It's got just the right mix of bounce, density, and butteriness, without being too greasy. Big, fresh blueberries (not the shriveled kind). Plenty of crumbly streusel on top for extra taste and texture. Their mixed berry has multiple fruit presence and more of it, minus the streusel. Also very good. Sometimes the muffins are warm. Sometimes a little long in the tooth. -- Cakes: That's their claim to fame, and for good reason. They're more expensive than most, but so dense, rich, and heavy that a small slice goes a long way. My favorite is the chocolate raspberry decadence (pool of raspberry atop a deep, dark chocolate frosting). Or maybe the strawberry snowflake, which is like the best strawberry shortcake you ever had. -- Cupcakes: These often feature some of the same ingredients as the cakes, such as that killer chocolate ganache. Great for the toppings and fillings, though the cake part (especially if chocolate base) is often dry. -- Cookies: Noticeably less impressive, EXCEPT for the Linzer heart. Great flavor and texture in the raspberry and shortbread. -- Coffee: Good stuff. Not elite, but good, in heavy mugs with good feel. Service is a little lacking. Not so much because of rudeness, but because they're perpetually understaffed for the amount of business they do.

I saw some chocolate alfajores (my fave), and some other alfajores with what looked like a fruit filling. I asked her what the filling was, and her response was, "Um, I don't know." That is an unacceptable response. She works there, and she should be able to answer questions about every item they sell. To me, that question would be a pretty common one, so "Let me find out" would have been a better response. I bought a few things and I'm sure they'll be good. But I hope they'll train their folks more thoroughly.

Also, they have a limited amount of cupcakes for walk-in customers with around 12 kinds of cupcakes on hand, so they are open until they sell out on the weekend. The pricing (in 2022) for each signature cupcake is $5.50 each, $20 for 4, $27 for 6 and $48 for 12. I stopped by Maine Girl Cupcakes at opening time and there was a line crammed into the very small shop. I picked out 6 cupcakes to enjoy back at my home which is halfway to Maine, lol. I got: Orono Oreo (cookies-n-creme cupcake, cookies-n-creme buttercream, cookies-n-creme candy bar, chocolate covered Oreo) Camper (chocolate cupcake, marshmallow buttercream, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate drizzle, marshmallows ganache, miniature chocolate bar) Cozy Cocoa (chocolate cupcake, hot cocoa buttercream, chocolate ganache drizzle, marshmallow bits) Southern Belle (red velvet cupcake, cream cheese buttercream) Best Friend's Friend (chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream, chocolate ganache drizzle, chocolate sprinkles) PB Party (chocolate cupcake with peanut butter buttercream, chocolate ganache drizzle, & mini PB cup). The Peruvians enjoyed this familiar treat and the rest of the family got a first taste of Peru and LOVED it! Not only is the baking wonderful, but so is the customer service. Doris herself answered the phone when I called to inquire about ordering! She was happy to tell me about her cookies and advise on what to serve at the wedding.
