Besides clinical services there is also a full-service laboratory and diagnostic center. The building is located next to Plum Point Park on the Elizabeth River so there are wonderful scenic views from offices on the east side of the building as well as the attached parking garage. The building is always clean and well maintained. Restrooms are always clean and properly stocked and the elevators always operate correctly. I appreciate the attached parking garage which affords ample parking to access the building as well as shelter from foul weather. I have always been able to easily find available parking. Access to the garage is controlled by automated gates. Parking is free for the first two hours. If you plan to be in the building for longer than that make sure to get your parking ticket validated so you don't have to pay. I get my ticket validated in my doctor's office or the diagnostic center which are both located on the eighth floor. I have been very satisfied with my visits to this building over the years. I enjoy the convenience of getting to the plaza by car but it is also accessible by The Tide light rail system.

There are a number of buildings, including what must be EVMS housing. Not only is it less crowded & easier to navigate than the labyrinth of the "across the street" complex, the main building that houses most of the patient related offices is very patient friendly. The above describes building has an attached parking garage with an easy to access elevator opening to each floor's small lobby. There are handicapped parking spaces directly adjacent to the glass enclosed elevator. For evening appointments, a security guard is stationed in the elevator area. Walking is at a minimum, which is perfect for me. My Cardiology Practice is located in the building as is the Sentara Sleep Center, which I've also visited numerous times. If your doctor orders lab work, you only have to take the elevator to the Sentara Fort Norfolk Diagnostic Center. Fort Norfolk Medical Plaza is easy to access, not just from Norfolk, but also Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Suffolk & Western Branch. It is very near the spot where Brambleton forks into the Midtown Tunnel & Hampton Boulevard. There is a Light Rail stop at Fort Norfolk for those who don't like to drive, Coming from Virginia Beach, one can make an easy trip via I-264 taking the best route through Waterside to Bousch to Brambleton. I usually make the return trip on the surface streets ending up on Princess Ann/Northhampton. Do you know why it's called Fort Norfolk? Guarding the Norfolk side of the Elizabeth River & Harbor is the fully restored War of 1812 era Fort Norfolk. It is currently only manned by ghosts of the past. But if you're lucky enough to secure a tour you can experience 21st century men re-enacting their 19th century forebears. Learning the history of Fort Norfolk will make you happy to be treading on historical footprints, if only for a doctors appointment.

I also read the information she put in my appointment summary and she quotes that I took beta blockers before and quit them because I didn't like the side effects. I don't know who she is referring to because I have never taken a beta blocker. I have asthma and it isn't safe for me to take them and I have never had a need for them. She also quoted me as being impulsive depressed and anxious. I had just been through the hospital stay from hell due to a headache that caused me to lose all sensation on the left side of my body where I was put through 3 lumbar punctures in a day and a half. I am still in extreme pain and the headache won't go away. Clearly I am not going to be happy when a doctor looks at me and says I don't know that we are going to be able to do much else for you. My blood pressure was 147/97 and my heart rate was 140 this is not normal for me at all. Noone but the nurse seemed concerned. I left the office barely made it to the car and had to call for help to get to the ER because of how sick I was. The doctor ended the visit summary by stating she thought I was overwhelmed by caring for my three kids one of which is ill. Well I have two kids and the only point i made about my children was that I needed to be able to function so I could be a good parent and care for them so I needed this headache to be resolved. A headache that lasts for a week is not normal. I am completely disgusted by the lack of patient care or professionalism. Such a disgrace!

I cannot imagine finding a better family practice anywhere in the nation. Ive been coming to Ghent family medicine for nearly forty years. My care is NEVER DELAYED, my appointments are always easy to obtain and accurate. The registration process is simple and there is never a wait. The staff are knowledgeable and prepared. Ive never had a question they could not answer. I especially love that the doctors are equally attentive, listen carefully and assure that my needs are met. They explain my care clearly. I'm happy to "save a trip" when labs can be done, immunizations given, and proceedures can actually be done same visit, in the office. Excellent care I have been a patient with Ghent family practice for years. Care has had its ups and downs until recently. This year my care team changed and my experience has been amazing and much improved. FINALLY doctors that listen and provide solutions. Doctors show empathy and care to issues. Processes seem smoother from making appointments to getting needed referrals. Messaging the care team is easy and I get prompt responses. Appointments schedulers think ahead and ask appropriate questions that get things done in a timely manner. And wow! A newly renovated facility that patients can be proud of. I have always been provided with good care at this facility. From the moment I walk through the door Ms Peggy or Ulysses have a welcoming smile and short inspirational conversations. My doctors over the years have listened to my concerns and addressed them with concern. About 12 years ago I tried another facility but after a few years came back to Ghent Family Practice Where I met with Dr Javed who encouraged me to take better care of my medical conditions. I have used him for over a decade and thought, when I moved from the DC area to Norfolk/VB, I would have to find someone else, but fortunately he decided to move to Norfolk and serve in a teaching situation instead of just a private practice. I have been here to help a friend with chronic pain and their doctors have been extremely sensitive to his issues and have been extremely empathetic and nonjudgmental. They do have a LOT of patients so trying to book an appointment quickly can be a challenge. Generally they do 6 month followups and don't do anything sooner. When it comes to highly regulated drugs, they will not change your prescription between office visits. You are also required to do a consult with a psychologist and are subjected to random drug tests. Their downfall, though, is that they are so busy and they may not be able to respond to requests, questions and concerns as quickly (if at all) as you would like. However, once you're in the clinic and talking to the doctor, they are extremely nice and friendly.

They handle infectious diseases dedicated to the prevention and treatment of infectious disease specializing in treatments of HIV and AIDS. They also have sentara EVMS comprehensive sickle cell program which delivers multidisciplinary care our friend Taylor treatment plans that address the diverse and interconnected challenges face by sickle cell patients. I have only brought a couple people over here for different services and I had services done for cancer treatment. I was truly satisfied with my service. The building is beautiful the parking is terrible, sometimes you have to pay sometimes you don't sometimes you can get close parking sometimes you can't. This is a busy facility plus you have a children's hospital here you have a heart hospital and I think a sex change hospital here. PETA is JUST ABOUT across the street. It's near Ghent. Lots of great restaurants nearby.

It took over a week for them to send a referral (after I'd called FOUR times). Now the dr they've referred me to needs two weeks to "review" my file before they can even schedule me. I'll be out of meds by then, but that seems to be of no concern to anyone but me. The doctors care about their patients. No one else there does. I'm currently looking for a new doctor, not because I dislike the doctor I have, but because of how poorly every other aspect of the practice is handled. I would NEVER recommend EVMS to anyone. Ever.

I had similar experiences with Dr. N -- felt like I was pushed on her and just didn't seem to be the complete package as Dr. T. But, went back and there's a NEW doc, and he's great. So now it's just Dr. S and NP Catherine; plus the staff is warmer so I'd say give them a try!
