I've been holding off on giving a full review of Gervais because I wasn't really sure how to put it. My first experience at Gervais was because my boyfriend gifted me a Essential massage/ and spa pedicure for valentines day of 2014. It was our first valentines day together and I was really delighted to be able to have my first massage/ spa experience. Setting up the appointment was easy, I made sure to come in a little extra early (20-25 minutes) and was helped right away and offered tea and chocolate. Good start right? I mean, how do you go wrong with tea and chocolate? By making the person wait an additional 30-40 minutes to be seen. In their defense, it was pretty close to Valentines day so I figured that probably had something to do with it, as I'm an unabashed spa newbie. Unfortunately I don't remember the girls name who did my massage but she was really sweet. She mispronounced my name a couple times but complaining about that seems silly. She was really educated on the essential / massage oils and definitely helped me make up my mind to purchase some of the Bergamot to take home. The only drawback to the massage was that I kept getting excuses along the lines that normally I would have been able to sit in the spa area or shower after the massage and try some Aveda products but it was too busy/ not enough time/ spa regulars were already there. I mean the trip was a gift so I really didn't think anything of it and really it's not like I'm going to argue with the nice lady who helped me relax for an hour. I had my pedicure afterwards, a warm towel wrap on my shoulders was pretty much magical. There was a lot of waiting and once again, really didn't mind. The pedicurist was funny and helpful and did a beautiful job on my toes. She didn't push anything on me like I heard several other spa attendants doing to their clients. This, really bothered me. It's supposed to be a relaxing environment right? Shouldn't that mean you AREN'T trying to push spa packages on people?.. I mean put me on a mailing list to try and convert me to your ways by giving me coupons to come in and drink the "special Kool-Aid" but at the actual appointment??? No thanks. After my toes dried I headed up to the front to look at some of the products and to pick up some essential oils and was on my way. Essential oils especially the Bergamot = AWESOME. Really long lasting and subtle. Fast forward to this past January 2015. I won a free Green science plant peel from liking the Gervais facebook page. Not something I would normally try on my own but I'd had never had one before and was curious. Free is a pretty good price. Setting up the appointment was easy and they had an opening really fast which was a nice surprise. That's where all the niceness ends. Once again, I was early but only by 10 or so minutes this time. Once again, I waited. A lot. I felt "in the way" the entire time I was there. Women who got there after I did were taken back before I was, I had to dodge people talking about hair services they'd received just to get to a seat. The woman in the chair next to me was on her phone the entire time. When I got taken back, the aesthetician was not easy to talk to. She would ask questions about my beauty routine and then interrupt me. I told her multiple times this was the first time I had received a facial or a chemical peel of any kind and she didn't really react. She didn't walk me through any of the steps or let me know when she was going to do something such as SPRAY ME DIRECTLY IN THE FACE WITH WATER. She corrected me after I told her I really enjoyed the Bergamot oil for the facial massage portion and she interrupted me again telling me it was pronounced BURR GA MONT and that she didn't have any for this session. .....K Throughout the entire process the only time she would talk is to tell me that if I had "Purchased a regular package" I would have gotten so much more or that normally they would give me X to go along with it but that's with the "full price package" I told her repeatedly that I had won this through Facebook and I had never had ANY kind of facial treatment and all she would say is "Oh, you should try our full package." When we were finished up she said she would put together some Aveda products for me to help me with some of my skin issues (dry skin etc) So I went up front and waited......and waited after about 40 minutes another technician came up to me between appointments and answered some of my questions about a few products. No one from the front desk said anything. No one approached me. Finally I went up to check out and asked about the facial tech. She had no idea. No apology for having me wait around for that long. As the peel was no cost, I left. No plans on going back. I'm not sure how to get into the magical club of being able to actually be treated to a full appointment but I think I'll pass. read more

Are you an ugly duckling? Is your hair fashionably offensive? Do you find your face to be absolutely revolting? I don't have these problems. However, it takes effort to look phenomenal. The friendly, informative and professional staff at this Aveda concept spa and salon ensure I am at my esthetically pleasing state. Their facial experts (I recommend Bryer, and Sara is wonderful, too) skillfully utilize Aveda's natural beauty line for relaxing facials and their hair stylist (I've had the pleasure of working with Ariel) can artfully transform a dull mane to a soft, shiny flow of silk cascading down from your head. Looking pretty isn't as wonderful as feeling pretty...and here's why I love this particular day spa (I think most, if not all, Aveda spas are like this)....it's all about their sensory rituals. Upon entry after being greeted with a welcoming smile, I am offered Comforting Tea, or mint and lemon infused water (I always shoot for the tea that's so calming and sublime with a hint of mint). Aromatherapy and mini massages are integrated in their facials and hair treatments. And after facials, there is an optional foot soak to further take me into a blissful state of grace. And finally, there is chocolate...what sane woman would ever deny titillating and subtly sweet dark chocolate?! It's a total holistic experience...can be pricey, of course. But I think of it as an investment in my beautification. read more

This is a pretty spa and it has a large selection of Aveda products. I had a sweet and friendly nail technician. However, a manicure pedicure is $100, not including tip. The manicure I got lasted a day. I have had many manicures and I don't think I have ever had one come off my nails so fast. In three days, every nail had lost almost half its polish. The polish barely went to the edge of my nail, not slightly over the edge like in a good manicure. And clearly, my nails weren't properly prepped. For a $120 experience, that is ridiculous and sort of insane. I complained and never heard back. I say, go get a $35 mani pedi and buy yourself a nice dinner instead. read more

I was a first time customer yesterday for a massage. I'll preface by saying I've been to many spas in major metropolitan areas, so maybe holding Gervais to the same standard isn't fair. The overall experience was OK, not great (especially for the price). Pros: Friendly staff, convenient location with ample parking, nicely appointed massage rooms with very comfortable tables. Cons: front waiting area surrounded with several hairstyling rooms where blow dryers and loud conversations made for a not-so-relaxing pre-massage experience. Dressing rooms, showers and relaxation sitting area is co-ed, which was just weird. To use a blow dryer, you needed to walk out to the single bathroom in the hallway of the massage area. My therapist was friendly, but so-so, not the best massage. The shower room that was "prepared" for me didn't have any body soap in it (not cool since I was covered with body oil), and the drain was clogged with hair (Eww). I feel for the quality it was expensive. I will probably seek out one of the peaceful small massage studios in town. read more

I am in love with this salon, after just two appointments. Gervais is a very welcoming and warm atmosphere - especially decorated for Christmas! At my first appointment, I received a welcome packet of sorts with information for new clients. Every time I go in I am treated with tea & chocolate (major points). I've seen Hannah for both appointments, and she's fabulous. I came in to have my hair dyed after recently having it done in California. I wasn't happy with the results from my first dye job, so Hannah had the task of brightening my hair, putting more blonde in, and creating more of an ombre effect. I can now say that after two appointments with Hannah, I am extremely satisfied with my hair. I love the fun, long layers she incorporated into my hair - it looks great, especially in a pony tail! I'm really happy with the color - and she received really outstanding feedback from everyone at the salon when they saw my hair after my last appointment. I'll never again have my hair dyed anywhere but an Aveda salon. The products, mostly derived from plant/organic ingredients, are so gentle on hair. Even after having it dyed twice within just a couple of months, my hair still feels healthy and strong. I just purchased two Aveda products at Gervais - the blue malva conditioner & the smooth infusion. During my second appointment, Hannah even gave me a hand treatment while we were waiting for the dye to set into my hair! This is definitely not the cheapest place to go. But if you want to be treated with excellent/healthy products, receive services from very well-trained staff, and step into a very welcoming environment, you must try Gervais! read more

Okay, now that I'm leaving town and I've made my very last appointment, I'm ready to spill my big secret. Skylar at Gervais is an eyebrow MAGICIAN. I swear, this woman must be working some kind of cosmetic sorcery. No one can tame these Eastern European brows like she can. Also, she's probably one of the nicest people in Eugene. Somehow unfailingly bubbly and personable without being irritatingly saccharine. I always leave in a good mood. The rest of salon is certainly good. It's pretty typical Aveda salon (tea, head massage, etc.), and everyone seems to have a lot of training, but I've found better haircuts at other salons in town for a lot less money. Kelsey rocks!!! Get a haircut and color from her and she will do a bang-up job. The bikini waxes just seemed so overpriced though. However, I love Briar? Or Brynn? Whoever it was that did mine was great. Didn't even hurt to have my entire groin area voided of hair. I'd recommend her in a heartbeat as well.... if you want to pay a pretty penny for them to do it. I recognize that most waxing of that nature is a little high on price, but jeez, it just seems a little outlandish to pay that much for what amounts to 20 minutes of hair pulling! On the bright side though... it makes me proud to be an american. This is the only country I can go and pay sixty some odd dollars to willfully have people rip out my body hair. read more

I just had a great experience at the new location in the Fifth Street Market. I called in this morning to see if there was a massage appointment available and the got me in within a couple hours. From the minute I walked in the door the staff was extremely friendly, offering me a beverage and giving me a comfortable place to sit and fill out my first timer paperwork. Heather gave me the massage and she was awesome! We went over a few things before she started. She asked me what I wanted to focus on and if there were any issues I needed addressed. Not only did she pay attention to what I asked for, she was very intuitive and found spots that needed work that I hadn't even realized were trouble areas. After the massage there's a choice of a hot shower or foot soaking, I chose the foot soaking. I sat in a comfy chair infront of a fireplace reading a magazine drinking lemon and cucumber infused water while eating a piece of chocolate she gave me! Wow, this was such a good experience I will definitely be back asking for Heather next time I'm in town! read more

I am now home after a wonderful, relaxing 4 hours at the spa. This is my first time at their new location at the 5th Street Market. It's nice, welcoming. More seating than the last shop. I booked services (essential facial and massage) for one week ago, however sadly had to reschedule for today. (My fault!) when I booked for last weekend, I was told that they could only fit me in for a facial THEN a massage. The young lady on the phone said it was not ideal, but I accepted it. Fast forward a week to when I called to reschedule. I specifically asked the young lady to look for times where I could have my massage first THEN a facial. That was the understanding when I rescheduled. Fast forward to today. I checked in 10 minutes early. Filled out the required paperwork for a massage. I was greeted by the esthitician, Keisha. (Very lovely woman!) She kindly asked if I was waiting long (Nope!) then brought me back to change, and meet in the lounge for a foot soak and tea! I didn't know until around this time that she was going to perform the facial. Huh?! I thought I was going to get a massage first. She mentioned something about there being a "note in the system." Oh well. Keisha was informative and made me feel super comfortable. She was incredibly patient afte as I asked a TON of questions. She was kind enough to leave two products at the counter that she recommended for my use AND provides instructions on how to use them. I obliged and bought them. Not to mention, I rebooked and will see her again in 4 weeks! My massage was with Sara(h). She is brilliant! Her tone of voice was relaxing. Her hands were magic! I'll rebook with her again next time! Now on to check out. Gervais seriously needs to STOP HIRING YOUNG COLLEGE GIRLS at the front counter!! Especially when they barely have any customer service skills. I walked up to check out to find two girls embracing for quite some time - and it looked like one of them was crying?! The other girl was on her phone (texting or something). I was greeted with a surprised look and an "oh!" Yes, I'm standing here. No question about how my services were. They proceeded to check me out. I paid for my services separately than the product and BAM! Their computer went down. Instead of moving me over to the other computer, they attempted to bring it back online all the while accepting to check out another client at the other computer. (Annoying) My check out process took far longer than it should have! (I was not offered a bag for my products to which I carried out of the salon and dropped all over the parking lot!) That is my only "complaint" - train your front desk girls! For me, my experience leaving the spa is what decides if I'll be back. I left the back of the spa relaxed to leaving the salon a little annoyed. read more

Today was my first time and I wish I'd been coming here for years. My esthetician Michele was a pleasure to be hurt by. She made the waxing experience as enjoyable as possible. She was friendly and informative. She continually checked in on me, making sure the wax wasn't to hot and so forth. She gave me some skin tips and a free brow tint. All in all it was a spa experience for a simple lip/brow wax. I loved it! All this in under 30 minutes. It was $34 (plus a 20% tip) for the duo, not the most affordable but well worth it. I've been going to Kelsey for cut/color services for almost six years. That alone should indicate how talented and consistent she is. But there's more to the story: Recently, I let someone else have her way with my hair, and I ended up with an unflattering dye job that I was unhappy with, to say the least. I took my bad dye job to Kelsey and she did much more than just "fix the problem" - she created absolutely beautiful ombré highlights that make my hair look amazing. I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. I had never been to an Aveda Salon before I moved here, thinking it may be overpriced or stuffy. Neither is the case. It's just excellent service. I have been to many, many salons, and had many MANY haircuts, and am picky, I'll admit. I have NEVER had a bad experience here, or a bad cut. Marti always knows just how to do my hair to suit whatever picky notion or mood swing I come in with. The prices are VERY reasonable, especially seeing as I usually am really anal with what I want. I have paid more for inferior cuts. $45 bucks to make me feel like a million? Done. I'm always offered tea or water while I wait, beautiful setting, calming space, and everyone in there seems to WANT to be there. No fussing, no complaining, and even chatter between stylists is fun and upbeat. I have been going there about a year now (the longest I've gone anywhere), love it, and am a committed customer. read more

All I can say is, WOW! I've never been to a salon/spa of such high caliber before. It had been a rough week, so I decided to do something nice for myself. I called this afternoon and was able to schedule an appt for just a few hours later. When I walked in I smelled essential oils and felt like I was transported to another corner of the world. The entire experience was incredibly pleasant. I was greeted with tea while I sat down on one of the leather chairs to fill out a short new customer info card. The tea came with a peppermint chocolate too, which really made my day. After I sat down in the chair, my stylist Chris let me pick out an essential oil to have massaged into my hair, then we went back to the hair-washing room which was nothing short of a spa experience. Soft music was playing and the lighting in the room was lower, producing a relaxing ambiance. All in all, to have my hair washed, cut, and blown-out took an hour or less. The hair cut was only $45, and it felt completely right to round it out with a $15 tip. Well worth the money. If you are a first time customer you are also presented with a neat little envelope which has a coupon for a discounted massage or another discounted service. Needless to say, i'm hoping my hair grows out super fast so I can go back and have it cut and highlighted. I'm also planning on taking a day to get the complete massage experience as well. I've been getting my haircut at Gervais since I was in the 6th grade. The staff are friendly and prompt, and the location is absolutely perfect (well, minus the 5th St. Market parking debacle). Anna Sanchez has been cutting my hair since I started coming to Gervais, and I've never had a haircut I wasn't 100% satisfied with. I have curly hair, which many stylists don't know how to cut well-Anna has it down. I trust her with any hair decision, and find it so cool that I can say "just do what you think is best" and have no doubt she will make me happy! I don't get my hair colored, so I can't speak to that, but for haircuts, or any other salon service (waxing, etc) I would recommend to anyone in Eugene! read more

Gervais as a whole is fine - as others have said, it's an Aveda salon, and the spa side is nice. They are very expensive, even for being one of the nicer spas in a limited market. My experience with pedicures has been hit or miss. Feels great, but I wind up with an ingrown toenail about half the time (I've come here 7-8 times through the years, between the two locations). For having an eyebrow wax, however, Skylar is the bomb, and worth every penny. She does a fabulous job and she has a wonderful personality to boot... it doesn't get any better than that. read more

I wish Yelp would let me write two separate reviews for this place... if I was only reviewing the spa pedicure I got with Nadia, she would get 5 stars. She was attentive, thorough and professional, asked about what I wanted and did a fantastic job. The spa setting itself was great too... seriously good tea, all the complimentary chocolate you could ask for, soothing music and lighting, very relaxing atmosphere and good skin care products. But all of this was overshadowed by the fact that Deedee gave me the absolute worst manicure I've ever seen. On the positive side, she was sweet and the products/process seemed nice. But the point was to walk out feeling all pampered with decent looking nails and cuticles (I opted for a buff finish with no polish), and I'm currently sitting at home trimming my flapping cuticles, filing uneven edges and buffing the scratches out of my nail surfaces. It's so bad it would almost be funny if it hadn't been such a waste of time and money. I honestly can't do it justice with words, so just see the attached photos. I also specifically opted for Gervais because of the shoulder massage included with the spa manicure, which turned out to be a few minutes of her basically petting me. Overall very disappointing, especially since it detracted from what would otherwise have been a really nice and relaxing experience if I'd just done the pedicure. But I ended up spending half the pedicure hunting online for another spa that could fix my nails the same day (never found one, hence the current situation). read more

I have been to the spa twice as a gift from my fiance. Both times were absolutely amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. The rooms are clean. The first time I went I got the package deal with a massage, facial, and mani/pedi. In between my massage and facial I got to take a steam in the sauna and after my facial I was able to take an amazing shower in a room covered with river rock. It was heavenly. The second time I just got a massage after which I was still able to take a shower in that amazing room. If you have the money to treat yourself on the spa package I highly highly recommend! I had my first massage here and it was literally like dying and going to heaven! I thought 90 minutes would be too long and that I would likely end up laughing my way through the first 30 minutes (I'm like tickle me Elmo when it comes to massage). This place provided the most relaxing and ethereal experience for a rookie. Let me just say wow!! Their spa is amazing! The staff is great. But Mary and Rachel are two of the absolute best I've ever seen. Mary gave me the most amazing massage I've ever had! In only 45 minutes because she squeezed me in. But my goodness she is very good at what she does. Don't let her petite self fool you. She has so much strength and can get the deepest of knots! I felt taller and way more open after she went in on my back. Finish with a facial by Rachel and these two gals are enough to change your entire day! Most relaxing and attentive service and they're both the cutest and sweetest little things! Can't go wrong here. Their spa is definitely getting too tight because they are so busy and have so much going on they need to expand and go BIG! Loved this place! Must do every time you are in Eugene. read more

Was informed yesterday that men's haircuts will now be $50, not including a tip--up from $40, which was pretty high already. I no longer live in Eugene, but when I did there was no doubt I got regular facials and occasional massages from this wonderful spa. I am now about 4 hrs round trip away from this spa, and in my search to find a new spa, I am almost tempted to drive to Gervais for my facials. Nothing compares to your experience here. First and foremost, Sarah the esthetician. I cherished every minute of my facials with Sarah. Sarah has a very relaxing demeanor to her! She doesn't over talk, she has a very relaxing tone, and very consistent, gentle and thorough work in her facials with her clients. She also knows what she is talking about when it comes to healthy skin. I always went in with a different situation when it came to my skin and she knew exactly what to do. She also knew exactly what to recommend to me for my skin care routine at home and because of that I am hooked on Aveda Products, but who wouldn't be? I have my whole family using that line now. Sarah is the best, I surely hope she still works there because you need a facial from her to change your life. As for the spa in general, 5 stars as well! Very relaxing experience from the minute you step into the back area. The tea is OMG good. and the back room is perfect relaxing lighting, volume, scent and everything. It's crazy to me how a facial feels like an entire spa day when you attend this salon. AKA it's worth your money! And my favorite part, is after your facial you get to select from using the Sauna or the shower. Highly recommend using the shower! Using all the Aveda products is one perk, but the black rock shower with a cup of tea is the final step to the most relaxing few hours ever! I have also received a few massages from Gervais and the staff has always been very accommodating to your specific needs at that time. I love how ALL the staff at Gervais really take the time to hear from you, hear what your body or skin needs or is feeling and use their knowledge to provide you with the best care. If you're reading this, please go enjoy a spa day at Gervais for me, since I can't anymore. Should I just move back to Eugene simply for Gervais? I would consider it ;) I am reading a lot of negative reviews, mostly for the hair stylist part of the spa. I have received one hair treatment from this spa and I probably wouldn't go back, I didn't enjoy the service but I truly hope for your benefit that that won't stop you from receiving other spa services from this wonderful spa! read more

Kesha made my self care day worth every penny. I got the rejuvenate facial and that 30 extra minutes was totally worth it. I've gone to other spas in the area and this place has to be my favorite. I have never been more disappointed by an experience at a salon. I have gone to Gervais twice before this and Rachel did an amazing job with my hair. This time unfortunately she wasn't available and I had to go to Katie. My hair did not turn out how I wanted it at all. After not being able to get my hair to the color I wanted she decided to do my roots an almost orange color. And I am blonde. I told her absolutely no brassy or warm colors. I was clearly very dissatisfied with how my hair turned out and she was rushing the whole time. She blow dried half of my hair and then said she had another customer waiting and sent me away with half my hair soaking wet. If it were any other salon I would understand. But to go here you expect the best. To pay as much as you do here the service and the experience need to be much better. I am so disappointed and will no longer be recommending people here or ever coming back. read more

They do a good job and their Aveda products smell great. BUT...even if you want a simple & fast trim or color correction (i.e. 20 minute appointment), they'll purposely spend more time than needed on you or add on treatments that you DO NOT ask for (and claim its complimentary), then charge you an arm and a leg as if you got a full cut or color. Like I said, the outcome is good, but you can get good service many places with employees who aren't there to take advantage of you. But if you're there for a full appointment and prepared to see your money go to something worthwhile: see Ariel at the main Gervais location at 5th street market. She does a fantastic job doing partial and full weaves, especially for blonde hair. read more

Was with my daughter who had an appointment with Gervais (which btw we have driven to for Christmas shopping together/people's birthdays/etc, she supported during the pandemic, etc). She made a same day appointment for a brow wax and hair color the following week. She missed a 15 to max 30min brow wax appointment as she got stuck at work. There were MANY MANY brow wax slots available (basically all slots). The appointment was at 4 and she called them at 4:30, apologized and asked if she could move it anytime now until later today (as again there were many many slots...). The receptionist said sure you can do that but we will charge you twice. $60 for a brow wax? She told her never mind if you're going to charge me $30 for nothing and the receptionist then told her she wasted their time. These appointments take 15 minutes to 30 minutes... you have MANY slots available... and you're already there? My daughter called back she got the same receptionist and she asked they cancel her future hair appointment too. The receptionist was very snarky and continued on about how they get paid. My daughter then reminded them how she's been canceled on by Gervais same day and she didn't charge Gervais for when they wasted her time. The receptionist then said well you don't lose money from it. She then told them she cancelled work to attend (also this was for a family members event).... While not upset when they cancelled cause life happens, but I believe in the dictionary if you look up hypocrite this might be an example. The receptionist said you will not be able to come back here until you pay this... ICK! Very rude. Maybe if they were booked WAY in advance, didn't have a lot of slots, this was a long appointment ok I get it. But same day with multiple slots for 15 freakin minutes? Charge her your measly 30$ and she will gladly never come back! My advice: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

I went to get a hair cut and the hairstylist was awesome but the general feeling of the place as other stylists went by was of you don't belong here. So as much as I like being spoiled I don't like being made to feel unwelcome. read more

I just cut off my two foot long hair after having the long straight style for over ten years. I was very nervous when I made the appointment and told the woman as much so they gave me to Chris. The appointment was for an hour and 15 minutes and for the first 30 minutes we just talked. He wanted to know why I wanted to cut my hair, what I thought about it, he looked at my hair and my face and told me what he thought would work and wouldn't. It was wonderful. By the time we started cutting I felt better about it then I thought possible, my nerves were gone. He went the extra mile to make sure I was ready to do it, and that I liked all the details of the cut. They even stayed open an extra half an hour while he finished up the touches so the sides framed my face like I told him I wanted. They were professional, comfortable, made me feel welcome, and were more then worth the cost. I am a cheapskate usually but it was worth every penny and I am so very glad I didn't go somewhere else. read more
