I…read morehad just started going to the Pollack Wellness Center in Commack where I saw her business card in the waiting area. My 11 year old Cavalier King Charles, Spencer, was about to die any day. He was very ill for a long time and I was struggling with the difficult decision of when was the best time to let him go to Heaven. I just lost my other dog Oreo (16 years old) less than a year ago. I was also in the middle of renovating our new home in Smithtown that we recently moved into after living in Nassau County for almost 30 years. I had such pain in my heart for such a long time after Oreo's death. My family (including my husband) and close friends couldn't understand why I was still grieving his death. Everyone would say, "just go out and get another dog" or "just get over it" or "why are you still crying". On top of this, Spencer had now passed away. It was like divine intervention that the universe brought me to Gwen at the time I needed her most. It wasn't until I met with Gwen did I realize what "grief" actually meant. Gwen is the most compassionate person I have ever met. She is kind, understanding, non-judgmental and so caring. Gwen explained the Grief Recovery Method and the work involved over the next 6 weeks. I immediately signed up to meet with her one-on-one. Finally, a safe place where I could cry and openly talk about my pet losses and not feel judged or crazy. Why was this grief for my dogs more paralyzing to me than I had for some "human" relatives I recently lost? First thing I learned is that there are no stages of grief. There is a big difference between sadness and pain. Time does NOT heal all wounds. Unattended grief tends to get worse as time goes on. There is nothing wrong with me. Grief is a normal and natural reaction to loss. Recovery from loss is a series of small and correct actions. I learned about short-term energy relieving behaviors (STERBS) such as overeating/drinking, excessive shopping, etc. All things that provided short-term relief. I also finally understood why I was so angry and quick tempered all the time. I was like a boiling tea kettle with a cork in the spout ready to explode. Over the next 6 weeks I learned how to "uncork" and deal with the emotions I was experiencing over the loss of my beloved pets. Pain does't equal love. Pain equal pain. Working with Gwen and going through the suggested exercises in "The Grief Recovery Handbook for Pet Loss" was invaluable. The chapters on creating a Relationship Graph, discussing Recovery Categories (apology, forgiveness and emotional statements) and the Completion Letter at the end of the program was life changing for me. There are no words to adequately describe how Gwen helped me through the most difficult time in my life. The key to this program was having an experienced and compassionate listener who made me feel safe and comfortable when I was pouring my heart and soul out. This program will help you gain valuable tools and insight to help you decide if and when you want to welcome another pet into your life. My heart is at peace now. Yes, I still get sad every so often but I don't get "stuck" in that sadness like I use to. I can now recall stores of Oreo and Spencer and smile (or even shed a few tears) because my heart is no longer shattered.

We have been to at least 10 to 15 psych throughout the years ,until we met our " guardian angel", Eric Spronz , omg we never expected to be heard and cared for by this wonderful doctor , pa, whatever you want to call him,but trust me, he is sent from above to HELP , my husband now a few days after 1st meeting , taking new medications, that abviously he needed and is getting back to his old self, happy, secure and confident ,Eric is only a phone call away! please do it for yourself , go see him once and you will be amazed! I warn you all to stay away and be wary of this exploitative private practice where the staff is…read morenot trained to deal with neurodivergent people or senior citizens especially with disabilities, ranging from vision and hearing impairments. Their website doesn't match the poor, rude, and frustrating staff that we dealt with to just schedule an appointment, which parents couldn't have scheduled on their own independently. For example, they're still paper-based. This is incredibly unsafe because their staff collect and share medical and financial info without HIPAA-compliance via encrypted forms or emails. Who knows how they or whoever accidentally gets this sensitive info may abuse it? Plus, this makes it difficult for those who aren't tech-savvy to complete their new patient intake, which is only 15 minutes. When we heard that their missed visit fee was $250 from their staff (especially their insensitive practice manager), they were neither empathetic nor accommodating in responding to our clarifying questions. When I checked that they only charge $50 for missed appointment fees, I was still alarmed because their patients likely struggle with issues, ranging from executive function to emotional regulation, and yet they show no compassion for resolving misunderstandings with neurodivergent patients and caregivers except to exploit their deficits by coercing them to pay for what they signed under false pretenses. No breakdown of costs including missed appointment cancellation fees were provided to answer our request. Plus, their staff conflicted with their messaging whereby their practice manager claims that they require cancellations within 24 hours to replace the vacancy with another patient while the other receptionist stated that it's impractical to find another patient on short notice. Since they don't seem to have social media, a system for communicating with patients efficiently except by phone and email, or even a telemedicine-equipped service to reduce costs during and after the pandemic, maybe that's why they';re so desparate to nickel and dime a disabled, neurodivergent senior citizen for missing a new patient intake after suffering from a stroke, recovering from a flight with vertigo, and other complications. Clearly, their staff have no business sense to invest in patient-centric customer care and I have no doubt this business will eventually close given their inability to treat the neurodiverse community with respect according to the American Disabilities Act and other regulations. Had they accommodated a courtesy waiver or televisit intake, they could've gain a family of patients and referrals at the expense of damaging the hard-earned reputation of Dr. Alan Steinberg, MD, who "served as a psychiatric consultant to Suffolk County Adult Protective Services and the Elder Abuse Multidisciplinary Task Force for Suffolk County." What would happen if their patients learned this is how their staff, including medical director, who is only a nurse, mistreats other prospective patients? Plus, he'd rather trust his staff than listen to the patient and caregiver for a balanced, holistic perspective to make any billing decision. Would you want a clinician claiming to be a doctor making one-sided decisions without listening to your account of events for a fair chance at reconciling misunderstandings? Worse yet, who is making medical decisions & prescribing drugs when there seems to be no certified doctor (except an emeritus retiree, who let's a nurse take over his practice)? Doesn't this sound scary, unsafe, and wary? ZERO stars if I could rate this place, which would likely be disgrace to its founder.
