I am glad I took the trip, however. I came here with a friend to have a special frame made for her friend, whose mother passed away recently. This special gift has to be done with care and some artistic sense. It was a correct choice to come here, and not to generic franchise ones you find in a mall, staffed by underpaid and overworked teens. Not that I have anything against hardworking teens, for a special gift with lots of special memories must be handled by experienced people. When you walk in here, you are awestruck by the spaciousness and the open feel of an old building in a town center. Walls are covered by gorgeous examples of their framing work. Right next to the shop is an art gallery to showcase their work, along with the arts of local artists. I love the concept of combining the art gallery and the framing shop. A great synergy.

The space is rather large with lots of room for artists to display on the walls and folks to enjoy the art. See photos. Unfortunately, a lot of the other businesses in the complex such as White Dog Distillery and Crooked Current were closed on a Tuesday evening but we stopped for a beer at Foolproof which is just down the street a bit. Nice space for local artists and we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the pieces. Most pieces were for sale so for someone looking to build an art collection for reasonable prices, this would be a great place to start. Some pieces we saw were as low as $35 with pricier ones in the 1K-5K range. Note they also have classes in drawing and painting.

They also have paint nights and artists who do commissions. I felt so comfortable with her that I showed her my work as well. You can tell the owner is doing what she loves by her interactions with me, I imagine she is the same with everyone who walks in the door. For the past year I was sleeping on an IKEA Tarva bedframe that would quite literally collapse beneath me some nights, so I was ready to pay a higher price for a higher quality product. After reading Yelp reviews for Knock on Wood, I looked on their website to peruse their selection of bed frames, and was a little nervous that they did not publish their prices online. I requested a quote online and within one business day got a quite for a couple of alder bedframes, both above my price range ($1,000+ with delivery and assembly). However, I found it really helpful to go to the show room and see their selection in-person. I explained my price dilemma over the to the man at the register and he was able to point me in the direction of a pine bed frame with a much more affordable price tag, plus a bonus of the storage drawers underneath. He explained that a queen-sized frame would come in two pieces and that they could deliver and assemble it (I live on the second story of a house). I picked a finish I liked and paid about half of the total price for a down payment, as he advised me that it would take 4-6 weeks for the bed frame to get delivered to them and for them to finish it. After four weeks went by, I called to follow-up and he let me know it was ready for delivery that Saturday! They actually ran a little ahead of schedule and brought it that Friday evening. Assembly was super easy and they instructed me how to disassemble the two-piece bed frame when I move ("only remove the black screws"). I've been using the bed frame for about a month now and I am so happy to say that I have no fears that it will collapse on me in the night like my IKEA bed frame did! :) And the storage is fantastic! I will definitely go back to Knock on Wood if I need a dining set, TV stand, etc. in the future.

Very disappointed recently - paid for a custom mounting of a canvas print - I gave careful instructions on my request - when i went to pick it up, I found that the image on the print was bent around the edges of the underlying frame. The painted image just ends in space - When I mentioned this, the young lady was dismissive - " these things get stretched when they get mounted" - Understood. So they actually mounted it on a framework that was too small. Too bad for me. I don't think it is reparable. I dont mind if mistakes are made. Just be respectful.

I was expecting the usual disasters like soaked and puckered paper, washed out colors, and paintings of water and snow. Why are so many watercolor paintings of water, sand, and snow. WTF? Laziness? But surprise. There are nice things here. Prices vary, but with the frame included, you can enjoy or take home a really nice piece of art.
