i have reached out the company on 3 different occasions! all we want is help transferring the bill to my daughter who took over the home! terrible rude people to deal with and the way they spoke to me was horrible! i told them to cancel my acct immediately as i would not be talked to like that when i was only looking to pay our bill online and help setting that up.. i would NEVER recommend these people to anyone! Do not use. Trash service contract in Woodbridge, VA is not honored. Though they pick up 'regular' trash - yard waste (a paid for svc) is not picked up despite prior coordination with the service department. Critical to note, yard waste is scheduled event for a different day and despite numerous calls to see why GFL cannot pick up the paper bags with cut leaves, I continually get an 'apology' with we will fix it. 3 weeks later no pick up and a lot of run around. If you must use these guys - be prepared to be lied to up front by the customer service department who cover for their absent truck drivers who are suppose to be providing a paid service. Very unprofessional (at worst) and disorganized (at best) company. Neither is a good for business model. Use at your own peril. read more

Just look at the 100% ZERO star rating this joke of a trash service has and that will inform you of everything you need to know. We had M&W Hauling for years...before they were bought out by this atrocious Canadian conglomerate who has absolutely NO oversight on their service, (just TRY to get ahold of a supervisor or a manager, you'll be laughed at, no joke). You call, and call and call ad nauseam to get your trash picked up, and all you get is a sad person on the phone. The trash hauler's look depressed, overworked and underpaid. This company should be run out of the Country immediately!! EFL Environmental is the subject of NUMEROUS lawsuits and that is no surprise. DO NOT sign up for their trash service, you will be absolutely miserable with their "service". Oh gosh. These folks have little going for them it seems. Neighbors and I have different monthly fees for the same service. It's a surprise when they answer the phone. I discovered that if you select the option of service requested then they pick up. Every week I have to stop my car in the middle of the road and move the cans from blocking the driveway despite many voicemail complaints. Ugh! I switched to Neighborhood Trash! This company has some somehow managed to make Waste Management look good. they make errors frequently with their billing and pick up and then have the audacity to get snippy when I call to complain and request to set the record straight. Super expensive compared to other services. They are the only game in town so we all have no choice, but to go through GFL. Terrible. read more

We paid them on time with a bank receipt to boot and they said they never received it but would call us back when their systems were working. Sent us to collections instead! And admitted they never reached back out to us or let us know in any way that there was an issue. Double paid plus all the fun little "late" fees they decided to tack on. The absolute worst monopoly in Virginia! Terrible trash service in North Stafford county. No driver follow up after several missed days week after week. They'll bill you, but never get your trash or recycling on-time. Especially after holidays. I really wish there were alternatives. read more

I just received a debt collection notice from MAACB on behalf of GFL!! When I signed up for garbage disposal services in 2017 I was a County Waste Customer. GFL bought out County Waste and continued to raise prices to the point that I looked elsewhere for garbage service. I was NEVER late paying. I made multiple calls and finally got through to GFL to notify them my desire to cancel. The lady on the phone informed me GFL has a $50 container removal fee. I told her that I would bring the can to them and she said there was not a way for me to do that. I told her then I will not be paying a fee that I never agreed to pay. GFL has sent that to collections but I will not be paying!!! read more

I would give this company a negative rating if I could. I had a 4 yard dumpster service for my business. It use to be County Waste and I had no issues for years. I closed my company but kept the dumpster for convenience and back it out to 1 time a month pickup. When GFL took over they had several issues with trying to make the normal pickup. There were times they were 1 week or more late and I had trash that wouldn't fit into the dumpster. They were very undependable, the price went up of course, and they added a Fuel Sur charge. After many times of calling I asked them to discontinue service and remove the dumpster. They refused. They said I was under a contract. For the record it was an automatic renewal. The contract stated that if the business ceased it was acceptable for early termination without penalty. I explained that my business no longer existed but the rep said that didn't matter. After months of issues with this rep he stated that if I could prove the company did not exist, by a letter from a CPA he would allow it. I told him I wasn't going to hire a CPA just to please him. The contract said nothing about this being a requirement. They were not picking up any trash during this 3 months of discussion. I had already got a new one in from Allied Waste. They do a great job by the way. It took them about 6 months to come and get the dumpster. I was not there when they picked it up. I can only assume they got it. On the 8th of February a large truck was driving around in the dark on my farm at 6am. I turned on the porch lights and went out. I got the driver to stop and he said he was there to pick up the dumpster for GFL. It has been over a year since my arguments with the rep & they had come and got it. I told him there was none there and he left. Now the other day on Feb. 19 2023 I got an invoice dated 2-15-24 by email from GFL wanting $50.00 for "CANCELED BAD CREDIT" What ever that means. AND of course a $9.06 fuel surplus charge. I called them on and after 30 minutes they said they would have the rep Tim George call me that day. He never called so I called back. They said they would have him call me that day. Today is 2-23-24 and they still have never contacted me. This is the very worst company out there. I have heard NOTHING GOOD from anyone that has had to deal with them. read more

Most unreliable service I've ever experienced to date. Multiple missed pickups with no warning nor explanation. Near impossible to talk with a rep on the phone. False promises of "make up" pick ups. Fortunately we found an alternate trash service and can finally terminate our service with GFL. Would not do business with this company if there are any other alternatives in your area. read more

We have had a chronic problem with GFL picking up trash and recyclables since we moved into our new home 18 months ago. They are supposed to pick up every week but usually only pickup twice a month at best while we still pay them for a weekly service. To say that this company is abysmal is a complement. The problem is they have a monopoly in this area and the Stafford County Government does little or nothing to provide oversight (permitting and licensing, fines, etc) to motivate this company to provide adequate service. Trash has become a public health concern but again the county appears to not care. Oh yes they have granted GFL county customers reduced landfill fees if they drive their trash to the dump, you have to be kidding! read more

This company's service is erratic and they are unresponsive to complaints. They have failed to pick up trash on many occasions and calls to customer service are just about pointless. As it stands at this writing, GFL has filed to pick up my trash for 2 weeks in a row. read more

I've had service with this company since 2006 in GA. I've never been happy with them. The company does not seem to be in business to service the people or the areas where they are. We, the people who contract with GFL, have no other choice in our area, so it functions as a monopoly. GA has private trash collection in rural or unincorporated areas; however, there are no choices, only one company serves the area. So it's a kind of monopoly and the company pretty much gets away with everything. If a resident complains, the company's answer is that it's in the policy and what they mean is that it's in the fine print of many pages of lawyer speak. Honestly the state of GA should do something about it. Their service is sloppy and sometimes they spill the trash on the street and don't even bother to pick it up. Sometimes the garbage containers get tossed in the middle of the street causing driving hazard, and if one moves and wants to cancel the polity, one gets charged through the next quarter even if one has received only one day in the quarter. There are no scenarios where this company serves the individual. It preys on the individual. read more

Absolutely the worst service I have experienced with trash/waste removal. They failed to service my neighborhood for 2 weeks then completely blew me off when I called to inquire about the problem. I was told regardless of the fact that they normally come to my residence between 6 - 7 am I have to wait until 5 pm before I can have anything escalated...even after 2 weeks of no service. I was also told that the issue may be a new driver or substitute driver which is why I may not have been serviced for 2 weeks. This confused me because GFL still takes my money with no problem. They have no problem charging me by month (4 weeks) even though they have yet to service me for the last 2 weeks. I tried explaining the fact that I have already given them 2 weeks to fix the issue my trash is full as well as my neighbor's I do not want to leave trash out because it is summer time bugs will be attracted and infest. This lead to more deflecting and refusal to escalate matters on GFL's end and they refused to either contact the driver who is responsible for my neighborhood or dispatch someone to fulfill the waste removal service I pay for. DO NOT USE GFL. STRONGLY RECOMMEND A DIFFERENT COMPANY THAT PRIORITIZES THE CUSTOMERS WHO PAY THEM. read more

It's seriously pathetic when a company owes an almost $300.00 refund to a former customer but then will not release the funds to his widow. My husband PAID for services, which he canceled due to dissatisfaction with the poor quality. A refund check recently arrived in the mail for $291.14. Unfortunately, my husband unexpectedly passed away almost four months ago. GFL Environmental/Waste Management/Fredericksburg Hauling... whatever name they choose to go by, refuses to return those funds to his widow because we did not have a joint checking account. I offered the same proof that the Dept. of SSA accepted to allow me to receive survivor's benefits. Still, GFL Environmental/Waste Management/Fredericksburg Hauling gets to set its own standards. They may be more in need of the funds. I suggested they reinstate the services they have already been paid for if they will not honor the refund due. They have refused unless I pay more.!!!!!!!! They obviously do need the funds more than I do. read more

We moved to VA June 2022 and signed up with GFL. It took them several weeks to even get cans to us, all while charging us for said services. Several weeks throughout the course of our 1.5 year contract with them were spent wondering why our trash wasn't actually picked up. I called once last summer about it and was told they would look into it. They didn't. We canceled last week. They then proceeded to charge us for October (they are reimbursing for this) AND they are charging us $50 to remove the trash cans. It's in their "contract"; however, the contract also discusses services they should be providing and when... which they have failed to hold up their end of the contract based on this. We spoke with someone last week, and she said she would call us back in 24 hours regarding the "exit" fee. She didn't. I called today and spoke with someone different. He forwarded her the information. She didn't bother calling and only sent an email saying they aren't doing anything about it and still charging us anyway. One month of no trash cans, plus several weeks of skipped trash (35.50 a month plus a now $50 exit fee) pickup equals well more than the $50 they are charging us. Money we won't get back. This company is trash. read more
