They only have a small-ish store, so in fact their capacity to stock lightbulbs is, definitively, limited. This is an absolutely wonderful store located in the Montrose neighbourhood of Houston. They basically have all the hard-to-find bulbs and similar products, and many which you wouldn't be able to get anywhere else. Stupid Ikea, requiring stupid specialty bulbs, that you can only specifically buy at stupid Ikea. I just recently moved into a studio apartment and of course this old apartment doesn't have a ceiling light in the main space. So I went to Ikea to buy a floor lamp. I bought one with the main light and a "reading" light that's attached to the main one. If you get what I mean. I had some bulbs at home and put it on the main light. But wait. Hold up. The one that's attached has a base that's TOO small to fit my light bulb that I have at home. What. Curse you Ikea. Went to Lowes/Home Depot and even they don't have what I need. Apparently it must be a "specialty" bulb. Curse you Ikea. But wait. Lowes suggested this place Light Bulbs Unlimited. I went home, brought my lamp and VOILÀ! the owner was so knowledgeable it was crazy. He knew exactly what I needed. Tested out different bulbs, the color and the brightness I was looking for. He even had an adapter to put on my lamp so that I could purchase a bulb I need. If you're looking for a specific specialty bulb or just any bulb, this place has it! This is a wonderful place and really great for finding lightbulbs that appear to be non-existent! My mother gave me a lamp with a tiny bulb in it. This is a great lamp to have around, especially when the power goes out, but it ceased working this past weekend. I went in to Light Bulbs Unlimited on Monday morning and they gave me a comparable bulb. I tried it out at home and my lamp still didn't turn on. I returned today with my old bulb, my new bulb, and the lamp. They graciously fidgeted, grabbed a new bulb, and situated it into the socket (mind you, this was no ordinary lamp or bulb)! I ended up with a 4watt bulb that lit up the lamp nicely. After all the consternation, I was able to go home with a perfect bulb for only $1.35. I've driven by this building many, many times never paying any attention until now. I had tried 4 different lighting stores, none of which carried my specific replacement bulbs and two of them referred me to Light Bulbs Unlimited. They were right in doing so! This place carry's many different types of replacement bulbs along with copious amounts of lighting fixtures for sale. I guess the only drawback is the place is packed to the gills with floor, wall and ceiling light fixtures and seems it needs some housekeeping. read more

I bought many LED bulbs from here for the outside lights in my house. They are expensive ($20 each, but that's not this shop overcharging, they are just expensive) but are supposed to last 20 years. Well, two of them broke (literally) after a couple of months, so I took them back. No receipt (who keeps receipts for light bulbs anyway) and so I only had the bulbs. The gentleman behind the counter was very nice (they always are - the one-star review below must be a competitor fake, it goes too far to be real) and he said he'd never seen this before. In the hunt for cool things to decorate our new digs with, we ended up here for a new lamp. I'd driven by it numerous times while in the Montrose area and was curious. Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed. Most of the lights in here were cheesy, bar/pool hall lights. Which actually was the highlight of the store. They had the fun florescent lights, lava lamps, and some slightly suggestive things that aren't necessarily family friendly. If I were looking to decorate a bachelor pad, the back section would be perfect. As for the rest of the lights in the joint, I was disappointed. They were pretty low quality for the most part with a few really nice fans. The store was much smaller than you'd expect and since every square inch was filled with lamps, it was a bit claustrophobic. I was so nervous being in there, expecting to be "that idiot" that did the domino effect of knocking over every single lamp in the store. Since there wasn't anything there that suited out needs, we skedaddled as soon as possible to avoid my klutzy ways destroying things. read more

Cory O, you are dead on! My partner and I were looking for stuff for our place and after we got most of the furniture from Cantoni, W. Sonoma & Crate, we forgot a floor lamp... so this was the closest and thought we drop by. Yes, its clutter with things and we really sneered upon most of the lamps on display but just when we were giving up, I saw a simple lamp (similar to a microphone stand) just in front of the entrance. We looked at it and finally decided to get it as it cost only $159. We also got a nice small table lamp that cost $50, both lamps are made in China, you can see it by the packaging... Anyway, we paid and waited 3 business day... now the adventure begin... They only open till 6pm Mon-Fri, so i had to rush down there after work. Picked the lamp up, supposedly flew in from California. The box were opened and the foams in it were a mess, falling apart as i retrieve the lamp out from the box. Try to assembled it and the last bit didnt screw in coz its missing an important bit, so i had to send it back the next day before 6pm... they reordered it and after 1 week, still no news, i called and they called the supplier and its still no lamp after 2 weeks... So, as it aptly named... this place is probably good for getting any sort of bulbs, thats it! I purchased two boxes of 24 Edison LED light bulbs in November 2020 and kept the receipt. I returned eight bulbs that burned-out prematurely (should last at least 15,000 hours, but on daily for four hours) or would fill with water. I was told by the owner that he would not replace the defective bulbs because it was over six months since the purchase. This is second time the owner did not offer reasonable warranty claims. Even though I prefer to shop local, I will not return to this store. read more

Honest to God, they have every kind of light bulb on the face of the Earth!! Over the years, I've gone here with every possible sort of bizzare-sized and burned out bulb. They're NEVER at a loss!! It's just a calm "Oh sure. We've got those." How a small building like that can hold such a seemingly endless stock of the most obscure bulbs is really beyond me. It's like those tiny cars at the circus when 100 clowns get out of the damned thing!! They also have lots of lamps, lighting fixtures, etc, some of them of dubious tastefulness, but beauty's in the eye of the beholder, I'm told. I'm going 4 stars and not 5 because, even though they've never failed to have any bulb I've needed, the prices for said bulbs have often been a bit frightening! I was so pleased with the service. I brought in two lamps for repair. They took a look and knew it was a minor issue. They sold me a couple of lightbulb sand didn't charge for the lamp adjustment. They could have taken the lamps and made the small adjustment and charged me for it. I wouldn't have known any better. They are honest and they have all of my business. read more

While these guys definitely know what they are talking about technically, don't expect any deals: Compared to big-box stores like Lowes and Home Depot, this place is a minimum of twice as expensive, maybe more. For instance: Halogen and LED MR16 lamps; 12V transformers; LED flood light. I have literally purchased all these from LBU, as well as from a big-box store: In every case, LBU was at least twice as expensive. While "twice" isn't much when you are buying $1.99 incandescents, it's definitely noticeable when you are buying $39 LED flood lamps, or $30 transformers. I prefer to keep my money in the community; however, at this rate, I feel like I'm subsidizing somebody's retirement. read more

I have bought bulbs here before, and was pleased. However, today I had the poorest service imaginable. I took 3 bulbs in and asked for replacements. Ignoring the wattage on the bulbs I brought in, the salesman took one out of my hand and said, "I'll get it." I didn't notice that he brought back a 100-watt bulb which my light fixture couldn't handle. I was shocked at the $50+ charge for the bulbs, and asked how much the floodlight was. "$10 apiece", he said. When I got home, I could see it was the wrong wattage and took the two bulbs back and asked for a refund. He then denied that those particular bulbs were $10 apiece, so my refund was less than $20. I was chagrined when I returned home again to see that he had given me two 50 watt Halogen bulbs, rather than the 100-watt size I had given him. It's 5 miles to that store, so I'm not going to take them back. BUT I WILL NEVER GO TO THAT STORE AGAIN! read more

I liked this place immediately--the selection is unusual, the advice is always solid, and the staff is much more than reasonable. Yes, you can find less expensive versions, but the advice, efficiency, and selection is an outstanding bargain all together. Compared to other franchises, I would not even consider going elsewhere. I've been in and out of Light Bulbs Unlimited on 1203 Westheimer, 77006, periodically. Here are the facts for why I will never return. On December 7, 2013, I spoke to Harold Bekker and the guys about having my classic Houston Rockets Miller Lite neon beer signed fix. Due to the Lite word being double barred, I was quoted a cost of $560 + $46 in tax, to repair four letters or eight bars full of neon. I did not shop around, no internet surfing, just trusted this local store with the truth. I was told a couple of weeks to repair the word "LITE" and it may not look exactly as it does now because the man fixing it will have to make the letters from the beginning. Next, I walk in the store on December 31, 2013 wanting my Miller Lite sign. I have not received a phone call since dropping the sign off four weeks earlier. I was told the one and only man who fixes these neon signs is out skiing in CO. Upon seeing my agitation, the rep added now, the repair man only needs two DAYS to fix the sign. Put me OVER the top. I asked for my money back, total refund ($606) and my sign. I drove to The Neon Gallery on 1416 West Alabama, and spoke to Mr. Tim Walker, a very nice man. He looked at my Miller Lite sign and quoted me a price of $160 + tax. How wonderful. I should not be surprised that Light Bulbs Unlimited saw this single gal with no knowledge about having her neon sign fixed, and the whole crew behind the counter wants a commission off of me for fixing it.
