They jokingly complain about how long he takes lol, but agree it's worth the time because he's a perfectionist. It HAS to be great work! The front desk lady Nadine says she will ONLY see him as well, and she has pick of the Dentist in the office and she's going with Dr. Miller as well. That says a lot you know. Great place! Been hoping there for years. BUT! I only gave 3 stars because of the location as well... my truck got broken into on Friday 3/17/17 around 4 pm. This whole area has no surveillance cameras for the parking lot as I was told by the staff, even some of the staff members had their cars broken into. And from what the police told me is that the robbers know this and frequently come to this area. So if you go to this area or even Michaels, make sure you hide anything in your car/truck, I thought I was ok cause I have tinted windows but they still broke in and took my work bag... Other than that I've had no problem with the gentle dentle staff/service. read more

I have to start off by mentioning how excited I am to have found this place and could not have asked for better timing. I had been suffering from an excruciating toothache and being unable to eat anything or sleep for 2 days straight, I finally bit the bullet and decided to seek out a dentist to pull the tooth. For those unemployed and without insurance, you'd understand my reservations on that decision. I called to make an appointment, apparently it was a call center, but the woman Rosie was thorough in answering all my questions and helping out as much as possible regarding my financial situation. She made the earliest appointment possible, 8am the next morning. A pet peeve of mine is encountering employees who make it obvious they hate their jobs and pass that negative energy onto you, however, Gentle Dental McCarthy Ranch was far from that. At 8am, all the ladies up front had great attitudes and were incredibly polite. Paperwork was easy to fill out and they got me in promptly. Madeline who escorted me to my room and performed all my x-rays was a joy to converse with and made me feel at ease given the pain I was in. She was very thorough and even made the extra effort to confirm with another woman regarding my interest in the low cost plan. Rose, one of front desk women thoroughly explained the coastal dental plan to me and got me signed up and ready to go. After x-rays were completed, Dr. Edelman came in to administer my exam and after talking to me about what service I was seeking, took charge! Due to their extraction doctor being out for vacation for the next two weeks, he was determined to find me an oral surgeon to remove my tooth that day. All of the kind ladies up front got to work on calling every oral surgeon in the area to find one who not only could take me that day, but also accepted care credit. I can't thank all of the staff enough for going out of their way for me and am so looking forward to my next appointment with them. First...they have a call center that makes there appointments and it makes appointment before the office is open. They were not ready for me in my first appointment. Then I had to listen to the dental assistant complain about how I was there before hours. Dr. Ma was great (so i thought). I felt well taken care of and thought I was on my way to getting my broken tooth fixed. I made my next appointment and all set. Nope....5 days later got a call that the doctor doesn't want to work on me, only send me to a specialist. For a broken filling.....really. It took him 5 days to go through my chart and review my treatment. NO CARE....SKIP THIS OFFICE...ONLY CONCERN IS THE $$$, NOT PATIENTS. Horrible horrible place. Slow, bad services, lack professionalism, and costly. You can't get a copy of your own x-ray here. It's a picture of you, you pay for your x-ray to be taken, and yet you have to pay additional $26 for a copy of your x-ray. Not all offices have this fee because ethically speaking, * we paid for it already.. and it's an x-ray of me...How hard is it to send out an email of the electrical copy? This place is not for service and desire to help the patients or their neighbors. This place a for business and profit only. I've been going to Gentle Dental (seeing mainly Dr Potts, but also Dr Miller on occasion) for 5-6 years, and have always been very happy with it. The hygienists can be a little alarmist, but if it gets me to take better care of your teeth, hey, so be it. Today, though, I had some excellent service from them. Our insurance coverage is about to change. So when they found a cavity during my appointment and timing was an issue about when to get it filled - well, they squeezed me in immediately to get it taken care of. Always happy & outgoing. If money is an issue they have multiple payment options as well ( care credit, dental banc, insurance or out of pocket). Dr. Potts and Edelman are thorough in a treatment plan to maximize efficiency of the work being done. Cleaning? Ray is the best in the business. Kids? My son has Dr Liam and LOVES her. My first review ever written so it goes to show the it's well worth it. I moved to the area about two years ago so I'm quite new. I found Gentle Dental on Yelp and decided to give it a try due to all the positive reviews. I have two little boys that needed their first check-ups ever. The pedodontist was so gentle and welcoming, the kids were proud of going to the dentist! They are 3 and 5 years old so going to the dentist would be a strange experience but they did excellent! I'm really happy I've chosen Gentle Dental. I've had a few appts myself for general dentistry. All the dentist there are all awesome! Very caring, attentive, and experienced. I'm afraid of needles and getting numb isn't my best interest but the Dr's here are so good that before I knew it, I was numb. I would recommend this practice to everyone. read more

This place is a scam. Only there to weasel their way into making more money. They do not care about their patients, they do not explain anything to you and they can't even do their job right. Went in for a temp crown, waited over an hr from my appointment time. Once I was finally seated in the chair, I had to wait another 45min for them to figure out what they were doing and how it was getting paid for. A few of the dental assistants seem to not care about their job. One dental assistant just stuck a suction tube in the back of my throat and proceeded to stay off into space, even when the dentist was asking for her help. And if that wasn't enough, I came back today to get the permanent crown and somehow the post came out with the temporary crown?! Then they told me I would have to come back next week for a new post/ temporary crown and then come back another time for a permanent crown when I was supposed to have the permanent crown today?! Talk about one step forward and three steps back.. this place is super unprofessional, dirty, and all around bad experience. DO NOT COME HERE, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN HERE. AVOID IT I went for Root canal treatement for my kid . They informed the charges and first time they did not give the full estimate of costs. After asking twice I got the correct estimate. Dr. Edelman is a very experienced, competent Dentist with almost 40 years of experience. He is always up to speed on the latest techniques. He is truly a master practitioner of Dentistry, and I can recommend him without reservation. In addition to all the serious stuff, he has a marvelous sense of humor, and I always look forward to seeing him! This rating is way overdue, but here my story for an 1-star review: In December I had my bi-annual checkup and cleaning. One tooth was also aching and so Dr. Edelman took a picture and said I most likely needed a root canal and so I got a referral. After all the work that was already done by him I though he just was in it for the money. So I went for a second-opinion to my husbands dentist. Not only did he confirm that I didn't need a root canal, most importantly or unfortunately he stated that I had 6 (!!) cavities. Also one amalgam filling that he replaced with a white filling, still had some amalgam in it the new X-rays showed. You would say, how can you thrust this dentist? Well, he has camera equipment so the patient can actually lay there and see what's happening. And even patients without dental degree can spot a hole in ones tooth. How can it be that I just 3 days earlier laid in Dr. Edelmans chair and he didn't spot those!?!?! Also, for the kids, please go elsewhere! I took my daughter here once, they don't seem to appear to have any experience with kids. The assistant was not happy that she didn't want to lay in the chair. It was her first dentist visit and I was so proud that she opened her mouth for the checkup. The kids dentist I saw for 2 minutes who quickly looked into the mouth and then disappeared. Conclusion: I don't recommend anyone going there to see Dr. Edelman. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Edleman from about age 4 til about 20 years old when he was on Piedmont Road, he drilled huge fillings in my teeth and as an adult I had to have a lot of dental work done to correct his work. My dentist said the drilling was excessive. My parents also went to him and my mother had to get all her partials redone especially her front teeth which looked unnatural. I never liked his bedside manner as I found him rude which made me uncomfortable. Lastly, we were always charged sooo much! My dentist now works with my insurance and my out of pocket expenses are reasonable which I understand that dental insurance rarely covers 100% of anything. This bad experience made me scared of dentists and in my lil ol' opinion there are better dentists out there to consider. read more

Their billing is anything but Gentle. I've been shocked at how bad their billing department has treated me. A good reminder that regardless of how nice your dentist may be, you're still dealing with Gentle Dental, a giant company with 130 offices and big company billing practices in the end. There's no real patient relationship here. To say I'm so disappointed with them is an understatement. So be warned - I had high hopes but I'm never going to use Gentle Dental again. It's easy to have good experiences when there aren't any problems but the test of good customer service is when problems occur. If I want poor customer service and billing nightmares when things go wrong, I'll call up Comcast. But I don't expect this from my dentist. As for my story, Gentle Dental wants to schedule your next cleaning far in the future as many dentists do. No problem here. Since I didn't have an up-to-date calendar with me, I set a date months in the future as I've done many times with them, and requested they give me a call to remind me of the appointment a week ahead of time. Again, no big deal as they have an automated system that does so. Fast forward many months, and no call, no nothing, and suddenly I get a bill for $295 as a no-show fee. Surprised, I immediately called and left a message explaining my situation and again requesting a call. No call back. Next month, get another bill, give them another call. Rinse and repeat. What a nightmare. I still haven't been able to talk to anyone and I'm getting the message loud and clear from their repeated bills - we don't care; just pay up. read more

The office is clean and well-equipped. Dr. Liaw and the staff were friendly and professional. Our main complaint is the scheduling. Even though they claim to provide "pediatric densitry", their only pediatric dentist, Dr. Liaw, is really only there every other Thursday. It's probably fine for yearly check-ups that you can schedule ahead of time. But if you want to have any control over the day & time, you better schedule your appointment 2-3 month in advance. And if your child has a toothache or any kind of dental emergency, you are out of luck unless it happens on those rare days she's in the office. Otherwise you either have to follow her to one of the other Gentle Dental locations much further away, or take your child to another dentist he/she doesn't know. Either option is probably not something you want to deal with if you have a cranky child with a tooth problem on hand. So while our child had a great experience with Dr. Liaw, we probably will find another dentist for her next check-up, someone who is available on a more regular basis. read more

So after returning back to the office and preparing to start the hunt for a new dentist I was quickly reminded that I spent a week plus finding Dr. Ralston. I decided to reschedule. With in a day I was contacted by Sonja, the practice business manager, who listened to my recommendations for changes (ex calling patients if you have several emergency appointments arise). Moreover she went out of her way to try to make amends. Quite frankly not having a delay like this happen again would be enough but she made sure I felt like they really regretted the issue, which tells me the value their patients. If my next 6 month goes without issue I'll raise the rating another star. Because really Dr Ralston is awesome! read more

Without giving me any notice they changed the doctors on me TWICE About towards the end of my treatment i was suddenly informed by the third dentist that i would have to wear retainers everyday at night for the rest of my life. wow! That was news! Naturally i was concerned. What is this? And why am i being told now? So i asked if there would be an extra charge for that. Orthodontia being an expensive treatment an' all. I was informed that the cost would be included. Well guess what? Now its time for me to get my permanent retainers. And they are suddenly telling me that its an extra charge. Why is it obvious they r charging me just to get more money? Because they kept saying its because its with a new doctor. And its a diff set of retainers. When i said which of the two is it ? They hesitated and then mumbled "err both". It's besides the point that them charging me for it being a diff doctor is their fault. Not my decision to change dentists. Now does that sound like them trying to think up ways to charge extra ? And whatever happened to honoring your word. The mgr was boldfaced in telling me that i had to pay the extra $350 no matter what. Oh and btw, i talked to a top doctor in palo alto, he said he'd charge only $250 and give me 4 retainers. Please avoid. The whole purpose of this dental is to make money. The management only makes money. They charge for my daughter teeth cleaning even through it was not done. They told me that I have signed documents that tells it was done. The day I went to dental it was late by 45 min and after seeing doctor it took almost an hour. The they send me to a different nurse which was doing teeth cleaning. There again I need to wait since she was doing teeth cleaning for someone else. So I informed them that I will do it later. Unbelievably poor patient handling. I had four teeth to be filled and after filling the first two I had pain flossing one as if the tooth is coming out. I do understand that dentists make mistakes too but as I went to fill the other two and told about the pain, Dr. MA told me very indifferently that sometimes it happens that filling doesn't attach to tooth but instead of taking an image, he numbed the other side to continue new fillings. I insisted I want to check the tooth in pain and only then he took xray and said we should refill. Till here, let's say everybody can have mistake but then xray after refill showed gap and he just said if you have pain, come and we redo it again! :( I lost so much trust and wanted to have all xray images to switch to another dentist and Sonja the manager first said they don't provide hard copy since they digitalized their data bank. I had to call, go there and email many times over couple of weeks :-((( until she gave me xrays in thumbnail size!!! Long story short, very very unprofessional and they consumed lots of my time just to give me readable Xray images. Stay out of this place read more

I've been going to this Gentle Dental ever since they opened. I still go there even though I moved 25 minutes away. The people there are very friendly, professional, and accommodating. The office is clean and organized. I literally never had a bad experience. My dentist is Dr. Potts. He's an excellent dentist. He's very gentle when working on my teeth. He even somehow makes the shot of anesthetic feel okay. From fillings to crowns, I never had any problems. Another great is Dr. Kashani. He performed two gum grafts on me. My grafts healed quickly with no problems. I highly recommend this place. read more

After posting this, I received a call from the Office Manager at Gentle Dental McCarthy Ranch, expressing concern and offering to assist in remedying the situation. The Office Manager spoke with me at length regarding my experience during and after the visits, and spent considerable time strategizing solutions. She expressed apologies and was kind and professional. She seemed genuinely concerned and arranged to get a prescription of antibiotics called into my local pharmacy to deal with the immediate infection. Ultimately I was able to replace the crown at the Portland Gentle Dental location and have regained my trust and appreciation of Gentle Dental. read more

Been going to see Dr. Edelman for many years now, and I can honestly say that I haven't had anything but the best possible experience with him as my dentist. He's hilarious, he makes you feel comfortable, and his dental work is as close to flawless as it gets. He's done numerous fillings as well as a cap on my front tooth over five years ago that has lasted and blends in perfectly with the rest of my teeth. My experiences have been so great, in fact, that I took my boyfriend to see him when he chipped his front tooth in a work accident. BOOM. Again, flawless cap on his front tooth.
