These reviews are SO disconcerting!! We took our 2 wheaten terriers there and were always met with care from the seasoned, professional, experienced staff members from the front door to the back of the house!! Dr Amoroso was a true, honest and genuine pro at interacting with patients AND their fur-family! He was a knowledgeable, intelligent diagnostician. To now hear of this CORPORATE approach, to the care and treatment of the "patients", at this facility is truly unsettling. The GOOD NEWS IS there are OTHER OPTIONS in the neighborhood!! DO NOT USE A PRACTICE that is not invested in respecting you, your fur-baby and equally(!!) as important is the lack of "best practices" on behalf of BOTH OF YOU!! Let's say GOOD-BYE to any business that comes to this community and isn't able to demonstrate and deliver kindness, care and integrity--especially when it impacts a member of "our family"!! Our dog Hattie was cared for by Falls Road Vet for 8 years. We started with Dr. Amoroso and Dr. Ainsworth who helped us through a challenging medical condition that was never really diagnosed (due to excellent guidance and knowing what to and what not to put a dog through). We all rolled with the punches and Hattie received excellent care through the years. We often boarded her with Falls Road Vet where she was spoiled and loved by the staff and we could travel knowing she was safe. Very recently Hattie got very sick -- during the holidays where schedules were really light. Enid moved mountains to get Hattie seen by Dr. Amanda Forbes, who in turn spent 3 hours with us reviewing test results and calling around to find a specialist who would come to Falls Road Vet the next day (New Years' Eve) for diagnostics to confirm what was going on. Dr. Forbes is amazing. The whole staff, through our last day with Hattie, was supporting, loving and helpful. We cannot thank Falls Road enough for the last 8 years. And yes, things change, people retire, and private equity purchase of small family-owned practices is here to stay. I remember looking at Dr. Ainsworth with fear a couple years ago when she relocated closer to her own family and she assured me that "we were going to be in good hands" once she left... and she couldn't have been more correct. Avoid. They used to be great, but they told us that our dog, which has never been aggressive, but after taking her back for an examination they immediately brought her out and said she would only be allowed for a visit if we first sedated her before bringing her in. She hadn't bitten them, according to them, but was too " rambunctious. " This is a dog that hasn't bitten anyone, ever, has never met a stranger in her life, and loves interacting with people. We took her to another vet and they couldn't believe that any vet or animal handler would have ever recommended sedation. When we tried to talk with the manager, she never returned our call, and then we called again and they told us she had left and would call us. She didn't. We moved to a vet that actually seems to know how to interact and care about animals. read more

We recently had a potentially serious emergency with our dog (which only EVER seem to happen on Fridays). I was able to get an appointment within 2 hours with Dr. Forbes (the newest full-time Vet to join the already amazing team at Falls Road Veterinary Hospital). SHE is literally the best vet we have ever had (but we do love ALL of the staff here). She was literally on the floor with our dog while simultaneously thoroughly explaining every step of thorough her exam as she performed it. She did a few xrays and, as a surgeon (NOT all vets actually do surgery), was able to truly offer concrete medical opinions giving reassurance that our emergency had been averted. We did NOT need to go sit endlessly in the Emergency Vet Hospital for additional unnecessary and costly diagnostics. And she was absolutely CORRECT! Her years of expertise, amazing and calm personality combined with her genuine investment in our beloved pup, gave us all the confidence we needed. As she suspected, the emergency truly was averted! We survived the weekend with no further incidents. AND she even made a follow up call on Monday to make sure all was well. It's the little details! We LOVE this practice and cannot praise all of them enough! However, Dr. Forbes is my new FAVORITE (among an entire TEAM of the BEST animal lovers in all of Potomac!) Need a vet? CALL THEM! They have the friendliest staff, amazing boarding and grooming services and always treat you like family. read more

When Dr. Amoroso ran this Vet, it was first class and had a nice homey neighborhood feeling. It has now been sold to a corporate private equity company and all they care about is $$$$. Its just terrible that they see Potomac has a place because of the demographic, that they can just soak customers for everything they can think of. All they do is nickel and dime you and I'm now looking for a new Vet in the area. read more

I am really bummed to be writing this review as I've been a client of Falls Road for the last 11 years (since my dog was a puppy) and I really like the staff (see review from 2014), but it appears that the practice was recently sold and our usual vet (Dr. Lowenthal) has just left the practice and with how I was treated by the new practice manager today, I am not confident this is the same Falls Road. I've stuck with this practice for so long because when we've faced challenges with our dog in the past, they've consistently demonstrated concern and taken great care to make sure that we get the help we need. They call, they follow up, and make sure our dog is doing well. I loved that about them. But what I experienced today was completely the opposite and quite frankly, pretty careless. My 11-year old dog has been on the same, weight- appropriate dose of levothyroxine to treat his hypothyroidism for the past 2+ years. He's had his blood checked every 6 months since then to make sure the medication is working as desired and it has. I recently fell behind in getting our dog's bloodwork done and made the soonest appointment I could get, which was 3 weeks from the date I called. Unfortunately, my dog had to go to the emergency vet for a cut the day before our visit and the following day we botched the timing of his dose, which prevented us from taking our dog in for his bloodwork. I called. I apologized. We never do this. No big deal they said. I offered to come in for the next soonest appointment, they said no - wait 2 weeks because some of his liver values were mildly elevated when he went in for his emergency visit and we should recheck those. Might as well do it all at once. GREAT, this was perfect since we were planning to head out of town for a week! Well, not really. I called today to ask for a short term refill (5-7 days) of his medication because we are in another state and ran out of his medication. Since we aren't due to come in for his appointment yet, I thought this would be no big deal. He's been taking these meds for 2+ years without incidence and he has been doing great on them. I don't need 50 pills. Just enough to get me to our appointment. Well, I was told pretty abruptly by the practice manager that, no, they will not refill the prescription because it could harm my dog and they don't want their doctors loosing their license. Say what? I asked how continuing him briefly on his regular dose would be harming him? She said if they give the wrong dosage they could harm him. By now I'm wondering how that could be considering, I'm (a.) not asking for a dosage change (b.) I haven't indicated that my dog is showing signs that he might need a dosage change, and most importantly (c.) they advised me to continue giving him the medication we had and to wait two weeks. There was no concern when we last spoke that he might be on the wrong dose. I asked her if she had consulted the doctor on her response. She didn't address that question. She just said that her job is to protect her her doctors. When did you start assuming that your clients want to harm/sue/malign you? I'm just trying to keep my 11 year old dog healthy, which should be your goal as well. So I asked, well what about protecting my dog? Wouldn't having my dog stop his medication cold-Turkey cause more harm than giving us a short-term refill to hold us over until our appointment? She wouldn't answer that question either. She only responded that she would rather have us come in. I said, sure, when we are back in town next week. She said, okay well I still can't help you until then. I said, this is disappointing, can I have his records then so we can go elsewhere. She said, yep, no problem. I paused to see if there was any other response because wow. But no response. Total silence. Well, I guess that's that. To whoever I spoke to today, you aren't protecting your doctors. You are hurting them by loosing loyal clients. read more

I love taking my dog to Falls Road Vet- I feel like the doctors are really thorough in their care of my Yorkie poo and are always looking out for his health. The way they are handling COVID has also been great- they make it super easy and safe by escorting your pet from your car to inside, and the doctor calls you to go over the appointment with you. You can pay over the phone, too. I have only had good experiences here. read more

This is the only vet i would ever take my beautiful girls (Zoe and Bianca -- Boston Terrier's) The availibility for bringing in your animal is great. the receptionisits are always friendly and welcoming. I am shocked this place hasnt been reviewed as of yet due to their reputation. every single vet i've dealt with has been top notch and extremely caring with my animals. i have nothing bad to say whatsoever. it can get a little pricey depending on what you're going for, but thats how it is around here. if you want to take your pets to a great place where you dont have to worry, take them here...hands down the best vet within 100 miles. side note: if you have a difficult cat...ask for Dr. Amoroso...he does magic that calms them all down. awesome!!! read more

The vets themselves are amazing. Kind people and incredibly knowledgeable. Can't rave enough about them. The receptionists however, were very rude and short with us on multiple occasions. They were goofing around and being very unprofessional while we were in the waiting room and trying to interpret what the vet had told us. We've been taking our dogs to Falls Road Veterinary Hospital for over 20 years. They've been taken care of by Drs. Amoroso, Ainsworth, Navarra and others whose names I don't remember. They've always received amazing, loving care, whether it was a routine visit or an emergency surgery (Golden retriever swallowing a rubber ball!). I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Falls Road. After keeping our dog healthy for nearly 13 years, it was finally time to put her down. Every single employee was so kind, so gentle with her (and us) during the process it made it 100x easier than it would have been with anyone else. I have tried to like this place. I have a dog that needs to be sedated to get groomed. They assured me that it could be done. The first time I took my dog, he was groomed and we were happy. The second time- they called me and said they could only cut my dogs body but not his head- but I still had to pay full price! Then we decided one last chance- we made an appointment for my dog- they called and changed it. The morning of my dogs appointment- I have already given him the sedative drug- they call me and cancel the appointment and they don't have another appointment for a month!!!!! Are you kidding me?! Please please please don't waste your time or your money at this place! They are very unprofessional and disjointed. read more

Very nice facility and waiting spacious room. Excellent caring vets who also will call you back and answer questions within a couple hours. Do not seem rushed or overbooked Take appropropriate time with my pet. Do not push expensive tests but offer range of options including wait and see. (My dog has eaten foreign objects so wait and see sometimes is best.) Reasonable prices--not cheap but not out of line either. Montgomery county prices, not Potomac/Bethesda prices. . Good hours. Evenings and Weekends. Grooming facilities on site where I take my "Princess" . The staff know her and she actually likes going to the facility. I trust them. Some boarding for sick or small dogs but probably not suitable for extended stays for larger dogs. Affiliation with an outstanding veterinary specialist hospital (Greenbriar) for really complicated cases requiring referral; Greenbriar also serves as a luxury boarding facility and there is transportation between it and the Potomac facility read more

I receive more consideration and better personal interaction from my car mechanic. Fortunately my pets are generally healthy so I did not realize just how uncaring and poorly run this business is until I went elsewhere. They simply do not care-about the pets or their owners. Two stars because I believe that the technical clinical services were adequate, though overpriced. Wished I left years ago. There are far better providers in the area and the office itself needs a serious upgrade. Also I do not understand the comment about short wait time-I always waited at least half an hour. read more

After trying several vets in the D.C. area, I finally found Falls Road through a friend. This is the only vet that can handle my high-strung spaniel. They understand that animals need time and patience to win their confidence. I'm so grateful that a place like this exists. generally good service, but occasionally arrogant personnel the latter warning is based on a recent call to the animal hospital after my pug teethed a bug control container of "Combat" and we were very concerned. Asked to speak to the vet about antidotes. The receptionist stated that the vet (who was near the phone) would not talk to me, and that the doctor instructed that I should call Poison Control, at 800 213 6680, to pay $40 for an analysis of the active ingredient and follow their advice. Instead, I found the active ingredient listed on the back (fipornil) and found some antidote information on line. Called back and talked to a very nice tech at Falls Road, who had some common sense advice. . So - great techs, but at least one of the doctors has very poor judgment and radiates indifference to the animal and customer. Incident occurred just a few weeks after we spent $900 there for annual check-ups for our two dogs. read more

The quality of at least one doctor (Dr. Ainsworth) is quite poor. If a vet can't diagnose UTI for an old cat after I've even suggested its possibility, considering it being so basic, that's bad news. But what's worse is that they try everything to charge more $$. Including sending you home and having you come back another day for blood test so they can charge you a "Recheck Exam Fee" the next day on top of the blood test charges which are higher than other places by the way. That's absurd. They then try to do give your animal an injection vs. a pill so they can charge 3 or 4 times more. It goes on and on. I had put up with their high prices because I'm loyal and like to stick to one place. I took my cats there and every time, I tell myself to not do that again. This time after the misdiagnosis and countless waste of my money and time, not to mention putting my cat through longer unnecessary UTI symptoms, I'm done with this place. Dr. Ainsworth said they need to do numerous other tests to find out what it was. I asked for a second opinion. Dr. Navarra then checked her chart and said it's UTI!!! I was charged again for the 2nd exam (this made it 3 exam charges). I later talked to the office manager and said I would pay for the first exam and the exam by the second doctor but the "recheck exam" by the first doctor who didn't do jack for me only a day later, is unfair. She said she's giving me a refund for that. A month later, I still didn't have it. I called and they gave me back less (the second opinion fee). They didn't care to make anything right for a client who has taken her cats there for 13 years. Their arrogance, over charging, and most importantly quality of doctor/care is unacceptable. read more

I had an incredible experience at Falls Road Vet Clinic this morning. I am currently on vacation in Rangeley Maine (from Massachusetts) with a couple friends. There was an incident between my dog and my friends dog that resulted in a bite wound on my dog's ear. Falls Road Vet Clinic was so welcoming and made sure I was seen ASAP. They were friendly, honest, quick and thorough. They even shared some love from their office kitty Taco while my dog was getting stitches which was a wonderful way to keep my nerves in check. After being a client of Dr Amoroso's for nearly 35 years I now feel the need to speak out and let anyone who is looking for a vet in Potomac to look elsewhere..... he is now charging for items that should never be charged. Like hair removal and disposal, even when they are told NOT to as I am quite capable of doing that myself. And now they are charging for injections when they are not the ones providing the meds, and it's simply to get it done with less hurt to the dog and quicker. What would have taken me 2 injections with the needles we have for our doggie's allergy shots, took 1 and far less time and less paid for our little one with them doing it. They charged 15 $ for something that took 2 mins, and I had asked them to do once before. They charged me 35 $ for shaving off a small section which I asked them NOT to repeatedly and disposing of the hair. So, as of this week, I have found a new vet and all 10 of my dogs (yes, I am a breeder) will be moving our business elsewhere. There are plenty of excellent vets in this area that do NOT overcharge you for simple things. And what they do in the small things, they will do in the big things too. read more
