The only product that I'm reviewing is their seasoned (raw) prime rib roast. I went to George's Meat Market for the first time because I had a gift certificate that I wanted to use. I heard about some of the marinated meats and seafood that they offered so I kind of had an idea ahead of time what I would be purchasing. I looked through all the different items and decided on the prime rib. I love prime rim but never attempted to make one before for fear of over cooking it or under/over seasoning it. Ugh! That would be a horrible thing. When it was time to cook it, I followed the instructions and it came out perfectly! Juicy, tender and well seasoned. It even came with a can of au jus. If you ever have a dinner party and you want to impress your friends and family, I suggest stopping by George's Meat market and picking up a prime rib roast. You can't go wrong! read more

Their jerky is the bomb dot com!!!! Very pure and simple ingredients- you know exactly what you're eating!! Jerky is very thinly sliced and more crunchy compared to the soft/chewy store-manufactured stuff. Only down side is it's pretty expensive considering you only get about an ounce or so in each bag. read more

When my aunty used to live in Hilo she would bring back the frozen kalbi here to Honolulu. The kalbi is so tender and full of flavor, and it's thick cut pieces too. It's so ono. Though the past 2 times I've been there they only have a few packages. I guess its a good idea to pre-order if you want a lot. I also remember eating their famous thin sliced beef jerky but haven't had it in a while. I just bought a few packages to try out again. Can't wait to open them. read more

Another must stop when in Hilo town. They have the most ono crispy beef jerky. My favorite is the shoyu chilipepper flavor...salty with some kick! If you spend over $50 (which is easy to do) you can get some homemade pickled daikon or tsukemono...perfect to go with that cone sushi youre going to pick up at Kawamotos right down the road... read more

George's is up there with Big Island Candies in the amount of requests from Oahu friends to bring back from Hilo. They specialize in thinly (and I mean razor thin) sliced beef jerky. The pieces are so perfectly crispy and break like chips. The flavor is so savory and perfect you will very well eat the whole back ($12) in one sitting, so if you want to share, get multiple bags! I love the consistency in quality, and the rewards program which lets you get a free item with purchase of 10? bags of jerky. Usually it's a bag of nishime or pickled vegetables. Outstanding meat products. From jerky to marinaded meats, George's meat market has some wonderful stuff. The smoked meat, kalbi ox tail, and all sorts of intresting items are a must try. Their beef jerky is a favorite: distinctively thin and crisp. We like the black pepper variety. Makes terrific omiyage since it's so different and novel, and has the benefit of being light, easily packed, and not as perishable as some of the other popular Hilo omiyage. read more

Their beef jerky is great as omiyage (if it makes it home)! Everyone I have shared it with has given it high marks and now it's requested often when I visit Hilo. I recommend ordering in advance, as they do run out. All the flavors are great, but the Chili Pepper one seems to be the favorite among my family and friends. I've also purchased their meats for family BBQs and have never been disappointed. The prices may seem a little higher, but then you realize you're getting much higher quality than they sell elsewhere. Totally worth it! read more

I never would have known about this place until someone said we should check it out. It is a small little shop but it has really good beef jerky even if the price is a little high. The beef jerky is super thin. The best flavor has to be the chili pepper. When I know people are going to be visiting Hilo I am going to ask them to pick me up a bag. read more

Beef Jerky like you've never had before! My review is only based on the jerky, so take note of that. I stopped by on the recommendation of a friend and I am glad I did! The peppered jerky is awesome! Thinnest sliced jerky I have ever seen and so very flavorful. The lady there was nice enough to let us in even though they were supposed to be closed that day. Got 1 each of the shoyu and black pepper. I've never had beef jerky this good. I used to make my own and it's never come out like this. Being nearly paper thin gives it a distinct texture that I've never had in any kind of food before -- crispy, crumbly and crunchy. Once you get past the crunchy, you get chewy. And really flavorful. The pieces are big and shaped artsy. There's absolutely no yanking with these jerky; separating a piece takes just the slightest pressure with your fingers or teeth. Ingredients for the black pepper beef jerky are beef, soy sauce, black pepper and spices; for the shoyu beef jerky, they're beef, soy sauce, garlic and spices (I like the shoyu slightly better -- must be the garlic). No preservatives. Wow, am I a devoted fan. Friends on the mainland will love me for sending these. For seconds, they'd better fly over. read more

SHIZZLE. i cant even begin to tell you how good it is (as i type this im consuming a whole bag by myself). its the thinnest sliced beef jerky ive every encountered - so thin its crispy :) im eating the black pepper flavor, and i really like that it retains some fat which i think only adds to the meat flavor. i want more already. read more

Great meat - wonderful service, very friendly and helpful. What a great business. I went there first time - got local grass fed, GMO free rib eye steaks and Mahi. WOW!! Great, tender and very tasty steaks - the Mahi was so good with the seasoned butter that comes with it!!! I will definitely be back every month now. George's makes the best jerky I've ever had in my life. The beef is sliced impossibly paper thin, and it's not overwhelmed with spices, sugar and other flavorings that other vendors would otherwise use to mask a less than stellar quality of meat. Incredible stuff. read more
