Kind of disappointed. For a few years now, I've had great experiences with this vet office, but nowadays theyre either not communicating well with the staff, or they're purposefully giving me the runaround (I really hope it's the first one). For a long time, I've been able to schedule nail trims for my exotic pet (guinea pig). However, I call today, and am told they don't offer this service, and can do it for cats. Which would be great, had I had a cat. Unfortunately I'll have to look for a different vets office, as small animal care does not seem to be an option for this one . read more

I will never trust Germantown Veterinary Clinic with any of my dogs again. I brought my healthy, happy Cavalier in for a routine dental cleaning. I was given an estimate of $399 on the low end and up to $1,400 if extractions were needed. Since I carefully maintain his dental health--brushing regularly and checking his teeth daily--I did not expect any extractions. I explicitly requested that they call me if extractions were deemed necessary before proceeding. I dropped him off at 8 a.m. and, after hours of waiting without any updates, I called twice to check in. They informed me that they hadn't yet started the cleaning. By 3 p.m., I called again, only to learn they had already extracted 15 teeth! They claimed they called an outdated number on file and left a voicemail but never attempted to use the secondary number, despite our verbal agreement that they would contact me first. To make matters worse, the X-rays didn't indicate that extractions were critical or necessary. They justified their actions by saying my dog "wouldn't be in pain anymore," but he wasn't in pain to begin with. All he needed was a simple cleaning to remove minor plaque. This clinic prioritized profit over the well-being of my pet, and I firmly believe dental cleanings are a lucrative business for them rather than a service focused on care. My dog is only six years old and has now lost crucial teeth unnecessarily, altering his quality of life forever. I am devastated. My bill exceeded $1,500--an outrageous amount--but what hurts most is the irreversible impact on my dog's life. I trusted them with his care, and they betrayed that trust by proceeding without my consent. I cannot recommend Germantown Veterinary Clinic, and I urge other pet owners to reconsider before entrusting them with their beloved companions. I'm heartbroken. read more

Took my dog in for yearly shots. Was told she had a sarcoma and may need her toe and/or foot amputated, along with some xrays, possibly some cancer treatments, open wound care, etc. My dog is 6+ years old and unfortunately is an extremely anxious animal. She is afraid of people and every tijme we take her to the vet, she pees and poops on herself (and the vets office). She is already on daily prozac and trazadone for really stressful situations. Listing the immediate costs of 'exploritory' surgery, we realized it would be cruel to put her through extended visits to vets for xrays, procedures, chemo and whatever. We told the vet we decided to put her to sleep instead. Why torture her when the cancer may have already spread throughout her body. We made an appointment and the doctor called us twice, sent us text messages several times trying to talk us out of it, saying if it is the money - we could go someplace cheaper. It is not the money - it is the stress and torture of the dog that concerns me the most. We went for the appointment to put her to sleep- hoping to have a quiet peaceful end with her. Instead the vet gave us such a hard time - arguing with us - I asked does she or does she not have cancer? They said yes - but she could have a good quality of life left. Really? How is torturing her a good quality of life. Every time the vet or technician came in the room - she hid in the corner shaking and peeing herself. We couldn't calm her down even with the drugs we had already given her. We insisted - and they took an hour and a half before they agreed to proceed. We had an appointment, they knew we were coming! They made this SOOOOO much harder on us and the dog! It was NOT a peaceful end for her. They gave her a sedative and she started choking, when we called them back in the room, they said 'Oh, that sometimes happens. It's nothing to worry about, she'll feel sleepy soon, give her 15 minutes and we'll be back with the other shot'. We sat with her choking and us crying until they came back and gave her the final shot. UNBELIEVABLE! It was hard enough on us to put her down, but their attitude and lack of care for us and the dog made it a 100 times worse! Do NOT take your dog here - they are more about the money than the care of your animal. read more

Met the owner and that was horrible. The staff were clueless and the one of the vets was sloppy and gave a misdiagnosis that lead to a pet's death. The facility is clean at least and the pricing is reasonable. However the issues with the owner and the staff and the lack of transparency and reliability makes it impossible to recommend this place. read more

I came to GVC in November of 2024 when it was time to help my sweet, 15 1/2 year old American Feist over the Rainbow Bridge. On a day when I was barely able to hold it together, everyone I encountered treated us with great care and empathy. Dr. Tidd and the vet tech (I wish I could remember his name) were so gentle and full of compassion, they made a terrible day as bearable as possible. Rusty's last moments were peaceful and dignified, thanks to the humane and professional treatment he received there. I was not a GVC client before, but they will be my first choice in the future. Don't go here if you're dog needs anything beyond basic check ups. I could go on and on about how they struggle to answer questions, show competent knowledge beyond the basic, told me they were going to refill meds only to find out they were out of stock during pickup etc. They don't even ask the type of diet that you're dog is on - it would have been nice to know that legumes can cause heart disease before my dog got heart disease. The worst of all, they were negligent with my dogs prescription. For the last five refills, they gave me double the dose without altered instructions. Unbelievably careless and reckless. read more

We recently left the DC area and we were very sad to have to leave the care of the veterinarian team at Germantown Vet; we had taken our two pomeranians to GV since 2011. We were consistently impressed with their communication and willingness to provide conservative treatment recommendations. The pricing for checkups, procedures, and in-house meds is about on-par with the average practice in my opinion. We also previously used their boarding/pet resort services when they were still offered and we were pleased with that as well. We never had any issues scheduling appointments, including up to the day we were scheduled to fly out. Our older dog has quite a few health eccentricities and we've always received compassionate, informed care from the team at GV. We've mostly seen Dr. Robin and Dr. Rizol, but the other docs have also been great in our experiences. We have been really impressed with the honesty of the practice: numerous times this year, we had to call for emergency appointments (a $75 emergency fee when no regular slots are available); however, at least two times we received a call back informing us that there was a last minute cancellation and that we would not have to pay the extra fee. Dr. Robin worked with us to make sure our dogs were ready for their big move by going through the prescription list, providing refills, and prescribing a mild sedative to help with our dogs' travel anxieties. When we met with our new vet across the country, they were impressed with the detailed records transferred from GV and complimented how prepared we were to manage our dogs' health. I would unreservedly recommend Germantown Vet to anyone looking for a new vet in the area. The entire staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and always looking out for a pet's best interests. read more

I agree with one of the other reviews. It can be a hit or miss with this vet office. My recommendation is to do your research and to pick your veterinarian for your pets appointments, most are great. Dr Croen, Dr. Tidd, Dr. Titus, and Dr. Gryskiewicz are wonderful doctors and my recommendations. Their front desk staff and techs are superb. Previous client. Asked to take my dog in for rabies and DHLPP vaccination update and checked in to see if there were any other recommendations. Got $634 "guestimate" which I can't afford right now. I emailed back before appointment to make sure I could just get the rabies and DHLPP vaccinations thinking these are the "big ones" to take care of and was given the "okay" but to inform the technician. Get to the appointment , I inform the technician. After some brief questions about $$'s I again let her know I only want the rabies and DHLPP vaxes. I could tell she was upset that I was asking prices, but what can you do? Sometimes you've got to count your pennies. After informing me about the vax and how it lepto could kill dogs OR humans, she tells me they won't give my dog vaccinations unless they also have a yearly exam... The guestimate for that, about $250 total... And now I'm at square one...looking for a new vet. :) In my opinion, the place is a little overly pricy, and tacks stuff onto the bill. But hopefully the treatment is good and most that worked there kind to the animals. So if you've got pennies to spare, the place for you. But if you can't afford it all, you might need to find another place. read more

My dog Rocco is 1.5 years now and we have been taking him to see Dr.Arnold since he was a puppy. Rocco is a covid puppy so I was not allowed inside for any of his puppy visits. The tech would pick him up and drop him off to the car, and I was always so surprised with how eagerly he would go inside with them. It was very obvious that he was extremely comfortable with the staff. Overall the staff made a strong effort to make sure his experience at the vet and mine as a first time dog owner extremely seamless. The front desk staff is extremely organized and patient. I would be able to call with any concerns or questions and get them answered by the vet techs or the doctors over the phone instantly. Could not be more happy with my experience here! read more

I have a cattle dog that presents with aggression when taken to the vet. Me and my family are long time clients here and are usually amazing with our dogs, but they obviously have no experience with dogs with any sort of behavioral issue. Last time I took my dog to the vet, she was muzzled and had taken trazadone and gabapentin before going into the appointment. When I took her, they could not figure out a way to do a proper examination on her and then proceeded to tell me that she shouldn't be around people. They were saying this based on seeing her in ONE situation. The only time she is ever aggressive is at the vet. My dog LOVES my friends and family, and is great with people when properly introduced. The fact that the actual veterinarian said I should keep her away from people at all times, and keep her locked up when new people come into the house is ridiculous. Will NEVER be returning here again. We have now found a new vet who is amazing with her and understands her behavioral and physical needs. If your pet has any sort of behavioral issue, I beg you to please take them somewhere else. read more

For this old practice a chance to speak on the unprofessional tactics they use to communicate with pet owners whom have been there only twice for care. Besides not communicating in a reasonable manner..I will have to let the public know they quoted me a $700.00 DEPOSIT...for each dog to stay at their resort. I have taken a tour and (it's not a resort)....and I said I'd get back with them after Thanksgiving 2018...instead they send me a nasty letter regarding the receptionists responses to my questions needing to be addressed...on this high amount..why this is needed for such a large deposit. The care of my dogs are very very IMPORTANT to Me! But, Im HAPPY I see more what's behind the door To Ask The Right Questions! I guess I did...only now I can say...I'm glad I DIDN'T sign up ......I had given the MANAGER a chance to speak with me...but guess she is too embarrassed to talk. We love the clinic! We have been taking our dog here since she was born 10 years ago. We came because they were highly recommended by my in laws who have been here almost 20 yrs- 2 different dogs! The service is great -the staff is friendly and prices are within range. We have also used their boarding when we went away on a family trip and the services were nice and they kept us updated throughout the trip about our dog. Recently our dog has had a heart murmur detected and they have been very thorough about checking her each and every appointment and now I have been recommended to a cardiologist to follow up. Definitely thankful they caught that and didn't miss that as our dog is my kids best friend. Today's visit was Dr. Arnold was awesome and Honey loves everyone here. read more

This clinic tried to rip me off by trying to sell me a lot of deworming/flea medications that are poisoned at this little age of my puppy. They didn't acknowledge the vaccine that our breeder already gave so that they could scheduled us additional shot. You're a vet, you should have known that the puppy has its own immune system and its could be screwed up by a lot of unnecessary shots and medications. Or even worse, they prescribed us a brand of deworming medication that contains the ingredient that can cause allergy in our puppy's breed. (Glad we know about this from our breeder) Please go to another vet that really cares about your puppy, but not the money read more

when i was a teen, making minimum wage about 10 years ago, i put my dog, sushi, on their wellness plan. it was all i could afford and im so glad i found this place. 10 years later, i ended up with 4 cats who also get seen here as well! sushi hated the vet and this was the only vet that treated with with respect and understanding. we had just put him down also at germantown vet. dr. titus was so soothing and explained the process so well. forever grateful to the doctors and vet techs that have helped sushi over the years. he lived a long happy life because of all your help. read more

First off I don't know why I haven't posted a review about our Vet before. 1. We moved to Germantown 3.5 years ago. We switched bets because well the old one was now quite a drive away. 2. Germantown Vets was recommended highly by friends. Yesterday (September 17, 2016) I was reminded again why we love our Vet. Dylan (my dog) was limping pretty bad. I was, well I was a basket case). The vetrinary assistant and the vet got me calm, gave me a course of action and then took Dylan to get X-Rays of his knees and hips. Needless to say I was panicking. I went home a nervous wreck (they had to have Dylan for a couple of hours to do the X-Ray). They called the minute they had the results of the X-Ray (he had torn a muscle - no joint or ligament damage). Boy did I feel better. Now, why do you go to a vet? Your pet isn't doing well. What do you need? 1. Calm 2. Reassurance 3. explanations I highly recommend Germantown Veterinary Clinic. They are simply world class in their care for our dogs. We have lived in the DMV area and had our dog, Bailey, for nearly fourteen years. During that time, we utilized several different veterinary practices and boarders over those years but none that come close to this one. We started coming to this practice about 4 years ago and only wish that we had made the switch earlier. Everyone - from the doctors, to the techs, to the boarding staff, to the front desk - have always been fantastic. They have been responsive, caring, competent and understanding. And we have utilized just about every service they have from routine checks and vaccines, emergency visits, and boarding. We even had some emergencies while boarding (nothing that happened while at facility but one instance where she had developed an eye infection right before dropping off) and the fact that they were able to examine Bailey, call and give me updates throughout the process, really helped alleviate my nerves while we were away on vacation to know that she was being cared for a well as I would have done so at home. The boarding process and services are fantastic, easy to book (with pick up hours also on Sunday afternoon), and we have utilized them many times over the years for periods of just a few days to extended vacation lengths. Bailey used to exhibit anxiety over being boarded and so we have utilized multiple different companies across the area over the years, but she truly seemed to 'enjoy' her time there with not the same frantic or anxiety whenever we picked her up or brought her back. And there would be many other boarders that we would see on our 45-minute drive to Germantown Veterinary Clinic, but we always made that trip as was always worthwhile. We also experienced with other vets and boarders in the area, a certain 'reluctance' or reticence to get close to her because she was a pit bull due to all of the stigmas that go with that breed. But Bailey was the sweetest and least aggressive dog - let alone pit-bull- and never once did I feel that hesitation from anyone on the staff like I had at many other companies in the area. Lastly, we recently had to make the hard decision of letting her go as she had started to develop illnesses and conditions related to her advanced age that could no longer be cured or treated. I was blown away by the compassion and kindness of the staff on that very difficult day (and beyond even). They were beyond sensitive, and I could not have imagined a better experience for us or for Bailey for that tremendously emotional and difficult time. A person may expect this to be standard, however, I know from first hand experience with human related illnesses, it's not always the case and we truly felt the genuine compassion. In short, terrific veterinary and boarding services with a compassionate staff that would not hesitate to recommend anyone to try out and utilize. read more

This would be a half-way descent animal clinic however for one, they "OVER CHARGE" for Everything!! Also, they charge for a 7% or so Extra Charge on your bill for what they call a "Sterilization Fee"! This is not only Insane but Illegal! Just to half clean everything that touched your pet. I came in today with a very sick rabbit. Upon asking, the vet did a swab/culture test that Pender (in Fairfax) refused to do after multiple visits. They even got all of his previous records sent over for me. I know that they don't specialize in exotics, but that's a pretty good start compared to everywhere else we've been. I took my dog to this clinic for the first time and it was the last time. This was over a year ago, but I never forgot the way the Vet treated my dog and myself. She had very little patience and was cold. She seemed to care more about the $$$ then caring about our needs. She pushed all kinds of sales on me. She said, if we purchased the tick and flee drops elsewhere, even if it's a reputable place like Petsmart, it could be a counterfeit product. It cost $100 just for the drops for the tick and flee prevention. But more than that, she was just cold, and her technician was like a robot. The tech took my tiny dog out of the room to clean her ears and my dog came back whimpering. I never went back afterwards. PRESSURING me to purchase their product was a huge turnoff. That female vet needs to learn some bedside manners and remember that you are a vet first not a sales person. read more

I have been going to Germantown Veterinary Clinic for about 10 years, and have had 3 cats in their care over that time frame. They are always professional and the quality of their care is excellent. Their facilities are clean and they have separate dog and cat waiting areas, along with a play area for kids. When I had a cat with a chronic illness, they were very upfront about the diagnosis and prognosis and clearly communicated what care they were giving and what we needed to do at home. When she eventually passed away they were very caring and even sent a condolence card. They offer pet wellness plans that provide a convenient way to pay for care over the year. The plans include 2 checkups, all the vaccinations and tests, and 4 additional office visits (in the event of an unexpected illness) at a reasonable monthly rate. I have also boarded my current cat with them in the past and plan to again this year. Their boarding rates are decent and the facilities are nice. I definitely recommend them. read more

The technician during my visit to the clinic was I think named Javy, and he was amazing with my cat. My cat was so calm with him and comfortable. The technician also patiently answered my many questions and concerns regarding my cat. Also, the doctor and front desk staff were personable. They were clear in communication and professional. With four dogs and two cats, the vet's office is our second home. And, with the money we spend on yearly vaccines and tests alone, I expect the works. Germantown Vet Clinic definitely delivers. Oh, and they also have free soda and bottled water while you wait. The office is immaculate considering the clientele. If a shaggy dog comes in and sheds all over the floor, someone immediately comes over to sweep. The exam rooms are also very clean. Almost every vet tech knows us and our animals by name. They ask how everyone is doing and even remember previous ailments. This is incredible! Now, for the important part: the vets. All vets on staff are credible and personable. The owner can be a little aloof, but she's a great surgeon and really knows her stuff. They have a new vet (I think he's just out of school) who is a little green and can be nervous with owners, but with pets he's very gentle. If you can, schedule an appointment during the week; weekends are nuts and the vets can be rushed. Also, beware of those owners who aren't paying attention to their mean dog who wants to eat your cat. Because the waiting area is open, these owners think it's cute when their German Shepard is lunging at your cockapoo bearing it's teeth. The only drawback (as with most vets) is the "upsell" of tests and medication your pet doesn't need. They aren't terrible about it; just make suggestions but will back off when you say no. read more

Googled my life away for a vet in Montgomery County that was semi affordable when I started noticing my cat was getting sick. My primary vet in Waldorf was triple booked and knew I had to bring in my cat somewhere ASAP. Anywhere around Rockville (where I live) was going to cost a fortune and this vet fortunately had a discount for first time patients, so I took the offer! The lady on the phone (when I was making the appointment) was amazingly friendly! She could tell I was freaking out and very anxious, but gave me reassurance and calmed me down. Even asked the vet for some advice for what I can do for the mean time before the appointment. Also offered to squeeze me in that day, but my schedule didn't work. However I got an appointment for first thing the next day! They even told me if he's not better, to just come once they open and to let them know we would be on the way. Fortunately, we didn't have to do that, but I love that they even offered it. The facility was nice and clean and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Got an exam, fecal testing and prescribed cat food for $170. Average pricing. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

I cannot recommend all of the services they provide highly enough. We have three cats and a dog, and end up at the vet a lot. We have always felt like the staff has gone out of their way to provide the best care they can for all of them. The vets and techs there are all friendly and accommodating. They've never dealt with our animals in a way that we weren't comfortable with, which is a huge deal to us since we're overprotective at times. They've knowledgeable, and we've never left feeling like we didn't know what was going on and how to deal with a problem. Their trainer, Paula, is by far the best we've dealt with in the area. She only uses positive enforcements methods (and actually means it, unlike some others) and really understands dogs and motivation n a way few others do. She holds puppy training classes in the evenings in the open area in the lobby (after office hours) and having our dog attend was one of the best decisions we've ever made. She makes training fun for the dogs, to the point that our dog loves going to the vet because he associates it with the fun he had while training. If only we could do the same for the cats. Their boarding facilities are excellent as well, and they're the only place we use when we need to head out of town. They've always gone above and beyond for us, from fitting our dog in for a week when our power was out for an extended period (his breed has overheating problems, and leaving him at home when the AC wasn't working wasn't an option) to sending sending photos to my wife of him playing with the staff while we were gone. They're not cheap, but I've never considered their rates anything less than fair. This is by far the best vet we've dealt with in any of the areas we've lived, let alone Germantown. read more

I can't tell you how happy I am that I stumbled upon this clinic. On a Saturday around noon, we noticed our Bernese Mountain Dog was not feeling well. We were pretty positive it was a UTI (which means we needed antibiotics). New to the area, we hadn't really found a veterinarian to go to and were left with not many options considering it was a weekend. I turned to Yelp to find a place quickly. The office closes at two, and I called right about 1:30 PM, probably sounding desparate. The receptionist was so friendly and completed my basic information over the phone while we drove there. They waited for us and never made us feel like we were encroaching on them being able to go home. The office was clean and every single staff member had a smile on their face. We saw Dr. Rizol, and she was so incredibly nice! The veterinary technician was the sweetest girl who made my somewhat uncomfortable dog relax (with the help of a few treats!). It is apparent these ladies love their jobs and that they're very good with animals. The bill was not outrageous; in fact, I would consider it to be very fair. I will definitely be returning and will recommend to all the obsessive-compulsive pet owners I know! read more

Our dog unexpectedly passed away this past Saturday, after an appointment with Germantown Vet. We frantically called the office after hours and there was no emergency contact. We sent an email and received no response back. Received a call from them Monday morning, I explained to them that our dog had passed away on Saturday. First thing out of the representatives mouth was about the remaining commitment financially related to the Wellness plan. Last thing I wanted to hear, absolutely no compassion. Would not recommend this overpriced, insensitive place to anyone. There are better options. read more
