On my latest visit, I had the bone-in luau, and it was absolutely delicious, tender, flavorful, and full of that local comfort-food goodness. I paired it with their spicy garlic furikake chicken, and that combo did not disappoint! Definitely recommend giving this place a try, but there are a couple of things to know: check their hours before you go, especially on the weekends since they close early. And if you want to get your food without a long wait, line up before they open. The line gets CRAZY! But honestly, the wait is worth it. Come hungry and leave happy... and hopefully remember to write your review before the food coma kicks in!

We got the garlic furikake chicken with garlic butter shrimp and a "small" braised beef short ribs. The chicken and shrimp meal came with the obligatory two scoops of rice and mac salad. The short ribs, because it was a "small" order only came with one scoop of rice and mac salad. The portions were huge, even the short ribs. We had enough for lunch AND dinner, and there is still enough beef (and rice and mac salad) for another meal. It would have been awesome if there was some acid to cut through all the richness of our meal, but I am not a fan of kimchee so we passed on the pickled cucumbers. The chicken was so crispy and there were no nasty bits that make me anti-thigh. Even heating the leftovers up in the microwave didn't change the texture. The chicken came with some sort of sauce that was yummy, but unnecessary in my mind. The shrimp was delightfully garlicky and thankfully served headless. The short ribs were fall apart tender and delicious. It also came with some sauce that I don't think either one of us used. It was good, though. The ube ice cream mud pie was amazing. And amazingly huge. We did not order one, but a woman gave me a slice from her family's piece. Mahalo for a random stranger's generosity! If you're in the area and in the mood for local cuisine, give Broke Da Mouth Grindz a try.

When I took my first bit into the kalbi, life was made good again. It was reset and welcome home I needed. It was a perfectly cut and marinated kalbi. The fish Jin was seasoned so well I barely needed to dip it into a sauce. The portions could have fed 2. I asked if they were related to the Gina's in Market City. Bro, this is the OG Gina's!! The owner said they sold the other one and his mom helped him start this one. It looked like the whole family was behind the counter. I wanted to cry. Not all things have changed in Hawai'i! When we first got to the restaurant, the bartender asked us how many and then directed us to choose our seat. The music was very loud by the bar, so we elected to find a seat as far away from the music as possible. My family and I sat down and looked over the menu. Five minutes passed and no one came by our table nor acknowledged us, other than the bartender at the beginning. After ten minutes passed, a server past us twice, but we still didn't get any acknowledgement nor any water. So we elected to leave and go to a different seafood place. My family and I are pretty understanding people, and it would have been different if someone came by and said something along the lines of, "sorry guys, we're short staffed and will get your order in a bit," or "I'll be right over to take your order," just some type of acknowledgment. Instead we observed a server walk by us twice, look at us and continue to be on their way. That left a sour taste in our mouth and made us feel like we didn't belong. Second, it appeared as though other people were also waiting to either order, get their check, or their food. But the servers were more focused on the patrons at the bar than those on the table. Overall, we were disappointed by the service and decided to go somewhere else for our family dinner.

My recent visit to Germaine's Luau with my family, a mix of locals and visitors, was an eye-opener, and unfortunately, not in a positive way. As a kama'aina, I expected the spirit of Aloha to shine through in every aspect of the experience. However, the lack of courtesy and respect from the staff was stark and disheartening. There were three particular incidents that marred our evening: When my partner was invited on stage, naturally, I wanted to capture the moment. A tourist family kindly allowed me to sit upfront for a better view. However, a staff member repeatedly and loudly instructed me to move, disrupting the recording and leaving an audio trail of the unpleasant interaction. This lack of understanding and respect was jarring. During dinner, while the bus escort was clearing our table, their behavior was unprofessional. They jokingly referred to discarded items as 'throw away nobody,' coupled with laughter. Their attempt at humor fell flat and came off as insensitive and inappropriate. The final straw was during a hula performance, where women were invited on stage. Instead of politely asking other guests to sit for a clearer view, staff members rudely yelled, "SIT DOWN". The absence of basic politeness was shocking. The theme of the show was Aloha, but the behavior of the staff was a poor reflection of this cherished value. The lack of manners and respect was a total letdown. It's disappointing to witness such a display, especially in a setting that should embody the warmth and hospitality of Hawaiian culture. In retrospect, choosing the Polynesia Cultural Center, with its more reasonable pricing and respectful atmosphere, seems like a far better option for future gatherings. I recently attended a luau that was recommended due to staffing issues at Paradise Cove, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. I hate giving negative reviews, but this experience was underwhelming for several reasons. First, there was just too much narration throughout the event. While some explanation is always helpful for these events, the constant talking from the emcee detracted from the flow and enjoyment of the performances. Additionally, there wasn't much diversity in the dancing. It felt repetitive and lacked the vibrant variety we have seen at other luaus. The food was another letdown. It was mediocre at best, and the alcoholic drinks were not up to par either. For an event that often highlights local cuisine and tropical beverages, this was a significant disappointment. One positive note was the band, which played well and added a pleasant ambiance. However, the presence of stray cats wandering around the venue was distracting and a bit gross. The seating arrangement was also uncomfortable. Sitting at picnic tables for three hours was challenging, and the overall setup did not lend itself to a comfortable or enjoyable experience. Additionally, this place sits at the end of a very industrial area, which features junkyards and abandoned, wrecked cars on the road. This setting was not what I expected for a luau and added to an overall negative impression. In comparison, I've had much better luau experiences in Waikiki and on Maui, such as the Maui Nui Luau at the Sheraton Maui Resort. Those events offered better food, more diverse performances, and a more comfortable setting. Overall, this luau was a disappointment, and I wouldn't recommend it. There are better options out there that provide a more authentic and enjoyable Hawaiian experience. read more

I have some tips. This is a great luau experience. I've been a few times and have some pro tips. First, parking is very easy and if using ride share pre-book your return trip for 8;45PM or 9:00PM. The show usually ends between 8:30 and 8:45PM. It's about 30 minutes from Waikiki so Ubers are not as abundant. Second, clothing, the event is right on the beach. Literally. It's beautiful, however it may get a bit chilly at night depending on the weather. Just bring a jacket or some layers with you and leave it in the car. The venue is in the middle of nowhere so don't worry about break-ins. Third, get there on time. The venue is a series of picnic style benches organized by tickets. Red, orange, and green. Red tickets in the back and on the sides, orange in the middle, and green up front. There is no assigned seating per se, so you have to grab your seat. It's much easier to grab a seat for a group when the tables are empty. Pro tip, they'll give you a lei when you arrive and use that to save your spot. No need to put bags on the tables or worse have someone stay to "save" the table. Just place the lei down at the seat and explore. Fourth, the tier of tickets means a little bit. The highest tickets have a catered meal, get a more intricate lei and are seated at the front. The middle teir are seated in the middle, and the lowest teir in the back and along the sides. The beach, bar, restrooms, and buffet are all located in the back and the sides. For me, I like being right near the beach, I like to stand sometimes, so the back is good for me. Fifth, The event is very well organized. For that reason it's important to explore early. The tattoos, the photos with the parrots, and other festivities end when dinner starts, so don't wait til 7pm to do those things. read more

It's all about the 'buses'. If you drive yourself there, you don't exist. We booked this online ourselves and drove ourselves there. We were told the gates open at 5, we got there around 5:10. But nothing was opened - the beverage service and the gift shop didn't open until 5:30. We entered the nightly prize drawing which required your name and bus number, but realized that since we got there before the buses - they arrived between 6 and 6:30, six buses I believe -- our tickets were at the bottom of the box and sure enough all the winners came on buses. The MC talked to the bus people asking where bus 1 or bus 2 was, etc., and the bus guides got up and danced to the screams and cheers of their passengers. Because we and other self drivers got there early we sat toward the center. But they called tables up to the buffet from the outside in, even though we'd been sitting there longer. Again to benefit the bus people. We got there at 5 and sat passed 7 before we got any food. There was a 1/4 pineapple on the table, but pretzels would have been a better choice on an empty stomach. Food was OK, better than some luaus we've been to. But the drinks were sweet and the white wine undrinkable. I'm not a wine snob, but whatever they serve is just bad. Entertainment was acceptable, but again audience participation was encouraged for the bus people. And as stated by others, the drive through the industrial park was strange, we hoped we were following the directions properly. I don't know which came first Germaine's or the industrial park, but that didn't bother us too much. Also, the bathrooms were being renovated and they had trailer bathrooms - with flushing toilets which was good, but no place to wash your hands. Probably won't be going back. read more

A total complete waste of time and money. You get crappy low end food served on a paper tray plus a cheesy show put on by some washed up old farts left over from the dinner theater circut. They start you off with a fake pig in a fake BBQ pit covered with dirty blankets and pretend that this rubber pig will in fact be your dinner. It's not, instead you'll get some pulled pork from a low end deli, coleslaw, stale dinner rolls, patato salad and chicken served on a paper tray with a plastic fork. Throw in 3 watered down drinks to wash this crap down. The location is next to some type of junk yard next to an oil storage area. It's hardly a beach, more of a crime scene, and they won't let you on what little sand there is for fear that you may be fall in the water and die from the polution. Oh, don't forget the long 50 minute bus ride to get there. They are also going to take your picture and then try and sell it to you for an additional 20 bucks. Unless you like wasting a lot of money, and holding hands and chanting with strangers, I seriously suggest you avoid this clip joint. Jermaine's Luau was a really interesting and memorable experience. When you arrive, the location feels very isolated, which adds to the whole luau vibe. They welcome you with a lei and offer to take photos, which is a really nice touch and helps set the mood right away. The food is buffet-style, and unfortunately it wasn't the highlight for me. It was okay, but not something I'd go back for just for the food or drinks. That said, the show was amazing and definitely made up for it. The fire dancers and hula dancers were incredible to watch, and you can tell how much energy and talent goes into the performances. I also loved that they recognize guests celebrating birthdays or anniversaries--it was a really sweet and thoughtful moment. Overall, I'd say the show is much better than the food, but the experience as a whole was still enjoyable. There's a lot going on, but they do a great job keeping it family-friendly and fun. We also got lucky with the weather--it was sunny and not chilly at all, which made the experience even better. We were looking for a luau that we could take the family, (one, two, and five year old). It was the best thing we have done so far. It was a buffet and the food was good. They also had servers helping families hold the children's plates and make their dishes. Our five year old saw them take the pig out of the pit and said he wasn't going to eat it but in the end it was his favorite food of the night. Our one year old loved the food too. His favorite was the pineapple coleslaw. Soft drinks and buffet was unlimited. The price was great. We got our tickets online for a savings at http://www.hawaiidiscount.com. It was very casual. The transportation company that owns Germaine's Luau will not take responsibility and Germaine's Luau will not. Im appalled at the unprofessional manner in which a situation was handled during our pickup at ABC #83 today. A young lady was left outside on the curb crying as she was not on the manifesto. The entirety of the parties on the bus where willing to pay for her transportation. Their was ample room on the bus as parties did not show. But the driver and the office refused to allow her on the bus and as result it has left a bitter taste in all of our mouths. At the next stop the driver did not even check the names of his manifesto so I do not understand the procedures that would preclude one passenger entry at one pickup point but allow anyone at the next. Please take this as a formal complaint. I will not be referring your service or using your service in the future. read more

Germaine's is the ultimate in cheese entertainment. I liken this luau to be a cryogenic frozen experience from 1958. Even the master of ceremonies seems to have been thawed out to direct everyone's attention to the bastardization of Polynesian culture from every island of the pacific. Think of the MC as a voice over guy from a 1950's movie trailer using strong descriptives such as "spine tingling" and "astounding!" So how do you rate such an experience? I liken it to movies like "The Marine" or "Snakes on a Plan." it's a disgustingly fun experience that can never be taken seriously. So, if you want to see a real luau and experience real Polynesian culture, stay far far away from Germaine's. Started off by a 45 minute bus ride. The escort on the bus, starts by telling everyone that if you didn't buy the best packages, you will have bad seats and get served last and basically you were cheap and should upgrade now. On the ride home he told racists stories of Haole Day, where he beat up a Japanese kid, because he was smaller than him and then he said there was going to be traffic due to construction, but you won't see workers, because they are all lazy and don't work. Germaines Lauau is the best evening you could have in Hawail, we went for my Daughters Hen party and from getting on the bus (Bus 3) to start to getting off at the end of the night it was great , Reno was absolutely awesome and I don't think I have laught so much in a long time. The show was very good and we all enjoyed the food and had the most fun a hen party could possible have. Took a bus to the Luau. I wanted to stick a pencil through my eardrums just so I didn't have to listen to the bus tour operator anymore. Most annoying bus ride ever. The guy wouldn't shut up, even on the way back. The performers worked hard, were easy on the eyes, and did a great job interacting with the audience. Best part of the event. I give Germaine's 5 stars! Some people were complaining about this and that but come on they put on one hell of a show! They offer a big buffet! Maybe a bit pricy but again they have an awesome show! It's a SCAM! We became sick from the smell of the industrial wasteland 100 yards away. We couldn't even eat. They try and hide the surroundings and keep you off the beach so you can't see the horrible surroundings. Let me say this again the smell is HORRIBLE. This was an excellent Laua. There was plenty of good food and we got a lot of free drink tickets. We drove our own car and didn't have any problems finding it on the GPS and the traffic was good. The Laua was on the beach right at sunset, which was beautiful. This was my first and only Luau and i wasn't disappointing. read more

1) The Better Business Bureau needs to get involved to protect the tourist from a RIP OFF business like this who has no pride in providing a good product or food. 2) The Department of Health should shut this place down, if for any reason, causing an embarrassment to the Hawaiian culture with their horrible food. read more

Medium tickets get you great seats, 2 drinks a person and a non perishable lei. Get "tattoos", grass crowns, shots of kava, and an amazingly entertaining cultural experience. Only complaint is that a lady guest was standing up and taking videos and blocking everyone else's view behind her. Other than the inconsiderate guest, the show, venue and performers were fantastic. Also, couldn't have asked for more perfect weather!

The luau is offered a few times a week and was luckily being offered on my actual birthday so of course we booked it for that day. Tickets go on sale about 5 months in advance of the dinner date, which may seem daunting to a casual planner but makes perfect sense to an avid Disney-er. Seating for the luau is available in standard seating and premium seating. We picked premium. It came at a higher price tag and, in my opinion, was not necessary. Standard seating was 199 a person and premium seating was 229 a person. All luau guests are treated to activities like lei making, (temporary) tattoos and ukulele lessons before heading over to enjoy the buffet and open bar dinner before the show. Premium diners got the luxury of an extra half hour to peruse the activities. Premium diners also got seating closer to the main stage. (After the show was over, I sat in standard seating to see the difference and it wasn't all that much). Premium diners also got a free digital download of the picture taken with the luau performers. For a larger party, it may have been less expensive to simply pay for the digital download. One big concern I had about the luau was that it would be overly Disney-fied. I love me some Mickey Mouse and Aulani as a resort has several Disney touches, but I wanted my luau experience to be as authentic as possible. My concerns were quickly quelled. Mickey and Minnie were present for about 15 minutes of the 2-hour show. The rest of the luau had beautiful vocals, graceful dancing, and fearless firebreathers. It is my absolute hope to get back to Aulani as quickly as humanly possible, but I think I would skip the luau. At 229 (or even 199) a person, there are much better ways to spend my Disney dollars. That being said, if Aulani is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for you, you should do it.
