We'd rate the experience a solid 4 out of 5. The food was decent, though we were especially excited for the pork and it didn't quite meet our expectations. The staff were friendly, and the drinks were fine, but the non‑alcoholic options were pretty limited (just a few sodas, punch, and coffee). It rained during our visit, but the show continued, which we appreciated. The "tattoo" station used sharpies, so we skipped that--henna would've been a nicer touch. The handmade flower hair pieces were lovely. The complimentary gift is a glass, while the Tiki cups cost $18. You can purchase additional alcoholic drinks after using your two included ones, but they're on the pricey side. My virgin piña colada was $18 for a small cup. The views, however, were beautiful, and the sunset was stunning. They also take photos at the beginning, which are available for $30 for two images.

I knew I wanted to go to a luau in Hawaii and Germaine's was such a fun one to go to! We did not take the bus to the venue so I cannot speak to that experience but I can say that when we arrived parking was really easy. We were welcomed warmly by every staff member we encountered. We also loved receiving our necklaces and being able to take a group photo with one of the dancers. When you enter the venue you completely forget you're in an industrial area. The venue is right on the beach, complete with sea breeze and gently-swaying palm trees. We had a table in the second row and had a perfect view of the stage. The bar, soft drink/coffee area and restrooms were all easy to identify and access. The drinks were fair - two drink tickets were included in the price of our tickets. I had 4 cocktails (two Blue Hawaii's, Mai Tai and a vodka soda) and didn't really feel much but they were quite yummy. The food was actually a lot better than some of these reviews give it credit for! I particularly enjoyed the kalua pig, island fish and the beef. It was especially cool to be able to watch the pig being pulled from the underground oven! The show itself was absolutely spectacular. I loved the review of dances from all different Pacific islands and our MC was ravishing - she had a fun, beautiful personality and gorgeous voice. The band was great, the costumes were mesmerizing and the performances were all top-notch. Huge shout out to the Chief and his fiery performance! Thank you Germaine's for a wonderful night! I'll be sure to return the next time I'm in Hawaii.

I debated with family/myself if I should post this review but reading all the 1-2 star review with my same complaints -- I think this should be shared as Germaine's promised me that they will make changes with operations but apparently the problems keep repeating/happening FOR YEARS. Germaine's Lua was recommended by family, friends and clients. This was my first luau and celebrated my birthday here. First, they told us TO SIT AT ANY TABLE WITHOUT any reservation cards. There are tables that says reserved, some none. We sat at a green mantel table and just about before the show started -- we were told to present our "folders" rudely as this is a reserved table WITHOUT any reserved placards. We then moved to a table without any mantel. This guy didnt say a word, eventually just as the female host started talking -- this guy told us we can't sit at a table without a mantel. He then proceeded to SQUEEZE IN EACH MEMBER OF MY FAMILY ON DIFFERENT TABLES. This is a family affair and he wanted us to squeeze in to DIFFERENT tables. How smart is that? We were one of numerous families that complained. WHY HAVE SO MANY TABLES IF PEOPLE CAN'T USE IT. They eventually Opened another table. Didn't get an apology from this guy. As much as the show was good -- it didn't feel welcoming from the start. I didn't feel welcome. I felt forced to do things I didn't want. This totally ruined my birthday, ruined my vacation. So unhappy. I complained via email and I got really offended when they said "Maybe they were thinking you were trying to pull a fast one." Whoever called me was very confrontational but eventually mellowed down and apologized. She said she will make sure operational changes happen. They gave us the option of DOING THE LUAU again for free or get a 20% off. I really don't think I want to do this luau again. Why? My complaints were the same complaints from years ago. It will fall on deaf ears.

If you're looking for an exceptional Hawaiian luau place -- look no further! Germaine's got it all. The staff is extremely patient and friendly. Each person we interacted with had a positive demeanor and looked happy to be helping out. This really added to our experience! The food is to die for. Normally, I am not a fan of buffet style meals, but Germaine's was an exception. So many flavorful, authentic Hawaiian food choices to pick from! I filled my plate and ended up cleaning it. The luau performances were incredible. I am very happy with my decision to visit Germaine's. Definitely worth the price!

Advanced reservations are recommended. We booked direct from their website and saved 10% off. Not much social distancing at your very own table, but since it's outdoors, it wasn't too bad. Masks required when roaming around. The MC eventually asked everyone to stop taking pictures by the water because too many people were crowding around the area, but it was a beautiful location inside the venue. Outside driving in looks more like an industrial area. Parking was easy and that the attendant has you scan a code for your party for contact tracing. The drive was about 30-45 minutes from Honolulu/Waikiki area, depending on traffic. They also offer pick-up from hotels near Waikiki, I think it was $25-35/pp. You line up to get your tickets for the night (which includes the free drink tickets), then there's a line for photos with one of the performers, and then there's a line to get shown your seats & table and grab some appetizers & water. A bit difficult to socially distance when waiting for drinks at the bar and all the lines...It was a full house when we went (08/22), the MC mentioned 600 ppl total... Drinks at the bar averaged $5, but each adult gets at least 1 free alcoholic drink. Sodas are complimentary. The food wasn't served until around 7pm and they call the side tables (with the standard package) to get up and get the food one at a time. (I'm guessing prior to COVID, it was buffet style.) Then after everyone's been served, they allow people to grab seconds. Food was okay, what I expected. The appetizer was a salad and fruits and Lomi (Salmon & Tomato Salad), and Poi. I didn't like the poi here. Kalua Pig was a bit dry and salty, the BBQ Chicken was good, Mac Salad was fine. There was also a dinner roll and a couple of small desserts (coconut and I can't remember what else). The performance was just okay. I haven't been to a luau since I was younger so I'm not sure if my memory serves me incorrectly, but I just felt like the one I went to before was longer. The chief fire dancer is still my favorite, though! Given everything going on with COVID and all the new protocols, I think Germaine's is good. If you want to get the more expensive package, you can avoid the some of the lines because the servers will come right to your table for the food and drinks.

The location of the luau is the best, we loved how it was on the beach and we could take pictures before there and dog our toes in the sand during the luau. We bought the Plumeria package, which came with closer seating, a waiter, 3 drink tickets, lei necklace, and souvenir items photos. If you have the money to splurge I would: this all made our time very enjoyable. We loved the souvenir photos to document our trip with. The food was okay; nothing wonderful but I didn't expect that going into it. It's not a buffet due to Covid but our waitress's brought it out to us on a tray. And at the end you could ask for seconds. I like that we got 3 drink tickets with our package. However I wish there told us if it was dark or light rum in each drink; if you only like light. Stick with the blue Hawaiian. Drinks are small but decently poured w alcohol. The show was also okay, I've seen better luaus before but again it was entertaining. The bathrooms however were DISGUSTING, looks like they've never been cleaned. Huge toilet bowl rings. Overall I would suggest this luau if you have the money to splurge for the better package.

Don't settle for less this is the by far the best Luau on the island of Honolulu ... the food is on point and very delicious the drinks ehhhh not that great to bland and not enough liquor . The show was really good and the performers do the job right .. you gotta come Here if you want a good show trust me you won't be disappointed ..

I saw a lot of bad reviews, but my husband said that's one of best best Luau he has ever been when he was a kid. It's about 180 dollars per person that including the transportation (the luau is on the more remote side at the west of the island, about 1 hour drive during traffic and 40 mins back to Waikiki), an all you can eat style buffet with drinks including 2 alcohol per person and of course the entertainment! The bus came to pick us up on time and our auntie Lisa was cracking up jokes on the way there; she made the ride more fun! Once you got there, they will check you in and take a group picture of your family and then directing us to the dining area. The dining area for our ticket is free seating! Dinner was actually much better than I expected! I didn't have high expectations because knowing it's just a food at luau but it's not bad at all and you can always go back for second or third till you are tired! The entertainment was a typical performance including singing, dancing and the fire show! What I like also is the interactions with the audiences. People said it's cheesy! Lol all luau is cheesy and we are tourist and we are ok to be cheesy and having a good time!

This was our first luau and we really enjoyed it. Parking was easy, with plenty of space to roam, beautiful views, lots of food variety, and the teens loved every bite! The show was exciting and the entertainers were wonderful & friendly. The bought pictures were beautiful and reasonably priced. Definitely recommend this luau!!

My wife and I came to Hawaii for our 11th anniversary and we made no plans for a luau, because we had been told by some other people that we knew that they weren't worth it. But after taking some time to think about it, we decided to do it. We looked up some different luaus and decided on Germains...it was the best decision we could've made! We had so much fun and the staff was absolutely wonderful. The show was great and it was on waterfront property. I highly recommend that you upgrade your package to the plumeria. It is totally worth the money. The food is all you can eat, the gift shop has very reasonable prices, and the whole atmosphere was wonderful. We don't regret it for a second, and we would love to do it again. read more
There's many negative reviews on this luau however I cannot agree. We had a really nice experience! We had booked thru Costco, they included a credit for activities and germaines luau was on there so we booked it just as a little something extra to do while we were there. My bf and I are huge fans of Hawaii bbq so we were looking forward to trying authentic Hawaiian food and we were NOT disappointed. We've been home now almost a week and have not stopped thinking about how delicious the food was! If u are closed minded and expecting american food ya you are going to be dissatisfied but if you are optimistic and willing to try new things then you will leave happy. For instance, people were trying the poi with their salad or fruit then saying they don't like it, poi is normally eaten with meats I can see why they thought it was bad. This isn't the luaus fault they provided a variety of things to eat. They even included the most delicious little slice of cake and I was able to go to the bar and get a good cup of coffee to go with it I was satisfied. The show was nice but a little slow until they brought out the fire performers, that part was exciting. A lot of reviews talk about how they sit u with other families but we actually enjoyed meeting and talking with other families across the country. We liked the experience and I think that's because we didn't set our expectations too high we just enjoyed the moment. I recommend this luau again I haven't stopped thinking about how good the food was since we left! read more

Horrible event, and not just due to COVID. I have been to many other Luaus on previous visits to HI , and this was by far the worst. To be fair, the current COVID restrictions have made the otherwise friendly staff overly concerned about getting shut down. Guests are told to remain at their hard wooden table benches for TWO HOURS before the show starts. Take a picture at the war canoe or ocean vista? Nope. Socialize (spread aloha) between tables? Can't! Switch seats for a better view? No. Take another family's picture? Don't get caught by the "aloha repression corps." You can do three things: 1. Go to the bathroom, 2. Get your food when told and 3. (Of course) visit the paltry gift store or the bar. While Germaine's cannot be blamed entirely for this limited experience, there are a few non-COVID things you should know. If you don't upgrade to a Plumeria table, you will probably have a terrible view of the stage. Only the big spenders get center stage. We could not even see the band and saw only "stage left: of the show. Certainly other venues have bad seating, but this is the worst. If you get one of the many crummy seats, you won't see much. The food is luau-grade, meaning somewhere between OK and, well, OK. You can get seconds and maybe thirds if you are that mad at your stomach. Drinks are a joke - small, watered down and, well awful. (The $20 Mai Tai at the Royal Hawaiian is pricey, but at least it has some booze in it!) Lots of waiting for.... I don't what. But from entry to seeing the first Tahitian dancer was TWO HOURS of waiting on a hard bench not talking to others or taking pictures or... you get the picture. The point of a luau is not the food, really, its the event. Meet new people, enjoy the setting, have fun, see a show and enjoy ALOHA. Germaine's failed to deliver any of the above, and not all due to COVID. My advice? Wait until current COVID restrictions are lifted and then go to Paradise Cove. read more

Complete waste of time! Please do yourself a favor by finding other activities in Hawaii or go to another Luau! Me and my wife should have done more research before attending this luau. We were thrown off by the location which is in some remote area past multiple junkyards. We made it there on time but had to sit in our car for 30 more minutes before checking in. So we finally got our salad and luckily people were still waiting to be seated so we redeemed our free drinks (which weren't good btw). We bought the original package so we had to sit all the way in the back. By 8:00 we still did not get our food yet and our butts were hurting from sitting on those communal picnic benches. So even when we arrived on time (5:30pm) we started eating past 8:30 because we bought the "original package" so we were one of the very last tables to be dismissed for the buffet. The food wasn't even good either; the "island fish" was disgusting and soggy. While waiting for food, the host was just wasting time talking nonsense and making random people do some dance-off instead of starting the actual show. The actual show didn't start until after 8:30. By that time we were so bored, hangry, and our butts were in pain, we left shortly after. Credit to the dancers as they were great, but the overall experience and wait time ruined it. Steer clear of this place. read more

Our first luau and it was ok, nothing really spectacular though. The bus ride there was good. Maika our guide was very nice and entertaining. They have a gift store but there was no time to go to it as as soon as your bus arrives they get everything going. The food was plentiful and good, though the meat was barely warm. Unfortunately it was extremely windy while we were there so eating then watching the show was a bit challenging. Was not a fan of the paper plates for the cost we paid. I think they could create a better sitting arrangement so that everyone could see the show. We paid for the hibiscus (upgrade) but I had a hard time seeing around the other people at our table. You need stadium single rows table seating. The dancing was good but quite challenging to see around other people and it was not even half sold. Would not go back or recommend. read more

When my family and I went to Hawaii last week, we ended up going to Germaine's Luau twice in the week! By accident, I booked a separate luau with just my mom sister and myself for Mother's Day however the following Saturday--my sister's friend had already booked one for us there too. It was all good because we enjoyed both times!! The first time: on Mother's Day (Sunday) we got picked up from Waikiki Gateway Hotel by the bus. We got Cousin Gerald as our host and he is very very funny! Very good at his job and he's in charge of the operations of the whole luau. Awesome! He gave us the recommendation that when you use your Drink Ticket, purchase the tiki mug from the souvenir store first (it's only $10) and present the mug to the bar--they will fill it up for you with your alcoholic beverage. And you get more of your money's worth. The drink they would originally give you would be a tiny cup. The second time: we drove with friends. The girls were not as nice when they lei'd us. It was kind of so quick, but I get it cause there is a lot of people trying to get in and take their pictures etc. I enjoyed it even though it was the same cast except for a few! We joined the girls on stage and the guys joined the stage as well. Both were really funny! PLUS our legendary friend, Nino won the competition when the three guys were chosen to dance! Favorite part was the Tahitian dance from the guys...of course. Family oriented and cool to just experience as a visitor in Hawaii. Food unlimited but they get rid of it so quickly so you have to finish your first plate quickly. Kalua pork = the best! If you're Filipino, chicken long rice just tastes like Sotanghon. Bomb! read more

A friend of ours recommended Germaine's luau and I am sorry to say I would not give the same recommendation. My husband and I have been to a few luaus and this was the most disappointing. When you drive into the lot, the attendants tell you to stay in your car and someone will come get you. After waiting in our car for 15 mins and watching everyone else get out and get in the LOOOOOOONG line to get your tickets, we just got out too. So you wait in a line for about 30 mins just to get your tickets, then wait in another line to take your obligatory picture with a hula dancer and then wait in another line to be seated. We knew there is a lot of food at luaus and they are all you can eat (as it says on their site and our tickets as well). So we didn't eat past breakfast that day. Everyone was fussy that day but we knew we'd get our money's worth at the luau. Wrong. We had the 'lowly' classic package which means we had to wait 30 minutes to get our food and then stood in the line for the food for another 15 mins. The other people were getting dessert and we had not even had our dinner. They said they would announce when everyone had eaten and then they would announce that everyone could go back for seconds. By the time we were called to go get our food and ate it, everything was gone and the only "seconds" to be had were the desserts (which none of us touched because it was pretty stale and nasty). So... 'all you can eat', as stated on our tickets, is very untrue. The food itself was disappointing as well. The scoop of pork, the battered fish filet and the roll were ok, but definitely not worth waiting for. I am so upset I didn't go with another luau. The women's bathrooms were manned by an attendant that allowed only a certain amount of people inside. The men's bathroom had no attendant. There's a trough for the men to go to the bathroom in, so I'm not sure why standing even closer and not even having the barrier that the women's bathroom has means there doesn't need to be restrictions on how many people can be in there. I couldn't see about half of the show, as I was seated behind a big palm tree. My recommendation is to read the reviews for other luaus and go with one that has more stars and better logistics of how they run their business. read more

The Food: Food here is very basic... really not worth the $85 price take. They had Kalua pork (which was actually fresh) and pretty decent... but the other entrees consisted or teriyaki chicken (yoshinoya quality), macaroni, angel hair noodles with chicken, white rice, generic salad, fried fish, diced fruit and teriyaki beef... All of this was generic nothing special... Also, you get "unlimited" soda and water which is served in tiny cups... and you get one free drink ticket per ticket... but the free drink only applies to vertain drink.. if you want a "free" beer itll cost you a ticket and 6 dollars. Pre-drink heavily if you want to have fun. The location: it's located north of Honolulu past the airport and pretty far. If you are staying near Waikiki, itll take you at least 30 minutes to get there... hopefully there's no traffic. Parking was OK but it looks like it can get tight. Leave early to start drinking. The Service: When going in, you must check your name at the door so that you can get a ticket... no wrist band or anything. They give you a free shell lei when you get your picture taken... but not even an actual flower of leaf lei... the souvenir shop person was pretty annoying... the soda lady was funny and great, the alcoholic beverage people were also great... I had no idea that my ticket stub had an actual ticket and accidentally threw it in the raffle bin... The Luau itself was Ok... nothing I haven't seen just being alive and from the US... Ive seen dancers in highschool, college and multicultural events. This was all the same to me, except for the fire dancers, which is pretty cool but that's the show stopper... they had a bunch of tourists dancing too for entertainment... kinda lame. I came to see a show... not tourists make asses of themselves... I wouldn't recommend it for the price point... if anything I would look for a show that just pays for the show... not the food. read more

My brother got food poisoning. Show was okay- the part with the fire was our favorite part. At the end, they let you buy the group photos for $20 and tell you can download a digital version online but the digital photo is very low res. My iPhone takes better photos. Not sure what the hype is but I would skip this luau. read more

Cancelled on us 2 hours before the luau. Plans were ruined and we were not able to rebook a diff luau as we needed to fly out in 2 days. Worst experience in Hawaii, made it seem like they were doing us a favor by allowing us to get a refund. They also claimed cancelling was because covid protocol, but really they just didn't get enough customers to make the luau worth it so they rebooked everyone to the next confirmed event read more

THE PEOPLE ARE AWESOME! all the cousins are very invested in making your evening a wonderful time! Come with the right expectations - namely, the typical dance show and the typical food. If you have a Hawaiian BBQ restaurant near your home, it's the same sort of food. I also wish the staff on the bus would be better about enforcing the mask policy! They were so strict outdoors at the luau, but half the bus was maskless (and drunk, and loud) both ways. Please be consistent! read more

Overpriced tourist trap. Don't bother if you're looking for an authentic cultural experience or a fun and relaxing evening. This event took up 6 hours of our evening, and there were only 45 minutes of actual performance. We were supposed to be picked up at 4:20. The bus arrived 25 minutes late. The "cousin" who narrated on the bus was painfully awkward, and his microphone repeatedly stopped working to the point where he gave up and stopped talking. The Luau is located in an industrial area quite far from anything. But the site itself is a nice spot on the beach to watch the waves crashing in. We got there around 6. There were 500 guests and only 2 buffet lines. Feeding everyone was chaotic and a waste of time. While people ate, there was no music or entertainment on the stage. The food was fine- basic but good. The drinks from the bar were also reasonably priced and pretty good. There was an unpleasant smell in the venue, probably drifting in from the surrounding industrial area. The show itself was corny, touristy, and full of filler material (having audience members dance on stage, yelling aloha repeatedly, having people from different states cheer when the MC said the state name). The actual performances began at 8:05, 4 hours after we began waiting for the bus to pick us up. The dancers were pretty good, especially the fire dancer. In between acts the MC would get back on stage for more filler material and have the crowd start chanting "aloha" again. On the bus ride back, I overheard our bus driver discussing his criminal history with the "cousin" and how the driver had previously had his license revoked for a year for impaired driving. Not exactly what I wanted to hear from the person driving my bus. Yes, people deserve second chances but I found talking loudly about that in earshot of guests to be incredibly unprofessional. In short, the cafeteria style meal was worth maybe 15 dollars. The 45 minutes of actual entertainment was with maybe 20. Most of the performance was a waste of time (having the audience chant aloha and bringing audience members to dance on stage). The transportation experience to and from the venue left much to be desired. read more

I was honestly very disappointed in this luau I thought it would have been a better performance, don't get me wrong they wernt bad but they wernt good or very entertaining either. - they showed when they pulled out the pig from underground so that was cool - but I do have to say the food was not good at all what so ever -everything was very bland and most stuff were cold -the area really stuck like really bad Oder it wasn't a good experience. I have been to other luaus and I'll have to say if you want to experience a great luau with very good and tasty food you must book Polynesian cultural center!! By far the best food and everything! read more

Super friendly staff full of the ALOHA spirit !! The food was great to us cuz we love a buffet! I mean it's not super fancy but I'm glad it was more relaxed we had 2 under 2 in our group of 12 ! They were accommodating to our party. I loved the entertainers, full of energy and spirit. My only disappointing point were that of the shuttle meet location for my older members it was hard to take them to drop off n then drive ourselves cuz it's far from Waikiki AND You have to leave around 5 O'CLOCK TRAFFIC. Oh it's like picnic benches on the beach so heels n anything not sand friendly is not recommend. Besides that my whole family loved it ALL read more

Entertaining and fun for the family. They definitely put forth the effort to ensure their staff were trained thoroughly in singing, dancing, showmanship, and guest services. Everyone was 100% friendly, professional, and approachable. We chose Germaine's Luau based on some TikTok reviews my daughter found, and we were not disappointed. The Hostess was up there with celebrities with her singing and crowd interaction. 10/10 would go again for the show. Food was buffet style and all you can eat. They encouraged the guests to go back for seconds once everyone had a chance to eat. read more

Package Purchased: Plumeria Package Seating 1/5 : I would say it was pretty crowded. My group of 8 purchased the most expensive package yet we were seated right next to the general package in the back which was unfortunate. I purposely booked the premium tickets for the seating in order to give my out of state family a spectacular first experience at a Luau but that didn't happen. Very disappointed with their seating arrangements. Location 5/5: beautiful scenery next to the ocean. Had the opportunity to take tons of beautiful pictures next to the beach which was memorable. Show 5/5: I personally think the best thing at this Luau was their fire show. I was pretty upset with the seating, food, and service but the show lightened my spirits even though we were seated so far from the stage. Food 3/5: My favorite was their Mac Salad! We were given a light to turn on in order to alert the servers when we wanted second servings. I HIGHLY recommend ordering a plate of the dish you enjoy. The servers take a long long time to see the light and by the time the server gets your second serving the show already started and they take the light away from you. Thus, you can't order anymore food even if you're still hungry and it's "all you can eat". Service 1/5: I definitely would give this a 0/5 but hey... 1 for effort. They were extremely slow and unapologetic about bringing wrong items or not seeing the light. At one point we would have to lift the light up to even get someone to notice our light on and even then the servers would just walk past us. Horrible experience for this "deluxe package". You are also given free pictures at the end of the show. As a plumeria package holder the employees will find your table and give you your family photos. Took 15 minutes after the show to even find our photos and I had to get up to find the employee... I much rather have just picked it up myself at the table... on top of that they printed TWO extra copies of our family photos so I politely asked if I could just take the extra copies because it is our family picture. They declined and in my head it was rude to just throw a perfectly good set of pictures away when you could just give it to the family. That made no sense to me... Overall 2/5: Would never pay for this Luau again. If you want a good Luau WITH activities and you can see the ceremony of them bringing the pig out I recommend going to Paradise Cove. read more

Visiting Hawaii for the fort time and a tradition Luau was a must. This place was recommended to us by Aloha Tours and it did not disappoint. The trip there was tough, it took us a while to arrive but it's understandable as we knew the traffic was going to be bad, the location is in the middle of nowhere and seemed iffy at first but upon arrival the views and the place were beautiful. And not to mention it's a unlimited Food Buffet which sold us from the start lol the food was great with a traditional cooked pig being taken from underneath the ground. Our tour guide Cousin Kiepo was great very friendly and informative from the start. I definitely recommend checking this place out if your looking for a fun time with fun people and looking to see a traditional Hawaiian Luau read more

Overall had an amazing experience going to this luau. Food was very good and had A LOT of it. Dancers and the MC's were entertaining. Scene was nice with Lots of palm trees and the beach right next to us. It's worth to get the expensive or second most expensive package. Especially if you're planning to drink. It comes with photos which are about 20 if bought separately. Tip: make sure to bring bug spray. Got bit by mosquitoes a couple times throughout the night. read more

The location is really what makes this place awesome! Who wouldn't want to attend a beach/oceanfront luau. The food (pulled pork, some sweet/sour chicken, cold salads, etc) was OK, but we weren't here to be wowed by that anyway. The drinks were small, but only $5 as were the cans of beers...Best drink prices on the island from what I recall. The entertainment was excellent although they didn't need to allow all females who wanted to learn to dance on stage. Oy-that took forever. They should've picked 6 and that's it. We took their shuttle from our hotel on Waikiki Beach and Juan (I believe that was his name), was entertaining and also part of the luau troupe. I'd recommend this luau as long as your not expecting delicious food. read more

BRING BUG SPRAY! After the sun sets the bugs come out and get you. The food was great, free soda pop, get an alcohol ticket per ticket in group and the entertainment was really good. The dancing was really fun and exciting to watch. The music and singing was all performed live and they sounded amazing. Food was served buffet style and highly recommend the Kuala. Smokey and tender flavor. Do not recommend the poi though. This Luau is well put together and fun for anyone of any age. read more

Late post...here on Halloween 2021. Not good overall. Food is cafeteria style & quality. Not even enough time for seconds before they closed down the food area. Drinks are watered down & it's stereotypical entertainment. Nothing authentic. 2/5 bc it's still Hawaii. Find anywhere but here. Lucky we met a local Polynesian that invited us for an authentic lu'au w his family next time we're on the island. read more

Good food, great luau. Would highly recommend the VIP tables as opposed to the regular tables. It was a fun outdoor luau on the beaches of Hawaii! read more

It's a nice luau but not the best on island. The show was great, food was okay, drinks were (small but) strong. BUT if you don't pay extra for more expensive tickets you will eat last and stand in VERY long lines for drinks. The most annoying part was those who paid extra had access to three bartenders, when those who didn't stood in one insane line for one specific bartender. Paradise Cove is in a way nicer area, better ambiance, short drink lines, and I remember the show being longer. Still a fun experience though read more
Unfortunately I was only able to get one photo because I was trying to take in as much as I could. First, parking was easily accessible and was included with their purchase prior to the event. When you walk in, they give you a seashell lei and take your photo as well as give you your ticket. They lead to you your table where you can sit and wait for everyone to gather for the event. We were given a complementary three free drinks ticket per person, which was nice! We were also right by the shore of the beach and it was just beautiful. The view, the air, the sand in your toes. (I recommend not wearing heels here because it's literally on the beach). The buffet was amazing!! We saw them pull the kalua pig out of the ground and everything was just great. Highly recommend for anyone coming to Hawaii! read more

If you get the original package be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen. They group you with different sizes of necklaces and if you get the original package you'll get the smallest necklace they have and you will only get a chance to get food 5 mins before the show starts. They claim all you can eat buffet but that is clearly not the case when people with the more expensive bigger necklaces have a private line to the drinks bar and can easily get 5 plates of food before you even get your one. And the drinks are cheap but the glasses are intendent at the bottom to give you even less of a drink. You are honestly just paying for a show and a single plate of food. Older returning guest said how the luau has declined in quality and recommended other locations such as the Polynesian culture center read more

The people were very nice. The ambiance looked like an authentic Luau. The ground was all sand so I ended up taking off my shoes and walking barefoot. The entertainment was awesome. Very enjoyable. The Hawaiian food was great. Very tasty, and I've had many Hawaiian food living here all my life. Sorry but there are negatives. This particular night they delayed and started quite late. I'm not sure why, but since we arrived early to get great seating, it turned out to be a long night for us. It also rained, which was a bummer because there really is no shelter. They handed out ponchos but the buffet is not covered so the food was wet. I ate my poi with a layer of rain water on top. That part was not very enjoyable. Plus they ran out of forks and plates. How do you run out when you know how many people made reservations for the show. It was very disappointing and uncomfortable since we were soaked before the show began. I'm just glad the rain stopped before the show began. I don't understand why they don't have a tent since Hawaii weather is very unpredictable. Anyways, I think they may have gotten a 3 stars but I'm taking into account that the entertainment was great, the food was tasty (even with rain water in it), and the staff was really friendly. So I gave it a 4 stars. I'd go again and pray for a dry night. I think the price we paid was kind of high in my opinion. read more

Never again!!!!! A complete waste of $125 if you ask me . The travel bus was nice thought because they didn't own it . I honestly feel that it's very dangerous to put 3 different meats stacked on too of each other . Chicken , fish & pork ppl have food allergies. I also know that we are currently in covid so not being able to serve your self is fine . But not being able to have options for $125 is not ok . Sitting on park beach way off in the corner where you can't see the show is unacceptable . Fully booking reservations although it's covid and having random groups sitting together on weak park benches with a cheap flower table cover is not ok. Having to for anything to drink at a buffet is stupid . Having to watch the show from the bar stairs was tacky. But last but not least having to pay an additional $25-50 to take pictures at the front and get a seashell necklace is ridiculous. Save yourself some money and go else where . I will a posted pics of the food and seating with an over all experience review on my yt channel : sachamonay . Also I included some must try spots while in Honolulu. Oh yea the birthday girl hated the entire experience never even cracked a smile because they were unwilling to accommodate or send arrange a way back to our hotel rooms. I'm always down for an experience even if it's not my way but for $125 and false advertisement is not for me !!!!!! read more

What a fun night! Food was definitely better than expected and the show was amazing! Still seems like they are trying to get reorganized since COVID but they made the best of it! read more
Great reviews and now we know why, stunning dancers and great food, Kahlua pig was tasty, all you can eat doesn't hurt either. We especially enjoyed the fire dancer, and the segment where audience members were taught how to dance in two separate groups, the ladies first, who did an amazing job, and then the guys...with less success. Definitely worth the money. read more

Important note: Germaine's isn't actually at the address they put on Yelp. That's just a bus stop. If you're driving, set your GPS for the real address (yes, it's an industrial area near the power plant): 91-119 Olai Street Kapolei, Hawaii 96707 For a place that advertises itself as "the original Backyard-style Hawaiian Luau," my group really hoped for something more authentic. What we got instead was a whitewashed show that probably would've offended most Hawaiians if the place didn't bring in so much sales tax at $70 to $135 per seat. The evening begins with pulling the kalua pork (roasted whole pig) out of the pit where it's cooked. This part was pretty cool: they pull the hot stones out of the pig with their bare hands! From there, things go downhill. They raffle off some door prizes, which was really wtf??!? but I guess they need to buy some time while people wait in line for food. The kalua pork is amazingly soft and smoky, but the rest of the dinner is kinda meh. The salad, potato salad, and sheet cake (?!) came straight out of a Sysco bag. Also, don't get any of their raw fish -- I had a salmon and tomato dish (lomi lomi?) that tasted like sushi that was left out for too long. Now that everyone's had their fill of Sysco salad and/or potato salad, the show begins. The dancers come out from backstage. Inexplicably, there's a jazz band of a bunch of dudes in Hawaiian shirts strumming along in the background, while the announcer's mumbled explanations of the dancers are can barely be heard. At this point, we're a few drinks in. The bar is super expensive even by New York standards. Most of the drinks cost two drink tickets. I don't remember many details of what happened beyond this but there was a part where they made a bunch of dads dress up like women and dance onstage. The show ends with some really cool dancers who throw fire around like nobody's business. In summary, if you're looking for an authentic luau experience, you definitely won't find it here. And if you want an interactive show for the family with door prizes and other random stuff, don't spend your time in Hawaii here -- you can probably do it for much cheaper in Vegas. read more
I've been to several different commercial luaus and many private and family organized luaus so I'm familiar. Germaine's luau has some nice points to recommend for people coming to Hawaii for a brief visit and wanting to enjoy a cultural experience. The setting, the activities, the food, the entertainment are all very nice. Drink prices are fairly reasonable. read more

We booked this luau for two people through Costco Travels as an add-on activity. Jumping straight into the pros: We liked how the tour bus pick-up location was right down the street from our Waikiki hotel, it was only a thirty minute drive out to the actual luau, we experienced the most beautiful purple and orange sunset during our dinner service, and our tour guide cousin Greg was both funny and knowledgeable. We additionally bought the souvenir photo that they offered for $20, just because we took it in front of the beach and we wanted something to remember the whole affair by. There was even a surprise proposal that happened on the night we went, so love was definitely in the air! Now for the cons: The actual location of venue can afford to have prettier neighbors. But from my understanding, Germaine's was in this beach side location before the industrial developments happened around it sooo.... The food was just okay, although the pig was my favorite. And when locals say Poi is an acquired taste, it's an acquired taste lol. The live music sounded great, but the actual dances were short (duration-wise). Lastly, the host kept on calling for crowd participation, which I'm personally never a big fan of, but other people looked like they were having fun. While we have no regrets and had fun, we would probably look into other luau options for our next visit to the island. read more

I guess it's a must do if you're a tourist. It was a good show but I was disappointed with the food. All my foods were on top of each other. You do get a lot of food but small portions and a wife variety on the plate. I'd rather have just a bunch of something I really like. We got table service and sat up front but I'd imagine it's different if you were seated in the front. The drinks were pretty good and the staff was really friendly and helpful. Long wait times to get us seated. Not sure if that was because of Covid but for the price we paid I would appreciate not waiting on the ticket booth line for 35 minutes. Overall good experience. read more

I've been to Germaine's 3 times now. The first time was amazing. The second time was just as great but this last time with my wife for the first time. It was good. But the entertainment on the buss was way down from normal. Our bus had no AC so they had to switch us out. The food and entertainment there was still amazing. And drinks nice and strong. read more

The best thing about this place was the dancers, I can't imagine the talent and routine that goes into the dances and the overall culture was amazing. However, with that said. This was my first luau and the food was disappointing . I was expecting something more authentic and flavorful, but was left with a bland option. The fresh pineapple was very good left on the table. Be sure to wear flip flops as you are in the sand and maybe some bug spray! The bar offered a free drink with a basic entry, but was poured in a small glass and wasn't that great. Very much well drinks. Overall I understand they have a lot of quantity, but the quality was not great. Plus you have to go through an industrial sketchy area to get to the location. And leaves with a smell in the air possibly from the outlying factories. read more

History
Established in 1976.
Germaine's Luau has been inviting visitors to experience a traditional Hawaiian backyard-style Luau.
Meet the Manager: Aulani K.
Our namesake, Marcia Germaine (who hails from Chicago), fell in love w/ the islands, the people and the "hang loose" feeling of Hawaii. She decided all visitors to the islands should experience the same Ohana (family) style of Aloha. Because of his she sold all of her belongings and moved to Oahu in the 1960's and decided to start her own "luau."
Ask the Community - Germaine's Luau
What if you get there very early? Anything to do there while you wait?
Lots of photo opportunities and that's about it. You're driving thru a lot of industrial before you get there so nothing scenic till you get there. Not sure if the bar would be open that early. The gift shop is very tiny.

Germaines Lauau is the best evening you could have in Hawail, we went for my Daughters Hen party and from getting on the bus (Bus 3) to start to getting off at the end of the night it was great , Reno was absolutely awesome and I don't think I have laught so much in a long time. The show was very good and we all enjoyed the food and had the most fun a hen party could possible have. The hole team at Germaines were great and looked after us really well from the booking right throu to the evening. Thank you all again we had a night to remember. read more
