They shut off my power when I changed providers by putting in an erroneous move out notification to ERCOT. I was not past due on any bills. Not even an apology when I spoke to customer service. Signed up for budget billing, which they think means massively over charging then massively under charging and then sending an $850 'correction' in one bill when they realize their mistake. They said I could pay half and then set up a payment plan, but after I paid half I could never get ahold of them again until I was forced to pay the whole bill or be past due. Later when addressing the lack of communication, they LIED about calling me. I had no incoming calls at all that day and claimed to have called me. Incredibly dishonest company with garbage software that can't even calculate a basic budget billing algorithm. Rude customer service the moment you have a problem. What a horrible gimmick. 2021 was flawless, went to renew and I made the mistake of trusting the rep. Put me on the plan she was convinced was best. Well my first month went up $100 over previous year same month, 2nd year same month was $300 more. Edit: May 2023 had to switch plans again because of the gimmicks quite working. I spent an hour on the phone with multiple employees trying to figure out why the bill is so much higher with them, but a lower Kilowatt per hour number... Two poor experiences in 6 months. Switching as quickly as I can. First one was budget bill. Budget amount started at a reasonable amount. Higher than our winter months and slightly lower than the summer. Then mid way through last summer it doubles in price going far above all but one summer month. Definitely not any kind of average. I called after 3 months of this to be told they don't have me set up to refigure the average until next year. So I request they take me off budget bill. I was then told due to the credit balance, I would not owe anything till April. Wrong. They shut off our power. I pay the bill and call. There are few things I would like to share with this company. Please beware of this scam company. I was just trying to check to see which energy company is good and I'm being billed for $23.84. I called them to dispute this matter and a week later I am being billed for $45.67. Not only did they not cancel my bill they charge me for late fees. What a scam!! Please be aware of this scammed! Am editing the original post. Not good - it should not take three days and up to 5 hours on the phone - talking to six (at least!) separate agents to initiate electric service - even #4 who promised to take ownership. The initial problem was #1 not giving me a tracking number. It went downhill from there. It took my grandson demanding action, and then holding on for a full hour on the phone while the final agent contacted, 'checked' that requested documents (already sent twice before to two different departments given by two separate agents: enrollments@ and lettersofcredit@) had been received and found, I was issued an account #. But that's not the end of the story. I received calls on September 23rd and 24th from agent(s) saying they could 'help.' Despite telling them the problem was solved, both insisted on my account # to 'recheck' my assurance that I indeed had service. Too little, too late. I hope going forward I have no reason at ALL to contact Gexa. Can someone explain why Texas needs over 80 companies shilling energy service? We are in the Lubbock area. When looking for a provider, we wanted someone who offered solar buyback since we just put on solar panels. Gexa advertised in our area that they offer solar buyback so we went with them. There was even an ad sent to us saying they offer solar buyback. Come to find out (after we signed the contract with them), they do not offer solar buyback in our area. In fine print it says they do not offer it in our area but it is in other areas. We called to cancel our service because we needed a company that offered solar buyback. I was on the phone for about an hour. When I told the first person I spoke with the reason we wanted to cancel, he told us that they could not wave the early termination fee of 155$. I told them that is fine, but we would need to write a review so people in the Lubbock area are aware that they do not offer solar buyback. The person then said they would contact their supervisor to see if there was anything that could be done. I was transferred to the supervisor and was told the same thing. I repeated that it was fine but we would write a review to let people know that solar buyback is not offered in our area. That supervisor then transferred me to his supervisor to see if anything could be done. This individual told us "as a one time courtesy" they would wave the cancelation fee. I woke up this morning and our card was charged the 155$ cancelation fee read more

I have had Gexa for the past year. No problems at all with billing, etc. I am/was happy with the rate. Contract is up for renewal and trying to contact someone for info, rates, etc. Lots of luck on that. You get personnel in El Salvador that can barely speak English.Tried twice to speak to someone and no help. Asked to speak to someone who speaks English and they state there are no Customer Services Reps in the US. Guess I will be looking for a new provider. read more

I signed up about a year ago for a fixed rate energy plan with my rate being approx 11.4c per kwH. When the 100 degree temps started in summer, my energy rate then jumped to 18c per kwH. When I contacted Gexa to ask why, I was told that [the fine print on the agreement] allows them to raise the rate if/when my monthly energy consumption goes beyond 2000 kwH. Further, Gexa was not inclined to offer any alternate plans or rates. In a nut shell: "sorry, not sorry". Monthly energy bills for each month of that summer were over $600 each month. When my contract expired I signed up with a different energy provider. Later I received advertising emails from Gexa. Solicitation emails are required, by law, to have a means to discontinue receiving such emails - the "click here" to unsubscribe link that you see on marketing emails. I happened to be at my desk in front of my email when a new solicitation email arrived from Gexa. Right away (within seconds) I clicked the unsubscribe link. When I did, it brought be to a page that said that "the link has expired", hence I could not unsubscribe. Shady business practices, skirting federal consumer protection laws. read more

I closed out my account with Gexa due to moving out of state and instead of refunding me, Gexa went through a debt collection agency for the money they OWE me. Trying to sort out the issue through their customer service is a nightmare and hours wasted on their overseas representatives. Once someone actually calls back, they are unable to help with the issue and transferred me to another line that rings eternally and no ones pick up. My issue is still unresolved and I highly recommend anyone signing up for Gexa to seriously consider the lack of accountability and service you will receive. Worst Company Ever. Signed up for a 12 month plan which started on 2/1. So the deposit portion of my contract was done in January. On 3/2 my power went out. Oncor told me to call my electric company because it was Not an outage. (It turns out some rando signed up for electricity at my address then the same day requested a move out. So my electricity was disconnected.) When I called Gexa they said they would NOT turn my electricity back on unless I sent them a deposit!!! As my original electricity provider they should have turned on my electricity as soon as possible instead they left it off until I contacted the Public Utilities Commission of Texas. Update 2: My neighbor called saying AEP had contacted him to say our lines had been mixed up, so that I've been paying for his energy and him for mine. I'm not sure what retailer he uses. Anyway, this was almost a week ago, and Gexa just sent me a weekly energy usage notification STILL showing ridiculously high consumption. I have asked Gexa to confirm that they will not report me to the credit bureau if I do not pay the disputed charges tomorrow when they are due, and silence. I have an excellent credit rating and I'm going to pay money I don't owe because I don't trust them not to ruin it, even though the PUC says they can't. Update: they quickly got back saying they have initiated a "billing dispute" and will update me in 1-3 weeks. They advised paying the amount I am not disputing, so I paid half. I will update again when I find out where this goes. OP: I have not been home since May 25. I left my AC at 85 (currently 86). There are 2-3 lamps on timers that come on for a couple of hours in the evening. My fridge is unplugged. I am not there to watch TV, use the W/D or the dishwasher or any other appliances. My usage is showing THROUGH THE ROOF (1800 kwH in June) and I am paying way more than I did last August when I was there and using the AC at 78 and all other appliances in high temperatures (1000 KwH). Avoid this energy provider. I gave Gexa Energy a try when they offered a plan with a discounted price if you reached a certain amount of energy per month. When my usage habits changed due to travel, I attempted to remain a customer and switch plans, but was not provided the option. Moreover, my credit card had expired and I failed to immediately update my autopay card on file. But because Gexa could not immediately collect payment on the due date, I was sent a *disconnection notice* in the mail and charged a $20 fee for that letter -- I received no notice via text or email. What a joke. I switched to TXU which offered a much more competitive rate and much more impressive customer service. Do yourself a favor and avoid Gexa. Their online portal and energy usage tracker are among the worst as well; Reliant and TXU offer much more engaging, real-time tracking. read more

At first I was in love with Gexa Energy, until my contract was up and there was no auto-renewal process in place for my current rate. Therefore, due to the absence of an auto-renewal in place for customers, my contract transitioned to a month-to-month basis doubling my bill to $320 dollars. I can't believe that during a time like this Gexa Energy would take advantage of their customers in such a manner, showing what true corporate greed really looks like. I reached out to the company to calmly discuss this issue and the only solution provided was a payment plan that would only drag out paying the $320 over the course of three months along with the monthly electric bill. Not even an offer to credit the following month for taking advantage. I am just utterly disgusted. I will be leaving Gexa Energy and sharing my experience with anyone that will listen. Constant problems with Gexa website where the website will tell you the password you entered is incorrect when logging into your account. Then, you try the password reset option and it won't accept a new password, despite the new password meeting all of their required password criteria. Moved out of Texas in November 2022. You are considering Gexa only because you're looking at their prices and thinking the price will allow you to tolerate bottom of the barrel business practices. This is exactly what you're getting. I've had Gexa for years on auto-draft and we just manage our energy consumption to the best of our abilities. As long as you never have to actually interact with them they're fine. A presence. That's all they can offer. But if you ever have to call them to discuss anything with your bill or subscription that goes beyond the basic understanding of an inattentive 2nd grader who got a family celebration at Cici's pizza for miraculously managing to achieve a D- average once, you can expect to be "transferred" to a "specialist" or "manager" or "different department." That's code for "someone else who has the same job title as me because I'm too dumb to answer your question and they probably are too." Once, I kid you not, I had to call this company twice for the same issue and both calls lasted over an hour, and both calls I was transferred to over seven people. Each needed an explanation from square one, and no one had any idea how to help me. It became a joke after a while because I was actually laughing and telling the employees the second they introduced themselves what they were about to say to me before the "unfortunately I don't have the capability on my system to help you with this issue. Let me transfer you to the correct department." Gexa energy obviously outsources their customer service overseas. On the 1/20 chance that you get someone with an American accent don't bother hoping that you finally got through to someone who will be able to help you. They'll be just as clueless as the last Jim, Eric, Robert, Mike, Ericka, Stephanie, or Samantha you spoke to. All with thick Indian, Latin, or Filipino accents. Honestly, WORST customer service experience, our account got closed without our permission and we've been calling customer care for ~days~ trying to get proof for our apartment complex that we did not close the account and that it was closed for us, all we asked for was an email stating that this was the case and they refuse to provide reason for account closure even though they've told us over the phone that another provider requested it, not us. On top of that I've tried to add my significant other to my account to handle the issue and they claimed they added him as a verified account owner yet they still ask me to verify that he can receive information on the account, it's 2022 they should have a better user interface for their website and better customer service, this is a company that is stuck in the times, chose another more modern and with the times company, avoid the headaches. read more

I was surprised to learn that instead of being charged a early termination penalty fee I was given a credit for being a loyal customer! Although there was some confusion in the confirmation email about the new plan, after a couple back and forth emails with they're customer service everything was straightened out and I'm elated. read more

Terrible and Rude customer service. I called for their energy plans and the gentleman on the phone was trying to pressure me into a plan within 5 minutes. Any question I asked about the plan like going over or under the kWh he would sigh and very quickly go over the pricing. I would have to slow him down and verify I added my numbers right.
