Not sure what the crazy sounding review is about, although I have never dealt with Eric Gess. I have dealt with Joe Scanlon, however, on three real estate deals and two tax appeals and he has been nothing but professional, knowledgeable, responsive and easy to work with. In addition, his paralegals are very good to work with and the office staff is very responsive. He knows the ins and outs of Hoboken real estate and is easy to deal with via phone and email. I saw this one star review and I had to respond. Joe Scanlon is the absolute best. He helped us through a very tricky contract process on a new build which we ultimately had to pull out of due to negligence on the builder's part. We had our deposit back almost immediately. After that, he worked with us through building a new single family home. He was friendly, professional, and extremely efficient. His staff was fantastic. Jeremy Wallace completed a real estate closing for us, but we were less than impressed with him. He did not have our best interests at heart, but focused on being paid for the work with minimum effort and time on his part. Any initiative or idea to counter the other party's excessive demands were devised by us ourselves, he merely proposed them to the other side. He communicated minimally, which meant we had to keep contacting him to find out what was going on. He did the job, but we would not recommend him. read more

Other reviews are fake. I personally had to deal with Eric Gess. I retained his service for my own condo purchase. He was refereed by my realtor -- which is a mistake on my part. This whole closing experience was a very unfortunate one. Eric Guess is a very bad attorney. He is a very unprofessional lawyer and very unresponsive. All he cares is the money you have to pay him. After that, good luck getting hold with him. He would stay silent until the minute you have to close. You would never get any sort of update from him, nor his office. He never return any emails or phone calls. On a rare occasion you are lucky to reach him, he would promise something that he would deliver on. Use his service at your own PERIL!!! read more

Someone recommended Joe Scanlon to me for a real estate transaction, so I called the office and was routed to Rich Gess. I was told Scanlon was away and that Rich Gess would be handling my sale. This is my fourth real estate sale and he's not terrible, but he's the worst of the attorneys I've used. I had maybe two interactions with Rich himself. One of those was when I finally had to call after no one informed me whether we were out of attorney review. After that I was handed over to the legal assistant, who wasn't particularly courteous. She would send me forms "for your approval," but I didn't have anyone calling me to ask if I had questions or anything. When I received the HUD form, the numbers on it were confusing. It looked like there was an error and while the assistant cleared it up via e-mail after I asked, no one called me to go over the form. Very strange. Their fee is no bargain either, considering it seems like the assistant does most of the work. I have heard good things about Joe Scanlon, though. read more

I post this two years ago, but couldn't find online. Repost it. Highly recommended Mr. Eric Gess! He is very professional and well known in NJ/NYC for real estate transaction. I got referral from my friend who bought two houses in Jersey City and he is very satisfy with Mr. Gess. When we purchase our house, at the home inspection day, the inspector Mr. John Losquadro (he is also a great person that Eric referral to us) found out that house has structural problems. John said he didn't want us to waste our inspection fee, he then talk to our lawyer Eric about structural problem. Eric discussed with seller's attorney on phone about this issue and helped us canceled that case without headache. Thank GOD we didn't hire the other lawyer! He is the best according my friend with two purchases great experiences with him. Mr.Gess is very professional and knowledgeable about real estate transaction. Now many of my friend & had great experiences with him during the transaction. He is always readily available to answer any question we may have (from our emails), even when he went NYC for closing. read more
