George's Island is a great place even in the winter to see the beautiful eagles flying around and other wildlife in the water in and trees. Beautiful picture-perfect scenery with the majestic Hudson all around. Really is a Gem like many of the reviews state. read more

A gem of a park, especially weekdays, when its almost a private preserve. $10 without a County pass or $5 with a pass - prices per car. Boaters can launch for a fee. Groups must pre reserve. There are grill stations and picnic tables for groups Shaded sitting areas and a fantastic view of the Hudson await in the protected cove. As with most Westchester locations the "protected" Canadian goose poop is everywhere. read more

A jewel my boyfriend had discovered during the summer. There are few good 1 hr walking trials and two rest areas. The park also offer BBQ spots. A great weekend getaway place. read more

Lovely Hudson River park, located in a residential area in Westchester County. We were heading north from Long Island to Poughkeepsie for a hike across a pedestrian bridge, and because of the traffic and the weather we decided to change our plans and cut short our journey. But where to go? A AAA map showed this park directly on the river, so without any YELP reviews or recommendations we headed to Georges Island Park. It was a foggy, cold winter day so we were the only ones there, making it an exciting adventure to have the park to ourselves. There are BBQ grills, a boat launch, picnic tables, a baseball field, rocks to climb and hiking trails. All along the Hudson. I imagine it gets lots of use in good weather! Really a lovely spot for locals, and even tourists who want to be close to the river. read more

I often forget this park is even here because it is so nestled in the back of town. But either way, it has ample space for large groups or small ones just wanting to picnic and relax near the water. They have fields to play games, picnic tables, pavilions, boat launch and playgrounds. They do charge fees to get in during the season but its a nominal price if you stay a while and hang out. I love the views here too. Perfect spot for outdoor parties in the spring and summer! read more

I seriously adore this island…read more Small parking area off the main road and its legit in such a random spot that it gets very little traffic which i really appreciate. You walk along the inlet and up a hill, eventually you will on top of the 'mountain' that is also the metro north train tunnel. You can go around one of the fences and sit directly above the tunnel but we aware-- there is no additional fence before the drop. And if you drop..well, um. You dead. But otherwise its super cool to watch the train approach and feel it rumble underneath you. Going along a little further up the trail you will come to an outcropping of an old foundation and what is left of a fireplace and chimney. I believe this was one of the guest houses or the daughter homes belonging to the McAndrew's estate that is directly opposite the island. (That is another great hike with lots of ruins including an old race track, ice house and some old foundations.) Eventually you will start downhill and get to the waterfront which is gorgeous and has a great view of Haverstraw. It's a rocky area but can be traversed with slight caution, in order to skip rocks or fish or even hang out in the water. There's a beat up picnic table or two and some benches around in case you feel like packing a picnic. Please be sure to pick up after yourself though and keep the preserve clean for all! Cans are usually by the exit. No bathrooms either so be one with the call of nature.

Very kids/toddler-friendly. The sizeable shallow end has several sprinklers/splash fountains for children to play in, and there are slides on both the kiddie and adult sides. Also a playground in the back (not affiliated with the pool). There are always many life guards on duty every time I've gone. The pool is accessible only to Clarkstown residents and their guests, so if you're not a resident befriend someone who is. You must obtain a Clarkstown resident ID card first at the registration office at 31 Zukor Road in New City. (The pool won't simply accept a driver's license.) Rates can be either daily or seasonal for individuals or family, and are very reasonable compared to similar community pools.

It's no exaggeration that these monsters from the deep probably kept a legion of child psychiatrists in full time employment. On a recent visit it was nice to see that the previous snake-ridden den of iniquity has long been been replaced with a legitimate pool and that the mythological beasts of years past have been slayed by chlorine and actual cement walls. You can even see right to the bottom. What a concept. This is what Nanuet Lake should have been like all along... no thanks whatsoever to my parents who thought this was some tough love version of Shangri La, albeit minus the all consuming bliss one often finds in paradise. I kid about my parents (almost) and am happy to bestow five easy stars for a childhood reclaimed. I still hate snakes.
