La Plaza de Mexico, the staff are so friendly. We've been eating there for several years, and tecently the menu was sized down leaving the most popular favorites. Our faves are the carni asada, the chili relleno, trio enchiladas, the pork green sauce super tender. A beef dish in red sauce, also tender and delicious. We both like the the mole dish that's really good. (Sorry while writing this I couldn't remember the dish names, but you really can't go wrong) We go with groups, or just as a couple and try something new each visit and haven't found anything we wouldn't recommend. First of all, if I could give a 0 Star Review I would, the service was so bad they were just staring at me and my party standing by the door. No one took the initiative of seating us till we said something. After we were sat not one single waiter came to ask for our drinks. We sat there for a few mins until this young lady asked us "did anyone take your drinks yet" to which we replied no. After taking our orders the tables sat after us all got their food many minutes before us. My mother ordered a mixed fajitas plate which was supposed to include Steak and Shrimp. When the plate arrived there was little to no steak or shrimp less then 5 strips of steak. When I made it aware to the server he proceeded to just smirk and say "mix it around it's in there somewhere". They proceeded to bring more steak out for my mother and they just tossed it on her plate and didn't say a thing. All the food was flavorless and had little to no authenticity about it. Seriously the best chile relleno I've had in my life! We were in, seated, drink in hand within 5 minutes of walking in. The service was fast and friendly and the food was perfect. Two observations from our recent visit: If you order a dinner salad, it will come dry with no dressing. Dressing costs an extra dollar. I asked why dressing costs a dollar when every other place includes it. "We have to buy the dressing and it costs $11 per gallon, so we charge extra." Seriously? They wipe down the tables between guests ... with a wet rag that smelled like it was from the day before and could be smelled from across the room. read more

My only complaint, ever, and it is a small complaint, is that the fajitas I had once were in such big pieces, they were hard to eat. I am sure this has been rectified. Best Mexican food I've found outside of Yuma, AZ! Great quality and fresh ingredients. The shrimp chimichanga is simply amazing! I usually get a seafood/shrimp burrito/chimichanga when I visit a Mexican place. Almost all of them use the tiny salad shrimp, or maybe popcorn shrimp with a bunch of other ingredients that mask the shrimp flavor. Not here! The shrimp were plump and seemed like cocktail shrimp cut into thirds, with mushrooms and other ingredients that enhanced the shrimp. Absolutely delicious! A California transplant, I relocated to Spokane in 2009 and sadly, the Mexican cuisine just never hit the mark. Enter, La Plaza. It's always the hole in the wall joints, I swear. We ventured this on a Monday evening after my daughters ballet class in the same parking lot, on the pure motivation of a quick dinner and hot damn!! I've now found my new spot. This place was hoppin. Every table full--and on a Monday? Nothing but a good sign. I didn't have capacity this weekday eve to explore the drink menu, however I will be back to do so. I ordered the carne asada tacos and they were *chefs kiss* the ONLY place to get it right by serving it with the salsa verde on the side in a legit condiment bottle. When he dropped those salsa sides next to my dish I knew I hit the jackpot. The food was fresh, and delicious. The perfect street taco. My mom ordered the pozole soup and let me tell you this white ass woman has been on the HUNT for a good pozole. Her words "best she's had in Spokane."
