Short version: NJ Transit Asbury Park station may not be the most up to date facility, but it gets…read morethe job done. It gives all the basics needed for train travel, but could use an update hopefully in the future. Definitely not bad, it handles its purpose well for the most part. The Deets: I spend quite a few weekends in Asbury Park now. Two of main ways to get there besides driving from "the city" is either by ferry or train, and of course the NJ Transit train is both less expensive of the two and gets you right to the center of town. This part brings me to the subject of my review today, the NJ Transit Asbury Park station. Mainly, it does the job and is adequate. Yes, it may be a bit dated (OK quite a bit dated) and not in that old classic nostalgic type of way. But it has a pretty spacious waiting area inside where you can shelter from the cold/heat, a dedicated ticket office, bathrooms, etc. It even has a little snack area available when open, which is a modest simple little corner you can order and get refreshments while you wait on your train. The station seems to have limited hours for accessing the inside on weekends, just a heads up on that one. The AP station is not bad however it definitely could do with a facelift and some TLC, but it handles a customer's needs adequately. The AC to NY leg was never very reliable. But service decayed materially over time. They were constantly late to the point that it was almost NEVER on time. I mean EVER. In NY, there's a big ticket office, so you used to be able to go in and ask WTF was going on. Sometimes, they actually knew. In recent years, the line seems to have just about collapsed. You can't call any number to find out the status of your grossly delayed bus and there are very few places where there are humans at your departure location. Call the 800 number? Can't (actually won't) help you. Don't know anything. It's as if they think you are stupid. It's pretty obvious that they know where every one of their buses are just due to GPS technology. If a valuable bus went missing I promise you they'd know exactly where to find it. It's also common sense to know with absolute certainty that every depot from which buses are dispatched have telephones and actual "dispatchers". Forget about that track my bus tech they have on their site. it will NEVER help you find out why your bus is late or when it will arrive from the point of origin. EVER. Finding out where a one hour late bus is should not be a problem AT ALL. There should be a way to make an 800 call to someone who could call a depot and speak to a dispatcher. BUT NO..... And let's not forget about the condition of the buses. Seats frequently broken. Buses typically filthy. Drivers commonly angry and harsh. I've come to conclude that Greyhound views their typical passenger as lower class powerless people who can't do anything to harm them. And with all the degraded service - fewer buses scheduled included - they nearly doubled the price!!!!! I've found using the government run NJ Transit buses far more satisfying. They are clean and not broken. The WiFi actually works, unlike GH which is hit or miss - mostly miss. They are mostly on time and get you there more reliably even with a stop or two. if they are late, you can find out why and when to expect arrival. they are cheaper. They have a senior discount. I suspect this is what happens when elected officials who are answerable to the people run the line. Unless aggravation and being treated as a subhuman is your bag, stay the heck away from GH. It's a wonder they are still in business.

This is one reason Atlantic City is so desolate and lacking revenue. This terminal is full of…read morepanhandlers, homeless, you can't get in the doors without fighting your way through them. It has good signage and the restrooms are always filthy yet there is always someone there with a cleaning cart. The cleaner is friendly but obviously does not know how to clean. The security guard is always facing away from the door, where their job is to stop non ticketed people from entering. The movement director on the bus area does a great job of keeping things moving and bus departures on time. If you are going to get on a bas that does not have bathrooms the New Jersey Transit bus stations should have clean safe bathrooms! I couldn't hold my breath long enough to take a photo of the restroom. The cleaning person, everyone one of them are nice people but there is no oversight or management.

It's always clean esp the restrooms. I took away 1 star bc there needs to be an atm on the upper level due to the jitney van only accepting cash. I had to go all the way down to the small bodega inside on the lower level to take cash out. Also, the staff isn't always friendly and helpful. They seem annoyed whenever you ask a question. Otherwise, quick and easy way to get to NJ, very reliable also

They've added some great shops to this station, a market, snack spots, clean bathrooms. It's looking good! I checked out Marshall's while I was there since it was connected through a downstairs door. Very convenient. Now a straight shot to meet the L train and that's a wrap on today's travels.

I am always so happy to see historical buildings saved, especially when it comes to trains. The demolition of NYC's Penn Station for Madison Square Garden is a travesty that hurts my heart so I appreciate that this station, which was once a station for the Pennsylvania Railroad, is still in tact. However, the station is showing some wear and tear and would benefit from a facelift. With Philly hosting FIFA World Class Soccer, the MLB All Star games and other events for America's 250th, I thought maybe there would be some renovations to the station. Unfortunately, the food court is closed so the only options for food and drinks are Dunkin Donuts and a newspaper stand. There is an ongoing renovation but I can't tell exactly what has been done. i will say, it was nice to see the station from about a block away - the exterior is lovely. The trains all board under the station so it's convenient that you don't have to walk too far to get on your train like you would at a stub-end station. For those needing assistance, Amtrak offers a "Red Cap" service. Getting down the escalators and down the platform can be a bit of survival of the fittest so asking for help will get you escorted down the elevator to your train car without battling the masses. Red Cap will also take care of your bags. The waiting room is large as are the bathrooms. They also have some nice exhibits about the station and its artwork. I'm looking forward to returning to see how the renovations turned out. I am hoping that the food court will reopen and maybe even offer some local eateries.

My favorite is Brooklyn Deli. I love the convenience of tap to pay. You dont need a card. You tap once when you enter. Unlike DC transit system. Tbh I feel safer using the subway here than in my area. However be alert and watch your surroundings. Watch out for scam artists, and guard your belongings.

As soon as the train began moving the two chatty attendants checked everyone's tickets by hand since the scanners are not operable yet. One gender neutral bathroom on the train and everything was metal with a sign above the sink that said,"Do not drink the water". The train car was clean except for a few pieces of gum burrowed into the seat cushions. The armrests made me nervous. This was not one of those elite modern fast trains. The 1.4 hour ride was painless. No surprises either and was eerie silent except for me lol.

Daily parking only on the top two floors. It's not very ideal. I've heard of incidents of people's cars getting broken into or vandalized because it's wide open for all to see. The waiting area is nice and clean and so are the bathrooms. It's also a nice alternative to getting to New Brunswick and waiting for the train (trips to New York from East Brunswick take approximately 50 minutes). No weekend service here though. For that you have to drive an additional 5 minutes to Tower Center.
