Needless to say, our house was overwhelming: no energy or time to address anything beyond doing the bare minimum to keep our heads above squalor, way too much stuff, etc. Beyond having small children who destroy everything they touch, we are a neurodivergent household (ADHD and Autism), which is an added layer on top of just not knowing how to de-shittify the house. She came recommended to me by another neurodivergent parent of little kids, and in our initial interviews (done over Zoom and in-person), she assured me that she could get our 3 Bed/3Bath 1,700sq condo into working order in four days. I decided to take off time from my job to work with her, because I wanted to see what she did so that I could keep it up after she was done. I so appreciated working with Ashley! She came in with a plan in her head, gave me stuff to do, got to work herself, and checked in on me every 15-20 mins like clockwork throughout the day. This was not the kind of job where we were decanting things into matching plastic containers or rolling towels in hotel folds: we were performing a major decluttering in order to free up space, and then assigning a home to all of our crap in a "good enough!" kind of way. As we strategized, we were thinking "can a 3yo do this? Can this room get cleaned up in 5 minutes?" so this was not a precious operation in the least. From seeing pictures of Ashley's other jobs, I knew she was *capable* of decanting things into matching containers, but when I told her that I was not into decanting she understood exactly what I meant and then made it happen in the cleaning process. As I write this review, it's been a month out from The Big Purge and amazingly, we've been able to keep our house clean, and it's *easier* to keep it clean. The kids are happier because they can keep their rooms neat on their own and they take pride in caring for their belongings, and now that my husband and I aren't in survival mode we are much more relaxed as well. I had a suspicion that life would be more harmonious when our crap was organized and we had far less of it, but it's been a daily gift to actually see the change in practice. But, I caught Amelia at a point in her life where she was not equipped to take on my project. She often made mini rants about needing a new team and a new way to organize her work. I have empathy for that as a self-employed person too, but only to an extent. I was very open and vulnerable with Amelia about my life state. I'd just lost my mom and was approaching a big birthday & I explained to her how much it would mean to have this done before retuning from a birthday trip. For context, we worked together over several months, so it wasn't as if I sprung this deadline on her. Everything was going smoothly for the most part, aside from her being late most days. I went on my 3 week long birthday trip, before I left we had discussed her visiting the apartment several times to mostly finish the job, and leave me with some homework on items I would have to sort myself. My housesitter eventually communicated to me that she hadn't reached out to schedule anything yet even though there were only 4 or 5 days left on the trip. See screenshots. Long story short, she ended up lying, blaming him for not having an open schedule, which is essentially irrelevant because I was FULLY clear that she was allowed to work on the apartment without him there, and my concierge was even OK with letting her in if he wasn't there to do it, as she'd already done that several times. She only recached out to him after I confronted her about progress, with just four days left on my trip. Again, screenshots attached. So, I ended up having to take time out of my trip to leave her very thorough but understanding voice messages. I expressed my disappointment especially since this was already vulnerable for me having to going through m many of my mom's objects. I am writing this six months later and to this day, she has never responded to me. She simply sent me the invoice which is frankly just a brutal way to end an emotional process. I have sent her multiple text messages, called her plenty of times so essentially she left the project without ever doing a walk-through, without an explanation, an apology, no receipts to make returns of certain items that she bought without my approval that simply don't work for me. As if I'm not already dealing with mourning, I have to deal with these inconvenient items every day, and think about this frankly traumatic experience. Post-trip I am happy to honestly say that most of the work she did was impressive, I've never argued that. However if you're someone who has emotions tied up in the organizational process, I would not recommend working with her because even with her undeniable skills, this has caused more damage than I could ever expect working with an organizer.
