Very quick to get me onboard to offer my vehicle for rental. The split seemed fair since they handle insurance, billing, marketing, etc. Until a renter had an unreported accident and I had to place a claim and now I cannot get a hold of anybody. I am more than $600 in repairs (just to inspect the full extent of the damage) and three weeks of loss of income and unable to use my vehicle. They reply to my emails every 2-3 days with the most absurd questions. I submitted a comprehensive claim with pictures, estimates, etc. it has been a nightmare. Customer Service and Claims have different emails. CS is very apologetic and reflective, but they don't resolve anything and redirect to claims. Be careful!! I had rated this company before and my review was removed. It makes me wonder how many other bad removes did this company paid to remove that did not line up with their good ratings. Certain owners will scam you and the company does not look out for the renters. If you become a habitual renter, the company instantly over charges you with damages to the car in which one does not make. You take pictures with the app and all of side the pictures in the app are mysteriously missing. Before returning the car, pictures must be taken. PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! I even talked to claims and they're told you did it and that's it and the photos you took with the app are missing, so you can't back up yourself and pay up. I posted and rented 3 cars on getaround platform and have not get paid yes after 45 days and about 18 rental that should average around $800 -900 dollars in total due to the ridiculous rates and their high commission, but the worse is that I have not get paid after calling everyday for about 30 days. They will pay you an offensive $10 for dirty cars and for you to collect cigarettes smell as you can see in the picture attached. This company has a poor way of customer service there's no management or higher person to speck to so basely customer service reps and the car owners renting out the car controls this app. And how people charge when there charge with no factors on how other companies do business it straight and arrow not with this company. I rented a car on May 5th 2023 picked up at 9:30pm and returned May 7th at 10:30 am there had to be a glitch in the system because car owner messages menon the 6th it doesn' show I picked up the car yet i reply well I dropped of the car Sunday morning . It was a pain to lock the.door u had to take pictures inside and out but phone yet dying and wouldn't save None of the pictures I did so I had to start all over anyway the car owner messages if I return it on May 7th which I did but I was at work but by the time i saw the messages he sent one on the 8th he had it. He complained the car smoked like cigarettes i don't smoke plus the car was fully detailed. Apparently where his membership where he took his car to clean I didnt know that I went to the car place on the way to drop off the car and paid 16 to clean it. Mind you i only drove the car 1 full day it. Was 49 a day but when i went to pay it there was a 1000 deposit for a Toyota corrolla all the other cars were 250 i thought that was weird because i was also charge 115 protection fee to keep deposit low. By this point i had to get this car because my daughter was waiting on me. And all the cars needed 3 hour window before picking up the car so i was stuck with this one for one the car was rented on time bwfore me. So i dropped my car May 8th 10 get my deposited of about 855. Ok whatever had complaints i did not see when i dropped off car and just dropping a car somewhere they have a 1000 deposit. You have to basely wait to the car owner scam since basely they have 1000 deposit plus card number. This is a warning to new hosts. You have to be very careful to do business with Getaround. I gave five stars review to Getaround few months ago. However now I realized that was a mistake. They only deserve one star. The claim team is terrible. I had one car impounded during rental period. The renter did not take the car out. Getaround did not do any thing to take the car out. I had to take the car out by myself. They did not make reimbursement for my time and the inconvenience. I paid $800 to take the car out. They even refused to pay the fee. Nobody could imagine that. Tried to use this service on two separate occasions and both started and ended in disaster. The cars were a mess, the dash was lit up like a Christmas tree, and both cars absolutely reeked of weed despite being nonsmoking vehicles. No maintenance is ever done on these cars and the owners just let them be run to the ground. The last car that I had rented had a screw in the tire that I had to pay to get replaced because I "didn't document it thoroughly enough during the initial inspection." The only reason that we didn't notice when we took off was that every single tire had low tire pressure and there were a dozen other issues shown on the dash. Not to mention, this wasn't even the car we rented. I was called less than an hour before the rental and informed that the original car isn't available anymore. Literally in the airport about to leave to pick up the car. The customer support was awful, unhelpful, and straight up rude through the whole process. Instead of giving an upgrade or some compensation, I ended up with a worse car and having to pay $200 for a new tire. Same goes for when I tried to pick up and drop off the car. After finding out the neighborhood needed a gate code, I tried to reach out to the owner with no luck so I called their support who basically just called me a liar and said no code was needed while I sat in front of the gate in my Uber. How many credits and refunds does it take to make someone go out of their way to give a bad rating and review online? For me, a lot. Getaround is full of issues, so you should consider all your alternatives before you rely on them for renting a car. First, the cars are sometimes disgusting inside. It is clear that some of them go many uses without a proper cleaning. I have had to sit on moldy/mildewy seats, have found fingernail (or toenail?) clippings on the floors/seats, and had to throw out other people's garbage. Getaround is supposed to have this amazing technology that allows you to unlock the car remotely. I had one experience where I walked a far distance to the car, and the car wouldn't even unlock. I contacted Getaround support and they offered to reimburse me only for transportation to another Getaround vehicle. I needed to get to an appointment, not make sure that Getaround could still get their money. They would not reimburse me for the travel costs that I incurred when I had to take an Uber directly to (and back from) the meeting for which I rented the car. In my most recent experience, the app allowed me to reserve a car that was supposed to be .03 miles away (yes, like right next to me), but as soon as they charged my credit card, the car was nowhere to be found. It was over 10 miles away. I missed another appointment because of this and it was hugely inconvenient. Since the cars are used so frequently and few of the owners care to make real repairs on the cars, dangerous situations can occur. I rented a car whose owner put tape on the underside of the car to "fix" a piece that was starting to detach from the car. I did not notice until I heard a scraping noice on the ground once I started driving on the highway. DANGEROUS! Owners are renting their cars on the app to you for profit, so they are trying to do maintenance and repairs as cheaply as possible. You have to take pictures of any existing damages when you rent the car so that you don't have to spend time explaining why you are not responsible for the damages once you return the car. You will potentially spend a few minutes walking around the car taking pictures all existing damage so that you are not held accountable. With this being said, I give Getaround 2/5 stars because on average, out of every 5 of my experiences, only two are seamless. Everything else involves a lot of issues and disappointment. If you are going to rent through Getaround, try to budget an extra hour to make sure you are prepared to deal with all their problems. The cars are for the most part clean, newer and in great working order. If however, you use Getaround to drive with Uber it could be frustrating when you have a situation.
