They have large carts to load plants onto. The carts actually moved along smoothly. A knowledgeable staff member Kenny circulated to answer all of the questions customers had. He was patient and helpful. Purchased: Beautiful deep pink Hibiscus Tree for the Deck Organic Tomato Plants Dwarf Marigolds, Portulocca, and large red Spikes for pots on the front porch. Potting Soil A staff worker packed my car with plants and four bags of potting soil. There was a bee on a Marigold flower, and I asked him to get it to fly away. He did. The large Greenhouses were stocked with blooming healthy annuals and perennials. It was a sea of beautiful floral colors. One of the three Greenhouses had vegetable plants and herbs. They did not have Italian Flat Leaf Parsley, so I will look for it elsewhere. Checkout was organized and efficient. There were three checkout stations!

My wife and I decided that for our first Christmas in our new house we would get a real tree. (We…read morehave for years used a cheap artificial tree from Walmart). Without really knowing what we were getting into, we followed a friend's recommendation to this place. We went the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it was very busy. Online articles say that this is the busiest weekend for buying real trees, and if you wait too long you may get stuck with an ugly tree. When we arrived around 10:20, it was plenty busy. We rode a hay wagon up the hill to an area covered with trees, were handed saws to cut them down, and let loose. Many trees have colored tags which correspond to a sheet of paper they give you listing prices (purple trees cost X, yellow tags cost Y, etc.) Untagged trees are available for purchase but they recommend you ask someone who works there first for a price quote before cutting it down to avoid sticker shock. My wife left the area where the others were and hiked into the back portion to find the "perfect tree." She found one that was a bit too tall for our house, but we had to have it. We asked for a quote and it was well within our budget. Unfortunately, there was only one person doing quotes so we waited literally 20-30 minutes before the guy came and found us in the back. Had we selected a pre-tagged tree, it would have gone much quicker. Then, I cut it down and he loaded it onto the wagon, and back we went. They only accept cash or checks, and they won't help you mount it on the car (for insurance reasons we were told) though they do have plenty of twine. I don't think they bale the trees either, at least I didn't see it available. They have a small store in the barn with cocoa and such, though after a morning of cold and rain I was in no mood to investigate. We secured the tree to the car and headed home. The place was cute and had lots of nice trees. Ours ended up being $48, which seemed fair. It might be more than one from a big box store, but we were paying for the experience of searching it out, cutting it, and bringing it home. As tree farms go, this was a much nicer than the one we went to in the past and I would recommend the place.

We have a far drive so he made sure to double up tying our tree on the roof of our car. It wasn't too crowded or overwhelming like some of the other places. Everyone was wearing masks, too. I consider Hewitt's to be the "big little guy" when it comes to garden centers in the Upper Hudson…read moreValley. On the one hand, it's not a "garden department" in a big box chain. On the other, it is bigger than smaller greenhouses and supply centers. You'll get a good variety at any Hewitt's, but sometimes not the cheapest price. Their Garden and Holiday Decorating Club Card helps there ($25 credit for each $250 spent). My visit today was way too early for outdoor plants to be available, but they good sales on seeds and bulbs, and a lot of Easter decorations available. They always have great holiday decorations. Near that you'll find all the yard and garden supplies you need. When the weather warms up, you'll be able to choose from a wide variety of flowering and non-flowering plants, shrubs, trees, bushes, etc. I've also been able to find items here which have been harder to find in big-box plant departments. For example, today I found a uniquely sized clay flowerpot, a size and shape I had not found at any of the aforementioned big box plant departments. The staff is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable.
