My first thought... is it a wirthwhile drive from Barrington, RI? Normally, I would not make this trip because of the distance, and my own ignorance about framing shop in general. I am glad I took the trip, however. I came here with a friend to have a special frame made for her friend, whose mother passed away recently. This special gift has to be done with care and some artistic sense. It was a correct choice to come here, and not to generic franchise ones you find in a mall, staffed by underpaid and overworked teens. Not that I have anything against hardworking teens, for a special gift with lots of special memories must be handled by experienced people. When you walk in here, you are awestruck by the spaciousness and the open feel of an old building in a town center. Walls are covered by gorgeous examples of their framing work. Right next to the shop is an art gallery to showcase their work, along with the arts of local artists. I love the concept of combining the art gallery and the framing shop. I needed to preserve and create framed prints of five slides taken fifty years ago with an inexpensive camera so I didn't expect sterling results. I had done this with the same slides a number of years ago with more success. However they were lost in a Florida flood two years ago so I wanted to replace these memories for an old friend. I used an 8"x11" frame, each picture was smaller than the previous project and one picture is so dark it is difficult to recognize the person. When I picked up the finished project it was wrapped in plastic before I could see the results of their work, I did request it be unwrapped, but why would they make it difficult to see The Preservation Framer finished product before their customer saw it? I have to admit, since Preservation Framer is located in my hometown of North Attleboro I am a little biased due to townie pride; however, the 5 stars are well deserved even if they were based in Kalamazoo. The two head framers, Rob and Matt, are so different that together they make something beautiful. Think of it as peanut butter and fluff- the two apart are at odds but together they make the most amazing sandwich. Every piece I've had done and everything I see hanging in the shop have been simply amazing. You can see the precision and the care put into the cheapest of projects to the most elaborate custom framing. And if being an awesome frame shop wasn't enough, they hold art galleries/openings rather regularly (usually with complimentary wine and cheese, yum yum!!) It's a great way to get immersed into local culture and network with artists and people from all spectrums. read more

My boyfriend's grandmother made a blanket and matching table runner as a house warning gift. I decided to get the table runner framed. I have been to The Preservation Framer twice now and Mark and Rob have produced extraordinary work each time. For printing (canvas and non), I highly recommend that you come here. The quality is exceptional and the canvas I had done here is two years old, and looks as bright and as vibrant as the day I picked it up. While the canvas and prints stand on their own, you haven't seen anything until your items are framed. Simple, elegant, timeless. No garish options here. Best of all, Mark and Rob really value your price point. $55 got me a beautifully framed and matted print (roughly 9" x 11") that I almost couldn't bring myself to give away as the gift I intended it to be. (I most likely will be back to have them do the exact same thing over again for me). It takes two weeks to get a print and another two weeks to frame. Plan accordingly and don't hesitate to let Mark and Rob know if you have time constraints. They will do all they can to complete the work within your time frame. Friendly, enthusiastic, creative, knowledgeable, skilled owners. Definitely make The Preservation Framer your custom framing stop. Plus, they are on Groupon. Parking: Plenty of street parking. I really enjoy going to Preservation Framer and meeting with Rob and Matt. These two guys go out of they're way to be helpful when choosing a frame for your particular interest. I recently brought in some Brazilian embroidery to get framed. It is a very tricky job because the backing is padded and the flowers I stitched were all 3-dimensional. They asked me to come in and look at it after they got it pinned to see if I liked it, and when I pointed out a few wrinkles, they re pinned it and it is PERFECT. No complaining like some other framers I've been to. They just wanted to make me happy. I will DEFINATLY be back! read more
