I have twice (silly me) tried to order honey for free local delivery from Gerardz. The first time it was for Christmas gifts so I was on a timeline. They didn't show the day it was supposed to be delivered. I called and said I'd have to cancel and it showed up the day before I left town. ​ The second time my credit card was charged immediately but I never got the honey. After 2 weeks I emailed and called and never got an answer. I even went to the farmers market to ask in person. I was told it should be delivered within a week of ordering. I said it had been 2 weeks and was dismissively told to call with the order number. I tried that again and then sent an email saying I'd have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I started working with Ed at Gerard'Z prior to March 2020 and at that time they were awesome to work with. Communication was great, we had a honey tasting and all of their product was awesome, we were completely in love with using them for our favors. It seemed so easy. We had to postpone our wedding twice and reconnected in July 2021 for our November wedding. Between mid-July and mid-September we had multiple email exchanges, during 3 of these exchanges he told me he would find the label he had been working on in 2020 and send it to me to review, he provided his own timeline of "tonight" or "this weekend" in these emails. When I didn't receive the images I'd let a few days pass then follow up with him, where he would either not respond or again say he would send it to me but never did. Finally, I gave him a call to try to figure out where the communication issue was and it was clear that he was not reading the emails that I sent him with the timing I needed and he had never tried to find the labels in those two months of communication. He was defensive and rude saying that he told me his process and timing when that hadn't been clearly shared with me. He again told me that he would send me the label that night. When I hadn't received it the following morning I decided that I did not need the added stress that this vendor was creating for me so I emailed him to let him know that I wouldn't be needing his services any longer. It's been a month and a half since that email and he never responded. Overall, I tried to give Ed the benefit of the doubt since I know that it's hard for everyone right now but the poor communication caused unnecessary stress. Please give your customers realistic timelines to manage their expectations, this would have improved communication immensely. I would not recommend this service for wedding favors. read more

By far the best tasting honey I've ever had. I was skeptical on honey helping my allergies but they were so bad and I figured it couldn't hurt so I tried it out and my allergy symptoms were barely noticeable!! It's made getting through Spring much more enjoyable. Aside from the allergy relief, the taste and consistency is so much better than the store bought kind. There really is a huge difference. I'll never go back to store honey. Lastly, when I messaged Gerard to find out where I could buy more of his honey he sent me to his website where I ordered it and he personally delivered it to me that night!! I received a gift certificate for Gerard'z Beekeeping Workshop. I missed the initial sessions, but when I called Gerardz months ago, he said he would be scheduling more. That never happened, so I tried to contact Gerardz several times, both by phone and text, to ask if I could use the value of my gift certificate towards honey. Gerardz never answers the phone, instead sends a text to say he is "in a meeting" and will call back. He never does. Ordered honey 16 days ago which advertised free local delivery. I hadn't heard from them after 10 days so I called one day with no answer, I emailed one day with no answer, and finally after 14 days I asked for an update on Instagram in which someone replied to DM the order number. I sent a DM 2 days ago, right after their reply but still no honey and no reply (although my DM shows read) Super strange. All it took was basic communication. I got a Groupon deal for my husband and I to attend a workshop in the Sacramento area. He did a great job of getting the class to feel comfortable to ask questions. We attended the workshop at The Old Sugar Mill which was a little uncomfortable as the outdoor seating was visibly caked with dirt and we had to move around a bit to stay in the shade, but that was not too bad. The presentation was very informative. He went over the basic equipment, what it does,why it works and the costs associated with them. We did not just get to look over these things, but he passed them around so we could really see what he was talking about. I found the statistics interesting, we had a farmer in our class so we learned about how much bee boxes benefit groves and orchard yields..the difference is mind blowing. We concluded the workshop with a honey tasting. I thought it was amazing to taste the very different types of honey right next to each other. The orange blossom was my favorite with light citrus notes, but the buckwheat was the most surprising with deep rich flavor and color, it looked and tasted a lot like molasses. We also had a group wine tasting at The Sugar Mill which was nice. I would definitely recommend going to this workshop if you are even slightly interested in bees, honey or pollination. read more

I believe that it did help in March 2021 (didn't have to take any meds) but the honey nor my prescription meds could help me in April, unfortunately. I still have great tasting honey though! I love that it comes in a glass jar and I can scoop it out instead of having to squeeze it out like the store bought versions. The customer service is second to none. I fought a bee once and won...so I ain't scared. Turns out, even if you are scared of bees you are totally safe if you take this workshop/tasting. The bees are kept in an observational glass type thing so there is really no threat. The class is a basic run down of bee life. Your workers, drones, and queen and what they do all day. It made me think, for a moment, that I could start my own little hive. We then got to taste the honey! All 4 had their own district flavor but the Buckwheat was my favorite. It is like the oatmeal stout of honey! Our workshop was at Retzlaff in Livermore which is an organic winery. The setting was great but I have to say that they were a little stingy on the pours. We only got two and the volume was equivalent to a splash. If you are looking for a nice way to spend an afternoon and learn the basics about bees, this is a good option. The buckwheat had a strong flavor of wheat vs the tangy bright flavor of the Livermore. I was definitely pleased with both and can't wait to taste their other varieties! Reached out to them over a year ago to purchase enough honey to fill 50 1.5 oz jars for my wedding in October 2021. Kept reaching out every few months to make sure they didn't forget me and was told I don't have to order until days in advance. Was given a price estimate April 2021. Purchased what I thought was enough to fill those 50 jars (was not told honey is measured by weight rather than fl oz, sorry I came to the honey experts so I expected to be sold enough honey to fill the jars I mentioned). After purchasing, went back through my records because the price seemed awfully high. When realized I was promised wholesale price then charged retail, I reached out and owners literal response was "Sorry, but that offer in April was not endless." Even though they knew a year in advance when my wedding was, so they shouldn't quote me a price they can't hold up to. And "If you had a problem with the pricing, you should have spoke up before your purchased". It's just sad that I went to them to support local honey businesses and I get mislead and lied to. They tried to use COVID as an excuse for the overcharging, yet I didn't even contact them until AFTER COVID. And they quoted me a price THIS April. read more

My favorites were the avocado and orange blossom, although I loved the star thistle, buckwheat, and pomegranate quite a bit too. I LOVE honey. So I was very excited about Ed's honey tasting/beekeeping workshop this weekend at Retzlaff winery. The setting was wonderful. The honey was delicious. I loved tasting the slight variations of each flavor. My favorites were the Clover and Pomegranate honeys. The clover has just a hint of cinnamon...so delicious. Ed was super knowledgeable about keeping bees. You can tell that he loves what he's doing. He'll answer all your questions, if you're thinking of keeping bees someday or if you just love honey. I'd barely considered keeping bees, but by the end of the intro I was seriously considering getting into it myself. read more

I personally love honey so when I came across Gerard'Z Honeybees at a local winery and got to sample some of them I fell in love. Gerard'Z has a variety of honeys and my particular favorite is the Black Sage Honey. Great as a sweetener in baking and in tea. Even better though is that they also saw raw, organic, locally grown honey. Consuming this kind of honey is one of the best remedies for, and preventative measures against, colds and allergies. The beekeeping workshop was absolutely fun and informative. Ed was such a great instructor. He is very knowledgeable about bees and what they do. We can see that he was very enthusiastic and passionate about what he does. His explanations were straight forward, nothing complicated. I highly recommend going to the workshop if you want to have fun while learning. My only negative comment is that the phone number that was provided here on Yelp and on the website is a personal cellphone of Ed. I left a couple of messages to see if we needed to book an appointment or not. I'm assuming he is getting bombarded with phone calls left and right so I understand the reason why he's not able to return anyone's call. My suggestion is to call the location where you will be attending the workshop then they will let Ed know how many people are coming. Also, no need to book an appointment. You can just show up. All in all, the beekeeping workshop was an awesome experience that's why I'm still giving it 5 stars. read more

We did the beekeeping workshop in Felton at Hallcrest Vineyards. Ed was a patient and friendly teacher. The group asked lots of questions and he answered with humor and knowledge. I feel like I can start a colony now, and the tasting was delicious. The vineyard staff was also great with some nice wine and a beautiful location. Update 6/16: We've continued to do research and started attending santa cruz beekeeper guild meetings and learned that beeping is pretty expensive, bees are pretty complicated, and you have to be willing to be in it for the long haul and gain a lot of hard earned wisdom. Don't go in expecting to have an easy time and think you can get honey within a year. Expect to spend at least a few hundred dollars, take some losses with your colonies, and maybe get some honey in a year or two. Still, if you're willing, it is an exciting and fun hobby with a lot of learning and fulfillment. Ed was a good place to start, but CAN'T be the only thing you learn from to get going, no offense to him at all! Get some books, watch a lot of videos, join a club, and listen to others experiences. read more

Ridiculously affordable if you skip the wine tasting. The facilitator goes at a slow pace that is perfect to absorb and retain a ton of technical information. About 2 hours of teaching, demonstrating and discussion, could probably be shortened to 1.5 hours. The honey tasting was delicious - Wow!
