We had a guest recently who was kind enough to purchase a little treat for us at Gerardo's. She went with the cannolis, large AND small, and rounded, ball-like pastries which look most similar on their website's menu to one of their "bombs". I devoured one of the big cannolis which was filled with a decadent and delicious cream. I had absolutely no complaints but I do recall hearing some complaining from the other parties involved in the kitchen. I asked GF for her impression of the pastries but she's currently occupied and responded, "idk babe". Unfortunately fooled by the luxury of time I elected to save my ball-like pastry for later after which the box made its way to the dungeon of one of our fridge shelves where the sunlight doesn't shine and I completely forgot until it was too late. Super big selection of baked goods. Got the macaroons, carrot cake, Boston creme cupcake, cannolis, and lobster tail. Each were pretty good for what's available in the area. Favorite was the Boston creme. Everything else could have been better but I've been exposed to Boston bakeries like /Mike Modern Pastry. Would probably be better if they focused on a few things versus increasing the variety. read more

I don't know why I keep trying chocolate based desserts here. (Over a dozen times!!) They're re always drier than tree bark - cupcakes, cake, Whoopi's pies, etc. How can you make everything else so well and completely fail when it comes to a simple piece of chocolate cake?? read more

Best neighborhood dessert run place! The place is so colorful and lit once you enter that you almost don't want to leave!

Ordered a rum cake for my mother's birthday. Was told they come in two sizes - a bar shaped smaller one and a larger square one. I ordered the larger one with Happy Birthday written on it. When I arrived to pick it up, it was the smaller version with nothing written on it. I told the woman at the counter that it was the wrong cake - she went into the back, came back and told me that this is what they made, asked me how many people we had, and then said "you'll be fine". No offer to discount the incorrect order. The cake had too many decorations on it to write anything, so they put it on a piece of sugar that they threw into a separate box. Fast forward to later that day, imagine my surprise when we cut into the cake to find that it was still frozen - so not even fresh AND it was not a rum cake - no rum at all. It was a yellow cake with some fruit between the layers - which tasted like a popsicle since it was frozen. Will never go to Gerardo's again, it's clear that the owners don't care about their customers and are just looking to make a buck. Stay away if you want something that's truly Italian, because you won't get it here. read more

Got some cannoli from Gerardo's. Plain and pistachio. The cannoli are neat and ornate. Shell is not great. No flavor, needs some sugar dusting. Also is slightly soggy in the center and does not have satisfying crunch. The filling is creamy and has excellent thick mouthfeel. Good ricotta flavor, sweet and satisfying. The pistachio filling has a light green appearance, I think food coloring was used as it has a synthetic sweet flavor, like syrup or extract, slightly fruity almost like strawberry. The ends have some crumbs of what I believe are pistachios. This needs more real pistachio for complexity and depth of flavor. While Gerardo's plain cannoli have a satisfying ricotta filling, the pistachio falls short. In addition, the shell does not maintain crispiness nor does it deliver a nice fried dough flavor, which one expects from a cannoli shell. I recommend sticking with the plain cannoli, or chocolate dipped. read more

My birthday cake was completed on time, and as ordered. It looked beautiful. When we cut the cake at the end of the party, I was disappointed. The chocolate cake and mousse filling was just okay. The icing was terrible. Especially the yellow. It tasted like wax. I ate my piece of cake but skipped all the icing. Need some better recipes. read more

If I could leave a 0 star I would. This is the second time that they have messed up our order. We ordered (ahead of time) chocolate cake with raspberry filling for a birthday. You can imagine our surprise when we cut into this to find a vanilla with vanilla frosting. The cakes are high priced to match the quality that you get, yet you get a wrong cake and it makes it no better than a grocery store cake for 3x the price. read more

Stumbled upon this while shopping at Traders Joe. It looked really busy inside lots of people in and out. Went to check it out and they gave so much pastries, cookies, cakes to choose from! Finally decided to try their strawberry chiffon Swiss roll cake ad it's big! There is no tax and it's pretty affordable given the size of the slice. The chiffon was nice and sweet. The cake was nice not too sweet but slightly dry. I'd like to come back and try other desserts. read more

I very much liked the ricotta pie squares/ very very good. Chocolate filled cannoli also very good. Vanilla cannoli was good too. Did not like the eclair- filling was not real pastry cream and tasted artificial. Looking at some of the cakes in the display case I could tell the frostings were shortening- not what Iike. Not great. Wifey and I spent 5 minutes perusing the MASSIVE selection, and the workers kept asking if we were ready. Service had bad observational skills, I guess. We settled on a lobster tail and a limoncello cake. There's no indoor seating, so we sat outside in an attempt to enjoy our little treats. Limoncello cake was no good, tasted like box cake but had the consistency of a brick, atleast it wasn't dry. The lobster tail was hard as a rock, you could seriously bonk someone with that thing. Bring a steak knife if you wanna crack one of those suckers open. The cream was a good consistency, but once again, tasted like it came from walmart. Eduardo should seriously consider not mass-producing hundreds of pastries (because they end up sitting in the cases for days) and focus on fewer, better tasting pastries. Quality over quantity, yes? Given the convenient location, I really wanted to like this place. I had previously tried the cupcakes when they first opened and was surely disappointed. Upon leaving TJ's today, I decided to give this Gerardo's another shot. I bought the chocolate truffle bomb and a piece of chocolate cake. The chocolate bomb had a combination of what tasted like boxed chocolate cake and a layer of chocolate pudding that you used to buy at school lunches when you were in grade school, enclosed by a layer of chocolate shell. The piece of chocolate cake was nothing short of an atrocity as it has frosting that tasted no better than the generic grocery store canned frosting. I would highly recommend taking an extra minute to hop over to the bakery at Whole Foods where you will have a much better culinary experience. The staff was friendly, unlike what others had experienced, so they get an extra star for that. I am not mad, I am just disappointed. Bought multiple desserts and it was plain. It looks way better than it tastes. Save yourself some time and money and look at other bakeries. The employees are nice but they don't use gloves when touching the desserts which is really unsanitary. It's also expensive. One little slice of cake is $5. And little cupcakes are around $4. Everything with frosting there has too much of it. Very disappointing. Will not be returning. read more

Small cake was crushed in box. I have seen them put the very same cake in plastic container, which fits well and is aesthetically pleasing. Been to Gerardo's multiple times. I've tried their brownies, cookies and cakes. I recently tried their cake pops and they seemed too mushy inside from what I've had at other establishments. My favorite bakery item from Gerardo's would be their cakes. Every cake we have bought from here is always a hit at birthday parties. I've also enjoyed their cheesecakes. The staff help out quickly but are not overly friendly. Easy location next to Total Wine and Trader Joe's. I'll definitely be back for a cake next time I need one! read more

Upon walking in I was impressed with the decor and how cute this bakery looked with the display of treats was really colorful and fun! We picked out a few cannolis and a strawberry ricotta cake I was impressed with all of them. I want to start by saying that I have absolutely loved each pastry I have bought from them. The thing is, I have to mentally prepare myself to deal with the rude staff. I don't know exactly what's up with EVERY single one of them! It's crazy. I believe is their ring leader, a short impertinent red headed woman. I don't know if what they say about gingers having no soul but she gives great evidence towards the argument. Also, avoid peak time (Friday or Saturday evenings!) They don't have a good system of knowing who was there first and since there are no clearly defined lines or numbers fights may erupt. This place has great potential based on the convenience of their location but their customer service and organization is crap. read more

The treats were SO GOOD. I got two mini canoli, one cookies and cream and one tiramisu, and a mile high strawberry ricotta slice. The strawberry was by far my favorite but the canoli was great too. I've eaten all three Gerardo's and I was very disappointed with this location. I watched one server doing nothing while people were waiting. The sun was beating down through the window which probably isn't the best for the cakes and was especially uncomfortable, how about some shades.
