Spoke to Larry at length about a 1914 motor and transmission. He is very knowledgeable and I could hear the pride of ownership in his voice. I had read every review I could find. After researching the negative comments, I found quite a few were also engine builders. "Competitors" My experience with his new sales person and Larry has been great and I am optimistic I have made a good decision. I'm not naive, I am a good judge of intentions. My engine should be here in 2 weeks. Will update after a few hundred miles on motor. Based on research, I'm sure I will be pleased. Thank you Larry for the extra time to answer all of my questions. I have heard of GEX International at car shows for some years now. So when it came time for an engine for my 72 Beetle, I wanted to give them a try. The salesman I talked to, Paul was very helpful in deciding which engine to get and patiently lead me through the options. We ended up with a 1776 with all chrome, balanced, dual carbs and serpentine belt and pulleys. A couple weeks later there it was. I was so excited to get it in and started. Worked like a charm. Can't wait to take it to the next show. I wanted to thank GEX International for a terrific buying experience. Update... I had a problem with the fuel pump on this engine after 1.5 years on it. Great experience from the time I called and ordered the engine until I installed it. The engine showed up very well crated in about 3 weeks with break-in instructions and a crankcase breather kit they recommended. After I installed it, the beast fired right up and runs great. Plenty of power in this 2110cc. I must say, I did read some negative reviews on the web, however this engine arrived very well built. My sister needed a place to get an engine for her 78 VW Beetle. So she left it up to me to find a good place for her to buy one. My first engine was bought from GEX back in 2001 for my 72 beetle.  That stock engine had 60k miles on it when my wife's car suddenly needed an engine.  So once again, I went with GEX, this time for a 1776.  4 years later this engine is still going strong with just some minor adjustments.  In the end I have been buying from this company for about 14 years and hope to keep buying from them for another 14+ years. read more

Just wanted everyone to know I just found the best VW engine place in my own backyard at GEX International. I received my disc kit 4 on 130 for my 72 Super Beetle - Larry from GEX helped me make the right choice. The kit came within 10 days as promised. After some painful installation due to my lack of expertise (I'm not a mechanic but I'm doing the restore by myself) everything seems to work great.
