Was given Dr. Garcia's number from an urgent care Dr. was hesitant when saw reviews but my experience was great. The staff called a few time with reminder phone calls and were very helpful with all my questions . I asked approx how long a usually new patient appointment last and they said around 1.5 hours . I arrive 15 minutes before my appointment as asked to and paperwork and check in was easy. About 10 people in the waiting room and after my insaice and usual paperwork was complete I was back to see the assistants within 10 minutes . After having dilated eyes, i was sent to another room to let my eyes adjust. Waited about 5 minutes and was back to see Dr. Garcia . He was very warm and welcoming and very knowledgeable . Seeing the dr for a cut to my eye , i had a lot of questions . He spent extra time going over information i didn't understand and answered every question leaving me feeling very comfortable. Went to Dr. Garcia years ago for eyelid problem. After 2 attempts the lids are better but have major scars just above the eyelashes which I try to cover with make up but not as successful as I like. I would go back to discuss the results of the surgery but don't want to go through more work. read more

Horrible experience. I don't understand how one of the Drs does surgery and never follows up on the patient. It is another Optho that does the follow ups and the staff at the office are the ones that do all the work for them. All they do is go in the room for a minute or two and out the room they go. I agree with Bobby P., Jessica L., Jules B., and Denise G.~ don't go to this doctor! My husband was referred to this office by our insurance company for cataract removal surgery. We met with one of the associates in the Orange office. That experience was good so we decided to move forward with the surgery. On 5/1/14 we travelled to the Santa Ana office for the preoperative appointment. We arrived at the office at approximately 12:30 pm for a 1:00 pm appointment. Walked up to the front desk and signed in. There was no one at the front desk to greet us. There were 2 staff members sitting off to the side of the reception area having lunch but never acknowledged us. Finally I asked would we have to wait until 1:00 before someone helped us? I was told yes.. At 1:00 pm the office lights were turned on along with the television. The young lady at the front desk was pleasant and tried to be very helpful. To be fair, we were frustrated because we were unable to get a clear answer of how much of the surgery was our financial responsibility. So back to yesterday's appointment~once in the examination room! the person in charge of scheduling the surgeries entered the exam room. My husband expressed his frustration with not being able to obtain a straight answer of what our financial responsibility is, the additional fee for additional test. Naturally, this staff person became defensive. Of course she stated if we had called her, she might have been able to obtain information we needed. When I informed her I called her left her a message and never called me back. I also informed her I made a second call to her and I was informed by her who I needed to call to get answers which of course I still received no clear answers. The conversation continued and I felt we were on a merry-go-round so I stated "I was done with the nonsense. She then stated the doctor would be in shortly. Well, after waiting, here come Dr. Garcia. He entered the room and accused us of abusing his staff and it was going to stop. He is an arrogant bully. He was demeaning and very very rude. We weren't abusing his staff~we were direct and very frustrated. He spent more time "schooling" us then actually examine my husband's eyes. We left the office feeling very stunned on how rude this man was. The next day my husband called the office and cancelled the surgery. There is no way I would EVER trust this doctor performing surgery on my husband. Canceling the surgery with this doctor is the best decision we could have ever made. I've read the other reviews about this clinic and Dr. Garcia specifically. I take care of my aunt and take her to all her appointments. I was hesitant to come here because we left her old eye doctor for the same reason; runs his business like a money making machine and cares very little for the patients. The only difference is we were driving 45 minutes away for terrible care. I decided to take a chance and go to this clinic because it was closer. Luckily my aunt was seen by Dr. Laura Howard. I was very impressed with Dr. Howard. She took her time with my aunt was able to diagnose a different eye cream that took care of a problem that had been bothering her for years. Our experience with the staff was positive overall. We did wait a little too long in the waiting room, but nothing out of the ordinary. Very few doctors see you on time these days. read more

All his staff were very polite And even though my mom did not have an appointment they were able to assist her very quickly. I had an urgent request for an eye appointment. The staff was able to get me in the same day, which was unheard of. The staff runs this office like a well oiled machine. The wait time was less than ten minutes. The doctor took his time to explain to me what was going on in terms that I could understand. I've been going to Dr. Garcia for many years and had been happy, despite the LONG wait at every visit. Took minimum of 2 hours start to finish on average, if not longer. I started to get discouraged when the patients I referred would come back asking to be referred elsewhere. I decided to stick it out but my last few visits were disappointing. On one occasion when I got my confirmation call they stated my appointment would be with Dr. Kwok who is an optometrist. I was supposed to be getting my annual exam done but they said Dr. Garcia was out of the office and Dr. Kwok could do it. I refused (although I do LOVE Dr. Kwok, nothing against him) because I have a serious disease that can affect my eyes and I wanted to have an MD do my exam. They put me in with Dr. Howard who I waited a long time to see and she spent all of 3 minutes with me, did not answer my questions and did not tell me the status of my eyes. Very disappointed, though I hear she has moved on. Next visit I waited a long time in the waiting room. While I was waiting I was offered a vision exam with Dr. Kwok to check my vision (I wear glasses). I said I would do this ONLY if he had room in his schedule to see me and that it wouldn't delay my visit with Dr. Garcia. They said NO PROBLEM. My insurance does not cover this service so it makes me wonder if they just wanted my cash fee for this exam....I am taken back and wait FOREVER (like almost an hour) in the exam room waiting for him. I get my exam and prescription and am then taken to another room to do the Field of Vision test. If any of you have had this test you know it takes a long time, like 10 minutes per eye. I finish one eye and the MA came in, pushed a bunch of buttons, couldn't figure out how to work the machine so she went out for help. The next guy came in and told her she erased it all! So she wanted me to start over! At this point it's been well over 2 hours that I've been there. I refuse to restart the test as I had to go back to work. I said no, I want to see Dr. Garcia is he ready?? They put me in yet another room and he comes in to explain he can't really see me without me finishing the test. I said can't you examine my eyes? He said he'd have to dilate them (which no one warned me about) and I couldn't do that as I was late for work already. So he said he couldn't help me and to reschedule for either first appointment of the day or first one after lunch. So I wasted an entire afternoon for basically nothing. I had to return days later to see Dr. Garcia at another office. I last saw him in early December and it was a different experience, I was in and out in less than an hour. They seem to have hired new people and changed routines. It was much quicker but again, Dr. Garcia's only help was to tell me to hold a wet wash cloth on my eyes twice daily to help with my dry eye issues, he didn't even give me any eye drop samples. He gave me an advertisement where 2 eye drop types were circled and I have no idea which one I am supposed to buy. They now have an office manager (I tried to call and complain after my last visit but they said they didn't have an office manager, all complaints were to go to the doctor himself. Well I wasn't comfortable doing that so I didn't say anything. I think it's time to move on and try someone knew. I stopped referring ALL my patients here some time ago and I know they have got to have noticed that, for sure. I referred A LOT of people there, it's my job in fact. Disappointed but there's got to be a better managed office out there who has more to suggest that wash clothes and buy eye drops (who doesn't give samples anymore? Eye drops are expensive). When I find a new ophthalmologist, I'll be cancelling my upcoming appointment. Good luck, I'm afraid you need to take a harder look at why patients leave, why doctors leave, and why your patient referrals are down. He's a nice man but I can't deal with all the mistakes and spending half my day there, sometimes for nothing! Very sad. read more

Worst service ever!!!! Don't even bother wasting your time here.My mother sought out a new ophthalmologist and came across Dr. Garcia's office online as a spanish speaking doctor. She calls ahead of time to ask how much an eye exam was, she was told around $100 so she sets up an appointment. She arrives and is treated extremely rudely and cold by the staff there, is taken to a room to wait for the doctor and in the end ends up seeing another doctor that isn't Dr. Garcia.What was the point of even going there then?!! Before receiving treatment she gives the receptionist her insurance information. The doctor does the worst eye exam ever! She can barely understand what he says and then she is given no medicine for her eye problem and is simply told to make another appointment. She does, still under the impression that it was being covered by the insurance . Well a week later the day before her next appointment she gets a call from their office informing her that her services were not covered and that she now has to pay out of pocket for her eye exam.They need to inform customers of this verbally prior to receiving services. I have NEVER been told that my services were not going to be covered after the fact.They still had the nerve to continue calling the house asking if she would like to reschedule.Ridiculous.Once we got the bill it stated on there that they had charged the insurance double of the estimate I was told an eye exam would cost and then once it wasn't covered it was forwarded to me adjusted as a first time client.They even admitted to me over the phone that they charge insurance companies more because they will pay more than regular non-insured clients. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!!!!!! He needs to retrain his staff and fire a few.I took me 6 calls on different dates at different times to get a hold of someone in the billing department only to realize how useless they really are.You get the runaround from his staff when you ask for the billing department telling you they will be in the office at said time on said date only to find out when you call at that time on that date that they are not there.IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE NEGATIVE STARS I WOULD GIVE IT -5 STARS. read more

DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR!! I first saw Dr. Garcia when he was in the old building (now torn down) next to CHOC. The girl in the window was super nice and would take her time answering questions and doing her job. I liked my eye exam, I recommended at least 10 people, my parents, co-workers, husband, and even my children. He did what I thought was doing a decent job and since he's an ophthalmologist, I figured he would be quicker to identify and treat any real problems. The glasses place was connected to his office, I should have taken the hint when I last got my glasses there. They gave me their card to their new location and I was shocked that it wasn't with Dr. Garcia, I asked why and the nice man told me that Dr. Garcia was looking for something more modern/expensive. The big 180 came when he moved his office to this new building in Chapman. My first check up there was humiliating. I went with my child and husband as I scheduled all of our appointments at once. He said there was a minor issue with my eye pressure that we just needed to keep an eye on. I asked what the problem was or how I could improve-- and he acted annoyed by my question. Then he said he remembered I got a bachelor's degree so I might understand his explanation--WHAT? I didn't know patients needed an MD to understand a doctor's diagnosis. Then a medical assistant who before looked Hispanic--now looks wanna be white (super platinum blond hair, super packed skin lightening make up, and aqua blue eye contacts) came in to tell me I needed to tell my daughter to pack up her stuff because it made the waiting area look messy--per the office manager's request. I was shocked, my daughter is super timid and does not invade space even though she was 7 at the time. I went out to the waiting area and my husband was there reading a magazine. My daughter had a book and a notebook where she was taking notes (doing homework). I thought they had cleaned up before I got there so I asked my husband and he was shocked too. I asked the girl what the problem was and she said they didn't want my daughter doing homework there. My daughter shut her notebook and then just read her book while they continued to wait. We were there 3 hours, how can they expect people to not read or entertain themselves somehow for that long? I waited over 30 minutes for Dr. Garcia to return. In all, I saw him twice for about 3-5 minutes each time and waited over an hour to see him. Same thing for my daughter and husband, it was ridiculous. Since my daughter was the last to see him I told him that his staff was not very friendly and would not let my daughter work on her homework while she waited. He said it was a new office, new policies, and new office environment. Very egotistical, not friendly. He considers himself the eye god and provides poor service. Not family friendly and his staff is now horrible!!! I went back 2 more times thinking things would improve or maybe I was making too much of it---benefit of a doubt. This is one of those places where they just try to squeeze in as many patients as possible without giving enough attention to each patient, just to be able to collect the money. I arrived at my appointment time, the waiting room was full and I was seen almost an hour later. I went in for a contact fitting and I didn't bring my glasses prescription because I was not told to. Rather than the doctor performing all the eye tests or looking at my eyes AT ALL, I was sent to a waiting room while my glasses prescription got faxed over. Once it arrived, I was taken back into the exam room, asked a couple questions, and then the doctor wrote down a contact prescription based on the numbers on the glasses prescription. I told him that my previous contacts were higher than the new prescription he wrote down and that I would like to try the eye test with those amounts. He then put the machine in front of me to see if I could tell the difference between the two prescriptions---and I did, I was right that the one he wrote down would not work for me. Other than that, my eyes were not looked at at all. None of the usual routine tests. He said my trial lenses would arrive in a few days. It has now been about a month after that appointment and I have still not received my trial lenses. I have called twice and both times they "left a message for the doctor." My insurance only allows one contact fitting per year...such a mistake wasting it at this office. read more

Unfortunately, Dr. George Garcia must not have read this quote because he seems to have no idea that his patients are living beings who just might have information he may need to properly diagnosis them. Or that his patient may want to be let in on what is happening with their eye(s). On my numerous visits, he spoke to the staff in the room about me instead of speaking to me. He is annoyed when you ask him to explain a medical term he's just used to explain what's happening (he was also annoyed when he would have to repeat himself to his nurse who was taking notes). I have dealt with other egotisical doctors before because of their expertise (not that I should have to, but sometimes it's worth the end results). Dr. Garcia does not gather enough input before giving his output. His treatments are haphazard and ineffective because he does not base them on the gathering of knowledge for each specific situation. read more

Had surgery on both eyes for cataracts. The surgery and follow up were excellent. Wait times were minor. The staff is great and friendly. I spoke with many of his other patients and they feel as I do. I realize some people think that if they don't get immediate and special help, there is a problem. I assume they must not go to any family doctor, dentist, etc., as there you encounter the long wait times. I think people with negative comments are just the kind of people you can never satisfy, no matter what you do. They just write bad reviews because they were not treated special. My family doctor had nothing to say but good things about Dr Garcia and in fact heplans to have eye surgery by Dr Garcia as well. It's funny that one review suggested Dr Garcia ran his business like a money machine, yet still went to him. Guess what, you get what you pay for I would highly recommend Dr Garcia. read more
