Dr. Mutafyan is very knowledgeable, and answered all of my millions of questions. Even leading up to the 23rd, I called the office many times with multiple questions, and front desk was always very sweet. Lidya, Bianca, and there was one more girl, and one guy, but I completely forgot their names (I'm sorry) but they were all great to me. It's a sh*t show over there! Dr Mutafyan seemed like a decent enough Dr for my initial consultation, I have yet to be treated by him. I've been in the bariatric surgery program for six months now and every step of the way has been a complete nightmare. So much wasted time, money and miscommunication! It can take days or over a week to get through to them. often I just get a message saying they're at lunch, hours after their lunch should have ended. They're always rushing me on the phone and today they just hung up on me. My general practitioner's office had a similar experience. They told me nobody knows what's going on over there and they just keep getting hung up on! I wish I had looked into this BEFORE I did this program. STAY AWAY FROM DOCTOR MUTAFYAN if you have to get a Pilonidal cyst procedure. I went and got a Pilonidal cyst procedure and the infection came back the next couple days. He did a horrible job with the procedure. On top of the infection coming back, he and his nurse had no clue what they were doing with this type of procedure. After the infection came back, they treated me very poorly. Doctor Mutafyan kept saying everything was good when there was clearly an infection present and even when I told him I kept having discomfort. His solution was to just keep prescribing antibiotics in other words to put a band-aide on the issue at hand instead of solving the problem. Eventually I had to get a second opinion and another procedure for my pilonidal cyst because of the lack of care from Doctor Mutafyan. After I received my second opinion and got a second procedure from another doctor, I was told by the second doctor that I was very lucky because the infection was so bad that it almost spread to my rectum. All in all I don't usually write bad reviews but I had to write this because of the poor handling of my health and I want other people who are dealing with a Pilonidal cyst to go elsewhere so they don't deal with the same crisis as me. read more

Dr. M went through every detail of the procedure, gave me alternatives, gave me his recommendation, was understanding and not pushy when I initially decided to go another direction, and genuinely happy for me when I changed my mind and decided to go with his recommendation. I waited almost an hour to be seen. To be exact 14 minutes to complete an hour. I arrived at 2:09 and was not seen until 2:55. Another patient arrived after me. She was tired of waiting and asked that she needs to be seen and was taken before me..was not told there is a patient before you. I guess if you are their nationality they will take you first. This is the most caring ,doctor you could ever have. I've had other consults with other doctors who perform the same surgery from Westlake to marina hospital.I will not name names. Dr.Mutafyan doesn't only have a wonderful bedside manner he will take the time to go to extra mile for you.I put my son Andrew's life in his hands he's 22 and he's been battling a weight problem since he was born. I was extremely scared to let anyone operate on my son but this doctor had done an open heart surgery two hours before he did my son surgery. And he did a wonderful job for my son Andrew. every day my son was in the hospital at Glendale Adventist he came to see him everyday he was their. He always followed up because he does a lot of nonprofit surgeries all over the world and he doesn't do them for fame he doesn't because he cares.I had the sleeve done by another doctor and this was the biggest mistake I've ever made he didn't even visit me in the hospital not even for my discharge. Dr. Mutafyan would never do this.also I'd like to mention that my son has a high fever Dr Mutafyan demanded for him to stay in the hospital until his fever went down. Dr. Gevorg Mutafyan and his office staff are amazing! Dr. Mutafyan is very informative and explained everything in detail during my consult. He was able to answer any additional questions and concerns that I had. The entire process from consult to surgery took around 8 months due to my insurance requirements and Covid but his office staff was always on top of the paperwork. Covid added additional challenges as elective surgeries were on hold for a couple of months which led to the need to reschedule my surgery three times. Bianca handled these challenges with ease and ensured my experience was seamless. Office staff always had all the proper paperwork and pre-op test submitted on time so there were no issues with insurance. The office staff also plays as the liaison between patient and hospital, which can be challenging, but everyone was always in the loop. I encountered no issues at all throughout the entire process. The surgery went great with no complications. I even received a wellness check when I was home recovering to ensure that I was doing well and to see if I had any questions or concerns. Although Dr. Mutafyan had very good information, explained the procedures available and was very nice, his staff and processes were absolutely horrific! I've never dealt with such incompetent people. First off, they had no idea that I even had an appointment for the first consultation, so had to reschedule. Next it took 3 months to get through authorizations for the surgery. Why? His staff had no policies or procedures in place on how to work with a new patient. I constantly had to call to ask about next steps for authorizations. They would almost always say 'I don't know' or would ask if I received paperwork to send to the associated doctors (nutritionist, sleep apnea doctors and psychologist). I never once received any information or paperwork from his staff. I even asked to follow up these individuals and they never did, which in turn made me wait for weeks for a response because I never received paperwork to start the process. Once I got through consultations with Dr Mutafyan's requested nutritionist and psychiatrists (both questionable 'side jobs' in my opinion due to their personal email addresses as contact information) I thought I was finally on my way to surgery. Well I was very wrong. I was told from the beginning that Dr Mutafyan was covered by Blue Shield. I checked into this statement. Only one of his groups is actually covered. And when I asked his staff to ensure that all bills & authorizations were to go through one of the medical groups for insurance, their response was well I don't know what group is covered by blue shield. So I asked for the billing person. Guess what?!? They don't even have someone dedicated to talk to!! I was told that the person was just a lady that helped out, and they couldn't give her information out. What?!? Since when does a doctor not have a billing person to ask questions? That then turned into a debacle of authorizations waiting for approval because apparently their 'process' is to continue to send authorizations to insurance until one finally goes through. Needless to say, I wish I could have talked directly with Dr Mutafyan to let him know that his staff has no idea what they are doing and will absolutely ruin his practice. It's a shame that he wants to associate himself with such incompetent people. And I have moved on to another doctor and will never recommend Dr Mutafyan. read more

I would like to tell you about my experience with Dr. Mutafyan. First let me start with that I have done my research on weight loss surgery. After all my research last year I made my decision to go with Dr. Mutafyan. I went to his office in Glendale for consultation he was very nice and extremely knowledgeable, also his office crew were very helpful and full of information and answered to all my questions. Finally I had my surgery on 03/14/2018 and I feel GREAT! I have lost over 20 pounds during these four weeks. I had the surgery in Glendale Adventist. Dr. Mutafyan was so great. He made me feel so comfortable. The surgery was quick. I was knocked out with anesthesia after waking up I feel some discomfort but not to bad. I was transferred to room, which was really great as well and staff were very nice also. I have to say my whole experience was great. Dr. Mutafyan and his staff have been awesome and so helpful. A special thanks goes to all his staff, especially to Maria. All of them have been so great, they have taken care of me and I'm so glad I chose Dr. Mutafyan. Honestly, i couldn't have had a better experience. During the consult periods, where i had to get my dr clearances before putting my surgery required in to my insurance, Lillian was there every step of the way. Every question i had or every freak out because i was having trouble getting my appointments in, she was there to hold my hand and helped keep me focused on my goal. Knowing how badly i wanted this and how hard i was working towards getting my surgery, there happened to be a cancellation the day they got my approval and my surgery was set up. This place is fraud. I had a free consultation about Feb.2016 with the doctor. Wanted to do sleeve through my insurance. After the consultation with the doctor, he told me to talk to Christina, the office worker to tell me the process of getting sleep apnea, psych (phone conversation), and nutrition (phone conversation) tests and send the results to my insurance for approval. She promised that I will not be charged anything unless the insurance approves my surgery. After one test, I called twice and I was assured "don't worry, we will not charge you anything unless your surgery is approved". After all the tests, I called twice to get the results. Someone told me they will check and get back to me. Nobody called back. in October (8 months) later, I get a charge from a psych for testing. $2000 charged to my insurance for a 10 minutes phone conversation! I called the doctor's office and explained. Anna told me she will check and get back to me. Didn't heard back. On 11/21/16 took time off from work and went to their office. I started explaining it to Anna when another girl (she said her name was Irena!) jumped into our conversation, took my statement from my hand and started explaining to me that this is a copay. I said I know this is a copay, but that is not my concern. You need to hear my concern before you can answer. My concern is that I was told I will not be charged anything unless my insurance gets approved for the surgery. She started telling me "don't raise your voice, you are rude, leave the office or I'm calling the doctor." I left the office at that time. There is no sense in talking to someone with poor listening skills. REALLY! She was threatening to call the doctor? I wanted to talk to the doctor. I did not think I was being rude or raising my voice. I told her to listen to my concerns, before talking! I can go and show her how raising my voice will look like! She kept repeating that Christina is not working there anymore and Christina misinformed me! A business is responsible for what their workers do and say. This is insurance fraud. read more

This was a horrible experience. My insurance had referred me to this doctor for a serious varicose vein condition. The doctor didn't seem to have any idea what he was doing and butchered my leg for 2 1/2 hours with a lot of blood loss. He had said it would take 20 minutes and there would be very little pain. This was not true and the leg was in agony for 3 weeks. To top it off, the vein that he was supposed to have closed didn't close. I went to a different doctor who actually knows his business and it was a totally different experience. This expert doctor did 3 veins at once, in 20 minutes with no pain!!! I could not believe the difference. Also no bleeding! I am shocked at the malpractice of Dr. Mutafyan and he should not have a licence to practice vein procedures. read more
