We had a 10 year old dog named Maggie, she was the best and sweetest pup. She seemed to be in great shape, but had to take her to the emergency vet a couple of nights before Christmas. She had two tumors, one was very large and bleeding. We really had no options aside from either putting her through a lot of pain for maybe a couple of months at best. We decided to bring her home and have a good night and next day. We contacted GPP after getting several recommendations. They were able to schedule a time within the period we knew we had with Maggie, and Dr. Emily Howard came out to put her to sleep. Saying goodbye to Mags was so hard, heartbreaking really, but using this in home service and Dr. Howard to help us through it was a blessing. Dr. Emily was so respectful of our feelings, she was very quiet and sweet. She talked very briefly about what to expect at every step of the time she was there, and left the room a couple of times to give us time with Maggie. She checked her vital signs throughout, and after some time once Maggie had passed we helped Dr. Emily wrap Maggie in a soft blanket stretcher and carried her together. We chose to have Mags cremated privately and will sprinkle her ashes on our property. I didn't know what to expect when we made the appointment for our pet Sam. We knew we wanted Sam to have a calming and pleasant experience surrounding by us and his pet siblings. Dr. Emily arrived right on time and got to know us and Sam before everything started. Every step was explained and done with the utmost empathy. The sedation was administered and Dr. Emily left to allow us to begin our goodbyes. She came back in to administer the euthanasia. It was quick, calm, and peaceful. They partner with a cremation company which was very helpful. Cost was a little over $600 for everything including cremation which also included a clay paw print. I have no words to thank Dr. Emily Howard for helping us in such a difficult decision. Dr. Emily was the best in so many ways and was exactly the kind of vet we needed in such a hard moment. She transmitted calm and tranquility not only to the owner, but also the pet. She was so nice, compassionate and gentle with our dog, as if she was the owner. She fully understands what the owners are going through and does everything possible to avoid adding more stress or pain.Dr. Emily arrived early and was very nice, sweet and polite from the beginning. As requested, she did examine my dog to assess her condition and determine if euthanasia was the only option at that point. Once the final decision was made, she gave us a detailed explanation of the process. Due to the small size and conditions of my dog - in addition to concerns I had from previous experiences with other vets - she even started with an oral sedation to start the relaxation, prior to the first shot. She then continued with the normal process (2 shots) being very gentle at all times.Dr. Emily never rushed the process nor was in a hurry to finish and leave. She allowed for plenty of time for us, even to have a private moment with our dog to say goodbye and have a final moment.
