First time at this Office and a little nervous about the pending procedures. The Office staff put me at ease immediately and I knew I had made a good choice for my appointment. All the dental assistants and technicians were patient and friendly and took the time to explain what was happening. Dr. Derkas was lovely and ​took the time to explain options. Dr Boquel and Dr Durkee are both excellent at doing implants. They have done several implants on my husband and myself. BUT after my last visit they no longer were going to accept my Cigna dental plan and my bill was for over $4400 out of pocket!! I do not like the way he handled the financial part of his practice. Since he began my Implant taking my dental discount card I think he should have continued to take it until the implant is finished. the medical part of my experience was ok. work done ok but not really a professional experience were quick to tell me i was financially responsible for parts if i lost them, but they didn't even have what i needed. when they said, after i pressed them, the parts would be shipped to my dentist fedex, the attitude was that they did me a favor, and i should be grateful. not a pleasant thing to say. i would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I was referred to Dr. Boquel through my dentist for the crown lengthening procedure, so I can get the crowns later on to prevent my teeth from completed destroyed by my cavities. I'm glad I found Dr. Boquel because both times (I had to go twice for both sides) were virtually pain free, and I am extremely scared of dentist/periodontist and nervous about anything that could happening inside my mouth. Dr. Boquel made sure I understood everything in the procedure and assured me it would be fine, and everything went very well. The staff are very friendly and helpful as well. My insurance would not cover the procedures at first because they said it was cosmetic, Dr. Boquel's office wrote multiple letters to the insurance company and eventually the state insurance board and fought the case. My insurance eventually agreed to cover part of the costs. I hope I would never have to return to his office, but if the need arise again, I would choose Dr. Boquel again! read more

Had never been to a periodontist before, was referred by the second dentist I had seen recently to try to figure out cause of severe tooth pain I had been having for several weeks. Dr. Stanard noticed potential issues on the X-ray that two other dentists had not pointed out. He tested the tooth for nerve reaction and determined it was dead. He offered to extract it that day and I was very lucky he did. As he had suspected, there was infection and it had in fact eaten away at the bone in my jaw. I was eager to be rid of the pain, but was pretty nervous too. I was surprised by how well Dr. Stanard provided the novocaine shots as this process has always been more painful with other dentists. He and his assistant kept me relaxed and in as good of spirits as one could be during such a procedure. I did not have any pain during the extraction. I've got more work to be done over several months to replace the tooth with an implant, but so far would definitely recommend. read more

Actually, my last appointment at this office was with the hygienist, Britta. She's unusually knowledgeable, thorough, and efficient, and inspires confidence through her careful and her thoughtful questions. She's also very charming and a lot of fun. I don't know that I've ever had a better experience in a cleaning. Dr Boquel has managed my periodontic care for more years than I care to remember. He's exceptionally careful, thorough, and knowledgeable, and has always presented my options clearly. I feel confident he's coordinating well with my dentist and catching things others might not catch. He's also compassionate, and his pride in good work is obvious. Staff are uniformly skilled, helpful, and unusually thoughtful and friendly. It's a great place to experience things you really wish weren't happening. read more

My visit with Dr. Boquel was extraordinary. I went in for a tooth extraction and implant, and after several hours of scrupulous examination at the tooth site and with the X-rays, he informed me that he wasn't going to pull the tooth. He explained why, answered all of my obviously confused questions, and treated me with compassion, patience and meticulous demonstrations as to what exactly was going on with the tooth and why he made his decision. Dr. Boquel is warm and personable, setting his patients at ease and truly making them feel like he cares. My only very small comment is that I would have appreciated a little more conversation about what was going on during the procedure. However, I know that most people probably don't want to know. I feel so fortunate to have discovered Dr. Marc Standard, the absolutely BEST dentist in the Washington DC area, maybe in the United States! Even when I got bad news yesterday-- ANOTHER cavity-- I left the office feeling well-informed by a doctor who really cares about his patients. I traveled about one hour to the Gaithersburg office for a regular cleaning because I thought Dr. Stanard would do the cleaning. It turned out that he was in the middle of some surgery and Michelle would do the cleaning instead. At first I was disappointed but Michelle did a terrific job-- she is the best just like Dr. Stanard told me. She was so sensitive to all my concerns, and she has a great personality too, always nice when you are at the dentist. I saw Dr. Dierkes for swollen tissue above my left upper tooth that had been bleeding and very sensitive. My dentist told me it needed to be checked/treated immediately because she suspected Gingivitis. I found Dr. Boquel & Associates online and made an appointment with Dr. Bierkes. I was seen right away and was very impressed with her knowledge, honesty and hospitality as well as taking time to explain the treatment procedure and the necessary follow up appt. My one disappointment was not a fault of this practice - I was told that my dental insurance did not cover this procedure and it cost me $700. The receptionist was very helpful and scanned my regular medical insurance card just in case the treatment is covered under their program since it involved gum tissue as opposed to tooth treatment. read more

I can't recommend Dr. Boquel highly enough. Two extractions with implants and it was virtually pain free. He and his staff listened to my concerns with pain management (I'm tough and breastfeeding so I didn't want any prescription pain medication) and responded accordingly. Accepts Delta Dental insurance and was very willing to work with me on what work I wanted to have immediately and what would be okay to wait on because of my coverage. My mother-in-law is a self proclaimed baby about dental procedures and she said he's the only one she'll use. This was seriously my best experience dental work. Dr. Boquel and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I will return if I need any more work. He's in Gaithersburg Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday; and has hours in Chevy Chase (I think) the rest of the week. read more

Dr Dierkes does excellent work. Just had my implant done yesterday and they are very accommodating. Unfortunately, they really pinch as much money out of you like an additional $135 to use Nitrous Oxide. Additionally, they require a scan that takes 30 seconds to do and charge over $500 (insurance doesn't cover this). Another issue is that they don't take Care Credit and don't offer financing plans so you have to save up before your appointment or you will be stuck with a mega bill. Another major issue is they only provide a prescription for ibuprofen for an implant. The pain is beyond excruciating and that doesn't help even in the least bit. Not sure how they think that ibuprofen will take care of pain after slicing open your gums, drilling into the bone, screwing the implant in and then stretching the gums over top and stitching them. The procedure was done very well but they really need to offer better payment options and the prices. Moreover I was told at the evaluation appointment that the uncovering appointment 3 months after the implant would be no additional charge and was covered under the payment for the implant. After the implant when paying and scheduling they said that appointment will be another $229 and is not covered by insurance. I don't think I will use them again if I need another implant. I feel swindled after all this and now have no choice for the next appointment since they already did the implant. read more

What an exceptionally skilled doctor. I am unfortunately a repeat customer....unfortunate because I have needed several extractions in a row. Fortunate though because I am lucky enough to have the very skillful Dr. Boquel as my doctor. Needing major dental work is upsetting but Dr. Boquel and his staff treat me with such concern that I am able to deal with having multiple teeth extracted. I didn't feel pain during or after the procedures. I didn't need pain medication post op. Dr Boquel simply knows what he is doing and skillfully performs. My mouth heals very well after Dr. Boquel performs. He even helped me find an equally exceptional dentist when I was upset about my dental restoration. He decided not to perform the extraction procedure on.me at the time as I was visibility upset about needing an extraction. He took the time to refer me to Dr. Milliron, call Dr Milliron to explain.my concerns and ensure that Dr. Milliron gave me equally phenomal care and assurances about my dental care post extraction. Dr Boquel treated the whole person not just my mouth. Great office staff in Gaithersburg. The whole office in Maryland makes the patient feel cared for...the DC office not so much (not horrible just not consistently caring and customer service oriented. The staff in DC have a bit of an edge to them) I get major work done in MD and go to the DC office for minor checks for the convenience. I do not mind driving to Gaithersburg for the exceptional service from the staff. It is so worth it to have calming experience. However, at either location one gets an exceptionally skilled doctor. In an emergency I ended up in Dr Boquel's chair in DC and I feel lucky to be Dr. Boquel's patient. read more

I would NOT recommend Dr. Boquel's office. After having my procedure done, (literally the minute I was done) I was escorted to the payment/billing woman and we set up my monthly payment. (As my mouth was numb and I was in SO MUCH pain.) Then last month, I saw they withdrew 3x the amount of my usual monthly payment without my knowledge so I called the office and they didn't see anything wrong. In the amount of time I've been making payments (about 13 months) I only received a receipt ONCE. Never knew my remaining balance - or that I had a certain amount of time to pay it off. The man I spoke to at the front desk told me they're a "small office" and don't sent out bills/payment receipts, etc. BEWARE! Small office or not, payment scheduling should be done well before the procedure(s) and paper or even email bills/payment receipts should be sent each MONTH. I didn't get any of that. They said they could've taken me to court "but chose not to". So instead, they took the remaining balance of my procedure out of my bank account and I had no idea. (And then a few days later, I got a statement that I paid off my procedure with a "thank you".) NEVER give them (or ANY doctor's office) your bank account information/card number - and NEVER sign a paper saying they are authorized to make payments on your card. Crazy me thought it would only be the amount we discussed, but they'll just decide that you need to pay off your procedure and drain your bank account. I will never go back there and you shouldn't give him any of your money either. read more
