Great show, very entertaining. The mistress of ceremony was very engaging. Be sure to let them know if you're celebrating something--graduation, birthday, anniversary--they will announce it. We got the basic package, not bad. My son has food allergies, I asked the wait staff to separate out his foods since he can't have half of it. We ended up eating some of his food that he can't have. Full disclosure...I have never been to a luau before, but Germaine's was exactly what I was hoping for. Our bus ride out and back to Waikiki with Kaipo was a great time. He did a great job as a host and was a lot of fun. When we arrived the whole thing was pretty well organized, they got hundreds of people through the food line without much effort. The drink selections were great, the food was good...but..DO NOT EAT THE POI!! I REPEAT DO NOT EAT THE POI. There is actual photographic evidence (which I will not be sharing) of my first and last taste of POI. The entertainment was spot on. The singing, the hosts, the hula dancers, the fire dancer. The costumes, it was all amazing! I do suggest three things when doing this luau though, 1. bring cash, it's easier to take care of the little extras with cash than card, 2. upgrade, get the 2nd or 3rd tier package, it's totally worth it, 3. drink the windex...if you're old enough, you won't regret it. ;) read more

Our first time to Hawaii, saw online that Germaine's was highly recommended. My teenage boys and I got the Plumeria package, well worth it! Front row to an amazing show, food was great and the performers, band, fire thrower and singer were all amazing!!! The site is oceanside which made for great pictures. Not at all what I expected. This is your $100 meal; basic house salad followed by main meal; some pork, chicken and fish for meat plus a scoop of sticky rice, a roll, some macaroni salad, a square of cake and some sort of white 'jello'. It's more what you'd expect as hospital food than for event dining. You also get one mixed drink and after that you pay. 450 people attended the dinner that night; each paying about $100 a piece for a meal someone would put together for a homeless shelter on Thanksgiving Day for $4.97. The 'cultural' part of the show had a few decent moments but, overall, was also highly lacking authenticity to the degree they even played something sounded every bit like standard country music. The show seemed more a "let's find something that'll pass as entertainment for the mainlanders" type thing. Personally, I felt insulted. I went on Saturday, May 29, 2021. Overall it was okay. Best advice is pay the extra money and upgrade to Plumeria Package otherwise you'll be standing in a long line to get in and will be sitting in the cheap seats. Kinda feel bad for those stuck all the way in the back. The upgraded package included 3 drink tickets and in my opinion you have a 30 minute window to catch a buzz. Once the show starts it's hard to get the waiter to take your order. Although, they have a lighting system on your table to order more food or drinks they take it away like ninjas didn't even realize it was gone. The food was pretty good I guess, but I was super hungry too. Three stars overall because I've been to better Luaus in Hawaii. We had a blast the one year old was very hungry by the time we got to dinner which was it fault we just didn't plan waiting so long to eat. The experience dancing and food were amazing the food was delish the fish was my favorite. My sister loved the dancers and my husband loved the free drink included with your ticket. Beautiful place to watch the sunset. You get an all-you-can eat buffet and hours of entertainment for the price. The alcoholic drinks at the cash bar are reasonably priced and there's a gift shop with inexpensive Hawaiian souvenirs. You are greeted with a sea shell leis upon arrival. Early in the evening you can watch them take the pig off the pit, where it roasted all day. The food is plentiful and authentic. My only complaint is there weren't really any vegetarian options. But the show is so fun and the location so beautiful that didn't seem to matter. read more

I had heard good things about Germaine's, but after going there Thursday, I was really disappointed. I have been to the Hilton Hawaiian village luau and the paradise cove luau and both of those where much better. There was no narrative so you didn't understand what the dances were supposed to be conveying. Just a bunch of random dances that left you wondering why I wasted the money. If you want a recommendation. Paradise cove first, Hilton Hawaiian village second. Those are the only 3 I have been to. read more

Went on a family trip and booked our tickets with Germaine's. It was a toss up with the luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center but I crossed it out since it was a religiously owned establishment. The meet up point was only 10 minutes from where we stayed via taxi, Sheraton Waikiki, which was convenient for us. We were picked up by a coach bus and was quite surprised to see we were the only Asians on board. The majority of the guests were older white American/European tourists. Any who, I didn't find our tour host humorous at all but we had to bare with her which seemed like hours until we reached our destination. We were amidst rain/thunder storm. Yahoo! Luau was typical lunch plate style with all your regular Hawaiian style food. Luckily for me, my parents nor their friends drink so they gave me all their drink tickets. Met a cute girl working the bar and must have gone through 7 drinks. By the end of the night I ended back in my hotel room knocked out with my aloha shirt still on. What I recalled the next day was the long bus ride, my sisters dancing on stage, drinking nonstop, and getting lei'd by our tour host. read more

The drive was not bad on a Sunday due to no traffic. It took about 25 minutes to get there but it went quickly because we had a great escort, Cousin Maika was so funny and make sure we had a relaxing and easy drive to and from the luau. The bus was clean and it had A/C which was amazing due to it being humid throughout our whole visit. The location of the luau was pretty and right on the water, it was a little small but it had everything you need: bar, stage, bathroom, gift shop, and the pit where they cook the pig underground. The food was so good and the drinks were just as good. You get one free drink ticket and then each drink after that was $5 for me but you get more expensive drinks if you wanted to try the specialty drinks. The show was great and the dancers did a great job, especially the fire dancer! I would recommend this luau to anyone visiting the island. read more

How did this place get bad reviews? I was skeptical. I had already purchased tickets and then read reviews. Do the math. 300-700 people per night. A handful of people complained about the food and the show. That's actually really good for a large crowd. It's impossible to please everyone. They deserve much better reviews. We had a family of 4, two children and two adults. We upgraded to front row seating when we got there. The food was great! There are so many options there will be plenty for anyone to enjoy. The show was great! Excellent dancers. I would go back and it was worth the extra money for the front tables. Thank you Germaine's for the family memories we made. read more

I called to add a child to our group we booked the expensive luau tickets refused said they were sold out and could not make any adjustments the girl was very rude on the phone. 2 hours later they cancelled on us not cool. I asked about next day and she said in a very bored voice if you wanted to make reservations for Sunday night I should have made them yesterday. Still very rude. I will never book here again. After living on Oahu for on 20 years we've attended many Luau's throughout the Islands when family and friends visit. Yesterday was our first (and last) visit to Germaine's Luau with visiting family. Upon arrival, the venue looked nice after driving through the industrial section of Leeward Oahu. The greeting was cumbersome when our names couldn't be located. It was found stuck to another reservation. Our group of four had the Plumeria package ($564.00) and we took the customary arrival photo. The 3-drink coupon offer is misleading as a premium cocktail is 2 coupons. A second visit to the bar resulted in the purchase of warm can of Heineken for $13.00. The bar staff was pleasant but seemed disinterested and they pushed the purchase of an unwanted $18.00 glass on one of my elderly guests. (Shame on you folks to taking advantage of someone for $18.00 - really??) The young lady offering tea leaf lei didn't look up, smile or really acknowledge our group - no Aloha. The food was good and the show was enjoyable. Our free gift from the Plumeria Package was a shot glass and when we departed we were told the arrival photo was not provided free in the Plumeria Package and we'd need to purchase them. By this point I was done and left without the memorable photo we expected. This was the worst Luau experience in over 20+ years in Hawai'i. Final points, there are several other Luau options non Oahu. This is a total tourist event not Kama'aina (local) friendly so locals should consider other options. They didn't deliver on our expectations. read more

Unbelievably disappointing! $200+ and 4+ hours of my life I will sadly never get back. Insanely ridiculous mask policy totally in contradiction to Hawaii's already absurd mask policy. Terrible salty food. Watery but sickeningly sweet drinks. Horrible customer service. Unimpressive music and lackluster show. I demanded a refund while I was there, but they refused so I will do everything in my power to get a refund and/or dispute their unjustifiably exorbitant charges. The luau at Hilton Hawaiian Village on Waikiki is 100 times better AND in a decent part of town - Germaine's is an hour from Waikiki and in the worst part of the island directly adjacent to a landfill and/or garbage company, so yes the area stinks horribly! From beggining to end! the guy who escorted us to the table, Mika, was welcoming and explained to us perfectly how the luau works. This was a good experience for my wife and family, but for me, I'd like to have the time and money I spent at Germain's Luau back. The trip was long, the food was bad, and the entertainment was mediocre. Much like so many other tourist attractions, they charged you a fortune, then tried to take all the money you had left. Also, apparently the Hawaiian people and their #1 visitors both still believe in class separation and distinction. It's not really worth your money or time to even attend this tourist trap in my opinion. But if you do, DO NOT pay extra for the better table and additional things the higher package offers; nobody needs it and you probably don't want to be seated with those people anyway. The best view for us was actually further away from the stage than our table. And the 3 hours we spent seated at wood picnic tables was the most uncomfortable I've been in some time. The food was a mishmash of different traditional Hawaiian foods mixed with other stuff. They provided rolls but didn't offer real butter; it was whipped spread topping or something. The only reason we chose this luau specifically was the underground cooking of a pig. I don't know if we ate the pig they unearthed while we were there, or a pig from the previous night. It would have taken a long time to turn an entire pig into pulled pork (I've done this), but if you did it every night you might become wildly efficient at it. Regardless of which pig you eat or when, the pork is pretty bland. The beef and chicken were also bland. Perhaps they're trying to offer a more traditional experience and this is what the food tasted like at the traditional luaus from the past. But if that's the case, then they need to get rid of the Pepsi, root beer, whipped spread, Bud Lite, etc. The pork would have been awesome had they offered barbecue sauce. And, had I known, I would have brought my own. I give this long, uncomfortable, tasteless dining tourist attraction 3 stars because my wife and 2 daughters seemed to like it. And that's worthy of mention. They took pictures with the performers at the end, ate the food and generally found the entire experience favorable. My family loves salads, and the salad options they had were pretty good. In the end, I wish I hadn't gone. I don't feel in any way enriched by the experience. But I'm glad my family went and enjoyed themselves. read more

12/06/16 First off Cousin Gerald was FABULOUS!!!! He kept us well informed on our trip from Ilikai Hotel to the Luau location. We were blessed with good weather, but it did rain on the way out so traffic was crappy and took us more than an hour to get there, but Cousin Gerald kept us entertained the entire way. Since we were there during Pearl Harbor remembrance week, there were a lot of high school kids from all over the US that were there with their high school bands. There were a few "drive outs" but for the most part our bus was the only one that was not part of the marching bands. We watched the ceremony of them taking the pig out of the ground. One of the other people at our table who was a local and had done this numerous times, told us that it was for show, since there was no way the could de-bone, skin and shred the pig for dinner, that what they serve is pig from the day before. Had we known in advance, we would have purchased the "Plumeria" package where they serve you before anyone else is allowed to go get their food. They then dismiss the tables one by one to go get their food. Our table was one of the last to get to go and the other tables that were dismissed at the same time were some of the school bands who ran pushing their way into line. Not very organized. Food was alright, have had better. The show was exciting and they are quite wonderful at what they do. We then boarded the bus for the ride back. Since we were in traffic on the way out we got a late start so it was nearly 11 when we got back to our hotel. It was a good experience and we are glad we did it, but would like to see them get a little more organized for the all, not just the ones who paid a extra. read more
