My husband and I had lunch here and the food was perhaps the worst Mexican food we have eaten. This is a fast food restaurant so you order and pay at the counter, but there was no excuse for the poor quality of food that was served. The chicken enchilada had dry chunks of chicken that were like sawdust in my mouth. The food had been microwaved so it was excruciatingly hot on the edges and ice cold on the inside. If they had to microwave it, there was no excuse for them not to have at least stirred the food before they served it. No one else was in the restaurant the entire time we were there so it wasn't that they were busy. When we left we wanted to give someone feedback, but there was no one around. We finally took our uneaten food to the front counter hoping to talk to someone, but after waiting for a few minutes and seeing no one, we placed our uneaten plates on the counter and left. read more

Boy am I glad I didn't order the meal....i couldn't even get through half of it. It was humongous. And delicious. We also ordered half sized super nachos with chicken. Again...good thing. Well got dang, Gerardo's as the youngin's say SLAPS!!! Ima Lengua guy! I haven't had a Lengua street taco that good since I was in Cali! Oh and the salsa self serve bar...dang they got that right too! Now I can't say the ground beef burrito was the best...but ground beef ain't really a true Mexican meat. With a few other options for Mexican food in Cheney, Gerardo's is always my go-to. They have great service and orders never take too long. Being a San Diego native, I find their food is very comparable to the authentic cuisine from down south. Recommended for sure! read more

Just a couple of blocks from the EWU campus and open all day. You order from a board at the front, pay, and seat yourself. I would say the food is pretty good but the service was excellent. The server/cashier was very friendly and helpful. The burritos are huge and filled full. The French fries are thin, crispy, and oh so delicious! The tostado was layered with a small amount of refried beans, lots of carnitas, lettuce and barely any cheese, which was surprising, and disappointing. No sour cream or guacamole either but you have a choice of 3 house made sauces - orange (slightly sweet, not super hot, and the one I preferred), green (medium hot), and red (screaming hot). Terrible costumer service every time. it stunk today, it's filthy, and my order is incorrect truly half of the time. I called them out this time when they tried to say it's always "the tablets fault"....no sir, you just spoke between you 2, realized you messed up the order, then lied to me. Because you didn't know I speak Spanish :) so I opened the container right there on the counter. AWFUL. I'd let it go and just not order again - had they not just pulled that BS on me. Pay attention and quit blaming platforms for you making the wrong order then lying about it. There are other options around here for far better food, with better customer service, in cleaner establishments. Also the salsa sits out uncovered all day. I've now tried the food and am just tossing it. I think it's gotten worst the last few years because this is not flavorful or appetizing, I don't think it was this bad 3 years ago. This place doesn't look like much, but the food is SOO good! It's a small place with no frills; you order at the counter, and grab your own seat. They do bring your food to your table, though, and the food quality itself is way above fast food. The menu is huge - I had a hard time deciding on what to get. I ended up getting the chicken quesadillas and chips with guacamole. The guac was so creamy and it was a perfect ratio of guacamole to chips. My chicken quesadillas were huge (I couldn't even finish them). Everyone in my group agreed that the portions were big -- some people ordered burritos and they also weren't able to finish them. I think this is a good place to come and split a few different menu items so that you're able to try more than one menu item. Most likely, you'll still have leftovers to take home! read more

OK so I give this place two stars primarily because the salsa was amazing and the chips were actually warm and fresh. Other than that the amount of food that we bought for our family I just wasn't feeling it! The carne asada had way too much lime and I didn't like the taste. The kids didn't like the rice it was not fresh and kinda of hard. Please Don't mention the beans it seemed they were watered down. Extremely runny. Gerardo's is a great lil place along the main drag of Cheney. Every time we meet our friends at williams lake for some boating, we always stop at Gerardos on our way home, so 15-20 times a summer! Their portions are huge, so plan on taking leftovers home, and the prices are very reasonable. 10 people I think was $66? Everything I have had on the menu is great. Their guacamole is made fresh every day, and is always spot on. Wait, I take that back... Their chili verde is "OK"... But I'm a real snob when it comes to chili verde. Definitely cheap eats, perfect for a college town. They are also open late. I do recommend Gerardos, you won't be dissapointed. read more

I do love me some Gerardo's. Whatever location. San Diego Mex is pretty polarizing, but I love the stuff. Cheap cuts, plenty of sauce/rice/beans, and all ready for my tortilla. This location does a big take-out business, and we of course have enjoyed them on nights we didn't feel like cooking, but we really do like to sit down and experience the brick & mortar. There's always a nice Señorita taking care of the front of the house, and a talented cabellero on the griddle. What sets them apart from the other two Mex joints in this town is their salsa bar. Fresh, plentiful, and flavors from spicy to mild. As many industrial chips as you wish to have (self serve), and limes on demand, as well. The other places in town do not offer that. I remember chatting with one of the owners when they were remodeling the building, and he told me they weren't sure they could make it out in Cheney. Created a yelp account just to post this. I've worked in food service for 6 of my 8 year work history, and what happened tonight is so infuriating I had to share it. I've been to this place a lot since it opened, and kept coming back even though the food quality has fluctuated. I do love a good greasy burrito place and it was nice having one down the street from my house. However, I won't be going back after tonight. I went in and ordered my usual shredded chicken burrito with lettuce, cheese, and Pico de Gallo added. What I got was the pollo asada burrito with guacamole instead of the pico. I really don't like guacamole and can't eat it, it makes me nauseous. The girl who took my order was sitting down at the table across from mine (where she usually is if she's not taking or running orders), and I said "I'm sorry, but this isn't what I ordered". Now, having worked food service for so long I know what it's like to have a dick head customer yell at you over the slightest transgressions, imagined or not. So, every where I go i try to be as polite as I can. I really don't like to send food back, I know what a pain it is. However, they weren't busy and I spent my last 10 bucks for the food, so I spoke up. The "waitress" told me it was my fault for not being specific when I ordered and told me I in fact ordered the pollo asada. I corrected her, and simply requested she have my burrito replaced. She was rude during the whole interaction, to the point where I gave up and asked for my money back. She snapped "do you want the burrito or your money?". I took the money because at this point I had lost my appetite. She only refunded my burrito instead of my whole tab which had a drink on it too, but I had enough at that point and just wanted to leave. At the restaurant I worked at, if anyone had talked to a customer like that, they would have been fired on the spot. We also refunded the whole tab in the event of a truly unhappy customer. I don't know how a place can expect to stay open with service like that. I walked out, but decided this was serious enough to speak to a manager, so I went back in only to be informed that she is the manager, as unbelievable as that is. So, I will be returning tomorrow to speak to the owner. I won't be giving them any more of my money and I suggest you don't either, there are two other Mexican places in cheney with better food and amazing service. read more

Went here once and won't be back. The food quality was very poor. I ordered a burrito thinking I couldn't go wrong, but was proven wrong. The burrito was so-so, and just wasn't very good for a Mexican restaurant. The rice was flavorless, and the beans were burnt. I have heard a lot of similar complaints from many of my friends as well. From the outside, it looks like a friendly, family styled Mexican restaurant that you would sit down and be waited on. Unfortunately, it's more fast food styled where you order and pay, and then wait for your food. The staff was very distracted and not very helpful or friendly. Cleaning was also clearly not a high priority as many of the tables were dirty and yet to be wiped down. I would definitely avoid this place, and if you're looking for good Mexican food, I would recommend Arturo's. Much higher food quality and way friendlier staff. read more

For Mexican food in Cheney this place hits the spot. The food was lean and fresh. The beans actually had flavor, and plenty! The meal looked smaller in the picture. The guacamole was excellent, and the salsa bar was great too. Came in around 2:40, and my only disappointment was that the chips were dark, but being this far after lunch I imagine they were fresh for lunch. They could use a bit more seasoning on some of the plainer meats, but those with veggies turned out good. Will definitely be back. So much better than Taco Bell. Terrible. We won't be back. We almost didn't order because the people in front of us were complaining about their food and the people behind the counter were making excuses and eventually they reluctantly decided to replace the food. We went ahead and ordered. I ordered carne asada. I have had it many times in many places and this is the worst I have ever had. It wasn't marinated. It had no flavor. It was thin like cardboard and made me wonder what I was really eating. It looked shaved. I couldn't cut it with the plastic knife and when I pressed down, water came up from somewhere. Maybe the shredded lettuce underneath the fake guacamole. It was weird. My husband got a torta that was supposed to have bacon on it. It didn't. We were already unhappy and didn't plan to complain. About halfway through eating his sandwich, she came by and put a plate of bacon on our table with no apologies or explanation. We looked stunned but even that didn't produce a response. But the new cashier that started in 2020 has blown my mind with her terrible attitude and rude comments. I love mexican food I grew up eating it all the time and I have continued that throughout my adult life and I am very picky about my mexican food but Gerardos never disappoints! My girlfriend and I stopped in here at the beginning of September not expecting a whole lot and left being their #1 supporter and we go there on average maybe 3-4 times a month. I always get the California Burrito for $5.25 while my girlfriend always switches it up. Burritos are by far the best I have ever had and for the price I don't even bother going anywhere else. Their rice and beans I would honestly only give 1 star they had a funky taste to them however their salsa is on point. Not the best I have ever had but definitely not the worst. I use the lighter red color salsa for chips while I use the green salsa specifically for my burrito, I am a lover of anything spicy with a great flavor and although I don't get that from Gerardos that doesn't take away from the great flavor their salsa adds to the burritos. I will continue to get my California burrito every opportunity I get! read more

Been here three times for lunch. I usually get the burritos, they are HUGE! This place isn't a normal full service restaurant , you go to the counter and order so basically its a taco truck restaurant.. Prices are really cheap, and unlike other reviewers I have not had any bad food *yet*. Everything seems fairly fresh, although the beans are a bit greasy. Staff is always nice. It's hard to find great Mexican food in the Pacific NW. You have to settle for bland most of the time. Then there are places like this... there was a little flavor but that flavor was not good. Their red salsa tasted like a tin can and left an aftertaste in my mouth that inspired nausea for hours. Flies flew rapantly around our window table trying to sip my Jarritos. (Soda selection is their only plus.) Service was bleh. Place was slightly dirty. The Machaca was tasteless and I couldn't eat much of it as the salsa did not help. Other family members ordered fajitas and burritos that disappointed as well. Skip this if you actually like salsa and Mexican food and wish to guard your intestinal tract against the distress this place might cause. read more

Update (3/13/2016): My friend and I went here and she found a hair in her taco. My taco was super greasy (not even edible). It was very disappointing visit after my prior good experiences with Gerardos. :( 2015: I didn't even realize this place was opening until my boyfriend mentioned it! I came home late from a concert, we both decided we needed Mexican food; headed for Toxic Hell until I remembered I saw the "open" sign lit up on Gerardo's. Their first night open! So glad!!! I moved here from Denver and miss Mexican food with kick. This place delivers. I loved the pickled carrot/ jalapeño combo! The service is quick, server was very friendly and happy to chat. The carne asada was really tasty. I had enough for drunken scarfing, to share and for lunch at work tomorrow. My boyfriend loved the dollar tacos; great flavor and price. It can be a little on the greasy side (which is the minus 1 star); especially if you get beef, but am finding the mixed fajita burrito to my liking lately. I would also appreciate bike parking! I really like riding my bike around town and end up having to lock it to the parking rail in the back of the restaurant. read more
