We switched both of our cats to this place as we had heard good things from family and friends. The staff and doctors are wonderful and friendly. We took our cat in for her senior exam last year and after the results, our doctor discussed her coming in either in December or January of this year. We got an estimate for the scope of work in early December, which was $425. I called in early January, after the holidays, and the first available appointment that could meet our schedule was in February, and nobody told us that our cat needed to be medicated so they could get a good blood pressure reading. We had to reschedule and brought her in yesterday. The doctor was thorough and we chatted, and then I left and went to pay the bill. The bill was $756 and when I questioned it, the person checking me out just shrugged her shoulders. I got home, looked at the receipt with the breakdown and the estimate and things were added without our knowledge or consent. I then emailed them that I wanted our records after the blood work results were in as we were switching vets. Beware! **Update** I spoke with them and we agreed to a partial refund of what we suggested. The process was still very friendly and mutually respectful and I have updated this back to 4 stars. Just make sure you are read the estimate and make sure they stick to it or at least update you on why it needs to change. We are very upset we needed to switch vets as our cats loved/love it there but sadly it is out of principle. read more

Bottom line, they "get" cats. First, they let your cat get settled/comfortable in the exam room so they are free to either stay in their carrier or explore (even a cat perch by the window in one of the rooms). The exam table has a heating pad. Exam rooms have Feliway diffusers. Techs are super gentle and know how to approach and handle cats. My cat recently had a visit to the ER and they actually called to check in and see how my cat was doing even BEFORE the emergency vet followed up with me. When talking to them over the phone about our recent ER visit, they advocated for my cat and were shocked when they found out that the emergency vet did NOT prescribe pain meds or a bladder relaxant after my cat developed acute cystitis (painful, frequent, urination and inflammation causing blood and clots in the urine, if not well managed it can lead to a complete blockage). They said even though he is not showing overt signs of pain- cats are stoic and really conceal their pain well. If pain is not well managed, it can delay recovery. Yes, prices are probably slightly more than an average vet. But they are incredibly knowledgeable, thorough, compassionate.. from the front desk- the vet techs- the vets. Everyone has been amazing. I drive 35+ minutes to bring my cats there- that is how fond I am of the practice. read more

I was looking for a vet practice that really focused on cats and would be able to give my two kitties the attention they need (plus no dogs in the waiting room makes everyone's stress lower). A Cat Clinic has proven a godsend, and I only wish I could bring them with us when we move! They're transparent about pricing and don't try to upsell anything. The techs are definitely cat people and love working with the little fluffers, even when the cats are scared. (Treats help. Those Churu cat gogurt treats in specific.) The vets are kind, compassionate, and take the time to explain what they recommend and why. And they send updates on any tests they do so you have a full picture of your cat's health. I did the senior screen on my 12 year old cat, particularly because her brother unexpectedly and suddenly died 4 months ago. The vet has been so clear about the results, what our senior kitty needs, and how to avoid future problems. She's been so helpful on working with me, and in making sure our little girl is ready for her spay next month and that both are able to make the 16 hour car trip in March to their new home. (The answer is Gabapentin.) It's not cheap, I'll warn you. But if you want topnotch care with compassion, warmth, and professionalism, this is the clinic for you. If you can't afford services, ask what can be done. They're willing to work to get stuff into the realm of the doable. In short, if you've got cats and you don't have to do only bare-bones veterinary treatment, bring them here. Especially if they've got complex issues or mystery problems. If you have the luck of being able to bring your cat here for his or her health needs, your cat will be in some of the best hands ever. This vet office was brought to my attention by a coworker who has several cats and considers them her babies. Nothing but the best for them. I was telling her about my cat's declining health and that I was certain it was time to say goodbye, but wanted it as calm as possible. While my cat handles dogs fine, I thought, the quieter and more calm, the better for his last moments. So, we made the hour drive out to A Cat Clinic with our beloved cat, Turbo, to say our final good byes. We've never before been to this vet office. But they treated us as if we were repeat customers. Turbo's last moments were calm and the vet did an amazing job at helping him pass on peacefully and quickly. It still makes me tear up just to type that last sentence because Turbo was such a good boy that unfortunately had a disease that shortened his lifespan. Before the procedure, they also asked if we'd like to pay first so that we didn't have to deal with that after the fact. I recommend doing that. You're going to be so teary-eyed, that you won't be able to see to find your money. They gave us all the time we needed alone with Turbo's body before we left as well. About a week later or so, we received a condolences card from the office complete with a handwritten, short note. And more recently, we received a card from the Winn Feline Foundation. Turns out that A Cat Clinic had made a donation to them in Turbo's name. That's amazing and really shows their love for cats. They sent us a card and even made a donation in his name, and they only first met him on the final day of his life. read more

I took my cat here after seeing two other vets for care (one of whom was a specialist vet). Even though the drive for an appointment was 45 minutes from my house each way (if the traffic was good), it was so worth it. The staff - from the reception staff, to the vet techs, to the vets, are so responsive and excellent. I've never had such easy, helpful, and responsive communication with a vet practice. They provide expert, knowledgeable care. We mostly saw Dr. Kraut who explained things about my cat's very serious, chronic conditions in a clear and helpful way and was creative in trying to get him back to a stable condition. Because of my cat's medical conditions, we also used their boarding service which was excellent and very reasonably priced. read more

If you have cats, I 100% recommend having their medical needs taken care of here. Before coming here, I had them checked out at Banfield pet hospital, and the difference is astounding. For one thing, here I was taken into the exam room with both of my cats, which was very nice since I was then able to see what was going on with my cats throughout the visit, I could be there to keep them calm since both were allowed to explore the room when the vet and her assistant weren't in the room (another difference, one that's appreciated since one of my cats is skittish in new places), and, most importantly, ask questions directly to the vet and not through an app with a vet that probably hadn't even seen my cats. We were also given advice on how to take even better care of my cats where needed (turns out I was giving them too much dry food and too little wet food), and they even gave me some freebies to try out to improve their dental health. Both of those things didn't happen at Banfield (at least not the one in my area). It's also pretty affordable, too. After the deposit (which was paid when I made the appointment), their first visit was under $200. Absolutely recommend. read more

We drive almost 35 minutes past several other places because this place/staff are so good. My cat is 15 years old, so it's safe to say that I've had my fair share of experiences with vets. I have taken him to vets all over the Germantown and Gaithersburg area, but I've never felt as comfortable as I did when I recently first came to A Cat Clinic. It was as painless as it could be (once you exclude the battle scars I got getting him into the carrier, lol). First off, I love that A Cat Clinic only deals with cats. Their reasoning is basically that: 1) they love cats, and 2) this allows the cats to feel more at ease because they don't smell the scents of other animals. Makes complete sense. I also feel like my cat is getting better care because the vets and assistants are more experienced and focused solely on cats. I also love the ambience of A Cat Clinic. It doesn't look like a vet's office. It's inside a renovated house, and it has been decorated to make it feel very cozy. I felt very comfortable walking in. The exam rooms are spacious as well. There was enough room for my cat to explore while we waited, but there were also nooks and crannies for him to hide in if he wanted to hide, like behind a chair. He did both. The staff were very gentle with him. You can tell they love cats. They talked to him in the same voice you'd use to talk to a baby; that's how you know someone loves cats! :-) They did their exam quickly yet thoroughly, and he didn't even cry when they gave him a shot. That was surprising because he usually cries the entire time. Christina at the front desk is very friendly. I enjoyed talking to her and she was really helpful in giving me information about the clinic. I also appreciated the free samples of dental treats and heartworm medication. The only reasons for 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 stars are as follows. Firstly, there appeared to be a lot of miscommunication because whoever I spoke to on the phone to schedule the appointment the day before gave me incorrect information. She told me the senior exam would be a little over $100, there would be a complimentary nail trim, and I didn't need to bring anything except method of payment. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told that the senior exam was $450 (!!!!!!), there was no nail trim, and I was supposed to bring a fecal sample. That was weird. Secondly, the prices for exams are pretty steep. I can't put a price on the love I have for my cat, but $450 is still a lot of money. I would like to give him whatever he needs without breaking the bank, but I suppose it is like that at any vet. It costs money to run these medical tests, so I understand. I will continue to go to A Cat Clinic for my cat's needs. It feels so much better than other vets, and I will definitely take advantage of their other services, such as grooming and boarding, in the future. read more

I was referred by a trusted vet to A Cat Clinic & the staff were incredibly responsive beginning with my first anxious call about my 14-year-old cat with a lump on his chest. Two days later, we drove from DC for the initial visit and Dr. Mustillo was informative, incredibly patient in answering my questions & transparent about clinical issues & expected costs. I rarely write reviews, but I think A Cat Clinic deserves a good review from me. Two months ago, my girl suddenly lost her appetite. I took her to a Vet close by. The vet did a blood work for her, and sent us home with no treatment. I became very worried that night and started to search for other vets online and found that A Cat Clinic has great reviews. I called to make an appointment, the girl at the front desk told me there was no availability until next week. However, she asked me the reason for the appointment, then she consulted the vets and was able to get me an appointment the next morning! The next morning I got partial results of the blood work back. My cat's red blood cells count was really low. I showed the results to Dr. Mustillo, and she suspected it was caused by either Felv or FIP and suggested to screen for common feline viruses. She didn't want to draw new blood because "my cat really needs the blood now". She called the blood work center and was able to add several tests using the existing blood sample. She gave my cat a vitamin injection, a pill to ease her stomach, and an antibiotic prescription. The next morning Dr. Rubenstein called me about the results. Unfortunately, FIP is positive. Although most cats would test positive and blood test alone cannot confirm the diagnosis, we have ruled out other possibilities. I agreed with Dr. Rubenstein's judgement that my little girl most likely had FIP. That night I found that my cat developed a pot-belly, which meant she got fluid accumulation in abdomen and she got the effusive (most dangerous) form of FIP. After my cat passed away, I got a card from Dr. Mustillo. A few days ago, I got a card from a Feline foundation saying that A Cat Clinic has made a donation in the name of my cat. I wrote this review because I want other cat lovers to know that Dr. Mustillo and Dr. Rubenstein are great Vets. They really care about cats. They are very caring, professional, knowledgeable and experienced. I believe all cats coming here are in good hands. read more

This year I adopted a male two-year-old orange tabby in March 2013. Initially, I subscribed to Banfield Clinical Hospital in Germantown, MD, but after I had a terrible experience with them (see my review in Yelp) and also doing a research into the local veterinarian offices I went to A Cat Clinic for a second opinion. Thank god I did! Dr. Rubinstein is knowledgeable, sensitive to cats and cats parents' needs and further more, she has common sense, which seem in short supply these days. I like very much the facility itself and the fact that I don't have to share the waiting room with other noisy animals and the free coffee and cookies are a plus. The staff is always polite and professional and always had done the best to answer my questions and get me appointments in a timely manner. The price is higher than other veterinarians but in my experience, you get what you pay for (my previous experience with Banfield taught me a painful lesson) and Dr. Rubenstein goes above and beyond the call of duty by keeping in touch by email and reminding me when follow up is needed. As long as I can afford it, I will continue taking my two cats to this practice. read more

About 13 years ago, my cat dislocated her hip. A Cat Clinic popped it back in, helped me whenever I needed it, and were able to get my cat back to where she needed to be. Now, I have a rescue, thats about a year old. A Cat Clinic is just as accommodating, professional, and caring as they were when I met them so many years ago. They are highly recommended. Calming, caring, compassionate care for your cat. We have trusted A Cat Clinic, Dr. Rubenstein and her staff for over about 18 years from our first cat to our current two cats, and we have referred friends to A Cat Clinic. We like: - the calming, no dogs barking (no dogs) environment in the reception area decorated with cat decorations and the coffee, tea, and animal crackers available for the human caretakers - clean, cheery examining rooms where you bring your pet - the staff has always been gracious and interacted with the cat in a gentle, calm manner, and talk nicely to the cat and you. - Dr. Rubenstein and all her doctors take their time to patiently explain whatever needs to be done and answer all your questions. - The office calls you the next day after a procedure to see how your cat is doing. Dr. Rubenstein truly cares about your cat and will do what is best for it and to ease any suffering. Our cat had a bad ear hematoma. After learning the surgeon wasn't going to be back for two weeks, I called back to the office on Saturday to let them know how much worse the ear had gotten (the entire ear looked like an over-inflated pillow) and asked what to do. Over the weekend and on her day off, Sunday, Dr. Rubenstein contacted the surgeon and made arrangements for her to come in that week to do an emergency surgery for our cat and gave me advice on how to help the cat. The follow-up care for Monday to ease his pain and aspirate his ear twice, and the surgery were very reasonably priced. I think the fact that Dr. Rubenstein took personal time on Saturday and Sunday to make special arrangements for our cat and e-mail me back on my questions shows the extremely high level of commitment, care, and compassion she and her staff has. I am extremely grateful and our cat is healing well. I highly recommend this caring, compassionate clinic who specializes in cats. They are the best! read more

I recently moved from Houston Texas to Silver Spring. When in Houston, I had the awesome services of Houston Cat Hospital and Dr. Kathleen Smith there, when they took awesome care of my 3 cats. Being a single guy, my cats are like my children and I want them taken care of very well. And with one of them having various health issues ever since I adopted him, having a great Vet is prime concern for me. I won't go into the details of how I wound up over 30 minutes away (remember, I live in Silver Spring) but suffice it to say, I'm thrilled I did. When I moved, my "sickly" cat was in the middle of a health issue so I had to see someone quickly. Dr. Smith told me what she suggested to solve his issue. When I brought them to see Dr. Rubenstein at A Cat Clinic, she checked him out, called Houston Cat Hospital for a copy of his records, and long-story-short, she came up with a different solution to his issue, which happened to be a bit cheaper too! Mind you, I'll pay what I have to do in order for my babies to be healthy, but it's nice that she didn't just take what Dr Smith had suggested. Even today, I brought all 3 of them in for a nail trim and had asked Dr. Rubenstein if she wanted to examine him, since he's finishing up his antibiotics. She asked if he was doing well, and I said yes and she said that was good enough for her! The entire staff is so sweet, and very accommodating. It's really tough for me since I live so far away, but my cats are worth it. I even got a really nice handwritten card from them once I started going to their clinic signed by the entire staff, welcoming me to their clinic. Very nice touch indeed! read more

In the fall of 2014 I set out to find a new vet - I gathered a list of the top rated (on Yelp!) 7 or 8 vet offices within a 25 miles radius. My cat had gotten ringworm and I wanted to talk to a veterinarian about treatment plan and medications. I called all the offices on the list and not a single vet returned my call - except for A Cat Clinic. Dr. Mustillo called me later that day and discussed how they treat ringworm and the oral medication they prescribe. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and wasn't rushing to get off the phone. The ACC staff was welcoming and friendly, the environment cozy and peaceful, and Dr. Rubenstein was kind and patient. My experience with ACC has been overwhelmingly positive - Dr. Rubenstein consistently calls me back the same day if I have a question the staff cannot answer. During the ringworm period I had numerous questions, Dr. Rubenstein and the ACC staff were extremely patient, accessible, and genuine. There are also no surprises when it comes to the vet bill - the services are transparent. I requested an appt through the online service and did not receive a response back. I then called and was put on hold for a long time only to be told that it would be a week before my cat could be seen. She is in pain and needs someone to help. I can't even begin to describe how special the Cat Clinic is to my family. They took care of my sweet boy Rockford for 2 to 3 years before he passed away in December 2019. His health declined dramatically in just one month. I had many worried calls and emails with the Clinic staff each week as something new would happen to him and I found myself unsure of what to do. They were all very understanding, compassionate, and caring towards Rockford. It sometimes seems like their knowledge and determination to help us is endless. All the vets there were ready with one more thing we could try to make our baby more comfortable. They were constantly educating us so we can be better pet parents. I learned a lot about cats I couldn't have found on my own. When the time finally did come when we knew we had to say goodbye they helped us through that as well. They take care of our newer family member Frankie with the same care they've always shown us. I can leave Frankie there for a week in boarding while on vacation without worrying because I know they'll take great care of him. Most of the receptionists know us right away when we call and I love them all!
