Have been a fan of crispy beef jerky since the first time I had it on Oahu a few years ago. George's Meat Market, you have spoiled me for all other brands. If George's isn't the oldest, original crispy beef jerky, it's certainly one of them. Reading reviews dating back since 2010 referencing their crispy beef chips, they have had many years to perfect their product. And it's true, once you try George's crispy jerky... paper thin, crispy like a chip, deliciously flavored... you won't want any other! There are one or two labels I do enjoy from Oahu still, given the choice... I will choose George's! So happy that Stacey, proprietor of George's, mentioned they can ship. Give them a jingle and get your supply now! So far I have limited my consumption to what I can fit in my suitcase. Traveling friends were laughing when they saw half my suitcase filled with George's crispy beef jerky. After making pre-arrangements with Stacey, my small reunion group was able to taste a number of flavors of crispy jerky. Stacey was so nice and accommodating. It's a good thing as, after gathering a bunch of crispy jerky, energy bars, and other snacks we must have spent about $300. And I will continue to send people over to George's for the most delicious treats and meats. I have tried just about all their flavors. My favorites being the spicy chili pepper and shoyu, their bulgogi Korean bbq, and their sweet char siu flavored crispy jerky. Ohh but wait, they also have really delicious energy bars. George's Meat Market has a nice selection of beef jerky and that was the main reason for our visit. We enjoy the crispy (thinly sliced and flavored) beef jerky, it's like eating potato chips. All kinds of flavors from teriyaki, chili pepper, and black pepper. We enjoy the black pepper and that's what my cousin suggested as well. George's also has this killer smoked shoyu (soy sauce) that you can use for many things but again we like to pour it over tofu. The lady inside, who helped us, was nice and friendly. Prices were good, I just wish we took the time to see what else stuff they had to offer. Mayne next time we're in Hilo we'll spend a little more time looking around. read more

I've been to Hilo a few times but I never knew about this place and their crispy beef jerky until I read about it on yelp. I made a stop here after visiting the Hilo Farmers Markets on a Saturday. The parking lot where George's Meat Market is located was empty and when I walked into the shop, the workers were in the kitchen area prepping beef jerk. They greeted us from behind and we sort of yelled back so they knew we were there... LOL! I browsed their snacks and the different flavors of crispy beef jerky before deciding on what to buy. The beef jerky is pricey so I only bought one bag to try. Their jerky is thin, crispy, and well-seasoned. I trip to Big Island once a year with family and majority of the time spending time at Kona side. But this year, we decided to drive Hilo side. I checked couple of places we go and one of the list is here because we always do BBQ at our AirBNB and look for good meat and fish. Searched by butcher on Yelp and hit this place. We all expected lots of fresh meat. Actually there are big size freezer and meat and fish are inside there. Frozen but some of them already made tasted(marinated). The store is cozy but you can find lots of good deals. We chose some Kalbi and teriyaki butterfish. During driving back to accommodation, that's good time to defrost (didn't put cooler bag ) and warm up grill and cook. They both delicious! We love their meat and fish! Actually, our purpose was buying meat and fish but everybody grabbed snacks! (We were hungry) Chex mix, beef jerky(this is so good!, they make in a store so when we got inside, smelled so good!), cookies, and more. Store staff is very friendly and nice. There are so many places that sell Crispy Beef Jerky that after awhile you weed out the good and the bad. George's Meat Market has been around since 1930. They sell meat and seafood products, but also Ono snacks. We come for the snacks made in house to take home when in Hilo. It makes for great Omiyage for family and friends. Hilo is full of random places to get really good food and this place is the epitome of Hilo food. The address says Hoku Street but you can cut through a parking lot from Kilauea Avenue. Try to park close to the door because the rain may not stop. Or may start unexpectedly. The sales area is small and L-shaped. There's lots of thin crispy beef jerky to choose from. The shopkeeper said the black pepper is the most popular. My sister-in-law requested teriyaki and the bf's daughter got a bulgogi one. We also purchased some chex mix and salt and vinegar pork rinds. Overall a pretty quick shopping experience for omiyage to bring home. Will stop by again when in town! read more

When I come down to Hilo, my wife always wants me to bring back the Sriracha flavored beef jerky and younger son like Brian's Hilo Style. The Sriracha flavored one is the hottest one as well as the best hot flavored one I had. I think this is the original thin jerky in Hawaii and then everyone copied. This one has the better flavors, but I prefer another place that gives me more bang for my buck. read more

I really like beef jerky and George's Meat Market has excellent crispy jerky that is the perfect omiyage or Christmas present to bring back to Honolulu. The we arrived they had a table set up outside with most of their products for purchase. I think they had 8 different varieties and I purchased 6 of them. They are not cheap at $14 a bag but you can shorten your Christmas list with a short visit here. I definitely will be back. read more

Though I've not had the pleasure of meeting him. I have had more than a few run-ins with some sweet cuts of meat from George's Meat Market, though! Ironically, never the jerky that everyone is raving about in many of these reviews. I guess that just speaks to GMM's range. My favorite thing from George's, just based on what happens to be gifted to the fam and I, is usually their marinated chicken! Perfect for throwing in the freezer and busting out whenever you need something easy to throw on the grill. Their cuts of red meat are obviously also great, but being that I'm a plebe and am unable to distinguish between the various cuts off the top of my head, I'm only able to offer that blanket statement. Great stuff, though! George's Meat Market is located downtown off of Kilauea Ave. Next to Restaurant Kenichi and across the street from Hilo's courthouse. Super accessible and always easy to find parking for. If ever I were to offer a criticism of GMM, it would be that it can sometimes be a little pricey. You get what you pay for, though, so you can't really be mad at it. It's always a great shout if you feel like being bougie and giving people cuts of meat as gifts. I'll always remember the all-gold bag as a sign of good meals to come. If you're wanting to treat friends/family to a somewhat outside the box gift or are someone who cares about getting quality meat and/or specific cuts for your cooking, I'd definitely recommend George's Meat Market. read more

Once upon a time...when my cholestoral was low and I partook of things with eyes....I'd come to this store and drop a $100 in beef jerky like my life depended on it. Without thinking twice OR feeling bad about it. Then before I even reached my car door, a bag of this paper-thin-potato-chip like consistency beef jerky would be half gone. But alas, those days are jubilently behind me and now I have my fun tales of days when crispy beef jerky didn't threaten to put me in a grave (at that point). How I could crush said crispy jerky over steamed white rice and drink beer, to make a full meal of it at the beach. Yes, George's Meats. You've made it to the rolodex in my mind of happy thoughts and memories and I will forever keep you there, coz the good Lord knows I can't visit you no mo'. Jerky is thin and crispy. I prefer my jerky thick and "juicy" but had no problem sending my friends home with it. Bought bone out kalbi short ribs already marinated. Grilled it, sliced it and went to heaven. Tender and seasoned nicely. 2 lbs costed about $32. I didn't check out everything but did see bone in kalbi short ribs, chicken kalbi, char siu, and I think maybe some takuan but I wasn't really paying attention. Of course, like the sign outside says, they have Ono with a garlic butter sauce and soft shell crab too. I love beef jerky! I love this beef jerky because it is flavored well and sliced thin, which gives it an almost chip-like texture. My favorite is the spicy teriyaki. If that's not your jam, not to worry, they have a bunch more! All the bags are organized in bins and clearly labeled. Staff members will give you as much time as you need to get your order together. If you're like me, you're texting people to see what they want. Yes, it's just that good. It's $12 a bag. I recommend that you buy a bag and sit in the parking lot to eat it. That way, you can come right back in to buy more. If you spend over $50 like I always do, you get a free non-beef jerky item. I think they're closed on either Monday or Tuesday so please call before you head down. These guys are extremely nice (but who isn't in Hilo)? It was about 4:30pm when we walked in and they still serviced us (they close at 4pm, which I didn't realize until I walked out the door and looked at their hours). Their paper thin beef jerky is the best ever. It has to be refrigerated if not opened right away. We tried the black pepper, shoyu and teriyaki--all which were amazing. I also bought a marlin jerky for my father. Although I didn't try it myself, he swears it was the best. It is a little on the pricier side but well worth the extra couple bucks. IT makes a wonderful omiyage/gift for all jerky lovers. Go early because they sell out of popular flavors. They also do mail orders. =) read more

ok. let's just start off by saying... i am TOTALLY not a fan of beef jerky.. never look for it & when it's around i don't even attempt to eat it cuz it's just not my thing. BUT my cousins wanted to come here to grab a few bags because i guess they have "the best jerky" so i tagged along .... and low & behold... didn't know there was a beef jerky fan in me until that day! Located in the back of the fairly new restaurant in Hilo, Kennichi and next to Tokunaga's fishing store right off Kilauea Ave. When you walk in their store, it doesn't look like much - a few freezers on the left and a glass showcase with refrigerated meats and tsukemono and bins of beef jerky displayed on the top. That's it! The rest of the shop is their prepping/butchering tables. But dah, like mostly everyone else - I come here for the super thinly sliced, crispy, beef jerky! For $11.50 you can get what feels like 0.10lbs of beef jerky, but ooh, I love how easy their beef jerky is to eat. No more getting suck in my teeth or having to chew it like a cow (wait, a cow chewing beef jerky?... hm, sorry, bad analogy). I normally get black pepper flavor because it has the right amount of spice and flavor. My friend always has me get the shoyu chili pepper one for him but I ate a bag this past weekend and bleh, no taste at all! boo. My mom also gets their marinated meats (sorry, can't tell you the cost) but they're always so tasty. This is a family-runned business and I always appreciate that. They're not the warmest people here, but they always look so busy so I don't blame them. Always someone available to answer any questions you may have. They give a stamp card (fill $50 worth - 10 stamps @$5) and once filled, allows you to choose from a variety of tsukemono or sometimes veggies. Must-stop place to try while in Hilo! read more

Never been here personally, but my MIL goes I think twice a year to Hilo. Once for Bon Dance and once for something else. She always brings back the jerky. It's soooo good. It is paper thin, but it's crunchy. It's like crunchy beef chips. I can eat a whole bag easy. Pricier than commercial jerky but I'm sure it does take more effort to slice it thin and make it so yummy. They will gladly ship inter island, I just ordered six bags today. I think for the teri was $8 a bag and everything else was $11. She did mention the teri bags were smaller. They did say they might be backed up because they're busy for Memorial Day weekend (since they ARE a meat market) so I'll anxiously but gladly wait until next week for my order. read more

BEST BEEF JERKY! Caution: There is a high likelihood you'll over consume your fair share of beef. This beef jerky is paper thin, crispy, & seasoned to perfection. It is a true test of the most savory goodness Hilo has to offer. The people at George's meat market know what's up! I've had black pepper, shoyu, shoyu and chili pepper, teriyaki, and Bryan's special. My favorite is black pepper with shoyu & chili pepper coming in a close second. Every time I stop off in Hilo I always pay a visit to George's. They people are very friendly, down to earth, and low key. Don't be expecting any frills... Cause this place is what their name suggests, a meat market. They do have other things for sale like pickled vegetables... But that beef jerky is prime! The only product that I'm reviewing is their seasoned (raw) prime rib roast. I went to George's Meat Market for the first time because I had a gift certificate that I wanted to use. I heard about some of the marinated meats and seafood that they offered so I kind of had an idea ahead of time what I would be purchasing. I looked through all the different items and decided on the prime rib. I love prime rim but never attempted to make one before for fear of over cooking it or under/over seasoning it. Ugh! That would be a horrible thing. When it was time to cook it, I followed the instructions and it came out perfectly! Juicy, tender and well seasoned. It even came with a can of au jus. If you ever have a dinner party and you want to impress your friends and family, I suggest stopping by George's Meat market and picking up a prime rib roast. You can't go wrong! read more

Their jerky is the bomb dot com!!!! Very pure and simple ingredients- you know exactly what you're eating!! Jerky is very thinly sliced and more crunchy compared to the soft/chewy store-manufactured stuff. Only down side is it's pretty expensive considering you only get about an ounce or so in each bag. read more
