I have traveled from the Bronx to this bus station several times to go to NJ since I've had some family move near GSP mall. It's easy to get to and lots of transportation methods nearby. It's always clean esp the restrooms. I took away 1 star bc there needs to be an atm on the upper level due to the jitney van only accepting cash. I had to go all the way down to the small bodega inside on the lower level to take cash out. Also, the staff isn't always friendly and helpful. They seem annoyed whenever you ask a question. Took the 171 bus back to NY from Jersey. It drops you off at gate 12. A short trip down 2 escalators and across a tunnel and you're at the A train. They've added some great shops to this station, a market, snack spots, clean bathrooms. It's looking good! I checked out Marshall's while I was there since it was connected through a downstairs door. Very convenient. Now a straight shot to meet the L train and that's a wrap on today's travels. read more

The station has undergone a renovation where they added new stores and upgraded the terminal. Unfortunately some of the changes have slowed down the time it takes to reach the busses on the upper level. They eliminated the escalators and instead replaced them with a single elevator that can only fit about ten people at a time. This creates more congestion that can make it dangerous during the coronavirus pandemic. Once upstairs you can find retail shops like Marshall's and digital kiosks where you can purchase tickets. The maps and digital tv screens make it easy to find your bus. You can also download their app and purchase your tickets ahead of time. The passenger waiting area has heating and air conditioning inside to protect you from the elements. The A train is located on the lower level giving you easy access to the MTA. read more

Super convenient location uptown for those of us staying in manhattan and the Bronx. Lots of bus connections, and the A train is nearby. It's really clean and well maintained, the staff was also friendly about pointing the way. It also looks like there are a few stores to shop at if you have to wait a while and a rite-aid and Citibank closeby. I hope a convenience store sets up shop directly inside the terminal to serve the travelers soon! read more

This bus station was renovated not too long ago and has two stories. Most buses leave from the second floor. However the greyhound to Hartford, CT and Boston leaves from across the street on 178 and Ft. Washington. There's not much security at the Broadway entrance but sometimes there is a worker in the well-lit lobby at the Ft. Washington entrance. The second floor waiting area pretty nice and clean, and the bathrooms up there are well-kept. However I am typically waiting for the Boston bus which leaves from downstairs and doesn't have a waiting area. There are no shops/food options inside the station itself (unlike most bus stops), however there are many options for a quick snack or drink within a few blocks, like Starbucks, McDonalds or Dunkin' Donuts. read more

This is my 500th review. Yeah for me. I did not know what to write about for my 500th review. Write something about my new hood Cliffside Park or North Jersey. How about a review about a place in my old neighborhood Astoria. A place I fell in love with. I decided on George Washington Bridge Bus Station. Yes that is right George Washington Bridge Bus Station. Let me start by saying that at one time this place was a cesspool. I mean I have walked through some bad parts of town and George Washington Bridge Bus Station was up there. New York and New Jersey got their act together and finally renovated this building. I feel safe. That is the bottom line. Before the renovation it was one scary place. Now, you take an elevator to the top floor where all the buses depart. There are monitors which show what bus leaves from what gate. I felt comfortable waiting for my bus. I saw enough security through cameras, cops, etc. While my 500th review is not a glamorous review. I feel the authorities who run this facility should be recognize. They have done a good job here. Easy to find the "right bus" and like I said very, very safe. Which is the most important thing in my book. read more

If you can actually get your bus here, it's awesome. There's an indoor path from the 175th A subway station to get here, it looks nice here and you can buy bus passes via machines that take credit cards. Gates are well sheltered and though it was raining, I didn't get drenched waiting on the bus. I just found that the bus I needed didn't arrive at the scheduled time and no mention was made of a delay. But if you had to get a bus, this is definitely a nicer locale than Port Authority and probably less crowded overall. read more

it's a pretty small bus terminal compare to the biggest bus terminal 42 street and 8 avenue it has more boarding/arrivial gates . The one in midtown has Greyhound ,Mega bus, NJ transit, etc buses at the Port Authority bus terminal , This bus terminal at George Washington Bridge its pretty small there have few bus companies at this station- terminal and less boarding /arrivals gates. I want thank the short Hispanic - Greyhound bus driver on December 22,2020 departure time for 3:00 p.m. for bringing the bus back at the gate ,it was all most all ready to depart . I all most missed my bus and the driver bought the bus back at the gate (bus driver like him makes me want ride greyhound again and again ) greyhound need to give him a raised !!!!!, the bus station is very nice and modern compare to the bus terminal at 42 street and 8 avenue. ( the greyhound ticket counter was closed , so if i missed my bus i would have been screwed , there need a ticket representative to make sure passengers board the bus or someone to talk if you missed you're bus , or if passengers who are there to supposed talk to at the bus terminal wall, lol) P.S. This is one of the cleanest bus stations I've ever been to. I am honestly shocked that is so clean. Everyone I interacted with at the station was very helpful. I purchased the wrong day for the ticket and the bus driver came out to walk me to the ticket booth to help me out (Gray Hound). The only thing that can be an issue is hearing what the ticket booth person says, I don't know if the person assisting me didn't have her mic on but it was very difficult to hear her talk. The bathroom (male) was also very clean and well taken care of. This might be my be bus stop for future trips. read more

We stopped in this bus station to take the unmarked "Spanish/Gypsy" buses that took us across the George Washington Bridge over to Fort Lee. Service was prompt; and the fares were really cheap. Can't really complain! read more

This is a 'gets the job done' sort of place. There's nothing special about it, but your buses will take you where they are supposed when they are supposed to. But do check out the mall right underneath, it's surprisingly nice for something literally underneath a million tons of cars and concrete. read more

I was here last summer. The bus terminal is convenient​ for commuters from the ​Bronx and Harlem. There are two dozen platforms for buses to stop on. There are three ways to enter: the elevator, stairs, or escalator​. It is connected directly to the George Washington Bridge for convenience​. There​ is a ticket office as in order to board, one needs to purchase​ a ticket as proof of purchase​ to reduce boarding times. I find that the terminal is not as busy​ as the Port Authority Bus Terminal as the NJ Transit bus routes don't operate as frequent as the ones in Midtown. read more

Why do I always do this. When Port Authority has significant delays, I take the rise uptown hoping and praying that I just didn't waste more time trekking up to wait somemore. But thats what always ends up happening. The only good part, at least I'm standing outside, and not inside in a hot bus terminal. For the past 5 yrs they have been "under renovation," a project that feels like it will never be completed. The "Papi Buses" have now contracted with the bus station, so prices have gone up. It was hard to find the entrance (hint: it's directly under the bridge and out of sight). The station is spacious and has a decent waiting area. When we and many others lined up to board the 175 on the morning of January 1 the driver opened the door just to yell at us that we were too early because they are running on a Sunday schedule. Well, he was wrong. According to the MTA and NJ Transit, even Google Maps got this one right: busses were meant to be running on a HOLIDAY schedule - hence the time for which we all arrived. Bus Station George Washington Bridge otherwise known as the 179th Street Terminal serves a very important purpose for Manhattan commuters who live in northern New Jersey. The building is fairly well maintained with few amenity's, this is a place you just pass through not a destination, as you transfer from inbound buses to the MTA that allows access to all of the Five Boroughs. This area of Washington Heights is no bargain, the Bus Station is like a magnet for chicken heads and what look like zombies approaching with hands outstretched asking for a dollar in the late evenings. Had to rent a car to leave town for a few hours so that I can drive a friend of mines and myself to go shopping. Scouted around some prices in New York and omg it was just an arm and a leg just to rent a car on a sunday. Decided to rent a car in Fort lee nj but the only catch was... how am I suppose to get across that bridge. I could walk but by the time I walk across it, I would be too tired. So here comes to the Mexican buses come to play. They are cheap, no frills, run frequently and gets you to point a to point b in a timely matter. Once you get off the A train at 175th... exit the train at the front of the car and walk up the ramp. Take a right and don't go up the escalators. You will see the 16 seater vans. Bearing no traffic, in 8 minutes you will be in Fort Lee. They take you anywhere along route 4, paterson, leonia, Fort lee, journal square etc.... I endorse this. read more

This place is kind of depressing but it gets you where you need to go - given that it is between certain hours. I have been stuck outside in the freezing cold on a few nights because when they closed.. the whole building is closed :( locked, fenced, etc. Thankfully, there are cabs right outside and will gladly take you where you need to go. read more

This is a nice clean bus station, but the maintenance lady is so disrespectful. She literally looks through the crack of the bathroom door to see what you're doing. She is so rude. I understand she needs to keep the bathroom clean, but people need their privacy while using the restroom. read more

Avoid having to use Ameribus as a commuter option to NJ if at all possible. This company makes the MTA look like they have their act together. For the umpteenth time, I was screwed by this company's inability to keep their schedules up to date. Usually, I end up waiting a half hour to an hour to leave NJ to go back to NYC, because the time on their website (the ONLY place I can find a schedule), is wrong. When I called last time, I was told they don't have anyone who can update the site (the 'new' schedule was 3 months old!). I was also promised a new schedule via email (the drivers do NOT carry paper copies) but, that never came. This morning however, not only was the time listed for NYC to NY incorrect, the schedule shows that the bus goes to Rockleigh which, in fact, it does NOT. The driver took my full fare to Rockleigh though! Turns out, it's last stop is now 2 towns away (a good hour walk or $18 taxi due to there being no uber or lyft drivers available at that early hour). I am not sure how a bus company can operate with profit if they cut out all the people who are not friends with the bus drivers, or don't take the bus every day and thus, aren't given the benefit of knowing of schedule changes. Unfortunately, this bus line is only 1 of 2 that can get me to Rockleigh NJ from NYC. Ameribus drops me off in my office park but it's useless when it's unreliable. Rockland Coaches is my recommendation! it's a long walk from my office but at least they are reliable and I can try to revive my hitchhiking skills. read more

They might have fix it up pretty and brand new but the buses still do not come on time. The drivers, cashiers, bathroom attendant and the male at the kiosk (comedian) are very friendly and helpful. After being remodeled for almost 2 years still no inside vendors. Signs have been up on some of the store windows advertising coming business but they haven't even started work on them. You can't even get a quick coffee or something to eat within the terminal. How much revenue money is being lost to no tenants paying rent? Yet the Port Authority is always crying no money, poor management! Doesn't make sense. read more

This was my first visit to the newly reconstructed George Washington Bridge Port Authority Bus Terminal. The visual is bright and clean. There is a Marshalls store tucked in the back for some reason. It is the most random of designs and choices. Otherwise the layout is simple. There is a large waiting area where you can see just about every gate in the terminal. Buses park headfirst into their spots while people then go out the door and line up. It's a smaller station with less traffic then the one on 41st Street and not as chaotic. read more

Great station with good amenities, but the Greyhound service from here is VERY UNRELIABLE. Both times I've used Greyhound from here I've been delayed TWO HOURS and had a bus cancelled halfway from here to Boston because the driver ran out of hours. If you're riding NJ Transit or the spanish vans and you live in the Bronx or upper Manhattan, this station is great for you. If you're looking to ride Greyhound, don't. Go to the Port Authority on 42nd Street, or just avoid Greyhound completely and get a Peter Pan bus from Port Authority or a Megabus from Hudson Yards. Even the Chinatown buses will treat you better than getting a Greyhound from GWB. read more

The George Washington Bridge Bus Station looks nice after the renovation. It got new escalators that replaced the Otis escalators that had stainless steel steps. Marshall's took on the main floor. The pedestrian tunnel, that leads to the subway station, is still intact. read more

Compared to Port Authority, this bus station was actually a lot cleaner. And I liked how it was easier to navigate around a bit rather than having a load of people walking around. The only thing I really wished as that there were more things inside the station. Or at least some seats outside as well. read more

Alright, I had to get to Fort Lee without a car for the first time recently and I felt like I should give an update on the guide in the earlier review for anyone who has to navigate it for the first time as well. The 16 passenger buses no longer pick up anyone on the lower level. All buses pick up passengers on the 2nd floor of the terminal. So go straight up the stairs to the second floor. No need to buy a ticket if you plan to take the express buses. For $2 in cash or change they'll ferry you across the bridge to the stop right below Lemoine Ave in Fort Lee. I believe it's more for further distances but didn't have to go that far so not sure. 3 star rating for the express bus as I told both the dispatcher and the bus driver I was trying to get to Fort Lee and for some reason they kept referring me to go to the NJTRANSIT buses that run very 40 minutes. Eventually I got on the express bus and got to Fort Lee. The previous review is correct that there is one that leaves every few minutes so there's no worry on missing one and having to wait 30-40 minutes for the next one. The bus station/terminal itself is a little run down. Appears to be under construction. Note there's a waiting room on the ground level with ticket machines for the NJTRANSIT buses that's indoors but the second level, while covered, is primarily outdoors and exposed to the elements. read more

The terminal is worse after its renovations than it was 3 years ago before the alleged "improvements" got underway. There is less seating than before, more congestion, no closed circuit cameras to see when one's bus has arrived, greatly reduced bathroom facilities (at least for men), and so on ad nauseam. Even the appalling crooks who run the Port Authority should be ashamed of what they have done. read more

This place is probably what hell looks and feels like. This is a crumbling and run down excuse for a bus terminal. It's overriden with homeless people, trash, and pigeons. It says it's "under construction", but I think they're just saying that to cover up this hot mess of a terminal. And it's EXTREMELY hot here, the only thing to cool you off is a huge fan, which lo and behold, is taken over by the homeless. read more

this station is convenient when coming from NJ for you can get the subway at this station to go downtown NYC. Some of the problems for myself with a walking disability is that the elevator down from the street to the subway does not work and has never worked in the past 3 years. The phones for help or assistance do not work either, And the subway area is a long walk down. I have never seen a NYPD in there either. I think they are afraid. This is NYC at its best: meaning a great amenity to get you somewhere but very poorly attended to. read more

yes this bus terminal located in the beautiful(not really) washington heights part of manhattan is conviented for folks who live and work in the area or nearby jersey but this place needs better customer service and much better security . the place is being renovated and the designs looks really nice but this project is taking forever to be completed which is nothing new with any nyc construction , plenty of delays and overcost. now while it's being built a temp entrance and ticket/ waiting area is located on 179th st and it's a real dump. a bunch of homeless folks are roaming around and the one ticket window has very unhelpful people working who if you ask a question about an incoming bus arrival time they just seem to ignore you and continue to text away. i did get an answer from a p.a cop and walked up the long stairs and was wondering how can the elderly or disabled people make it up the stairs without any problems. upstairs the signage for the bus are not really easy to follow and no port authority worker is around to ask for help. i just hope when the new bus terminal is up and running that they consider the passengers first and hire folks who do. overall a good option public transit wise over the gw bridge to manhattan and jersey. read more

I rode the bus from the 175th street station to Fort Lee (right over the bridge) and it was fantastic. It costs only $1.75 and takes you directly over the bridge. Really convenient. I waited only 2-3 minutes for the bus and the A train runs at 175th street station. read more
