I had the same dentist for years and I finally realized I don't have to go to him, (Mr. Attitude snobby DDS. Brown) My parents were going to Gerber where the two brothers (Dr. Steven and Dr. Richard) are usually in the office and are fantastic. Not only are they easy to be around they are informative, highly educated, and not just looking for the next dollar. They will refer you to the one who has the most experience with what ever you need. I had major mouth trauma when I was 9 months old and lost my baby teeth, my adult teeth never came in fully where the trauma occurred. I had mouth surgery and so many procedures that I was actually used to being at the dentist all the time. Dr. Richard and Dr. Steven understood what I had done and how I was just sick of it all. Instead of pushing implants like my old dentist they went over the multiple options I could do. We found the best one and went with it. I can't thank them enough, I will miss that office now that I have moved to Texas but I realized there is not enough reviews out there for dentists, I wish I had done one long before now! Okay, I just had to write another review on this office. My grandson needed a root canal. He is 12 and recently had braces installed on his top teeth by Dr Watterworth (see excellent review of of him) Well we were referred by another dentist to another dentist and they could not accommodate my schedule or the boys school schedule. I called Beth at Gerber. I should have just gone there with him instead of all the waiting and rigidity of the other dentists We got an appt within a few days!. Dr Richard talked and explained everything to him. He was done in less than an hour . I feel like this office is a great business. They treat everyone kindly and tried to accommodate a busy world. I love this office. So does my husband. The other dentist just loss 4 potential patients(4 grandsons) because their lack of flexibility and their unpleasant phone manner. read more

I just realized I have been coming to the Portsmouth office of Gerber Dental for nearly 18 years now. I feel very lucky to have a dentist like Dr Steve. I Recently received a letter from Gerber dental and Dr Richard telling me to take my service elsewhere! Wow this is how Gerber treats their patients of 20 years! I informed office mgr(Beth) I was recently laid off and insurance was ending while I was in the process of implant restoration and did not want to get stuck with a bill I could not afford. Gerber obviously wanted my insurance money more than they wanted to understand and work with my current situation. Office manager has a real attitude and was difficult for me to work with. If this is how they treated me and my family, patents for 20 years, I can not recommend them! I prefer Dr's who care about me and my life situations, even if they are not maximum profitable ones. Dr. Richard needs some patient bedside manner training as well. He is cold and impersonal when dealing with the patients. My wife indicated she had to scold him on occasions because he was very cold and quick in dealing with her as a patient. Wam bam... I also requested Dr. Steven vs. His brother because of this same impression. I started going to GERBER almost 20 years ago when I was an implant patient of their father Gerald Berube who trained and built this business his sons inherited. So I ask Dr Steve and Dr Richard, Would your Father be proud of the way you handled this case and how you treated a patient of 20 years? Probably Not! I was glad to have found a dentist and office that I could go to and receive such great service. Dr. Berube was professional and extremely pleasant to work with. I have had several appointments here in the past 5 months and they have all been outstanding. The office staff are always friendly and willing to answer questions. I've been meaning to get a new dentist for a while. I was told about Gerber Dental by a coworker and also my husband has gone to them. The service provided by the whole staff at Gerber Dental was by far better than I thought I could receive at a dentist office. Booking the appointments was pleasant with the welcoming receptionist staff. They called me a week and a half before my appointment because there was a new and earlier slot opened up just in case that day was more convenient. All the dental assistants were lovely and sweet. Dr. Richard Berube is also a genius. I was in the chair, medicated and had two teeth filled within less than 30 minutes. I actually told him "wow, that was it?". The night before I was nervous on going in and didn't look forward to the usual wait and the long process of fillings. It was none of that! I recommend everyone go to Gerber dental for their oral hygiene needs. I've made a very happy and great decision by choosing them! read more

The dentist is definitely not my favorite place to go, but I could not be happier with Gerber Dental. I was referred by a friend, and I have since referred another friend and now my husband goes there as well. We are both incredibly happy with this office. I originally went to Dr. Richard after a horrible experience at a different dentist's office, who gave me a quote for thousand of dollars of dental work that I didn't think seemed necessary, and was extremely arrogant and rude. Dr. Richard came up with a more sensible plan, and all of my treatments together cost a fraction of what the other dentist had quoted me. He is never pushy, and is always so friendly. My husband has also had Invisalign through them, and has had a great experience. I would definitely recommend this office!! read more

This is the first time I am using Yelp, but feel I need to share with others about my experience to save them the trouble. If I could give a zero star I would. Every person I spoke with on the phone from both locations was rude, lacked empathy, and made me feel like my health didn't matter. It's a shame because Doctor Stephen is such a nice guy and I had a good experience with him. I called to get a new CT scan for an ongoing issue that is causing me great pain. I went to the Hooksett location to have the scan, paid $285, and was told the next day that I wouldn't get results for at least two weeks. I asked if this could have a faster turn around time, as again, I am in a lot of pain. It was clear that once I mentioned feeling as though they were being rude with me that I was blacklisted, and treated even worse. I was laughed at, put on hold many times per call, and was put on hold for an extended time when I asked to speak with a manager, leaving me no choice but to hang up, and I was continuously given false information. The staff in Hooksett provided a similar experience. I was brought back for the CT scan and the hygienist said, "Ready for your X-Ray?" I asked her to clarify, as I was under the impression I was scheduled for a CT scan. I asked her to double check I was having the right work done and she said, "Yeah, I guess that's just what we call them here." Another hygienist came over afterwards and expressed that she wanted to see how the machine worked and could I get back in it to demonstrate. The hygienists laughed and messed with the machine while I watched my images load. I explained to the office in Hooksett that after I asked to speak to the doctor directly in hopes of expediting the process, I was told no and that he is unavailable "forever." When I asked a hygienist from Hooksett why I was told this, she told me, "That's just what we say sometimes to certain people." After the image loaded, she showed me the pictures and said, "Look, you can see something here," pointing to the scans. This made me worried for my health, but no one qualified to read the images would speak with me. Although I understand and respect that working as an office manager is a thankless job where you are constantly working with people who are demanding service, it is inappropriate and unprofessional to treat patients as though they are just a bother. I collected all of my files and already have another dentist who not only made the time to see me ASAP, but his entire staff made me feel safe and cared for. They were horrified when I told them about the service that I received at Gerber Dental. I have never had an experience such as this where I felt truly uncared for and concerned and scared with my health in their hands. Think twice before going here if your health matters to you. read more

I was absolutely terrified of going to the dentist after a bad experience with one in high school- so I didn't go for many years. I first went here when I needed a root canal two years ago, and can't say enough of how great my experience has been since making Gerber Dental my dental office. Dr. Berube and the entire staff are extremely compassionate and non-judgmental. They do everything possible to make me feel comfortable, and I'm no longer scared to go to the dentist. read more

I just switched over to this office, and I'm so glad I did. I called a few weeks ago (on a Thursday) and made a first time appointment for a cleaning. The next day I realized my tooth was cracked, and I called. They were able to get me in Monday AM to check it out. I had to wait a couple of weeks to be seen for the filling, but they gave me a prescription for pain if I needed it as well as amoxicillin. I was very nervous going into the appointment, and I was in and out while on my lunch break! It was amazing how quickly I was brought back and then on my way out the door. Both the dentist and his assistant were amazing, and I felt very comfortable there. I would recommend this office to anyone in search of a new dentist! read more

I've recently had two bad experiences with dentists beginning with Aspen Dental where I was billed for over $1600 worth of work that was either done incorrectly or was not done and I was charged. I became frustrated with them when they asked for more money without explaining the billing. I asked for all my records and went to Gerber where my brother had over $10.000 worth of impants done and so trusted them. I had also been seen by Steve and also thought that I could trust them. Steve asked if he could take all new x-rays to see what Aspen had ( and had not ) done and immediately stated that he would have to do alot of the work over. I asked him if he would write out exactly what was done and what was charged for so I could pursue it with the BBB and Consumer Protection. Also small claims court. He said to leave all the records and he would have a statement by my next visit in a week. We scheduled two at a time so I could monitor the cost. Steve knew I am on a disability and live on a fixed income. He also knew that I was using a family CareCredit card with a $6000 limit. I went to the next appoinment and was worked on for an hour. When he was finished, he told me that he had done 4 fillings instead of two. I was surprised that he fit them all in one hr. He did not have the statement about Aspen and told me he would the following visit. When I went to sign for the visit, the receptionsist told me that the cost was $1553 of which $1286.00 was for the one hr. of work he did. I was in shock and left without saying anything. I decided to consult with yet another family dentist who told be that I was again over charged. I called to cancel the next appointment and asked for my records including that statetment for Aspen. They said it would take two days. I picked them up and went home only to discover that there were only one page of x-rays and one sheet of the proposed work that we had discussed without any prices. There was no statement of which I needed so I called to complain and it took 3 different empoyees to handle the call. They kept putting me on hold and when the last woman picked up, only backed up Steve and stated that they never include prices. I said that I was unhappy with them and that I was going to pursue it with the BBB and Consumer Protection and she said " well you just do that then " and hung up. I've read the positive reviews and I'm happy for those people. I just simply did not have that kind of experience with Gerber. read more

Being from Canada, I was recently passing through the area and needed to deal with some significant dental pain I had been experiencing for the past few days. As fate would have it, I arrived at the Gerber clinic after 3:00 on a Friday (they close at 4:00) and without an appointment. I explained my predicament and crossed my fingers that they could squeeze me in. It was my good fortune that they agreed to see me and in a few short minutes, I entered to partake in the services of Tammy (dental assistant) and Dr. Stephen Berube. Long story short, I was very pleased with the services rendered --- knowledgeable, friendly, engaging, understanding, and effective. The course of treatment recommended was successful. I am very grateful for the assistance provided by the Gerber Group to help me get through my recent dental ordeal. If I were to live in this area, I would likely seek to become a regular with Dr. Berube, who was superb. Well done, Gerber! read more
