I was so happy to find such a great selection of veggie seedlings to choose from to start my garden. A HUGE variety of tomatoes and lots of hot peppers I hadn't see anywhere else. They have 6 packs of veggie starters - where as other places have moved to just selling singles. I prefer the multi pack so was happy to find such a great selection. Also lots of flowers and hanging baskets that were absolutely beautiful. The store has lots of gardening supplies and decorations. Bird baths, gnomes, chimes, trellises, you name it! I had lots of fun shopping and planning my veggie garden. There are also large greenhouses to wander through. Very nice employees as well. Great experience all around. read more

I love nature, so a nursery, especially a family-run local nursery, gets extra love from me. We discovered George's only in the last year or so, but this place has become one of our go-to nurseries for trees and plants. George's has an impressive variety of plants, and their prices are competitive for the most part. It's also worth mentioning the greenhouses across the parking lot, where they keep loads of annual plants/flowers for sale starting in the spring. There's limited parking but somehow we've never not found a spot here. As far as i know they have a hard no 'refund/return' policy, which is important to keep in mind. Long live George's. read more

We got our Christmas Tree from here this year. The trees seemed fresh with not too many needles falling off and the smell of pine in the air. We got a 7ft tree for $95. A fair price in this market. They made a fresh cut bundled it and put it on our car. The gift shop had lots of fun things to look at this time of year including ornaments, gift items and baked goods. We bought some fudge and a pumpkin pecan cookie. They still stock some of their year round nursery items too. read more

Whether I'm shopping for myself or a present for someone else, George's has anything I could want! Plants, decor, baked goods and more! Both handmade Christmas wreaths (pictured) were customized to my exact request! They were so fresh and lasted me well past December - I finally took down the American flag one in March of this year when I was getting some looks from our neighbors LOL. I have also enjoyed their succulents, pots, decorations, and apple cider donuts for the past eight years (my review is long over do) and plan to continue shopping at George's for all my years to come! If their products weren't enough to convince you, just meet the people who work there. The business is owned by the absolute nicest family you will ever meet. Every year I take my annual pilgrimage to George's, my favorite Capital Region holiday nursery, to pick up some festive evergreen flair. It's come to be a top ten annual activity/tradition for me, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Sure, George's is open pretty much all year round for your home and garden needs, but a little something special happens around the holidays that turns George's into a winter wonderland, and for that I'm thankful. Robust rows of Christmas trees of all shapes, sizes, and needles line the walkways outside the main entrance, enough wreaths for every front door in the Capital Region, fully decorated Christmas trees adorned with bright lights and shiny ornaments just oozing inspiration, and ribbon - ribbon everywhere! On a scale of 1-to-Buddy the Elf, my enthusiasm for holiday decorating falls somewhere between Charlie Brown and Clark Griswold. Maybe I haven't really had the opportunity to hit my stride yet in the holiday decorating department, but one thing I do deck out is my car. Yeah, I have a front door, but why let the fun stop there? Let's spruce up the Subaru with some yuletide cheer. Throw an ornament on the ol' Outback. Pimp my ride. Slay my sleigh. So, a few years ago I set out with a mission: to deck my car's grill with boughs of holly - the only fir I'll wear. Six years later, George's is the only place I'll shop to trim my horsepower. Now, size matters when it comes to wreaths, and the elves at George's must make Santa super proud, as it's the only spot this side of the North Pole offering perfect car-sized holiday hoops (13") that just beg for festive ribbon and a home to call their own for the season. Just call me George Foreman because my grill is hot! A real fir wreath with some festive flair is as far as I'll take it though; you won't see Lila cruising around town playing any reindeer games while donning antlers and a red nose. Let's leave that to the professionals. What's guiding your sleigh, tonight? It doesn't matter if it's drawn by reindeer or horsepower, everyone should pimp their ride this season! George's updated our landscaping in October 2022. We spent $3,000. The photos showing the centerpiece of our landscaping is our front tree. The photos are one year apart. The tree is obviously dead. George's would not do much at all and gaslighted me. First they said we had too much rain, but I live off of Sand Creek Road and my soil is sandy loam. When it was planted they told me it cannot be overwatered. I babied that tree because we loved it. All our other plantings survived. Ironically, or maybe not, my in-laws had the same exact tree planted by George's a year before they planted ours, which is why we selected our tree. George's did replace theirs for free. I'm pretty sure they won't for me because I gave them a bad initial review because they were horrible to initially deal with prior to plantings. Our tree had an issue when it was initially planted. It leaned and I think it was because they didn't plant it correctly. They sent a guy to straighten it out, but I'm not sure if the initial planting was just done wrong. Whatever the reason, the tree is dead, and it's George's fault. Other issues include doing a messy job installing sod and locating some plantings in a weird arrangement. The crew that did the work seemed to be rushing and didn't seem like they cared about what they were doing. I'm going to have to replace this in the Spring and when I do I definitely would not be going back to George's. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GEORGE'S because: 1. The office does not return multiple phone calls. 2. They get very upset if they are not given a five star review and keep pushing to get a better review. 3. They are expensive. 4. They do not stand behind their products. 5. If there's a problem they don't want to hear it and will say anything to sidestep it. 6. Their planting crew is not friendly and does not seem to care. read more

Last Spring I purchased three shrubs from George's, having discussed the location and our needs with the very knowledgeable salesperson. Two of them looked about dead this spring, but I gave them a couple of months to see if they would revive. They haven't. I called George's to see if there was a warranty on them. I was told that since they were planted by our landscaper, there was only a 12 month warranty, and it was only for 50% of the purchase price. It's annoying since there was no way of telling in mid April, the 12 month anniversary of their planting, whether they would revive. In other words, we're out of luck. We plan to replace them with stock purchased elsewhere. read more

George's market and nursery is an amazing place to get your plants!, they sell the best quality on the area and their soil, mulch and stones are awesome!, besides of their great service, their employees are polite and glad to help everybody when they have the opportunity to do it, they also do markets on "the crossings" at colonie, each Saturday!, the guy who was selling told me that fruits, apple cider donuts and maybe Their amazing corn would be available by mid of June!. If I could give a zero star I would. Purchased over $200 worth of plants on my first visit...total of 5 shrubs. After about 2 days of watering I noticed 1 of the 5 plants was dying and dry. I immediately called George's and explained what was happening and the guy on the phone with an arrogant attitude said it just needs water and there is nothing wrong and it will be fine. I continued to water every day and the shrub never recovered and looked dead. On the 10th day I returned the shrub to exchange or for a refund and when I arrived the same arrogant gentleman I talked on the phone was there and he accused me of not watering the shrub and said I can only give you 5o% off a new shrub. Told him I watered all 5 shrubs the same and this is the only one that died. He said then you didn't water this one. He was a real snarky arrogant jerk. He the went and got I assume the manager a heavy set women From the back. She came out already with an attitude. And said we didn't water no refund. Eventually she said just go get a replacement and I quote " you better give us a good shout out on social media because we just gave you something for nothing" and slammed the plant in to the trash can. I would never step foot in this place again. I have never been treated so rudely in all my life. I'm still in shock over it. read more

I use to like this place but as the reviews show the care and pride has left the greenhouse. After I purchased an expensive tree on an impulse l called back a few days later to see what my options were. As others mentioned the staff was rude and blamed me for their problems with customer service. How many you of you look beyond the glitz of stuff to buy to read small signs about there policies. I called George's to place an order for delivery. I live hours away and knew nothing about this business. Donnette answered the phone and was not only willing to help me but sent me pictures of the plants she had to be sure I would be happy with their selection before placing an order. She packaged my order beautifully and delivered my items promptly. I cannot say enough about a business and an individual who is so willing to offer exceptional service to someone over the phone. I would have had no idea if she sold me their left over garbage but Donnette treated me like a long time customer. Before you order garden soil or compost this year for your garden, try someone else. I bought mine here last year because of the great reviews, but George's failed me. I built raised bed garden boxes, so I knew exactly how much to order. They shorted me. They were good about a partial refund once I pointed out the error with pictures to prove it. Then the soil itself was bad! My garden did poorly, so I had the soil tested. The Ph was 8! I brought the test results to George's and they gave me some product to lower the Ph for free, but it was too little, too late. read more

First, this review is for the George's Market and Nursery on watervliet-shaker road previously known as shaker shed. My family has been going to this location (previously known as shaker shed) for over 25 years and have always enjoyed the pleasant staff and quality nursery. I visited this location today, and the flowers were beautiful and healthy as expected, which is the only reason I am not giving this review 1 star. As I was browsing the nursery and picking flowers for my garden, a member of the staff asked if she could take my flowers up to the counter so that I could, "continue looking for more flowers and free my hands". I then realized that I had left my wallet at home. I asked the same staff member if she could please leave my MANY flowers upfront until I get back so that I can check out. The staff member advised that they are going to be closed, so no. I advised her I love just down the road it would be 10 minutes, and she advised they are trying to close and leave. First of all it was 5pm, why does your nursery close at 5pm during your very short flower season in upstate NY?! when someone is giving you a significant amount of business, it would be reasonable to wait 10 minutes for them to return with payment. I have not even mentioned the fact that when the staff member took the flowers from me originally she advised me that she took the flowers from me so I could continue shopping....so then why can you not wait the 10 mins for me to get my wallet??? Don't worry though, I found out Hewitts Nursery is open until 8pm so, if you are like the majority of the world and work until 5pm you can head over to Hewitts! read more

I can't say enough about how pleased my husband and I are with the job Georges Market did to beautifully transform the front of our home. It was a very pleasant and stress free experience working with George (grandson). He is knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and accommodating. The crews that did the work were very efficient and the hardest working guys we have ever seen. We had a retaining wall and 20 plants put in and it was completed in three days with no problems at all. We recommend Georges highly.
