This review is for Kelly Hu, DDS who practices at the same location under Sun Dental. After my family had to switch dentists after seeing the same provider for the past 20+ years, we found Sun Dental through a friend. I've been to Dr Hu now for multiple routine dental cleanings as of now. The office space itself is quite conscious of COVID19 precautions, including plexiglass between front desk staff and patients, they have signage that allows for patrons to wait in their cars and the staff will contact you of when to come inside, they place chairs facing in alternate directions for social distancing, everyone wears masks and providers wear face shields. They also provide you with sunglasses when you are sitting in the dental chair to shield your eyes from that bright overhead light. Although at times with some of the hygienists, they can be quite rough when flossing, I think overall they are quite thorough. The front desk staff are quite kind, they know you by name as soon as you enter and are able to help fit you into a busy schedule. Dr Hu I think is a reliable and respectable provider. I received an antibiotic injection for an inflammed gum. I at first wasn't too sure whether I would receive it, but she explained if I were part of her family she would recommend it just the same. She explained risk/benefits/out of pocket payment up front. She explained contingency planning with future return precautions, potential referrals and follow-up visit planning. On a subsequent visit, I had an X-ray completed and she explained in-detail what I was looking at, what she was concerned about, what was reassuring, etc. Tips/Takeaways: -They take COVID19 safety precautions seriously -From the front desk staff to hygienists to providers, they are up front about bills, they know you, well, they explain risk/benefit/payments -Would highly recommend Dr Hu! read more

If you want a dentist that will go the extra mile for you, go to Dr. Richard Sun. I have been going to Dr. Sun since 2004 and I keep going back because he not only takes excellent care of my teeth, but he takes the time to talk to you, listen to you, and knows who you are. Whenever I go to get a teeth cleaning, I never feel like I am just a number. On the contrary, I always feel like I'm visiting an old friend when I see Dr. Sun and we catch up twice a year! It is the best to have a dentist that is like a friend and treats you like friend, rather than a dentist who is a stranger. When I needed a nightguard, Dr. Sun made sure I got it and had it covered under insurance (so I didn't have to pay a penny for it). When I needed teeth whitening, again, Dr. Sun hooked me up with extra peroxide gel all the time. Everyone always compliments on how nice and white my teeth look... and it is all thanks to Dr. Sun! You won't find another dentist that cares for customers more than Dr. Sun, and you will always get most professional care and treatment at his practice. After 10 years of going to Dr. Sun, I have never had a bad dentist appointment. The teeth cleanings are comfortable and very detailed. My teeth stain easily so extra work needs to be done to make sure all the spots are gone. And Dr. Sun takes care of them all! This review is long overdue and I wanted to give my dentist the props he deserves. Dr. Sun has been my dentist my whole life. I have nothing but nice things to say about Dr. Sun. He is a professional at his practice and is truly is a friend to my family. My parents & relatives, and now husband have been coming to his office forever. He has a great culture at his office and the staff that work here exude this positive energy in every way. I can't explain how much I trust Dr. Sun with his guidance when it comes to dental work. He is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and listens well. I hear horror stories all the time about other dentists which I cannot relate to because the only experience I've had have been good (which is really ironic when you think about going to a dentist). Its a shame I no longer live in the Maryland area but I always make it a point to save my dental appointments for when I see my parents who still live in Gaithersburg. If you live in the DC Metropolitan area and are looking for a dentist, you shouldn't look further than Dr. Sun. Dr. Sun has been my dentist for the last 15 years. I'm happy to have found someone that is young, knowledgeable, and understands me as his client. It is hard to find people that I can trust to provide quality service that I seek for not only myself, but also my family of 4. He is GREAT with kids, as he has children of his own. While my son won't always listen to me, Dr. Sun has somehow found the magic touch to get my son to listen to him, making the whole process painless for my son and myself. My appointment times are always on time and respected, which may not seem important right now, but become very relevant when you have to get back to the office for a meeting or to pick up your child from school/daycare. It seems small, but being able to have an appointment that is honored helps me to plan my day without allocating a 3 hour window, like I would for other doctor appointments with 30-45 minute waits. He is a very knowledgeable dentist that is patient enough to listen to you and provide honest assessments and feedback. Every time I speak with Dr. Sun, he is enlightening me about the latest technology and practices taking place in the dental industry, so it's great to know he is keeping up. I always know what to expect during my visits and appreciate Dr. Sun and his team with providing me information that helps me plan for the future visits (especially ways to be more proactive vs. reactive). Most important to me is the experience I receive throughout the process - from the engagement with the front desk, to the hygienist, to Dr. Sun. The entire process is painless and completely professional. Always on time and never rushed. Dr. Sun will elevate your expectations of all doctors in any field of practice. UPDATE: FIXED! Dr. Sun reached out to me. He took off the broken crown and outfitted me with a new one, and there was a lot of deft care and patient communication demonstrated throughout the experience. To cap it all, he waved me off when I tried to pay. I mean, who *does* that? True props to a great dentist. And so ends this chapter of Teeth: The Agony and the Misery. You can bet that between cavities, a botched root canal, malocclusion and TMD issues I've got a lot of tales of woe at the dentist, so to encounter a great one is a relief! P.S. Never Ever Go there again for teeth cleaning!!!! First, Dr. Sun did not clean my teeth, there's a lady who did not introduce herself and told me to laid down and started checking my wisdom teeth then advised me she will refer me to see an experience surgeon, which is fine. After that she started cleaning my teeth by using Fine hand tools(scalers/curettes) for approximately around 10 mins plus rinsed it, that's the first step of what she did. Second step she polished all my "side and front" teeth, did not polish inside my teeth and it only take her less than 5 mins for the polished, after that, she said "done". This is ridiculous!! In my knowledge, I totally believe that she is missing at least 1 step which apply fluoride. To be honest, this is the final, and my favorite part of the dental cleaning!!! I asked couple friends about their teeth cleaning experience and I had told that whoever does your teeth cleaning was missing something. Most of my friends said your doctor did not include free X-rays. I really had a deep feeling that they were trying to finish their job "ON TIME" before serving the next customer appointment instead of making the customer to wait. I even saw that lady was playing her phone after finished cleaning my teeth. Very unprofessional. The way she does her job it's like the nails tech people who work in the nails shop. VERY RUSH AND TRYING TO KEEP THEIR CUSTOMER ON TIME SO THEY WONT FALL BEHIND ON THE CUSTOMER APPOINTMENT. I'm very upset, when I paid $95.00 for that kind of cleaning and disappointed. I know $95.00 can be cheap on teeth cleaning but it can be expensive when I had that kind of teeth cleaning from that lady. I used to refered my friends to Dr. Sun every time when I had teeth conversation with them, but now, not any more!!! I will noticed people who I knew "do not even try Dr. Sun" he don't even do his job!!! read more
