Recently our city switched from Waste Management to GFL. Can't sign up through the website. City directed me to call to sign up for curbside recycling. What a joke!!! twice disconnected. third time now calling and I've been on hold for 20 minutes? all this to sign up, can't imagine the nightmare I will have if there's a problem. I live in Redford mi and 2 times in 3 weeks they haven't picked up yard waste and when I call they won't let me speak to a manager or give me a phone to a manager. So it's just a run around. So they won't pick up after they get paid. I'm not sure how this company stays in business. I called and was on hold for an hour and got nothing done. In Redford if you have trash out after 6 pm on the day of pickup the police can give you a ticket. Horrible service. Every week they miss something in our sub, sometimes for more than a week items sit at the curb. It seems ridiculous, but this has been going on for years and we always get the same "things are running behind/slow" excuse. Forget reporting an missed pick-up... they close our the report without checking and problem not resolved. Quite possibly the most incompetent business I've ever dealt with. They bought out a small local company and went completely downhill. Insane prices, repeatedly missed pickups ("we ran out of time, we'll pick it up next week") and now I've been waiting 3 weeks for my bins to get picked up after cancelling service ("he's behind, so we rescheduled you for next week. Service is absolute crap, missed well over 25 pick ups over one year, they never can pick everything up they allow maggots' to spawn in your trash and say they will have somebody out only to wait 3 weeks and constant calls, plus we have had GFL for well over 10 years we worked with them through there games as they struggled because the grew to much, and they then sold off their residential contacts didn't tell us that, and has been 3 weeks since last pick up i have trash all over my house, all over my road, and to top it off GFL sold trucks to the new company and shit in the tanks put oil down the fuel tanks 200, of the 400 vehicles worked and now i still have trash, i feel like this is grounds to sue GFL for the blatant failure to uphold a service properly, i will never ever do work with GFL again or any of there sister company's, absolute crap, take this value you mind as well go and burn your trash in your back yard, because they couldn't give care at all about their customers. if their is a lawsuit i will be joining it because i feel that all the money i paid them and never got the service i was promised i want multiple months of money, back as we have dealt with this for over 3 years and was willing to give them the benefit of the dowt, absolutely furious with them! read more

The absolute worst customer service! When they can't answer your questions they hang up on you. Their website stated they were closed for Memorial Day, but they picked up on Monday. Have called and spoken to customer service several times... my compost materials have been at the curb on the evening prior to my scheduled pickup day and still not picked up ...been there the 3 days. Even asked for a supervisor to call me about this. NOTHING! Customer Service Rep says "I will put you on the list for 1st available pickup when they can get a truck in the area", with no commitment on when pickup will occur. Is this any way to run a business? If you had a choice with your township, would you select and be satisfied with this level of service? I have no confidence it will be picked up...likely will have to wait till next week's pickup day. I cancelled my trash pickup service from GFL in June, 2021. They have not picked up their trash can in over a year! Today, a GFL truck dropped off new trash cans at my neighbor's home. I left their bright green can laying on its side at the end of my driveway. They just drove right on by. A year long enough and I now consider this trash can abandoned. This is the WORST company ever. I've had nothing but problems ever since I got them picking up my trash. The drivers make a mess and leave it, the customer service is terrible, and they don't pick up when they're supposed to. If you try to call them you'll sit on hold for an hour plus. Then when / if you get a real person they're not much help. They are sure to debit your account every three months though. I'd add less than one star if I could. read more

If I could leave a zero star review I would. This company is just like the stuff they supposedly pick up, TRASH!!!!!!! Their customer service is horrible. They want you to sign lengthy contracts, after which they jack up the prices. Then they tell you that if you wish to cancel services, you have to pay what they call "Liquidation Damages". This works by taking an average of the last 3 months of invoices and they multiply that number by 6. So if your average of these invoices is $900, multiplied by 6 is $5,400. Plus any money owed for unpaid invoices and any removal fees they may charge you. They also claim to be the only MERF in my area. However, after a quick Google search, I found several MERFs in my area. What they won`t tell you is that Virginia law requires that 15-25% of all recyclables must go to a MERF facility. Their pricing practices are very deceptive. They charge for services even when those services are not rendered. They claim to have GPS and onboard cameras to prove that they pick up when they are scheduled. But I have a camera system in place that shows that my recycling was not picked up on either of the 2 days that it is scheduled to be picked up. Which would mean that they have violated the terms of their own contract. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRASH COMPANY. GO WITH ANOTHER TRASH COMPANY. read more

I wanted to give a shout out to GFL. They have provided excellent service. They have picked up every time even in terrible conditions. I have personally seen them retrieving bags out of ditches and picking up around cans when stuff has fallen out (from no fault of their own). The office personnel are friendly and helpful. I have even been given a call back making sure I knew what day is pick up. Don't listen to one's who say they can not get through. Maybe for a little while in the beginning, but good grief they were just starting out. That is not the case now. I do recommend GFL. read more

We use GFL for Waste and Recycle. I needed a new trashcan. Long story really short, it took over 2 months to get a new trashcan. When the can was dropped off, they put it at my front door and never took the old broken can which was by my garage. We were told they needed a separate "pick up" request which my HOA had already put in when they put in the order for the new can. My HOA called GFL to complain stating they were to pick up the old can and never did -- that was over a month ago -- again! The broken can is still sitting on the curb waiting to be picked up. I dont care if its a 3rd party, pick it up already! The men who pick up the trash and recycle are awesome, very friendly. Customer service is awful and this pick up old can/drop off new can process is disastrous and rude. I cannot understand how it takes so long to do this. This is just ridiculous. I would write a review on BBB but I cannot find the company. I see other reviews of this nature -- the owners need to get on this. This is giving GFL a bad name. read more

Poor customer service! They miss trash pick up on a regular basis and do a sloppy job when they actually do their job. No one responds via phone or email. Their Web site is poor. This company sucks! My pick up day is Wednesday. Every couple of months they somehow manage to "forget" to pick mine up , although my neighbor across the street does not have this proble. I have called 3 times since wednesday, and sent an email, and was told everytime that they would pick up my now full recycable can. I find it hard to believe that the city of Fenton Mi wants to change to GFL. We have them in Tyrone Township Mi and they are extremely unreliable. They have missed our trash 3 times in the last year. At least before you could contact them and they would come the next business day. I have sent them 3 emails, none of which received a reply. I called twice and was on hold for 20 mins both times. I decided to test the call center and put my pone on speaker and took it along for over 3 hours!! I was #2 in line for 1.5 hours and next in line for 1.75 hours. Even with only 1 operator they could have answered faster than that. If they miss our trash again today, our only choice is to drive up to their office on Bristol Rd. Even if short staffed, they still seem able to cash your check. read more

I'm a resident of Redford Township since 2000. I have never had issues with garbage pick up ever. Grew up in Detroit, never a problem. Hopefully Redford Township ends their contract with GFL Environmental in 2021. This is the worse company on the planet. Even before the pandemic, we had problems with them picking up garbage. GFL missed our trash pickup 7 times in 2019. They are already up to 4 in 2020. We have called ago report it to customer service they say they will get it the next day, To date they have not followed up. We have to keep our garbage for an additional week. read more

This business, if you want to call it that took over Waterford MI. I went online, signed up, paid for 3 months. They picked up the first week. The second week they didn't I went online, couldn't find my information. signed up again, made another payment. This is the third week in a row that I watched the truck (#563) throw both my recycling and trash into the same place on the truck.  Even if these trucks can handle both trash and recycling, I'm pretty sure that they can't be placed on the same lift and be dropped into the same opening on the top of the truck.  I'd like to know that I'm paying for recycling which will really be recycled.  This is the third week in a row I watched him do this.  I've also reported it once ... nothing changed.  What's going on at GFL? I called to speak to customer service (which always seems to have an "unusual" number of calls ... I wonder why?) I was told that the trucks handle the trash and recycling in the same truck. When I told hi that the driver placed both trash and recycling on the same lift and dropped it into the same opening, he told me that the truck knows how to separate it once it's inside the truck.
