Very fun place we had our company Christmas party here. I will say I didn't see any elevators and this place is segmented into floors like crazy.. you will have to climb lots of flights of stairs to get around. Bars are a few and intimate. read more

Really enjoyed our experience here as it was our 1st time. The bar service was quick and efficient, the venue acoustics were amazing, and the bathrooms were clean. Staff members started scanning tickets and issuing wristbands prior to doors opening which was great and staff was very friendly! I would definitely come back to a show here. Parking was easily found in the garage behind the theatre on Washington street. It was $6 for us to park. There's plenty to walk to nearby. All in all a great experience! read more

Great venue for a concert! $6 parking next door. Yes, that's right, $6 parking, in a garage, for $6. There are bars on every level so it's easy to get a drink. It's all general admission, but there are stools in the balcony, but not many so head there if you want a seat. It's a great, small, historic venue with great open views to easily see the artist. Great venue with reasonable prices for shows in Athens. Seating is available for those who arrive early I mean like bar stools in the upper levels. Bathroom is located in basement and on the roof level has a smaller one to use if you are seated on balcony. Place smelled like a dam grape flintstone vitamin with all those vapers puff on that shit which kinda sucked. Local beers were available and food looked pretty good. So great time minus the grape smell that's got to go away sooner than later. read more

I've been here in the past for concerts (they were awesome) but most recently for a wedding Parking - It's DT Athens. You'll find a parking meter or park in the deck that's like .5 miles away. It's not really painful to walk that far since the deck is very close to DT in general. There's a roof top bar! It's awesome and quaint. It is kind of small but Athens isn't like Atlanta so the spacing isn't bad. My friends got married on stage and they had all types of wedding stuff around them. It was so cute. The usual standing area at first had several rows of chairs for the Bride and Groom's friends. After the I Do, we all dispersed upstairs to hang out while the staff put up the chairs and put in the usual reception tables/chairs and the food. The bar area near the front is awesome. Everyone had drinks and etc. The front area isn't like squished. It's fairly spacious. Overall, the at the atmosphere was amazing. Oh the outside top where the theatre usually has whoever they're playing that night had their names and wedding date. So nice! Everyone passing the theater by could see the lit up words. Very simply put (and I'm rarely simple), this is probably the best small venue I have ever seen a concert in. It was beautiful inside and the acoustics were fantastic. I absolutely loved it. I saw The War on Drugs here - excellent. This venue has 3 levels. On the bottom is an area where it is standing-room-only (there is no seating whatsoever). If you are early enough, you can get a standing spot right at the stage (very nice!). Then upstairs, there is a level with a bar, and there is a heavy railing with a few stools along it; that's where I chose to sit and it was PERFECT. I was still very close to the stage, but actually had a seat (again, come early to get these coveted spots). Above me was another tier where you could stand. All three levels had a great view of the band. I love The War on Drugs and came to Athens specifically to see them in this small venue; I was glad I did. As for the outside of the theatre, it is historic and beautiful and right in the center of downtown Athens. I understand that it burned down a few years ago and I have to say the owners did an amazing job of rebuilding. There are brick walls on the inside that are magnificent and from the original structure. Sometimes in small venues such as this, the A/C isn't sufficient and it gets stuffy - NOT the case here. There is a ginormous ceiling fan and the A/C was fantastic. I really found everything about this venue to be perfect. Parking around this venue is tricky. There is street parking, but, I'd imagine you'd have to hunt around for a spot. I stayed at the Holiday Inn a block away, so I just walked there. There is a rooftop deck that I read was wonderful, but it was raining a little so I didn't go up there - next time! LOVE this place. Love it and I'll be back! p.s. Oh, one more thing, the bathroom!! WOW! The bathroom was huge and was super clean (I didn't expect that!) - all good! read more

My absolute favorite spot to stop by when I am in Athens. The only bar in Athens that has a rooftop view of downtown Athens. The one flaw is that they only have 1 beer on draft, but they have many bottle and liquor selections to make up for it. The view is just breathtaking, especially at night. You feel like you are drifting away with the breeze. In the winter time, they provide heaters. You can also get lunch here during the day. Romantic date anyone? read more

My number one favorite place to see concerts no doubt. After going to countless shows at the old Theatre, I finally returned to experience the new and improved venue. I missed the old atmosphere for nostalgic reasons but the new Theatre is so nice that it didn't matter. The roof top bar, as everyone has said, is amazing. There is a full bar up there as opposed to the more limited bars on the first and third floors. You can enjoy the rooftop bar without having to go to a concert and it has extended hours. There are heaters on the roof as well so it is a great option year round. The other major changes are the balcony area and the bathrooms. The seating on the balcony is now more limited than before so for ye who would rather perch on a stool than dance around on the floor level I would recommend getting there early. The bathrooms are now located in the basement and are 10,000 times nicer than before. Sincerely, I thank you Ga Theatre for the improvements to your bathrooms. The Theatre always does a great job of keeping excellent new and old bands coming through. They showcase a huge variety of bands from jammy bands to more rock types to country musicians. No matter what type of show you go for, the crowd is always energetic and fun. The staff is also a solid group of helpful, quick, music loving people. If you have never been to a show at the Theatre, check out their calendar and pick a show to go to. The Georgia Theatre is an institution of Athens that everybody needs to experience. read more

Went for the Robert Earl Keen Show. The music was great on the floor. My complaint is about handicap seating. My wife is a stroke survivor and the only stools available for the handicapped are in a corner on the 3rd level. You are expected to wear a sticker with a handicap symbol to enter that section! She had to sit by herself as the rest of our party could not enter. In 2018 we expect better! read more

Cowboy Junkies concert. They are very surprisingly discriminatory to who they let into their reserved sections. Several available areas not marked well which we accidentally walked into (8.5x11 taped to stanchions away from entry point) , but we were asked to leave while four young white girls were accepted in the same spot as we were just asked to leave it (without the requirements for the space) I'll find concerts elsewhere. I should mention though, this is no reflection of Cowboy Junkies. They were amazing. The Theaters staff and policy, well... Train your staff on equality and standardization please, enforce it or don't. read more

The rooftop bar at the new Georgia Theatre is a great spot to grab a drink on a midsummer's night in Athens. Prices are a tad high for a college town, but the crowd trends a bit older, so I'm willing to pay a bit more to not feel like a fossil amidst all the 19 year olds in other spots downtown. There are tons of high top tables and bar stools, making this an ideal spot for groups to congregate. No table service, so grab your drinks at the long bar, grab a chair, and enjoy the beautiful view of Broad Street and City Hall. Rooftop bar is my fave. Drinks aren't too expensive @ $5 for a draft of Creature Comforts. We ordered the tacos for lunch and it wasn't toooo shabby. But I definitely would not rush back just for the food. Once you order, and your food is made, they call you at the window to pick it up. This is definitely more of a drinking type of venue. The way they've rehabbed and rebuilt the Georgia Theatre is amazing. It's now clearly the premiere venue of its size in the state. The new sound system is superb, and utterly deafening, but it's cool that they offer free earplugs. Street parking nearby is usually reliable and easy. The staff is friendly. The free rooftop shows are fun. That said, this place is way more than the sum of its parts. When Joe Biden received the Medal of Freedom, he mentioned in his speech that his alma mater, the University of Delaware, is "where [his] heart resides." That sentiment is immediately resonant to many if not all UGA alumni. Spending the beginning of your adult life in Athens, you find that -- especially if you're a music lover -- some of the most memorable times you experience are actually at the Georgia Theatre. It's unnerving how quickly and thoroughly Athens is gentrifying. When I was an undergraduate, basically everybody I knew was poor like me. But of all the Athens institutions to get "gussied up," the Georgia Theatre has done it with the most class and heart -- not to mention more out of necessity than ambition. They're striking the right balance between twenty-first-century upgrades and old-school Athens charm. This place is a treasure. read more

OMG, the rooftop bar is absolutely amazing! We decided to venture up to try out the rooftop bar prior to a late game this football season. It was easy to get in and although chilly, there were heat warmer lamps everywhere. It was terrific people watching as the ages in the crowd varied quite a bit,. It was awesome to watch the sun go down too. The team behind the bar was super friendly and poured terrific drinks. MEGA kudos for having my favorite wine, Casal Garcia's vinho verde, available! YAY! We decided to get a snack before the game and looked at the menu, finally settling on the pork tacos based on the enthusiasm of the bartenders. OMG, amazing. As good as I've had anywhere! The pork BBQ had amazing flavor, but it was the acoutrements - the slaw, the cilantro, the onion - that made this one of the best tacos I've ever had. A definite must, and bonus for me - they paired awesomely with my vinho verde! A terrific pre-game spot, but I'd bet it would be awesome in the spring/summer for sundowners, not to mention pre/post concert! Great job Georgia Theater - this is just what Athens needed! read more

The new Georgia Theater might be the coolest venue of all time. Now don't get me wrong, Atlanta has it's classics. The Fox Theater is beautiful, the new Verizon Wireless Amphitheater is very well designed, and hole-in-the-walls like the Northside Tavern are inimitable. But the newly rebuilt Georgia Theater in Athens is all around excellent. This theater has a history of its own, but that's something you can research somewhere else. The new place is still pretty small, holding a couple hundred people on the main floor and another hundred or so upstairs on the balcony level. Every seat seems to be the best in the house. And everything is super-accessible, too. At a recent show we were standing only ten feet from the stage, and when it came time to get more beer, I managed to get through the crowd, grab two brews, and was back to my seat in less than 5 minutes. And speaking of bars, this place is loaded. The main floor features two full-service bars with incredibly fair prices. The balcony has a third bar, and the new rooftop patio is decked out with a wrap-around bar, heater lamps, big screen LCD TV's, and the best (third story) views in city. The rooftop bar also boasts 3 Terrapin beers on draught, available for only $5 a pint. And all of the watering stations are staffed with real bartenders, ones that pour real drinks instead of the standard ripoff pony-jigger-measuring fools you see at places like The Tabernacle. Acoustics here are fantastic, the lights are well designed, and there are no barriers, polls, etc. to block your view. Hell, the sound booth is only about 20 feet back from the stage. Impressive. Check out their lineup and you'll surely find some big-name act hitting the small-town scene in Athens. Take a trip to the Georgia Theater, and while you're there, grab me a Terrapin Hopsecutioner. read more

It definitely has a better feel and look to it now that it's been revamped. The venue isn't spectacular, but its more than adequate for the shows that play here. It's a great place to relax, grab some drinks (if you're a drinker), and listen to some live shows. Not usually too expensive either! I recommend the bar/restaurant on the roof as well! read more

I recently went back to the Georgia Theatre for the first time in years. It is amazing now, and is lightyears ahead of the Theatre it used to be. I miss some of the grunge in there, but you know, I'll take the good with the bad considering what happened to the place a couple of years ago. I'll never forget driving home, hungover, and trying to fight the firetrucks, cop cars, and pedestrians all standing watching one of, if not THE, biggest landmark in downtown Athens burn up and out. The bar upstairs is a perfect perch to have a drink with good company, and people watch over the ledge. They even pump the concert through TV's at the bar if you still want live music, but insist on drinking outside and on a rooftop (I realize that makes the bar sound dumb, but I assure you it isn't. I used to gravitate to Boar's Head to drink outside, but now I certainly find myself at the Georgia Theatre). Be sure to look up, there is a Big Ass Fan hanging from the ceiling! And while it is an enormous fan, the company is actually called the Big Ass Fan company. read more

I've not been to the Georgia Theatre in several years, and not since the big renovation. It's an awesome venue. I saw George Clinton and P-Funk. Amazing show, and no more a perfect place to see it than the Georgia Theatre. The vibe was great, the crowd was great, and I can really get used to the dirt cheap drinks that Athens has to offer. The bar staff were polite and actually behaved as if they were there to serve you. What a pleasant surprise. I don't come to Athens for shows very much, but I can't wait to revisit the Georgia Theatre. read more

Before a concert at the Georgia Theatre last September we decided to grab a mid-afternoon drink and snack at the rooftop bar. Mainly to check it out and because we had time to kill. (We were even enjoyed a little show as a cat decided to walk along the railing on the top floor of a neighboring parking garage.) I remember the snacks being a bit pricey but the drinks were reasonable. Mostly we enjoyed being on the roof in the wonderful Georgia weather and of course the show afterwards. I would recommend this bar and theatre to anyone visiting Athens. read more

First stop at the rooftop bar for food after the Branded Butcher took over. Great place for snacks during the day if the weather is good! We had cheese fries, hummus, pimiento goat cheese, and fried chicken skins. All of them were fantastic and I would get them again. The pickles with the pimiento were incredible and definitely blended well with the dish. The skins were surprisingly good - great crunch with the hot sauce on the side. Will be back for sure to eat a real meal, but what a great place to come before drinking downtown. read more

I've been to a lot of shows (200+), and the Georgia Theatre is my favorite venue. The sound is clear, the sight lines are plenty and varied, and the building is just fun to run around in. There are so many different ways to see a show here: in the floor, on the ramp, in the balcony, on the roof! I just love how easy it is to get into and around the place. My favorite place to listen to music in Athens! I think this is one of the best sounding rooms the town has to offer, and it's a great size- small enough to feel intimate but large enough that you don't feel claustrophobic upon walking in. I love that they have multiple levels to choose from to watch the show. They also book a wide range of talent, and ticket prices are usually pretty reasonable. The rooftop is great, as well. It's fun to head up there after a show, but be prepared for it to be packed. It's also great spot to hang out on beautiful, sunny weekend afternoons! read more

This is one of my favorite venues that I have ever been to. From the atmosphere to the staff, this place basically perfect. The outside and inside of the venue is very aesthetically pleasing, and the rooftop bar hosts one of the greatest environments in Athens. Plus if the line to get a drink is too long on the rooftop bar, there are THREE more to choose from. The staff is very cordial and it is easy to tell that their goal is to provide each patron with an incredible experience. In addition to a beautiful venue and amiable staff, the events the theater pulls are equally as impressive. The venue books a wide variety of acts and some music artists that are reluctant to enter the southeastern US. Two of the greatest shows I have seen were Cherub and Disclosure at this very place! Feeling hungry? Don't worry cause this place also serves kickass food! Long story short, you must go into this theater if you are ever in Athens. read more

Over-aggressive security team. The blond buzz guy in his forties stands and lords over everyone who leans on the stage or puts their drink on the edge of the stage for a minute. Watched him shine his flashlight on at least three people in 15 minutes and the place was nearly empty for a cover band show. Six left because of him and I left, too, even though I was not with their group. Don't bother with this place! read more
