Primitive CAMPING AT THE PARK Memorial day weekend Absolutely love to stay really beautiful, super peaceful and quiet at night other than it being Memorial Day weekend once that cooled down absolutely amazing Camp site We got one of these smaller sites. I wanna say we were at number 10. It was very nice, but it is very unlevel so putting up a tent and walking around in the tent was rough on your feet because it was nothing but roots sticking up out of the ground Luckily enough, we were primitive camping, but still did take an air mattress, but if you were sleeping in a sleeping bag, this would have been a huge problem Something to think about four people who go to primitive camping, but glamp with generators lights, etc. be considerate of your neighbors yes, we do understand that. It was memorial day weekend, but our neighbors had a generator and lights on bright enough You could probably see it from the moon. Even after they went to bed, left their lights on! They were quiet and really kept to themselves even with the children they had with them, but it was not very primitive due to that was a huge bummer to hear a generator going all night long and to be lit up like Fort Knox Also, one of the problems with that is, we were specifically told that even if it was a battery powered generator, they were strictly not allowed, but yet there was clearly that rule is not enforced ADULT Noises Again, memorial day weekend there's drinking going on but for my first time experience here without going into detail, some people sound like chickens being strangled when it's ADULT TIME and you may want to pack a pair of headphones for your small children so that when they hear animals of the night, that sound like rabbits fighting for their life in the tent next to you that they are not scared by the two legged wildlife if you know what I mean lol Roads/car traffic/ATV Traffic was busy again. I'm going to say it was because of the fact that was memorial day but speeding is a major problem if you're planning on walking your little ones to the bathroom you will need to keep a hold of them because it's NASCAR from ATVs to side-by-side they go fast Bathrooms Clean BUT you can see through the curtains which made me really nervous because in my brain if I can see you, you can see me so I ended up bringing clothes pens and a super big beach towel to hang over the curtain Washer and dryer There is a washer and dryer on site that is free to use. It's pretty awesome because nobody really leaves their clothes in there too long and everyone shares it amazing. Lake/fiahing Fishing was absolutely amazing. There's multiple different boat ramps that you can go in Fish off of or you can bank Fish. Do keep in mind that you will need your fishing license because we did get stopped an the 2 men next to us did get a hefty fine for fishing without a license With this being said, I do plan to go again, but I'm going to try to veer away from Big holidays, just due to the fact of the strangled chicken situation read more

So My wife and I bought a new camper and stayed at the park Fri and sat nights. The park was clean the water crisp and the weather nice. The best thing was the Camp host, Rudy and His Wife. while we were there we had a little car trouble but Rudy camp host to the rescue. He took me and my wife to the store and stayed rt there with me. we got the part fixed trk and Rudy and His Wife was about in love with Jesus as we, They have the most wonderful disposition and WERE THE MOST AWESOME PEOPLE WE COULD HAVE BEEN BLESSED ENUFF TO BE AROUND. God had us in The Right place and the Help already in place. We are already planning to come back and spend another 3-5 days. read more

We had a blast tent camping here at the park. Bathrooms were clean, environment was friendly and nice. Pet friendly. Safety focused. The property was well kept. Rentals were easy enough to get/do. We didn't know the water was not swimmable so other than that 5 stars from me. read more

Beautiful! The 3 hour drive we had to get here was so worth it. A stop into the visitor center is a must. Museum has a good display of all the wars. Friendly workers and we're able to answer questions and help us plan our day of kayaking. The lake is large. Even close to the well maintained boat ramp we felt safe with kayaks. Wildlife surrounds the lake. Eagles, turtles,snakes, spiders and fish. Cypress trees to pines, Spanish moss swaying and birds chirping in every cove. Take the time to go into the cove with the fresh water spring. The only bad part was the number of people drinking while swimming and boating in the cove. The campgrounds are well maintained and should be booked in advance. read more

Nice park - I didn't stay long so I don't have an opinion on most of the amenities. Golf course - an 18-hole, reasonably priced public course. Make your tee time reservation through Lake Blackshear Resort. http://www.lakeblackshearresort.com/golf/ The park has a fairly impressive military vehicle display, including three tanks, a B-29 bomber, a Huey helicopter and more. Fishing, camping, but not much in the way of hiking. Just a couple of short, easy trails. read more

This has always been a great park, but it appears the the lease operator may not be performing maintenance on the campground electrical hookups. Reserved #15 site 29 Mar2020 and when I arrived that evening. Electrical box was inoperative and in state of disrepair. The office was closed but I contacted the volunteer host who immediately responded and temporally restored power until the morning , then in daylight he repaired the box. It is and has always been my opinion that volunteers could run each of the states campgrounds with more efficiency and lower cost than profit seeking contractors. I can not help but think all the GA State Parks are too expensive for young and old alike. A weekend here by the water is more or less $150.00 for electric and water only. Speak to you GA legislator person and ask why the campsites are so expensive, after all they are a taxpayer supported resource. Many of the park lands where given or leased to the state for public use, not to enrich corporate resort operators. My personal opinion is that like so many things, our politicians have sold us out for a piece of the cash pie. read more

Haunted trail ride was done very well. Good date night outing or large groups. Good combination of scary and creative. Dark, lights, sounds, creepy feeling things. Felt very safe but fun! read more

A great place to camp or rent the cabins. The campgrounds are very clean and spaced apart from each other. Unlike private campgrounds, you have plenty of room to camp and enjoy your site. The resort is golf cart and pet friendly. The marina has pontoon boats to rent after you watch a safety video about boating which lasts about 40 minutes. All staff members are very nice. The campgrounds do Not have full sewage hookup so expect to hold your grey and black water tanks until you depart. Each camping ground has 100 amps of power at each box. 1-30 amp, 1-50 amp, and a 20-amp receptacle as well. There are 2 water faucets at each site. All camp sites are level with pea gravel with a picnic table and grill. There is a fire ring with a grill top if you wish to use it. They also have a gravel rock area at one side which is typically the entrance door side of your RV. So mud or water is never an issue. You won't struggle to park your big truck and long RV trailer because all the sites have very long driveways. The cabins are nice too. HVAC systems are very strong. The cabins are basic but very roomy. Tile and vinyl in the main rooms and carpet in the two quiet bedrooms that are separated by a large bathroom which stops any noise coming through the walls. The screened in porch is nice and overlooks the water on all cabins. They even have a dishwasher. There is a very large hot water heater in each cabin. Towel exchange is done each day by a walk around housekeeper who hands you a large bag of towels and supplies and asks if you need anything else. read more

What a lovely place. This is a big park. We stopped to have a picnic and found a small visitor center, several displays of military equipment and plenty of undeveloped land. The visitors center is small but clean and the staff was friendly. Right outside the visitors center was displays showing large guns, tanks, helicopters with display board explaining them. It was a great place for a picnic or just a place to enjoy the outdoors. I recommend this place for anyone who appreciates the outdoors and static displays. read more

I've been coming to this park in the fall since I was a child, it's something of a family tradition. The prices you pay for accomodations is steadily rising while the upkeep of the grounds is declining. Stayed overnight in a cabin with sticky floors, questionably "clean" sheets, and dust and grime residue built up for what looks like months, if not years. For the prices they charge these days, they can at least have someone come in and clean the things properly. We're all kind of over it. read more

Love that the State of Georgia has attempted to create a resort like atmosphere but if you call yourself a "resort", you need to strive to have resort-like service. Here for a wedding. Parents waited 2 hours for a handicapped room and ended up with a typical room. The wait staff turned off the lights on the wedding party after the rehearsal dinner to tell us we should go. The breakfast buffet was completely empty at some point and 3 or 4 tables had to wait in any food at all. Waitress served "attitude" when we asked if they planned to refill all the items. When you serve a buffet, it has to be monitored for quantity and quality. Apparent that this buffet wasn't. WiFi didn't work in our villa. I know it's a State Park but you have higher expectations for $190/night "resort". Great views of the lake and so much potential for the park experience but the service lacks what one might expect for a "resort." read more

We camped for over a week . We noticed a sewage spill on day 3 and called it to the attention of a uniform Ed person 2 days later we told the office. 5 days later the dump station was still covered with toilet paper. Obviously they are slobs. read more

My family and I love to come here to just get away from home. The lake is nice and peaceful and the people are friendly. I would like to see the grass/lawns mowed more often but it is a state park. We have found that when it gets busy, it's best to come back on days that it's not so busy. The "beach" is good enough for me that I can come here and still feel like I took a mini-vacation. I would prefer to see the lake a bit cleaner but knowing that there are corporations up along the Flint River (which feeds the lake) polluting it is a bit discomforting. So, when I go swimming, I keep it short. This is not the park's fault though. The nature walks are fantastic. Lots of deer and wildlife to see. The park puts on a FABULOUS Halloween event for the kids and family. Last year (2013) was a blast! Highly recommend. Went to the park on July 4, 2014 for the fireworks and we had a very nice time. read more

I had a bad experience just reserving my camp site. The website is geared toward the resort, yes a state funded park's site directs you to a private resort when you want to reserve a camp site or any other activity. If you call the resort, since the site want you to, the employees say it is so they can tell you if anything is available. So I asked and she said she doesn't know. I called the head of state parks and explained the problem and told the young woman working at the park office, but she says she doesn't have anything to do with it. Finally, I begged her to tell her boss to just try to reserve a camp site on the website. We'll see. The second we arrived, our tiny fifteen year old terrier jumped out to pee. Oh Lord....its the end of the world. The camp host (there are quite a dew of these pseudo chiefs) rode his gold cart over to give us a lecture. We only needed two minute to get the leash and our dog doesn't harm cats or birds or even guinea pigs and wouldn't have been away from us more than a few minutes, but we still needed the lecture. Worst trails. You are always near a camp site or a road. This place is for golfing and fishing not true hikers and campers. read more
